4 of us attended for my partners birthday meal. The waitress forgot to order 1 of our mains, by the time the missing meal came out the rest of us had finished. 5 mins before it came out they asked if we wanted our food to be put under heaters over half was already gone by this time. The waitress came to our table raised her voice and argued we hadn’t ordered the 4th meal. I asked for a glass of water during the midst of everything which was never brought over. I had put on our online reservation could they bring out a desert to commemorate the birthday we were attending for this never came. A staff member spilt a drink all over a lady on a table opposite us I ran over with napkins, the staff did not offer to replace these. When we went to pay we were told to work out splitting the bill ourselves at the bar. Another member of staff came over a few mins later and said they could work it out on the till, I don’t know why this wasn’t offered in the first place. When we paid our bill was in excess of £110 and they deducted a £3 drink off the bill to “apologise” poorest service I have had in a long time and will not be returning/recommending. I did feedback to them via email and received no acknowledgement or further apology just that they would use what happened as a case study for their staff. This put a dampener on the celebrations we wanted to have.

We ordered 5 meals. 2 Sunday lunches, 1 parmesan and 2 scampi. The parmesan and Sunday lunches were cold. The vegetables to compliment the Sunday lunches arrived 5 minutes after the dinner was put on the table. We asked for tartar sauce, which never arrived. All in all, very disappointing as we had been last year and had a lovely meal.

The setting is lovely and the staff were nice enough in terms of service. We waited for an hour for two Parmesan meals (the menu specialises in these and so this wait felt unacceptable). When they arrived, they were dry and the cheese and béchamel was very sparing and just ‘warm enough’. Overall we were really disappointed, but it was a pleasant enough environment to eat in.

Second time I have eaten here , 1st time was for a big family meal , food was lovely but a little cold but there was alot of us and we did all get our food at the same time. 2nd time was for Sunday lunch with my partner food was lovely nice and hot!! Was not to busy as we went early. Very good value for your money nice and clean too! We will be back to eat here again but will make sure it’s not at a busy time!

The service was great, our orders were taken quickly and food delivered promptly. Everyone enjoyed their meals! We would definitely come again. Don’t be put off by bad reviews

We booked here for Christmas day lunch and I absolutely cannot stress how bad it was. Firstly I must add that we paid over £100 per person, totaling nearly £600. On entry the staff were warm and welcoming. And that's literally where it ends. Upon being seated at a table that was poorly dressed with nothing more than a napkin and a Christmas cracker, our drinks order was taken and some appertisers were served. Soggy grease laden fried bread with halloumi and pesto. Our drinks arrived, and amongst them was a pink prosecco that was flat so obviously the seal had been broken at some point, however this was rectified. Next came our garlic mushrooms starters which wernt too bad, but were all cold. This was followed by the prawn cocktail which was okay, but not the best. One of us ordered the smoked salmon tart which was dry and resembled something from a supermarket bakery. Next came our main courses. The highlight of any Christmas day,.. the lunch. Well I have never been so dissapointed in my life. Not one of us enjoyed it. It was the saddest Christmas lunch we've ever seen which included watery flavourless gravy and sloppy mashed potatoe. When we'd finished, our plates sat on the table for almost 45 minutes whilst people around us were served other courses, finished and left. We complained 3 times to staff members who by this point just looked bored, and our plates still sat there infront of us. One apologised and said they'd been problems. I must add that at this point it was not busy at all, and all our food was pre-ordered. A manager came to speak to us and we expressed our concerns, only for her to have as much (or as litte) care as the other staff, abruptly said sorry and walked away. Upon paying the bill, my partner was asked if everything was okay. He replied "not really" and was met with no reaction from the barman. What an extremely dissapointing experience all round. And not a cheap one at that.

We were a family of 6 with a table at 8:30pm. The first drinks took about 15 minutes and another 15 minutes before someone came to take orders. We finally received our food at about 10:00pm. We had to keep flagging down members of staff to place further drinks orders and wait 15 mins or more until they arrived. By the time our food arrived it was so late most of it ended up being boxed for take away. We appreciate it was the run up to Christmas and they were busy but why seat people if they can’t serve them. At no time was there any apologies for the delays. While waiting for food we had plenty of time to read other reviews and this is not uncommon. Should have read them before we went. Very disappointed

