Tasty food but absolutely shocking experience with the delivery driver. I had received a call from Uber saying that the driver had arrived (it was external so there was no driver tracking) and I stood and pressed the buzzer for a good 5 minutes but no one came up. I contacted Uber to see who I could call to find out and as I was in the process of this, someone aggressively banged on the door of my flat (at 10pm). As I opened the door, the delivery driver proceeded to shout at me saying they had been trying to deliver for 45 minutes. When I said I hadn’t received this contact and I could show proof of this, he said no and spoke to me aggressively, calling me stupid. Regardless of the situation, it is absolutely unacceptable to treat someone like this. I have previously worked in hospitality myself and speaking to a customer like this would cost you your job. I rang the restaurant to report this and they were very apologetic and helpful. Food is tasty and good quality but this has completely ruined the entire experience.

The food was very good, but the delivery was missing the pickles, mango chutney and special raita which made the bhaji and popaddums very dry

I recently ordered from Shanaz Takeaway, and I was really impressed. The food arrived hot and fresh, and everything was packed well. I tried the Lamb Bhuna, and Chicken Tikka Masala, it was delicious – great flavours and generous portions. The service was quick and friendly, too. Definitely a go-to for tasty, satisfying meals. Highly recommend!

Useless deliveroo restaurant. Ordered 9pm. Order was accepted by the restaurant. On live chat to deliveroo at 11pm reporting no food delivered or contact from restaurant to say they can’t fulfill my order. Couldn’t get through on phone. Place closed at 10.15pm. So hungry, without food and won’t be ordering from them again. Avoid at all costs ! Edit : just seen the reply from the restaurant. Don’t buy it - The order was accepted and I believe then forgotten or ignored. Only was cancelled when Deliveroo chased them up at 11pm.

Excellent food but did not send rice and sent nan bread which I can't eat and never asked for. I realise this probably happened because it's very busy just now, but as the rest of the order is correct, I'm surprised.

Was very hungry so arriving early was a bonus. Always excellent food

Fabulous quality of food once again. Absolutely delicious and the best Indian takeaway in Edinburgh by far. We just love Shanaz. We occasionally branch out and try somewhere different if there is an offer on, but we always regret it as nowhere else ever matches up to Shanaz.

HOW much for a thimble of slimy mint sauce?! Seriously guys, this paltry portion of what you call mint sauce is enough to have me never, ever come back. The curry wasn't even too bad (albeit almost cold on arrival) but your skimping of the basics and penny pinching on things most other restaurants would give you complementarily is enough to have me never return.

The food from Shanaz Indian Takeaway was okay but nothing exceptional. The flavors were decent, but the dishes lacked the boldness and authenticity I was hoping for. The chicken in the curry was a bit dry, and the naan was slightly chewy rather than soft and fluffy. Delivery was on time, which was a plus, but the portions felt a little small for the price. It wasn’t bad, but it didn’t leave me eager to order again.

My order hadn’t even been started when I arrived to pick it up. Had to wait another 20min. Not ideal when you’ve ordered it nearly 30min before hand for pick up.

my chicken korma was SO buttery in a bad way. and the chicken was hard and had a weird texture like it had been microwaved.

Rubbish. Why try to deliver 50 mins early and then blame the kitchen? Food now dry and hard. It’s in the bin. Time for delivery is real. Return to restaurant is pathetic. Such a shame. Great food. Fools in charge.

I ordered a tikka masalla, veg pakoras and pilau rice. Everything ordered was delicious and the tikka was succulent. The driver also was a earlier than expected despite being during peak hours. Will order again.

Ordered redfort lamb curry was very spicy even though it should be very mild. Ordered mushroom rice again very spicy when every other Indian it is not not good considering family member has chilli allergies.2x Cheese nan was actually plain which is shocking. They only postives for this restaurant was the pakora and chicken tikka korma were tasty. Won’t been ordering again

I arrived to place my takeaway order. I rarely go for takeaway but this place is great and I’ve been going for 30 years on and off. Cash only was taken and I was told it would be about 10 mins. I returned about 15 mins later and before their advertised closing time. The doors were closed and bolted and lights out with nobody inside. Astonished, I called but no answer and no messaging facility. They have my cash - I have no food - they have closed up and left and for now, I have no recourse! No contact number or name was taken for me when I placed my order and that was slightly unusual but at the time I figured, they know me……🤷🏻‍♂️ Update - staff have made good their promise! Refund made in full and most importantly, I’m told all is well with the Chef’s wife. Normal service resumed and a first class service it is.

First time we have tried here after looking at the reviews and we were not disappointed. The food was absolutely lovely and at a reasonable price too. The purée chicken starter and the lamb rogan josh main, especially lovely. Definitely our go-to Indian from now on.

Takeaway only...the delivery was sooner than anticipated..the food was warm and the portions generous and reasonably priced. The 5 🌟 is for the best indian food ive had..since covid the usual restaurants i visit seem to have deteriorated..id given up on indian takeaway as it all tasted the same (same kitchen?)..overly spiced and over cooked..the last two times inedible...but Shanaz delivered fresh tasting ingredients that had the perfect balance of spice and taste..3people with different tastes and order All said it was the best they had had. We will be back to having our curry night! (My portions did me my meal for two nights) Highly recommended...

