From the moment you drive into the carpark this hotel is just lovely. The court yard is stunning along with the entrance. The main hall to the bar and dinning room is stunning and has so much charter . We were meet by the hosts Andrew and Ann who were just awesome explained the history and showed us round . Great bar and lovely breakfast just wished we could have stayed longer. The rooms are lovely and the under floor heating is a great plus to the bathrooms. Lovely beds and feel comfortable.

My husband and I was traveling through the Cotswolds, we were keen to have a beer in this historic Inn, reportedly one of the oldest Inns in England. Sadly the bar was closed, but wait, the lovely new owners opened their doors, not only did Tom the owners son stop working on restoring this beautiful Inn, he served us the best alcohol free beer we’ve ever tasted the Lucky Saint. Whilst we sipped sat in the idilic medieval courtyard both he and his father took time to give us the fascinating history of this Inn and its guest, namely Queen Elizabeth 1st and Oswald Mosley. We live in the States so sadly we won’t be able to make this place our local. Lucky locals is what we say!!

Nicely done food in a pleasant environment. Friendly service. I had Cornish Battered Fish & Chips - thick piece of fish and really crunch batter. Trimmings just right. Rather quiet for a Saturday night so a god contrast to the Lamb (in the same village). Recommended

We booked in for supper here since it was near our overnight accommodation. We were warmly greeted by the owner and seated on very comfortable chairs in a warm and charming room. The menu is quite limited at the moment, I think the business is still recovering from the restrictions of covid, but our pork in a sauce was delicious and nicely presented. A sticky toffee pudding rounded off the meal nicely. The wine list had plenty of choice and was reasonably priced; we particularly liked the fact that house wine could be ordered in a half litre carafe. I'd recommend the Shaven Crown for a relaxing, pleasant evening with a delightful and professional host.

During our stay at the hotel we enjoyed a delicious dinner. I chose a chicken and bacon paupiette whilst my wife chose the burger, argued to be the best ever by the restaurant manager, and proved to be very good indeed! The mains were followed by a wonderful berry cheesecake accompanied by lavender ice cream, and a cheese board of local cheeses. The courses were presented beautifully, served expertly, and the meal overall was truly delicious.

We stayed at the hotel and had an evening meal in their restaurant. The hotel is full of charm and one of the oldest Inns in the country. the bar is well stocked and serves a good selection of Hook Norton beers. the dining area is well spaced and feels intimate whilst. still maintaining social distances. Abilio and his team are very attentive and service was excellent. I had the sirloin steak, (absolutely superb and from a West Country producer) and my wife enjoyed the Cod loin. The wine list is reasonably priced and extends from affordable single glass to vintage bottles. Very good value and perfect friendly setting. Thank you Abilio and Vasco for your hospitality.

My wife and I visited the Shaven Crown yesterday evening for a superb dinner. I had salt baked beetroot to start and the curried cauliflower for main. I am not a vegetarian, but they sounded delicious as described on the menu. I was not dissapointed - both were superb. My wife had smoked salmon followed by a burger - also delicious. They clearly have a very talented chef! A good selection of wines on the list - reasonably priced as was the whole meal. The Shaven Crown is a historic treasure of a building and although it was very quiet, it has a charming, classy and peaceful ambience. Will definitely revisit.

We were due to stay at this lovely hotel, but had a call to say that the boiler had broken down and that there was no heating or hot water. They kindly arranged alternative accommodation nearby but we decided to continue with our plans for diinner and eat at The Hotel. We are so glad we did! We were warmly welcomed by the hotels newish proprietor who apologised for the heating issues (which hadn't affected the Restaurant area) and in any event there was a roaring fire cracking away in the magnificent lounge! We were then taking to our table and extremely well looked after by our host Jade for whom nothing was too much trouble. We ordered an excellent bottle of wine which was really good value, and our food was superb from starter through main to delicious desert. We were then shown around the hotel by the proprietor who is rightly proud of this lovely old hotel. We hope to stay another time.

This restaurant was very close to the B &. B we were staying at. The hotel and restaurant are apparently under new management and both have been recently refurbished. The entrance to the hotel looked very nice. There was a bar on the main floor, but we only came to eat. We were escorted to the dining room which was only occupied by one other couple. The waitress quickly arrived with menus. There were limited choices on the menu. My husband chose a steak and requested it to be cooked medium rare, and I selected the pork chop dinner. There was a bit of a wait before our meals arrived and we were getting a bit concerned . . . but had no other plans for the evening. But, oh my, when the food was placed before us, we knew we were in for a treat! The steak was perfect, moist, and flavorful. And my pork chop was the best I have ever eaten in about fifty years of traveling and more than sixty eating pork. We spoke with the new chef and complimented him on his fine cooking.