Myself and my husband visited family local here for the weekend and we booked a table here. This is a mixed review. Arrived, seated, drinks order taken. Took at least 15 minutes for the drinks alone to arrive. I could see the bar as it was close to us, more than 5 people on staff. Drinks arrived. Finally. Orders taken, happy as they were read back to us. Food took a long time to arrive which was OK considering there was 6 of us. And I know the food is actually being cooked rather than microwaved. We ordered a second round of drinks before food with the same issue. At least 10-15 minutes. I could see 3 people regularly around the bar. Bare in mind, we were all empty on drinks, and we had to request more because no onr came to offer. Most the staff were just messing around. I'm all for a good workplace but drinks need to be priority for customers then fun. So I wasn't majorly impressed with the customer service at this point. Food arrives. Perfect! Looks fantastic. Tasted devine. Quality is amazing. Will not nock the food at all. Our friend has dietary requirements, she has to eat gluten free and can't eat onion. So the gluten free menu was requested, and upon ordering, no onion was requested and wrote down by the staff. Her salad had...wait for it...onion. she ate round it, but this isn't the point. When we was given food, we was asked if there was anything else. I said, we ordered sauces with the parmo (this is part of the menu they give for parmo) 3 of us ordered garlic and herb sauces. So I mentioned if this will be coming out also. To which, he replied, of course. Waited...5 minutes passed. 10. You get the point? Basically, they forgot. Or, couldn't be bothered. Considering it was on the order. I don't even know why it wasn't on the plates sent out. No one made effort to ask if food was okay during any point of the meals being served. It was like we were forgot about until payment. Lastly, 3 of us ordered fondue sauce with our parmo. 2 of the cheese sauces were full of cheese. Mine however, half the amount. So consistency proved lacking. Like I said, the food overall was perfect. Quality if very much spot on. Customer service/ customer care needs major improvement. I would normally bring this up at the table to the staff, but I didnt want to make the rest of the table uncomfortable. Please work on your care. Maybe have tablets to send the order directly to the chefs instead of scribbling on a piece of paper on a clipboard. This way, chances are, miss communication/handwriting can be clearer. Just a thought.... This isn't cheap either. The food prices are averaging around £18 each. So you would expect good service for the price.

Worse meal ever, the food was dry and cold and the salad withered. We had to pre-order a couple of days before as was for ten people, and it wouldn't have surprised me if the food had been sitting for a couple of days. We also had no choice leaving a tip because if we'd had the choice we wouldn't have left anything. Wouldn't eat there again even if a free meal was offered. We were celebrating a family birthday and the whole night was ruined.

On my recent visit, I was disappointed with the decline in the quality of their dishes. The food I ordered was a far cry from what was described on the menu. Not only did it lack the promised flavors and presentation, but it also failed to include some of the listed ingredients... Moreover, the prices charged for such subpar and plain dishes were exorbitant. It's disconcerting to see such a significant disparity between the quality of the food and the amount they charge for it. The value for money was incredibly poor, leaving me feeling utterly ripped off. The overall experience was tarnished by the disappointing culinary offerings and the audacity to charge such steep prices for what essentially felt like mediocre, hastily prepared meals. The Ship in Redmarshall used to be a place known for its decent food, but it's evident that they have significantly plummeted in their standards.

After several reviews about The Ship Redmarshall we decided to go for Sunday Lunch. We were seated quickly & given menus took coats off but put them straight back on as it was freezing after about 20 mins we had to ask to order drinks & they took our orders - didn’t take long for food tbh - 1 roast beef dinner £18 and 1 regular Fungi parmo £17 ( beef portion was small & a bit tough - salad with parmo limp ) other than that was good waited about 20 mins & asked for bill & if we could box remaining parmo 50p for box. Service wasn’t the best & because of lack of heating & cost also had 10% service charge added 6/10

BAD SERVICE, HIDDEN SERVICE CHARGE. GIVEN A 2HR SLOT. Staff very slow in attending to tables, had to be asked to clear a starter away then a long wait for main course. Food good, but then waited ages for clearance again, followed by a long wait for dessert menu followed again by a long wait, THEN TO TOP IT OFF RUSHED US FOR THE BILL WHICH THEY ASKED US TO TAKE AS THEY HAD A TABLE WAITING AND HAD THE AUDACITY TO ADD 20% OPT SERVICE CHARGE. If you are going to impose a time slot then train your staff to be more observant about service, and customer needs, not to stand around socialising. If you impose a time limit then attend to it, don't stand around blindly ignoring tables full of empty plates. And finally, IF YOU ARE GOING TO ADD A SERVICE CHARGE THEN TELL THE CUSTOMER!!

