Rubbish. Why try to deliver 50 mins early and then blame the kitchen? Food now dry and hard. It’s in the bin. Time for delivery is real. Return to restaurant is pathetic. Such a shame. Great food. Fools in charge.

I ordered a tikka masalla, veg pakoras and pilau rice. Everything ordered was delicious and the tikka was succulent. The driver also was a earlier than expected despite being during peak hours. Will order again.

Ordered redfort lamb curry was very spicy even though it should be very mild. Ordered mushroom rice again very spicy when every other Indian it is not not good considering family member has chilli allergies.2x Cheese nan was actually plain which is shocking. They only postives for this restaurant was the pakora and chicken tikka korma were tasty. Won’t been ordering again

I arrived to place my takeaway order. I rarely go for takeaway but this place is great and I’ve been going for 30 years on and off. Cash only was taken and I was told it would be about 10 mins. I returned about 15 mins later and before their advertised closing time. The doors were closed and bolted and lights out with nobody inside. Astonished, I called but no answer and no messaging facility. They have my cash - I have no food - they have closed up and left and for now, I have no recourse! No contact number or name was taken for me when I placed my order and that was slightly unusual but at the time I figured, they know me……🤷🏻‍♂️ Update - staff have made good their promise! Refund made in full and most importantly, I’m told all is well with the Chef’s wife. Normal service resumed and a first class service it is.

First time we have tried here after looking at the reviews and we were not disappointed. The food was absolutely lovely and at a reasonable price too. The purée chicken starter and the lamb rogan josh main, especially lovely. Definitely our go-to Indian from now on.

Takeaway only...the delivery was sooner than anticipated..the food was warm and the portions generous and reasonably priced. The 5 🌟 is for the best indian food ive had..since covid the usual restaurants i visit seem to have deteriorated..id given up on indian takeaway as it all tasted the same (same kitchen?)..overly spiced and over cooked..the last two times inedible...but Shanaz delivered fresh tasting ingredients that had the perfect balance of spice and taste..3people with different tastes and order All said it was the best they had had. We will be back to having our curry night! (My portions did me my meal for two nights) Highly recommended...

I always avoid getting food delivered, mostly because I fear the quality drops drastically- but oh my, this has to not only be the best food delivery experience I’ve had, but also the best Indian food I’ve had. The food arrived hot as if just out of the kitchen (yay) and packed neatly. The food itself was extremely generous portioning and not lacking quality at all! Amazing taste and cooked so well. For the cost being cheaper than most Indian restaurants, I’m also amazed that it’s the one place I’ve been to that hasn’t been stingy with the meat in the curry- so much, we were so full! We ordered the lamb Rohan Josh, tikka biryani, and the dall, all of which I recommend! Overall, amazing value- highly recommend 😊

Ordered last night as my girlfriend and I are staying in Edinburgh for a long weekend! Exceptionally tasty food! The salmon tikka was spectacular as well as the butter chicken and mushroom rice! Order from here it won’t disappoint

The Shanaz has been offering takeaway food for many years. It's a small, basic shop where you can see the food being prepared on the grills behind the guy who takes the orders. Good takeaway food, very fairly priced and prepared quickly. For 4 main meals (Chicken Tikka (2), Chicken Tikka Masala, Green Herb Chicken) plus rice it averaged about £10 a head, so very competitive pricing. they've now got a certificate on the wall saying that they've got an award in a competition for takeaways in this part of Scotland. At this point they are cash-only which is pretty rare but there's a post office cash machine across the road. Definitely recommended

Well what can I say. We where here last year and tried the food and the family were blown away with the flavour. This year we returned to Stockbridge. Three nights into our stay and a second takeaway using the online booking. One of out favourites is Sylhety noodles 🍜. We always collect our food.

Ok so I’ve been a loyal customer to a curry house elsewhere in Edinburgh for about 20 years ( I’ll not name it ) but recently saw that Shanaz won Scottish curry award so gave them a try . 2 curry’s , Nan, a mixed starter and popadoms and dips for 40 pound. Great portions after both of us had two helpings and still had leftovers. Butter chicken was delicious, as was the chilli chicken. Good food , will definitely have again. .

The worst food ever. The chicken was full of red chilli powder abd had no other flavor. The naan was thick. We could not eat the food at all

I can understand why Shanaz was awarded Edinburgh takeaway for 2023 as the food was delicious, the vegetable Kathmandu was amazing. Highly recommended.

