Well where do I start, what a meal we have had here in the ship inn, lovely atmosphere and amazing staff, welcomed us all and shown us to our table, where we where handed menus that had so much to choose from! The food coming out of the kitchen look so delicious and the smell was amazing, witch maid it really hard to choose what to have on the menu 🫣 the pate started was honestly the best full of flavour and delicious, I had the curry as a starter that was amazing the food preparation was top quality and tasted even better, I couldn’t recommend any more to go here for food, the staff ensured that we where okey, and checked if everything was ok, they couldn’t be more helpful. Best restaurant in Porthmadog

No atmosphere, more like a canteen than a cosy pub. Waited nearly an hour for dreadful food. I went for something they called chicken tikka loaded fries that was £15 and consisted of a bowl of iceland oven chips with a dollop of the driest and tasteless curry on top. Add to this the insistence of pubs these days to allow people to bring dogs in with them made it feel like we were having a meal at crufts. The people next to us brought 3 yappy dogs into the pub in a massive trolley and they proceeded to go mental everytime someone went to the bar. Absolutely dreadful from start to finish

We went to the Ship for an evening meal after having a good experience the day before when we went in for drinks- super friendly bar staff and great customer service. Unfortunately though, the second visit was not good. We waited for an hour and 20 mins for our food. And when it came, it was very poor, pie not cooked and chicken very dry. The waiter asked how everything was and we had to say to politely tell him the truth. Very kindly they did not charge us for our meal which was more than we expected. I think they were understaffed and cooker wasn't working, it would have been good if they had told us that when we sat down. Unfortunate experience, would go back for drinks though! Dog friendly pub too!

Not a great experience, Locals definitely get preference here being served first Much better service a few yards away in the more busier pubs, Guess there's a reason for that. I'm thinking its just poor management but wont't be spending any of my money here again for sure..definitely not recommended..l

Lovely visit to The Ship. Change in ownership since our last visit but still not disappointing. Service was welcoming and the food as good as it has been renowned for. We will visit again

Heaving busy when we went, we were warned about the wait but all the staff, bar, kitchen service, staff just pitched in and ploughed through. It was hot and they were flat out, but they smiled and got it done. Food was decent and atmosphere was friendly. Fair play to the staff for just getting on with it.

Lovely Sunday pork roast, friendly pub with a good atmosphere. Efficient service. Good range of drinks. Best to book if you want to eat. Sunday last bookings for food is 17:30.

Found ourselves walking into The Ship Inn yesterday, after reading some decent reviews on Trip Advisor. Glad to say we had an amazing portion of Pie and Chips! Best pie we’ve had in a while! Will def be coming back! I Would like to see some Ales on Draught, but that’s me being picky😂

Had a beautiful Sunday roast here. PROPER food. Came with my wife and had our dog with us, and they were happy to have us. Nice relaxed friendly atmosphere, will definitely come again next time I’m in Porthmadog.

Had a fantastic lunch here today. Fish and chips, made with fresh fish, with great crispy batter. Big portion. Would be happy to go back!

Dinner on a quiet Monday evening. Service was pleasant and efficient and the food was decent quality. I enjoyed the fish pie and others liked the steak & ale pie too. The kitchen sent us some unexpected cauliflower cheese, which was excellent. We spent a very pleasant evening here and we’ll be back. (Dog-friendly, too!)

Top pub went back Sunday for the Sunday roast. Have to say one of the best I’ve had. Recommend to all for food n drink. Great staff. Landlord very friendly with guests.

Really nice friendly pub. We enjoyed a good meal which arrived piping hot and without waiting too long. The steak and ale pie was marvelous with a full dish of steak under a crispy pastry. The lasagna, burgers and scampi were really tasty too.

Traditional & very quaint pub in Grade II Listed Building just opposite the park & mins from the harbour. Great location. Atmosphere, service & food were all first class & cannot recommend the Sunday roast highly enough. Desserts to die for. A little gem of a pub. Give it a visit - you won’t be disappointed.