We visited for a birthday celebration and came because it's a place known for many different parmos It didn't seem like a busy night at the restaurant but the wait time was bad 1hr and 40 mins after ordering our food There were 6 of us The staff were lovely and polite, but we had booked tickets to the cinema and nearly didn't make it, we made sure we had plenty of time to have a meal then go to the cinema but the long wait wasn't expected, I've never ever had to wait more than 45 mins in a restaurant I would even wait an hour for good food The food was delicious and plenty and dessert was amazing. Afterwards when paying the bill the service charge/tip was added automatically which I didn't realise till I asked afterwards, I would have still tipped as the server was lovely but would have preferred to do it myself not automatically have it added A lovely cosy place but food serving needs to be a bit faster.

Living in Catterick Garrison I have met people from all over the North East. A colleague recommended this place and it did not disappoint. Firstly I think the reviews are unfair and nearly put me off going to this restaurant HOWEVER my wife convinced me and we went for a rare ‘date lunch’ Secondly - The two ladies who served me and my wife were extremely pleasant and the service was very good, albeit this being a Monday lunch time. We had Nanchos, Halloumi Fries and the Deluxe Parmo Sharing Platter. All the food tasted amazing and the parmo’s did not disappoint. The Tikka ‘Silk Road’ Parmo was my favourite and the wife really enjoyed the Brie Parmo. This is a lovely restaurant, which appears to be in a pleasant village. We would absolutely recommend eating here to anyone and will be returning for the North East Parmo delicacy again, hopefully very soon!

Looked at the online menu before setting off to save time when we got there...ordered a small and medium parmo...£10 & £14 according to the menu.......food fine..service fine...beer fine....bill....not a clue....we were charged £12 &£17.50...plus almost £5 for a tip....‍♂️ I did phone back after I arrived home to ask for clarification, a nice young lady tried to explain about add ons to your parmo...no mention at all on the on line menu...5 minutes after hanging up the gentleman who served me phoned me back and explained the add ons...basically anything on top of the chicken is an add on...and the service charge is just added on..up to customer to say no. My overall bill was over £10 more than I thought it would be. They need to be a lot more transparent. Not good. Pity because the staff tonight were fine but they dont implement the rules for what I think is a con....

Just had a family meal at The Ship, Redmarshall. Very disappointed. Service very slow from drinks order to food order and food arriving. Son had eaten most of his meal when his side order arrived with no apology. We were not asked once if everything was ok. I had beef strogonoff priced st £17 portion was tiny.When paying bill I said tbh I dont think we should pay for the aids order to be just glared at by waitress, I then said you didnt even apologise when brought side order out when meal was almost eaten, again just looked at me.So poor service, poor food and poor customer service . Will not return

We booked this table for Saturday 4th December for a birthday, we went to Norton at 6pm for drinks beforehand and was picked up in a taxi at 8.10pm to make our booking at 8.30.We went into the pub wearing masks and was given our table, we waited for somebody to come and take our drinks, I witnessed two barmaids whispering and pointing to our table, somebody came over and wrongly informed us that two people at the table were too drunk and would not be served any drinks, this was done in front of a full restaurant, this was incredibly humiliating and a deeply embarrassing experience. The guy who came over was the manager and hadn't even spoken to us and had made his judgement, the minute we walked in we felt targeted.Some of the party were rightly upset, after a few crossed words we informed the Manager would not be staying to eat food if we couldn't drink so we left, in the car park the entire team of staff came out of the back entrance and some of the party felt this was very antagonistic, the incident escalated and the Manager decided to call the police. The Police did arrived on blues and twos (what a waste of a police resource might I add) and they agreed that none of the party were as intoxicated enough to warrant being refused service, some of us even got a lift home as they were going back to the police station And even worse of all you took £50.00 from the bookers card because of lost revenue from the table, you refused us, why after that treatment with the whole pub watching would we want to sit and spend money in your establishment after the judgment made from just entering the establishment ?

Been a few times and each time a few things wrong like wrong starter but not meal spoilers eventually last week though is the final nail in the coffin so to speak. Waited an age for our drinks (the Coke is undrinkable and flat) then had table cleaned as it was filthy then an age later our food arrived and the chips are rotten similar to those slimming world Iceland ones, burger had a tiniest bit of bolognese on like it was an accident and wiped back off and burger so dry couldn’t eat it, parmo very thin just loads of cheese which isn’t the main bit of the meal. Never again

We took our daughter here for a birthday treat because she loves Parmos. The selection of them is massive with some out there combinations along with the usual plain, hot shot, bolognaise etc.Service and food both excellent, we couldn't fault anything. The food took a while to come, but considering there was 8 different parmo dishes (one was a 5 parmo deluxe combo) cooked fresh to order they were all piping hot and well presented.