Not only is the food great, they have great customer service. My partner ordered the wrong dish on our online order by accident. I took the dish back to the restaurant and they gave us the dish we wanted without question. We are forever grateful and will continue to eat here !

We had a Lamb Rogan Josh & Lamb Tikka Massala with boiled rice takeaway meals delivered & it was scrummy. DO recommend. Our local Shanaz is a long surviving Indian takeaway for good reason. Ordered Sunday 18:50 & arrived 17:10, 20 mins. Great value for money. Beautifully tender lamb & tasty sauces. More than enough for a single meal. Friendly order taking & delivery. We don't need excess salt or napkins for a value meal as fuel prices are rising & impacting businesses post Covid... Thanks Shanaz! Long may you survive & serve our local community.

I rarely write reviews but I have to share my thoughts about this place. I was an Indian living in Edinburgh for 3 weeks and wanted to try some Indian food (because they have decent middle eastern food in Edinburgh). This was the first place I had the courage to try. DO NOT go to this place if you’re looking for authentic Indian food. Total garbage. Raita had no salt/seasoning. It was completely tasteless. The tandoori chicken was chewy, dry, tasteless, and not seasoned. The chicken biryani tasted like turmeric rice—a lot of turmeric and no seasoning as such, definitely not biryani. They have only take-away and no napkins for take-away, which was just annoying. I realise that the comparison to authentic Indian might not be fair given that I was in Edinburgh, but there need to be some standards when one claims to be a highly-rated Indian restaurant. Please don’t be fooled by the high rating.

We order from them almost every Monday and the food has been great. Sometimes a bit hotter than normal but some of the guys love that. Keep it up please.

Got the chicken tikka vindaloo from here last night, was the cheapest Indian in the area so was a bit dubious but got to say, was absolutely amazing! Right heat, plenty of tasty chicken, piping hot, nice and thick.. Absolutely loved it no complaints at all.. The naan was OK as well, could have done with slightly more garlic on it but still enjoyed it.

Ya hemos pedido varias veces y estamos contentos con su calidad. No queríamos volver a pedir Jalfrezi porque era demasiado picante que los otros Jalfrezi normales, pero nos encantó el pollo Tikka Masala.Esta vez pedimos Chicken Saag en lugar de pollo Jalfrezi.¡Oh sorpresa, fue terrible! !El pollo Tikka Masala tenía un sabor pésimo con un color amarillo, muy cremoso y muy pocas partes de carne flotando en un recipiente lleno de esa terrible salsa.Recibimos Chicken Palak en lugar de Chicken Saag y también estaba muy mal, sin sabor.No recomendaría este lugar y definitivamente iría a otro lado.

Our family had a takeaway from Shanaz restaurant and were very impressed with quality and flavours of the food! Absolutely delicious, exciting and colourful. Definitely will try again and highly recommend to our friends.

We have had takeaways from here on-and-off for more than 15 years, and can't find anywhere else we like so much. We used to live in Stockbridge and fell in love with their 'red fort' curry (which we have never found anywhere else). A measure of how good it is, we still occasionally travel all the way from Fife just to treat ourselves. Fingers crossed they survive another 15 years!

One of the best Indians we have had and the fact it’s a take away is all the better!! It is on the more expensive side but you get what you pay for!

I love the food here. I live locally and have been here loads of times and it never fails to disappoint! The Mixed Grill from the tandoori section of the menu is an absolute must. So tasty.

I've ordered many times from Shanaz over the years, and it has always been delicious. Many Indian takeaways taste as though every dish has the same sauce, but Shanaz has always been different: each dish tasted different from each other. This time, we ordered five or six different dishes, and they all had the same overly sweet red sauce. Their tarka dhal in particular, used to be fabulous and just tasted tired and slightly burnt. Very disapointed.

Pido un korma ajo nan y veg pakorasEntrega bastante rápida, pero cuando aquí se abrió pakora había 4 como siempre, pero cuando menos de 1/2 del tamaño normal se llamó por teléfono inmediatamente para quejarme, casi nunca enviaban otra porción de pakoras de 1/2 tamaño. El principal fue como pescar mi 7 - 8 / pedacitos de pollo en mi korma y mi pan fue 2/3 de las porciones de tamaño normal que han sido impactantes este año

Solíamos pedir a Shanaz un tiempo atrás y siempre disfrutábamos de la comida, nunca tuvimos ninguna queja, pero esta vez, fue un desperdicio de nuestro dinero. La comida no tenía sabor, los garbanzos sabían como si hubieran salido de la lata y el pollo estaba duro. Mi hijo y yo sufrimos con la barriga molesta después, lo cual tampoco fue agradable. Al menos la lechuga era fresca, supongo.