I always avoid getting food delivered, mostly because I fear the quality drops drastically- but oh my, this has to not only be the best food delivery experience I’ve had, but also the best Indian food I’ve had. The food arrived hot as if just out of the kitchen (yay) and packed neatly. The food itself was extremely generous portioning and not lacking quality at all! Amazing taste and cooked so well. For the cost being cheaper than most Indian restaurants, I’m also amazed that it’s the one place I’ve been to that hasn’t been stingy with the meat in the curry- so much, we were so full! We ordered the lamb Rohan Josh, tikka biryani, and the dall, all of which I recommend! Overall, amazing value- highly recommend 😊

The Shanaz has been offering takeaway food for many years. It's a small, basic shop where you can see the food being prepared on the grills behind the guy who takes the orders. Good takeaway food, very fairly priced and prepared quickly. For 4 main meals (Chicken Tikka (2), Chicken Tikka Masala, Green Herb Chicken) plus rice it averaged about £10 a head, so very competitive pricing. they've now got a certificate on the wall saying that they've got an award in a competition for takeaways in this part of Scotland. At this point they are cash-only which is pretty rare but there's a post office cash machine across the road. Definitely recommended

Well what can I say. We where here last year and tried the food and the family were blown away with the flavour. This year we returned to Stockbridge. Three nights into our stay and a second takeaway using the online booking. One of out favourites is Sylhety noodles 🍜. We always collect our food.

Ok so I’ve been a loyal customer to a curry house elsewhere in Edinburgh for about 20 years ( I’ll not name it ) but recently saw that Shanaz won Scottish curry award so gave them a try . 2 curry’s , Nan, a mixed starter and popadoms and dips for 40 pound. Great portions after both of us had two helpings and still had leftovers. Butter chicken was delicious, as was the chilli chicken. Good food , will definitely have again. .

The worst food ever. The chicken was full of red chilli powder abd had no other flavor. The naan was thick. We could not eat the food at all

Not only is the food great, they have great customer service. My partner ordered the wrong dish on our online order by accident. I took the dish back to the restaurant and they gave us the dish we wanted without question. We are forever grateful and will continue to eat here !

We had a Lamb Rogan Josh & Lamb Tikka Massala with boiled rice takeaway meals delivered & it was scrummy. DO recommend. Our local Shanaz is a long surviving Indian takeaway for good reason. Ordered Sunday 18:50 & arrived 17:10, 20 mins. Great value for money. Beautifully tender lamb & tasty sauces. More than enough for a single meal. Friendly order taking & delivery. We don't need excess salt or napkins for a value meal as fuel prices are rising & impacting businesses post Covid... Thanks Shanaz! Long may you survive & serve our local community.

I rarely write reviews but I have to share my thoughts about this place. I was an Indian living in Edinburgh for 3 weeks and wanted to try some Indian food (because they have decent middle eastern food in Edinburgh). This was the first place I had the courage to try. DO NOT go to this place if you’re looking for authentic Indian food. Total garbage. Raita had no salt/seasoning. It was completely tasteless. The tandoori chicken was chewy, dry, tasteless, and not seasoned. The chicken biryani tasted like turmeric rice—a lot of turmeric and no seasoning as such, definitely not biryani. They have only take-away and no napkins for take-away, which was just annoying. I realise that the comparison to authentic Indian might not be fair given that I was in Edinburgh, but there need to be some standards when one claims to be a highly-rated Indian restaurant. Please don’t be fooled by the high rating.

We order from them almost every Monday and the food has been great. Sometimes a bit hotter than normal but some of the guys love that. Keep it up please.

Got the chicken tikka vindaloo from here last night, was the cheapest Indian in the area so was a bit dubious but got to say, was absolutely amazing! Right heat, plenty of tasty chicken, piping hot, nice and thick.. Absolutely loved it no complaints at all.. The naan was OK as well, could have done with slightly more garlic on it but still enjoyed it.

Chicken korma is delicious. Tikka sauce too. Chips could be improved. Nan bread is good as are things like chicken pakora. The staff work hard and give good customer service

No queríamos volver a pedir Jalfrezi porque era demasiado picante que los otros Jalfrezi normales, pero nos encantó el pollo Tikka Masala.Esta vez pedimos Chicken Saag en lugar de pollo Jalfrezi.¡Oh sorpresa, fue terrible! !El pollo Tikka Masala tenía un sabor pésimo con un color amarillo, muy cremoso y muy pocas partes de carne flotando en un recipiente lleno de esa terrible salsa.Recibimos Chicken Palak en lugar de Chicken Saag y también estaba muy mal, sin sabor.No recomendaría este lugar y definitivamente iría a otro lado.

We have had takeaways from here on-and-off for more than 15 years, and can't find anywhere else we like so much. We used to live in Stockbridge and fell in love with their 'red fort' curry (which we have never found anywhere else). A measure of how good it is, we still occasionally travel all the way from Fife just to treat ourselves. Fingers crossed they survive another 15 years!

One of the best Indians we have had and the fact it’s a take away is all the better!! It is on the more expensive side but you get what you pay for!

I've ordered many times from Shanaz over the years, and it has always been delicious. Many Indian takeaways taste as though every dish has the same sauce, but Shanaz has always been different: each dish tasted different from each other. This time, we ordered five or six different dishes, and they all had the same overly sweet red sauce. Their tarka dhal in particular, used to be fabulous and just tasted tired and slightly burnt. Very disapointed.

Pido un korma ajo nan y veg pakorasEntrega bastante rápida, pero cuando aquí se abrió pakora había 4 como siempre, pero cuando menos de 1/2 del tamaño normal se llamó por teléfono inmediatamente para quejarme, casi nunca enviaban otra porción de pakoras de 1/2 tamaño. El principal fue como pescar mi 7 - 8 / pedacitos de pollo en mi korma y mi pan fue 2/3 de las porciones de tamaño normal que han sido impactantes este año