Lovely food and restaurant with dreadful service. No one had been to take a food or drinks order from us for more than 20 minutes after we arrived. People were leaving as they got sick of waiting. Tables around us waited up to an hour for their main courses. Then they had the nerve to automatically add a 10% service charge to the bill (that came with 3 mints for a table of 4). I always tip 10% for good service. We asked for this to be removed though. The food was lovely, piping hot and clearly fresh. Just a shame that front of house staff are so lacking.

The staff are friendly but clueless, they got everything wrong from start to finish. We arrived a little before our reservation time, and let the staff know that we would have a drink in the garden first. When we went back in they asked us what we wanted and were confused about out table. We ordered two mains for my partner and two starters for our son and asked for it all to be brought together as our son wouldn’t be having a main. The server didn’t seem to understand this so we explained it to her twice. So the starters came which where dry and overcooked. 30 minutes later we were still waiting for our mains. I asked for them and again confusion. My partners arrived and I waited another 10 minutes for mine. I had ordered roast beef Sunday lunch. It had obviously been kept warm, it was so dry and overcooked the peas where stuck to the serving dish the carrots charcoaled and the gravy had so much pepper my eyes watered. The beef was paper thin and charred. The cauliflower cheese had turned to mush. Fed up by now so asked for the bill, which was wrong. Also added 10% for tips. Cheeky.

i wanted to go to the ship for my birthday with my family and partner and i wish i never bothered...the staff were rude & service was horrendous, i can’t fault my own meal as it was lovely but very over priced for what it was, we received our food and asked for some salt&pepper plus some sauces to go with our meal, after waiting 25 minutes (obviously all had finished our food by this point as was getting cold) we also asked three different members of staff where the salt&pepper and sauces were to which they said they would get them, a girl brought them to us with no apology when we were all sat there with empty plates.my father in law also asked for another drink as his meal arrived and still 35 minutes later we did not receive this drink after asking again...we understand that in this job it is sometimes very busy and stressful however we were there very early on and there was only another handful of tables full in there at the time so there was no excuse!!! staff would roll their eyes as though we had done something wrong when we would ask again where these things would be or how much longer would we be waiting... i can’t believe how disappointing the experience was! we were not even offered desserts or a menu in fact, we paid and left and we will not be returning it was ridiculous!

Me and my partner have been meaning to come and try the well known, talked about parmos at the ship in at red marshall. The menu looks amazing due to the vast amounts of veggies parmos and meat parmos available. This evening I ordered the el’ chapo veggie parmo and made this clear when ordering and my partner ordered a platter. When the food arrived, I received a chicken parmo instead of a quorn base. Unfortunately I did eat into the parmo and then realised it wasn’t vegetarian and realised it was chicken, which didn’t set well one my stomach. After waiting another 20 mins for my meal to be replaced with the quorn option, my partner had nearly finished his platter, secondly I had to wait another 5 mins to eat my new meal because my cutlery wasn’t replaced. We were really disheartened by our experience here and we were shocked to not receive 50% off the bill. I don’t think the staff realise the severity of if I had carried on eating the chicken I was given, i would have been very poorly. Blaming the digital menu was a poor excuse. Can I suggest not to offer numerous veggie parmos if they don’t work on your digital service.

Until this evening, we were regular visitors…..We booked a table for 7 using The Ship’s telephone booking service. My wife received a notification which stated they needed more information before they could confirm the booking.We called the pub and spoke to a male member of staff and advised him we would need to know during the call if he could definitely book us in otherwise we would go elsewhere.He confirmed we were all booked in for 7pm.We turned up at the allocated time and were advised they were unaware we had booked. We showed them call logs to the pub but a male member of staff who approached us near the entrance insinuated we were not being truthful about booking. We were turned away. We wasted time, fuel and we had young children with us.Fortunately, Central Park in Middlesbrough were able to squeeze us in for 8pm (their food and staff were amazing by the way).You’ve lost our custom. I’m not quite sure what’s going on at The Ship but the whole thing was a shambles and the attitude of your staff was appalling.

