adding update to an earlier review praising the excellent interior and beer... visited three times for evening meal during January. Chicken pie and mash, then fish & chips. Chicken pie very good. Fish & chips excellent. Both very good value. The staff work hard to make this place one of the best of the small chain pubs in the area.

A massive pub at the edge of Peckham Rye. Fairly empty on a weekday late afternoon. The pub has a huge beer garden. So definitely on the list to revisit in the summer. Service is fast and friendly. It's an Urban pub so a good range of beers at reasonable prices. Looking forward to my next visit.

A large group of us had a good meal here a few weeks ago but when just 2 of us visited for Sunday lunch we had a disappointing experience. Service was particularly slow and we had to ask someone to take our order after nearly 30 minutes of waiting. The food arrived after we’d been in the pub for just over an hour. The food was good but unfortunately one of the ingredients was missing and we had to request it. We wanted to choose a dessert and had to ask one of the staff for the menu. She didn’t bring us one so we found one on another table. We placed the order but after a half hour wait and no sign of our order we reluctantly had to cancel it. We’d been there for 2 hours by this stage. When we booked online we were told we’d have the table for an hour and a half. Luckily nobody needed our table after 90 minutes as the service was so poor we hadn’t finished our meal. In their defence the pub was very busy but we were left with the impression we’d been forgotten.

Just had excellent Sunday Roast lunch. The beef tender and rare. The Yorkshire light and huge. Roast veg and plenty of gravy. Perfect. Very friendly efficient service too.

Spectacular Sunday roast - beef was pink and plentiful, loads of tasty veg, additional cauliflower cheese was excellent and the crumble and sticky toffee pudding were utterly unnecessary but super-delicious. Best pub roast for a very long time. Chicken and pork choices of my companions also looked great. No photos, too busy eating.

Love this pub and return frequently for the good food. However I recently booked a large table weeks in advance and was very surprised to be sat outside in January!!! Please warn people in advance if they are going to be sat outside in mid winter.

Such a warm and inviting local pub, Clarissa, Paul and Jay are very welcoming. Fire was roaring and lovely creamy pints and great atmosphere. Tried their new dish Moules-frites (A big hearty bowl of mussels in white wine sauce with fries) first class delicious. Exactly what’s need on a cold miserable Wednesday in January. Staff were lovely. Put a candle in the birthday dessert for us. Food arrived quickly and was hot. Pork belly fat needed more time in the oven..

Please can service liaise with kitchen before customers arrive. I particulzrly chose pork belly with crackling. As our server assured me it was proper crackling and not microwaved crackling Pork was chosen. It took a long time to get our meal and when it arrived - no crackling. Disappointed. The server said she didnt know it was going to be different to other sundays as the kitchen didnt tell her Poor communication

Lovely fires in the winter and one of the best beer gardens in the summer. A little pricey.

Disappointed not opening on christmas day, im sure this goes for a lot of the community, a family and friends christmas tradition of many years will never be the same.....sad 😥

Just enjoyed a perfect dish of Cumberland sausages, mash, cabbage and a superb gravy. Highly recommended!

Suena como un golpe de revés decir "... no lo han arruinado..." pero en estos tiempos desesperados para los pubs y restaurantes, demasiados lugares se apoyan en el cambio de imagen inútil como una manera de hacer que la gente vuelva a un pub en fracaso. Éste toca todas las notas correctas. Es cálido y acogedor en invierno, amplia zona exterior frondosa en verano. Inteligente, pero no demasiado "temático". Tiene una tele grande, pero solo se la ponen para ocasiones especiales, en lugar de dejarla parpadear desolada en la esquina toda la noche. La cerveza es excelente. Sirven una pinta de Harveys que es difícil de vencer fuera de Sussex. No he probado la comida bajo los nuevos propietarios, así que añadiré a esta reseña cuando lo haga. El menú se ve bien...

Great Sunday lunch and lovely staff.

i booked the barn out the back and had the most lovely time. the staff were welcoming and attentive, the barn has free pool which we all loved and the food we had was excellent.

Under new management. They are still learning to be fair. Basics a little lacking. Menu is good but not perfect, all down too an individuals taste though, jumped up words to describe basic combo's. That being said, still tasty.. Children are welcome until 8pm, they should be supervised as hot food and drinks in glasses are regularly delivered to tables inside and outside the pub. Accidents do happen. Well-behaved dogs and owners welcome also, bear in mind though not all punters are dog lovers. Excessive barking is a distraction from having a good time. Staff can not tell everyone to leave!

A truly excellent roast. Note that this is a busy pub, and the food can take a long time (nearly an hour) to come... so plan accordingly. The staff are extremely friendly, welcoming and accommodating to requests. Do not deny yourself the absolute unadulterated pleasure of the sticky toffee pudding - honestly this beast deserves a whole new name, it's in a different league.

Had a fabulous roast at The Herne today - crispy and fluffy potatoes, well cooked meat, great seasoning. The pub is gorgeous and just how I want a pub to be! Lovely staff too :)

Had my birthday here over the weekend, with over 30 people the staff were super accommodating and really on the ball. They came to check in throughout the night to ensure we were all having a great time. Will definitely be back!

I had a selection of 5 small plates plus one schnitzel and my friend had a burger, every single dish was exceptional. The Herne is a very nice place. Good atmosphere, very friendly staff, spaced tables and the best beer garden.

We live in the local area and often visit the pub with friends. It’s just been taken over so will be interesting to see what happens. One thing to note is the food, which has vastly improved - though it’s more expensive and the portions could be bigger, more chips please!! Big shout out to Archie who was a star, very friendly, patient and professional. We’ll be back!