We arrived early for our table booking so we could enjoy a drink before our meal. we informed the waiter that one of our party was unable to join us, before our table time. We ordered main courses and then waited to be seated in the restaurant. We were called through to our table and then waited and waited to be served our food. Our food arrived, first impressions, small portions, presentation ok. My husband had the cauliflower dish which was tasty but the size of a starter. The fish I had was small but ok, uninspiring. Our son and girlfriend both opted for the burgers. Half way through it was found that one of the burgers contained, what appeared to be plastic. The burger was taken back to the kitchen and our sons girlfriend was asked if she wanted to order anything else. The menu is very limited and she obviously did not want to risk another burger and the rest of us had already finished. Our host seemed very surprised that we did not want to order deserts. We would like to support a local business, but based on this experience we can't recommend it.

Unfortunately for us, the restaurant was closed for renovation when we stayed but with at least two other pubs/restaurants within a 5 minute walk and another in the next village over, there plenty of options. We popped in to grab a quick drink and were immediately bowled over by the large, old oak doors, the sweeping staircase, the tall beamed ceiling and the inviting fire. It brought back memories of a luxurious country pub. The owners were really friendly and their resident black lab, Gertie, greeted us with enthusiasm but decorum. We didn’t eat or stay there (as we were staying up the road) but I must say that the main ‘grand room’ was the perfect place to ‘get away from it all’ and chill out with a hot cup of coffee (and Baileys!). They also have a wonderful courtyard surrounded by herbs, fig trees, water features, statues and more historical pieces which would be fabulous in the summer. It’s not often that you find a place that is steeped in history that is presented so charmingly. Plenty of car parking at the rear of the hotel/pub too.

We entered the pub and found ourselves in a small reception hall. There was no one to greet us so we hesitated a bit before spotting a sign painted in the wall indicating the direction of the dining room. So we headed that way. We turned the corner and barely took a few steps before a loud male voice barked “Can I help you?” Not at all in a warm welcoming tone but that of one who felt we were trespassing on his property. We told him we had reservations for lunch. He ordered us to go to the bar and wait. We were so put off that had we not travelled quite a distance to get there, we would have left right there and then. Thankfully the lady in the bar was very friendly and cheerful.

We stayed for one night at a reasonable rate of £85. The place itself is gorgeous but the room was tiny as was the breakfast area. No room to swing a cat!! No hot water from the bathroom tap and only a trickle came out of the cold tap. Room was cold but most disappointing of all was the service. We weren’t made to feel overly welcome and everything seemed a bit of a chore, e.g asking for a piece of toast for our son for breakfast was met with a slight eye roll. We were charged an additional £10 to use the travel cot when it came to check out, we often go for weekends away and we have never been charged to use a cot before. Lovely place, beautiful, clean room, very comfy beds. Had already been warned that the kitchen was out of order, before we arrived, which was helpful. We spent a lovely few hours sitting in the courtyard in the afternoon. In the morning, it was a really sunny day and they allowed us to decamp outside for a tasty continental breakfast. They do have plumbing issues, with the cold water not working properly, so shower was far to hot, but this aside would recommend.

We stayed one night and were warned beforehand the kitchen was out of action for hot food. An excellent continental breakfast was provided. We stayed in a basic room which had crisp white bed linen and robes and a small shower ensuite. The shower controls were outside of the shower which was awkward. The shower pressure was good but the curtain and tiles had seen better days. The taps in the basin were loose and had poor pressure. The courtyard had crumbling tiles and there was bird detritus very noticeable just before you went into the main reception. It is however a stunning building with a helpful owner. There are three excellent pubs locally The Lamb (great pub grub and good atmosphere) The Wychwood (more contemporary venue offered theme nights) The Hare (excellent food & service). Very pleased that the children's menu was a half portion for half price rather than a chicken nuggets option, so the children got to choose their own meals (they usually share an adult portion). The starters and mains were beautifully presented and delicious (goat's cheese salad, one on an English breakfast theme and a salmon and prawn starter, followed by cod with ratatouille and spinach with an aubergine purée which was lovely). Amazing, partly medieval, building in course of renovation with all the public areas we saw finished to a very tasteful and authentic looking standard. We enjoyed lunch; 3 from a set menu and one a la carte. The main courses were enjoyed by all. Not overly generous portions (but they were sufficient for lunch) and skilfully cooked and well presented. Desserts were OK but spotted dick was definitely not 'like mother made' and was crusty and dry rather than a traditional suet pudding. Hence the dropped star - sorry.

The ploughmans lunch was reasonable but not exceptional or very good. The ancient building is beautifulo but the rexcent renovation was done carefully but made the place look more like a museum than a living building. The price of the ploughmans was exceptionally high almost double than it costs for instance in Devon and even more than in London

The chefs are obviously imaginative and highly skilled, producing food that is typical of exclusive, highly priced restaurants, but at affordable prices and in an informal atmosphere. The seafood in particular manifests the Head Chef's connection with the West Country. All important presentation of the dishes is first class and the service is friendly and efficient. This is now one of the best eating spots in the Cotswolds.

We stayed for 3 night in this wonderful historical building, which has been tastefully refurbished to a high standard. Ample parking spaces in the rear car park. Excellent service and food. Our thanks to the staff and hosts Evelyn and Phil

En inte så omfattande meny. Vi blev dock glatt överraskade av prisnivån som kändes klart prisvärd både med tanke på kvaliteten på maten och den fina miljön

I was interested to read that the Shaven Crown had reopened under new ownership because I had read a history of the inn published by the local History Society. This included a description of the building itself together with its importance as a hostelry near a river crossing (the cost of maintaining different halves of the bridge lay with the parishes on either side!).