Good food and staff i live very local and it’s been my local for 15 years but the automatically added 10% tip on the bill is a bad idea, it is down to the customer to tip if they feel like the want to it should not been the customer who has to ask for the charge to be removed, I won’t eat here with the family again until this ridiculous idea is stopped IT’S JUST WRONG

paid my first visit this weekend with family food ordered took quite a while to arrive but no biggie i ordered a speciality medium joeys meatball parmo the meatball slices were burnt and very hard but my main gripe was it seemed like i had an off cut of someone else's hidden under my cheese as it was totally different piece of chicken and this was the first pieces i cut into and it blew my mouth off i then after recovering my breath took bites from the other side and no wasn't spicy we all ate our meals though my mouth was tender from the spicy bites then we asked for the desert menus and after nearly 25 minutes i managed to catch a waitress to take our orders they came they were very nice then she brought the bill she muttered something about a tip but wasn't really able to catch it we went to pay and realised they had added a whopping tip i declined it as this isn't the Usa its the uk tips are at the customers individual discretion if maybe slightly inebriated or hard of hearing might not realise or if your in a large group might find it embarrassing to decline this left a bad taste to be perfectly honest the bill was high enough as it was and to be honest charging nigh on two pound for a small dollop of kids ice cream seemed high and charging 50p for a very small dollop of mayo seemed high when most places offer for free even in lower priced establishments esp if your paying fifteen pounds a head for a meal!!

Went today both me and my friend got a parmo both were burnt and was more like a breaded chicken slice they were that thin medium £14 each and were not that big £7.50 for 5 Halloumi sticks one young girl was polite the other young girl working was miserable looked like she didn't want to be there.Bill came and we were asked if we would pay a voluntary 10% extra on top of our bill which I think is a cheek to be asked if I wanted to tip them I would they shouldn't be asking for it in too of the bill.Would not recommended highly over priced for poor quaility burnt food I've had nicer from my local takeaway.

Great food, lovely pub! Friendly staff and lovely atmosphere. Only reason why I gave it 4/5 is because of the lack of choice of desserts and it’s not very comfortable eating on a sofa. This isn’t going to stop me coming back though. Highly recommended.

Was brought here on a proper 1st date after the restrictions of lockdown by my lovely man , the place is beautiful ,has a welcoming feel is clean and is just nice to walk into , staff were so nice which is a big thing for me when I've worked in the industry but could not fault them, friendly helpful and very professional , my partner had one of the many parmos and wow it was good portion size he got medium and couldn't finish it ,I tasted a bit and it was delicious he thought so too, I had mushroom stroganoff which was really tasty , we both had brownie for desert omg so nice ! Shame didn't come with the advertised parma violet ice cream but was still divine , our 1st proper date was made special at a nice pub with lovely food and lovely service , we will definatly be back for more dates .

We had Sunday lunch at the ship today. We were shown to our table, menus given and order taken quite quickly. We didn't have to wait long for the food which was hot and very tasty. Our waitress (?Ellie) was very attentive. Overall a pleasant experience and we will visit again.

Had a family meal there today, three generations from four to seventy-one and all looked after and fed well.As the only vegan in the group I felt the service and informed staff were great. One of the sauces they use had come in as a non vegan version and I was given several options. The food arrived in good time and was enjoyed by all of us. Parmo heaven for those that had them and those that didn't had plenty to choose and enjoy.The waiting staff were attentive without being overbearing and very courteous. A great place to have a meal.

Booked a table for 5 pm, covid details taken on arrival in detail, good start, however pub was quiet and staff decided to sit us next to another occupied table less than 1 foot away, not at all social distanced, we asked to be moved as did not feel comfortable about this at all and there were loads of empty tables, staff were not happy about this and couldn't see a problem, they need to get their tape measures out, covid measures are still in place as far as we are aware and this pub is clearly not sticking to IT.WE were moved to a quieter area thankfully. However the food was superb and service were excellent, its just a shame customer safety and comfort are clearly not a priority over bums on seats and profit, we are all aware its been a tough time for hospitality and everyone, but don't put your customers at risk.

Went for dinner as heard brilliant things about this place, location is lovely and the pub itself is nice and clean and airy. Tables are not social distanced in certain areas with some crammed into a small space. Food was overpriced and disappointing for what you get, service was quick. Manager was rude and you could hear her being rude and abrupt to staff which wasn’t appropriate in front of a bar full of customers.

Went to this restaurant today with my wife as i have been a few times before and its always been good.. which is why we were so disappointed with it! I got a medium Greek parmesan (£14) and the wife got a small pomme parmesan (£10).. My parmesan was a combo which had hardly any topping on one half and was really small in size! My wife's parmo was pretty much the same size.. no value for money whatsoever! I got a upgrade to skin on fries(£2.50) but what i got was fries but certainly no skin on them as they were just frozen fries that you buy from Aldi or something! When i challenged about there not being homemade.. the waitress said she has nothing to do with the price point?? How about mis-selling a product! I also found that both parmesans were not fresh and quite chewy chicken especially my wife's.. they looked like frozen breaded fillets in all honesty.. i had planned for a dessert but not a chance after the mains.. absolute rip off and normally id have complained but i did not want to make a scene in front of other customers.. bill came to nearly £40 and i will not be revisiting.A plus point was the girl who served us was very nice, after all its not her fault.