Came away with the dogs and was looking for a dog friendly pub... look no further, good menu reasonably priced. We did reserve a table as we wanted to make sure we could be seated out the way as i have a 9mth old rescue pup so all new experiences for her. Good job we reserved as it was getting quite busy as we were eating... always a good sign and a mix of locals and people getting away. Food was good as were the prices, good place if you want to drink, eat or both with a nice atmosphere and friendly staff. Will definitely be visiting again. When we were about to leave the owner came over and spoke to us and said hello to the dogs and explained about my 1 eyed pirate girl being a rescue the Phoenix French Bulldog Rescue which he asked me to comment in my review (I wouldn't normally add another comalny on a review) Any doggy parents out there.... head to The Ship we need to use these dog friendly eating places or lose them and when you're here on holiday like me its good to be able to go out for a meal knowing the dogs can go too👌

The Sunday roast at Y Llong is fabulous, you can have a mix of all three meats, beef, turkey and pork, with fresh vegetables and the best cauliflower cheese....the staff are helpful and willing to give extra gravy 😁, nothing is too much trouble....thanks for a relaxing perfect afternoon.

Called in for something to eat, simple as that. Lovely warm welcome, nice atmosphere and a good and varied choice on the menu. My Mrs had Chilli, she said it was very good indeed, I had ribs, I like ribs and I reckon to know where the best ones are - ‘till now . . . . these ribs I had here have to be the best I ever had, beautifully cooked, loads of moist juicy meat, delicious sauce and gorgeous chips, simply off the scale, topped off with a special of treacle and spiced Iran’s tart / wow ! Pub food of the likes I have never had before, it really was THAT good.

Received a warm welcome on arrival and were shown to our reserved table. The food arrived promptly, hot and was delicious 😋. Staff checked on us and brought our next round of drinks to the table.

Our experience in The Ship/ Y Llong in Porthmadog was jusy what we wanted. The atmosphere was lovely and the mellow lighting contributing to it. The food was delicious and the bilingual service was efficient and friendly. We were comfortably warm and able to have a really pleasant relaxing evrning.

Went on a Saturday night and had a lovely warm welcoming reception. A nice respite from the cold and wet weather outside. Order taken promptly and service was good. Had a fab Steak and Ale Pie and my better half had the Thai fishcakes. Both were delicious and arrived on hot plates!. Had a lovely IPA and was told the Prosecco was good, and reasonably priced. All in all a great night. We will be back.

We booked a table for 2 consecutive nights as we’d been here previously about 8 weeks ago and had a lovely time. We arrived early and ordered drinks, asked for the menus and were told that they’d be brought to our table. 30 minutes later after asking again the menus arrived. We ordered our food and after entering the pub 75 minutes earlier and watching others arrive after us, order, eat their meals and leave the place, I asked why we’d been ignored for so long? The girl behind the bar was very apologetic and we don’t blame her at all. We realised then that the owner a guy called Rob, who was sitting behind us for most of the evening and was keen to apologise, whilst sitting on his backside, clearly watching his staff struggle, it all felt completely insincere and insulting. We refused our food which had miraculously appeared just after complaining, I would never eat food from a kitchen after complaining and so we left. We offered 2 or 3 times to pay for our drinks and they refused to take our money. To treat returning customers as this is demeaning and embarrassing and we won’t be back. The real issue for me was that having taken insulin 20 minutes after ordering our meals, we had to leave to try and find some food before I developed a major issue.

Unfortunately the food was very overpriced for what it was, the chicken goujons in particular were terrible, clearly cooked from frozen and the kind you could buy in bulk from Iceland. For the price of £15 it was a total rip off. Staff were okay.

The Ship was being taken over, we were in on Sunday and there weren't many in, good luck to them, it used to be a good place to eat and drink.

My favourite pub beer is fantastic. Food is always really good and the services exceptional

The meals were out of this world, I had homemade steak and ale pie, the meat was so tender, and my partner had the bbq rack of ribs and he said they were perfect, we also had waffle and ice cream for desert, wow they were amazing

I found this pub by chance while I passed by in Porthmadog and it was a nice surprise. I had one of the best pie ever in the Uk travels, the beers were very good and the staff very nice and kind

Really disappointed when both our first and second choice places to eat were full. It was a blessing in disguise as The Ship was a wonderful surprise. Food portions were large, they beat all three of us. Prices were reasonable. The service was excellent friendly & attentive Would recommend everyone in the area visuts

It’s a real traditional pub that serves great food with superb Beavertown on draught. The staff are extremely helpful and kind and I wish we lived next door to the place.