Stumbled on this charming old Coaching Inn on the way home from a wet and windy visit to Highgrove and we were pleasantly surprised to be shown straight into the dining room and served without delay. The service was polite, efficient and prompt and the food was excellent. The dining room was very comfortable and my only criticism would be in agreement with a previous reviewer in that the place where you eat is slightly detached from the old building at the front where the bar is located. This provides peace and quiet as well as privacy but it is a bit sterile when it comes to atmosphere. There were only two other tables occupied and it may be different on a busy weekend but I would not discourage a visit because it really is very good.

We visited as a family, including 2 year old, for a bar snack lunch on a wet weekday. Our party was a little large for the tables in the bar and so we were kindly offered a table in the dining area - this was perfect for our needs. The service was very friendly and efficient and the food was superb, excellent quality and just what we needed. We spent a lovely leisurely time there and will be sure to call in again the next time we visit the area.

The food was great, and although the menu didnt have a massive choice it wasnt necessary as it did offer a good range anyway. The food was really nicely presented and tasted amazing (even if the steak was slightly overcooked). The only improvement I would say would be a bit of background music or something to add atmosphere, the building itself is fantastic, but without any other noise by my partner and myself it was a bit quiet and felt like a school building.

Dropped in on the way home from work for a relaxing drink and got just that. Bar area very welcoming as are the staff the owners gave us a very warm welcome, following a late afternoon hiking. The food was excellent the price was right too, with a good selection of real ales too. No complaints at all

This was one of the best Sunday lunches we've had - the food was excellent, the service impeccable, and fantastic value for money. We were left to enjoy our meal without being rushed, and felt like we had the place to ourselves. We can't wait to return!

The Shaven Crown has to be one of the best hotels I have stayed in, and having stayed in a number of international hotels on business and pleasure that is how highly my party and I rated it. The transformation of the building by the current owners is extremely impressive and in keeping with its age. The owners made us feel very welcome from the moment we arrived and nothing was too much trouble. The food was to die for and quite how I will be able to survive without the Costwolds' breakfast is anyone's guess. The rooms are tastefully furnished and there are plenty of car parking spaces at the rear of the property. My only very minor comment is the shower needs a soap dish and a grab rail for the more mature customer. When we next return to the Cotswolds The Shaven Crown is top of our list. A truly enjoyable stay.

Really enjoyed our lunch here. The place is impressive - centuries old but with a recent modernisation of the interior that has been done sympathetically in order to maintain many of the original features, a good combination of old and new. Service was great - friendly and attentive without being intrusive, and our little one enjoyed all the attention from the staff! Food was just what we needed for the occasion. Generous portion of roast beef with all the trimmings and tricky toffee pud! Couldn't fault it and surprisingly good value too. Will definitely be back when we're next in the area.

Met friends here for lunch today. The food was delicious having had the Pork Loin. The Cambridge Cream (Creme Bulee) with shortbread was delicious.

I visited the Shaven Hotel earlier today with my other half for lunch as we were in the area. We'd actually tried to eat at a nearby pub but were told that they had just finished serving as we arrived. Cloud, silver lining and all that!!

We had last visited The Shaven Crown a few years ago - a long time before it's new owners took over and undertook a complete refurbishment. The entrance hall is pretty much the same and reminds you exactly how old the building is and what an amazing history behind it. The new layout moves the bar to the front of the building (nearest the road) and the restaurant out towards the back of the building - overlooking an inner courtyard. The new decoration is a very successful mix of modern and traditional resulting in a nice, light open restaurant - and good spacing between tables as well, which is always nice.

This is a beautifully restored hotel which has retained a cosy, homely feel. The hosts, made us most welcome at all times. So good to find a hotel that GENUINELY welcomes dogs. My little canine friend received even more fuss and attention than I did!

We called ahead to the pub as we needed a camper stopover close Brize Norton. The landlord Dave was incredibly helpful and we were able to make use of the ample flat car park at the back of the pub for the night we needed. The facilities in the pub are first class and service was excellent - Dave went above and beyond to make our stay an absolute pleasure. Staff and locals were all friendly and welcoming to us. We were lucky it was ‘vinyls night’ so were treated to some great music while we were having drinks in the bar. Highly recommended, I’m sure we will be back soon

First timer and the experience was five stars all the way. I had the meaty breakfast which was brilliant and fresh and loads to eat. My daughter had the avocado on toast with a beautiful poached egg. Again it was excellent. We loved the decor and vibe of the cafe too. Service was superb and it really is dog friendly too. You must visit.

Visited with a friend for a bit of a business meeting/dinner followed by an overnight stay. It was everything we could have asked for and Hattie, who looked after us on arrival and through the afternoon and evening, was a superb host. Dinner (and breakfast) was great - good choice on the menu and very tasty. Rooms were smallish but perfectly fine, beds comfortable and my room had a spacious bathroom. Overall, a great place for a night out or an overnight stay.