Booked a table for outside dining due to it being advertised as all fully covered. On arrival the table we were given was 60% soaked with water. When we asked to move to one of the other empty tables we were told we couldn’t as they were booked. The staff blamed the weather and weren’t taking any responsibility for us not being able to eat as we had expected. Basically the covering over the tables isn’t big enough and the edge of the outer tables all get wet from the run off of rain, added to the fact the tables are sited on a slope all the rain water then runs to soak most of the bench seats. I know they can’t help the rain but they shouldn’t advertise that everything is covered when it isn’t. This must happen a lot and they must let of people down.

My partner and I ate here on Friday 30th April. We booked a slot in the garden for food and then a subsequent booking in the drinks area (the barrels). We were seated, ordered drinks and then food and all was well, the food in particular was really good as always here. The huge disappointment for us was that after we finished our meals we didn’t see a server for 30 minutes, at which point I went in to the pub to ask if we could order more drinks and explained how our food slot was almost over and would we have to move the the drinks area (the place was half empty so we wondered if we could stay at our table for one more drink). 5 minutes later someone came to our table to tell us we need to move to the barrels as the table is booked, which is fair enough, but we still weren’t able to order more drinks. We then sat in the barrels for ten minutes and still didn’t have anyone come over (we were the only ones there and felt like we were in the naughty corner) so we booked a taxi to the smiths arms in Carlton and went inside to pay the bill and leave ASAP. The waitress then informed us that they had added a 10% tip to our bill. we asked for this to be removed for obvious reasons but still don’t know what we paid for as we weren’t given an itemised bill? Very disappointing service as it started so well but a lack of common sense and basic restaurant service let the visit down massively. We had been repeat customers but now are unsure whether we will return, it feels like once you are fed you are forgotten about as you’ve spent enough money already.

So I had a table booked for the "Enchanted Garden" for myself, wife and daughter, upon arrival we discovered that it was just the garden, that our table was reserved (no heater or cover as described).Drinks ordered £5 per pint!! Food ordered 2 Sunday roasts and a big fat Greek parmo medium size, all £14 each. We waited 45 minutes for the food, which considering our time slot was 90 min was astounding.. Roast dinner very average but edible, my parmo was 2 breaded chicken steaks ( not chicken breast fillet, 4 for £2 type in tesco) sparsely covered in cheese and zacharof sauce. All edges were black and burnt and unable to be cut with a knife as well as the chips being black and cold. By the time any staff had arrived to take my food back, my wife and daughter had nearly finished theirs. Waitress went to speak to the manager who didn't even have the decency to come to our table BTW to offer me a meal in a box to take home (still had to pay £14 for this). I told the girl that it was unacceptable and just take my food off the bill. She then brought the bill and asked me to pay the bill plus 10% tip which since I was going home to make my own tea now, was very insulting.Avoid poor all round

Lovely food but expensive for what it is. No clear difference between a small and medium parmo but an extra £4 eg Same amount of chips and Parmo looked the same size. Friendly service but they insisted we paid at the bar and therefore didn’t provide us with a receipt. Now I realise after doing the maths they added a surcharge to our bill. Annoying when they have a tips box at the bar and I had tipped them. So now I have tipped them twice !! Really nice beer garden but for this reason I can’t go back. I expect honesty from a restaurant, just like they expect customers not to visit if they have symptoms etc