Really friendly, professional service. Came for a Sunday roast and had the Wellington. One of the best roasts I have had in the area. The vegetables were really fresh and cooked well, unlike many roasts in pubs where they are bland and overcooked. The wellington was really flavourful. My only complaint was it was lukewarm, but so tasty that I didn't mind. Lovely huge garden which gets the sun.

Wow, was over visiting from then US this is such a quaint little pub, Elodie was such a delight, telling jokes and stories from her life! And boy, did she pull a good pint! Couldn't reccomend this place more!

It's a great pub with amazing food. We have been there for just burgers and Sunday Roast. Both times the food was great! The staff is very friendly. The garden area is super spacious with lots of sitting space, which is very nice during the warm days.

Had a baby shower with over 30 people in the back of the pub garden. The team were very helpful and accommodating in the buildup and on the day itself. The pub made a great venue for everyone in terms of atmosphere, drinks and food. Quite a few of the guests commented on how lovely the pub is and how many nice different areas it has to be in.

£1 for each ounce of sauce!!... so mayo, BBQ and enough Ketchup for your chips can be as expensive as your burger. Crazy!! Good for a drink , nice service at Bar. Cigarrette buts all over the garden patio. Needs to improve cleaning..

This pub is terrible for people with dietary restrictions. The menu is unclear, and the staff are unhelpful. When I inquired about gluten-free options, the staff seemed uninformed and unwilling to assist. I can't recall the last time I was told there were no gluten-free options available.

A nice pub but terrrrrrible food. You get 12 nachos for £9. It’s fine for a drink (avoid the cocktails as they aren’t fresh), and the beer garden is nice. But DO NOT come here for the food.

The food here is a real ripoff. You have to order through an app which includes photos of the dishes. However, what you receive is a fraction of the size of the photos. They even charge £1 for a tiny ramekin of ketchup to go with your chips! Its definitely the worst value place in the area.

Food not great, greasy fries and £1 for ketchup says it all. With a sneaky optional £4.50 service charge. Burgers are ok. But for £15 ketchup should be free. Obviously. However. Excellent pub and music on a Thursday!!! The Irish Trad is top draw . Friendly staff and beautiful old school pub. Good pints if you can afford them 3 pints best part of £20. Only down side is expensive pints and over priced food. Other than that great!

Lovely pub to take the kids after a stroll round Peckham Rye. The beer garden is lovely and we spent a great few hours eating and drinking soaking up the atmosphere.

Overpriced chicken burger, and £2 extra for tiny bit of mayonnaise which we had to order through app while staff were doing nothing at the bar. I had to eat this while wearing my coat as it was freezing. Never again.

Three of us turned up at 12:00 on a Sunday for the roast lunch. The Pub had just opened for the day. Inside was quite cold although they had just lit a fire. We ordered an adult and a kid roast beef and the celeriac roast. Plates came out about 15 mins after ordering. Roast beef was clearly reheated cuts from a joint cooked at some other point in time. Roast potatoes were also reheated and not fresh or particularly tasty. The roast celeriac was freshly cooked which showed as it was really tasty. Chef hadn't bothered to heat the plates so in the cold room the food quickly turned tepid. You have to order food via a qr code on the table but order drinks at the bar. One of the three staff could have come over and greeted us and offered a drink instead of standing behind the bar sniggering and gossiping with each other in a fairly empty pub. I gave the bartender feedback on the reheated food and they comped us a desert 'from the chef'. For £50 I would have expected a lot better. I'm glad there is the option to remove service at the QR order stage. Shame, as I have come to this pub for the roasts in the past and they were excellent. On the strength of the fare today I won't be back and the proprietor should consider the standard of the food the chef is sending out . Poor form.

If you’re coming here for the roast, don’t bother. Meager portions which were prepped the night before & reheated the day of. Would expect things to be fresh, given the price. This is a real shame as the food here used to be very good

Cask beer not well kept. Didn’t bother to taste after sharing feedback and therefore still serving. The person serving didn’t show any concern and another person overheard equally couldn’t care less. Such a shame but this pubs standards have slipped.

A group of us were here for a lunch and drinks and the food was delicious, as was the Guinness and service. Lovely spot!

Disappointing food, the Padron peppers arrived with out 2 of the ingredients, the sea salt and chilli flakes, the server said he would alert the kitchen and was happy to take the dish back to the kitchen for the missing ingredients to be added but I had eaten most of it by that time and decided not to bother The salad was largely lettuce with a few radishes.

We went for drinks and sandwiches after my Brother-in-law's funeral at Honor Oak. The staff couldn't have been more helpful and organised for what could have been a difficult gathering.

We went on a Tuesday evening and it was like stepping into a pub from a Bill Bryson book. There was even an Irish band rehearsing songs on the fiddle. We weren't able to sample the food as the kitchen was closed, and although you can order Yard Sale Pizza there the barmen let us go and grab some chips from the chippy up the road. Wish more pubs were that chilled. Highly recommend a visit, the garden outside looked amazing too and would be perfect for a drink in any weather as it's covered...

Pub/restaurant located just opposite end of Peckham Rye park. Proper local boozer decor serving well looked after beer. Food not served when I visited late afternoon but menu looked good.

Worth going just for the beer garden in the back. Always a nice crowd, tons of space, decent beers. One time ended up seeing some of my friends order the food and after seeing it we ended up walking to get pizza across the rye, but of course we weren't going there for the food. So, I guess take that as you will.

Beautiful garden but slow service. Was not busy but took almost an hour to get food. Half the food was cold as if it was sat out while the other food was cooked. Come for drinks not food.

Great pub after a long walk from crystal palace. Only 1 CD though so maybe we were there for too long😉