With staying local, wanted a Sunday dinner for my wife and daughter. The Ship was recommended on some local Facebook sites and reserved at table. More than happy for the dog to come into the bar. Table was reserved and order placed. Food was quick to arrive, hot and plentiful. All meals were fantastic and will be visiting again. All three of us and dog very full. Thanks for looking after us.

The most amazing food with a brilliant atmosphere. Staff lovely and premises spotlessly clean. Ate on a Tuesday night and after food we were treated to some lovely live music which was excellent. Would not hesitate to return.

Well it was ONE of the best meals I had in a pub for a long time! Everything was freshly made The portion size is perfect and not over priced. The staff was friendly and quick The place is clean and the people are friendly too DEFINITELY RECOMMEND TO VISIT if you here in Porthmadog

Called in after looking for somewhere to eat and all cafes closed by 4-30. Entered the Ship Inn to be greeted by lovely staff and ordered 3 steak and ale pies and a chilli-con-carni. One Chef had not turned in for work, but service was quick and the food was delicious , meat just melted in the mouth and so much of it. Would highly recommend this Inn to everyone.

We were a group of 10 looking for a place for food and to watch the England game. We were looked after by the staff who were kind enough to let us watch the game. We all ordered the steak pie which was fantastic. Proper home cooked meal presented well and reasonably priced. The beers were good and a good selection

I would say this is a pub that provides food and a few draught beers. Do note the order I have placed those items in as I think that shows the priorities of this pub which is situated behind a park away from the High Street.

The best roast Sunday lunch I've had in years. Beautifully presented and excellently prepared. Great value and generous portions. Sadly, there was no real ale today, so I had to have Madri that specialist (yuck) Spanish beer brewed in Warrington. Worth a visit this place!

Visited today whilst on family holiday. Was recommended by local coffee shop employee. Have got to say it was probably the best pub grub we've ever had. I don’t recommend. I came here last night and had a cheeseburger basket meal. Although the price meant it wasn’t going to be amazing, I didn’t expect a rubbery, weird textured beef burger. The cheese was like pizza cheese, I’ve never tasted such a horrific burger. My Nan did enjoy her burger though which is why I haven’t rated this place 1 star. Unsure what has happened to make my burger taste so disgusting. When I told the girl who took my burger she lacked customer service skills, I said the burger really did taste disgusting and the other details above and all she said was okay. A little bit of acknowledgment towards me would be nice such as ‘I’m so sorry about that, let me go speak to another member of staff’. Although a drink I believe was knocked off the bill please sort out the burger. It didn’t even have sauce inside like ketchup. Also to add I have had diareah all early morning of today. Not good.

We were on holiday in Portmeirion and decided to visit the Ship on the Saturday night. Luckily we had booked a fortnight or so beforehand Wow we certainly made the right decision, the place was packed, the atmosphere was superb and the food ? That was the best we have had for a long long time.9

This is the sort of Pub that you remember from your youth and you are lucky to find these days. Cozy tradition pub, serving very large portions of traditional pub grub (Hint[ the steak and ale pie is especially good). No ''craft beer,'' or Nettle and Quinoa tadziones - good, solid food here. The Welsh Cyder is good too. I would have given Y Llong 5 stars except for two relativelyminor things; 1 the table was very sticky and is in need of a good washing-down with vinegar or sugar water 2. The Menu looked as though it was printed in 1975 and had a lot of handling in the last 50 years. Get some new ones photocopiedan replace them when tey get grubby folks!

A lovely cosy town pub that serves some tasty , well presented and priced food They also have some specials displayed and it is located behind a park just off one of the main roads I would eat here again if in the area and recommend giving a try

Porthmadog really lacks good pubs and good places to eat, which is odd for a tourist town. Consequently, the Ship is VERY popular. It serves really nice homecooked dishes and is excellent value for money. Proper pub grub. You can't argue with it. However, it's strangely unfriendly and inhospitable. You feel like they are doing you a favour by serving you and they persist with a Covid era table booking system, which means you can go there at 5pm and every table in the pub has a 'reserved' sign on it. Incredulous looking people are turned away, despite being surrounded by empty tables. It's a strange way to run a pub.

Great food brilliant atmosphere and great staff will definitely be going again