Now is not the time to be too picky hence the 5 star rating. There are lots of positives as we come back after the very long lockdown. I last ate out on the 29th October- a few days shy of 6 months ago. The hospitality industry have been appallingly badly hit by the pandemic and it is great to be back. Great to have you back came the reply. Lots has been going on here during lockdown. There is an extension that will give another 30 odd covers when we can finally eat inside again. They have been hard at work outside erecting a large ‘tentacle’ with about 15 tables under it as well as service points. All very impressive. Heaters noted as well as blankets (£3 which I presume is a hire charge). Booking easy on line- table reserved for 90 minutes. We were seated 85 minutes from arrival and felt under no pressure to move though this was not the busiest time of day. If you just want a drink there are a number of beer barrel seating areas for a maximum if 6 in accordance with current regulations. As we had not eaten here for many months we had a starter and main. Menu a bit more limited than usual but still lots to choose from. My wife had garlic mushroom then chicken Katsura main with rice and broccoli. I had a prawn cocktail then a burger. All were gratefully enjoyed and we were delighted to be back to good British pub grub. Service was friendly and I had the impression staff were happy to be back at work. What about the ‘buts’. The bill came to almost £53 which is way above what we paid pre COVID. I noted a small Parmo had gone from £8 to £10- a large one from £15 to £18- inflation in thus time has been around 1% - my pay has remained totally flat. It seems price rises are around the 20% mark at a time when VAT has been cut (temporarily) from 20 to 5%! The licenced trade has suffered terribly financially. Staying infection clear has been my main preoccupation in lockdown as a front line Doctor. Nonetheless such major price rises aggravated by a steep fall in tax suggests this place risks not holding business longer term. Additionally they have started the odious practice of adding ‘an optional 10% service charge to the bill’. Just see how trying to remove this nasty extra pans out- social leprosy follows? This practice has rarely shown its face locally and I have automatically deducted 1 point from the few restaurants here who pull this stunt. It is only due to current circumstances that I am not doing this here. Redmarshall is a pleasant but not outstanding village in an area of below average affluence. I am fearful that prices are being pushed over the top- that coming from someone on a senior Doctor’s salary and no mortgage. I recall an unusual episode of Gordon Ramsey’s ‘Hells kitchen’ where the food was fine but prices too high. The bank were telling the owner to put up prices to increase revenue as trade fell off. Punters stayed away even more reducing revenue in practice and a vicious downward spiral followed. I am fearful this is where this pub is heading especially if increases in VAT planned for later this year to 12.5% and next year back to the normal 20% are reflected in even more price hikes. This pub was already on the expensive side pre COVID. The market just will not stand this. This is a pleasant pub serving good quality British pub grub, in particular the Teesside parmo. I am sure there is a strong and very viable business here. There is a lot of goodwill to the pub industry - which I reflect in my grade this time- but I am fearful for this place at this price point for the longer term when the novelty of lockdown has worn off.

Its was our first time here, a family of 5. Booking is simple, place is nice, staff are well mannered, COVID rules in place, and the food was nice although the chips need work.However, it has to be the most overpriced pub grub in the area, £16 for fish and chips with all other meals not far off that price.Kids meals dont include drinks or a pudding which for me puts them in the overpriced category also.Such a shame, but it means we wont be returning.

My partner and I have really enjoyed our meals here previously. He phoned this evening to ask if they were still doing takeaway, as they were doing in lockdown. He was told yes and to order using the app. He placed our order as soon as he came off the phone, and drove to collect. We live a 22 minute drive away. When he arrived he was told they had put the money back in his account because they weren't taking anymore orders. When he placed the order he gave his mobile number, so they could have called to let us know. So due to poor customer service, he had a 44 minute round trip to be left empty handed at 6.30pm. Appalling.

Awful experience from start to finish. I visited with my husband and sons, we arrived for our table at 4pm that I had booked online the previous day. On arrival it took three attempts for them to find our booking they tried name, surname they finally found the booking once I displayed the confirmation email on my phone. We were then seated at our table next to the entrance where visitors are asked to wait to be seated. The space was very limited and definitely not 2 metres, we were moved tables and abruptly told by the manager that you don’t need to be 2 metres apart it’s one metre plus. We then waited 1 hour and 10 minutes for our meals to arrive, as you can imagine we are beginning to feel a little disgruntled, my husband and I discussed again raising our points with the manager but decided we would just leave it and enjoy our food once it arrived. Food arrives and it’s average at best. We then come to paying the bill. it took 35 minutes for us to settle our bill!!! So after 4 attempts trying my husbands card and 1 attempt using mine all saying void due to their machines not working. We were then asked if we would leave go to the shop down the road and come back and pay. As we are unfamiliar with the area we declined this option but said we would be happy to make a bank transfer. After another 10 minutes the manager goes away and comes back with said bank details, after my husband trying from his account then I tried from my account it failed another three or four times again. “I’ll have to go and ring the owner” another ten minutes and the manager comes back apparently the digits were wrong. What a joke. So eventually we make the transaction, £91.95 for this shambolic visit. The manager is an absolute disgrace, no decorum what so ever. Classic case of doesn’t want the job but it was the only one she could get.

We were informed that our order would be 45 to 50 minutes wait, that’s fine, Saturday night and looked busy, no problem! At 40 minutes we were offered 2 steaks (there were 3 of us and we hadn’t ordered steaks!) We ordered more drinks during the wait! At 1 hour 10 minutes we asked when our food would arrive? No apology about wait - but informed that our food was being prepared and plated! 1 hour and 17 minutes our food arrived, still no apology about wait! Food OK - but not worth the wait. A garlic dip had been asked for at the time of ordering - no sign of it! When meal almost finished we were asked if everything was ok - we said apart from wait it was alright ( Parmo cheese was a bit burnt and hard). Asked about garlic dip - oops! - it finally arrived with half a chip left on plate!!!! Still no apology, which is so annoying, we can understand things go wrong and mistakes as made but for no-one to acknowledge this and apologise is awful customer service!! Needless to say, we will not be making a return visit.

Meal pre booked for 7.30 and food pre ordered in advance. When we arrived nothing was organised and they eventually tried to give us menus. Our starters arrived at 9pm. All this would have been bearable if the quality of the food had been good but it was mediocre at best. We have been going to the Ship for many years for celebrations, anniversaries etc but things have been going down hill for some time and I think we’ll be looking elsewhere in future. What a shame.

Came for a midweek meal as we had seen the new parmo menu and was a but disappointed.We ordered a deluxe parmo platter and a salt and pepper parmo.The deluxe parmo had a flaming rum parmo which just didn’t work, the whole platter ended up being soaked and tasting of rum. I’m a rum lover but this wasn’t a great rum, the parmo which should have had a shawarma kebab on it didn’t. The Brie one however was nice.The salt and pepper parmo had way too much in the way of beansprouts which overpowered the taste of the rest.The concept is great however with the popularity judging by how busy it was the execution isn’t great

Well booked a table for 5:30 tonight at The Ship Inn at Redmarshall for tea with Roslyn Longmire, Stan Longmire and Col been here lots of times over the years with family and friends always good food!! go tonight we didn’t want starters so booked our main course, after 6 before we got it not a problem as the place was busy, relaxed having a good catch-up with our friends, finished our meal was about 6:40pm waitress came up asked if we would like the desert menu Stan said yes and she said we would have to be quick as our table was booked for 7 eh??? could maybe be a bit longer, when we queried this she said tables are only allocated for 1hr 30 mins!! sorry won’t be back declined the desert menu, meanwhile next customers stood behind Ros’s chair waiting to be seated, I asked if there was anywhere we could just have a drink? sorry tables are full n no room round the bar wtf ordered a taxi and in the Penny Black pub by 7:30, obviously more of a restaurant now than a pub, only glad we weren’t having a 3 course meal

Been recommended this place by ma mate Alex, he lives nearby. He been there a few times coz he lives nearby. Parmos are real nice but aren't as big as they used to be, I ordered gammon, food came quick and the seating was interesting also. Loved the look of the place, clean tidy, the service was prompt and pleasant. One thing I want to say that goes against this place and it's just 1 thing, everything else is perfect! The portion sizes aren't very good. I was left a bit hungry. Will be back tho

Don't know where to start , two management on the shift one had some control the other just wanted mingle and look like he knew what he was doing , 4 meals ordered with him and all 4 orders were wrong , the poor waiting staff kept having to rectify his mistakes . One was a serious mistake with allergies, as he just wouldn't listen to the 4 occasions it was asked . The food that was contains gluten was just removed from the plate .

Recently had lunch here and we weren’t disappointed, we both had Chicken Parmo’s and to be honest it’s the nicest I’ve had in a long time, staff were friendly and the prices reasonable, will be returning very soon.

A great family venue, I took my mother, wife and 6 year old son for a meal at the ship. The service was fantastic, the food was spot on. We all have different meals but the same result. Extremely satisfied. We will definitely be back! 10/10

Vine aquí hoy para comer el domingo con la madre como un regalo para nosotros tanto a comer a algún lugar, por alguna razón que ella sugirió ir al barco como vinimos hace un año o así y no me puedo quejar en lo más mínimo. Pedimos un asado cada domingo y pagamos £3 extra para la selección de carnes en contraposición al 1 standard de carne. Cuando la comida llegó el tamaño de las porciones eran muy pequeñas, teniendo en cuenta que pagamos £13 cada uno por comida. Pagar 3 libras extra por más carne me decepcionó mucho con el tamaño de la porción, conseguimos trozos de carne grasos minúsculo que no es lo duro que cabe esperar cuando has pagado extra para ellos. A penas había verduras en todas las comidas, con la salsa era como el agua y el budín de yorkshire era otro asunto, aunque era enorme y ocupaba más de la placa era como comer carbón. . Demasiado. hecha, insípido y seco. En total por 2 refrescos y 2 Domingo almuerzos pagamos £32 y sinceramente estoy decepcionado con la experiencia, no volveré y tampoco lo hará mi madre. Para la cantidad que cuesta para los dos de nosotros hubiera esperado a tener una cena que actualmente disfrutamos.