Esta es nuestra segunda comida de este restaurante. La primera era para llevar. Fue muy buena! Nuestra segunda comida era esta noche. Decidimos comer en. Aunque la zona de restaurante para comer es muy pequeña, estaba limpia y amable. Pero lo más importante, la comida era una vez más, ¡fabuloso! Muy sabrosa y suficiente para llevar las sobras a casa para otra sabrosa comida. ¡volveremos! La próxima vez voy a tomar fotos de la comida!

A pesar de vivir a 5 minutos de Shanaz, nunca lo había intentado debido a las revisiones variables. Siempre me preocupa que la comida india sea nadando en aceite. Pero en esta fría noche, quería algo que me calentara, así que pedí una comida para llevar, y fue absolutamente delicioso. Y estaba listo exactamente cuando dijeron que sería. Los poppadoms simples fueron los mejores que he comido: muy ligeros y delgados, no grasosos en absoluto, y sin el sabor salado / artificial que los poppadams a veces pueden tener. El tarka dhal estaba bellamente condimentado y mucho más delgado que los que he comido antes, lo que lo hacía tanto cálido como refrescante. Y el vegetal rezela, que nunca he comido antes, era simplemente precioso, probablemente el mejor plato indio que he comido. El champiñón bhaji y la raita mixta eran buenos, pero el rezela y el tarka dhal fueron realmente extraordinarios. Soy vegetariano, soy quisquilloso con mi comida, y me da asco que simplemente me ofrezcan el típico y mediocre manojo de vegetales en siete fortalezas diferentes de salsa. La comida que tuve esta noche fue fresca, ligera pero abundante, a buen precio y satisfactoria, y sin duda volveré por más.

La orden hasta Scoffable perdió, pero el restaurante lo rapido y me dieron el dato que antes habíamos terminado nuestra popadoms.

Nuestra primera visita fue prometedor. Me gustó la comida la primera vez a pesar de que me dieron mal el biryani, pero la increíble naan pan peshwari lo compensa. La segunda vez me dio la orden correcta, pero el pan peshwari naan era repugnante, dura, correosos y claramente antiguo. Mi marido pidió un cordero pathia y esta vez llegó con la extraña adición de piezas de limón cocinado toda, incluyendo la piel. Era muy extraño y él pareció bastante desagradable de haber comido accidentalmente. Es altamente improbable que volveremos.

We ordered Shanaz to our accommodation. They delivered as per the time given. The food was hot, extremely tasty and there was loads. It was excellent and well worth the order and the price was very reasonable for such good food.

Pedimos un pollo y cordero madras anoche con arroz y pan. Fue un buen curry sabroso y el arroz estaba muy bien preparado. Sólo el pollo es halal para llevar en este, así que si estás buscando evitar halal, entonces recomiendo el cordero aquí. Seguro que volveremos.

I previously wrote a review about this place and have been getting my take aways almost weekly for over 5 years however the food standards have dropped so bad it's just forced me to look elsewhere. I ordered a potatoe dish and it only had 4 potatoes in it! And my chicken curry didn't even constitute as a chicken curry due to lack of chicken presence! Don't know if management reads the reviews but buck up guys you are going down the drain at this rate.

We had a take-away on Thursday night. The starter was bland and unexciting. My lamb Korai was poor and whatever the meat was, it was most certainly NOT lamb. If I'm really lucky it was perhaps just tough beef. Not a place I would give a second chance.

Don't be put off by the shabby appearance of this take-away's interior. The kitchen is always a hive of activity, and the smells coming from it make you say "Shall we have a Shanaz tonight?"The staff are really friendly. They'll do the British Curry Classics, and do them well, but the house specialities are really worth trying.The only let-down is the pre-cooked rice - it's a bit pricey and nothing special.Good value for money.

Awful Service, ordered online, called to see where my order was after 1 hour. "OHH sorry no one had checked the online orders ..... and actually despite the fact out system took your order, we dont deliver to you, so sorry bye!" and they hung up. Shocking, someone did call back from a mobile order 20 minutes later and offered to get our order out to us, in about 45 minutes, so that would be over two hours after ordering. Needless to say I wont he trying here again!

I have used this friendly take away on numerous ocassions and have never been less than totally satisfied.I usually opt for lamb and is consistantly lean and tender.The naan are a good size and even after travelling a few miles to my home are always perfect.My one wish is that they open a small restaurant where you can sit in but until then home deliveries will do !This small takeaway, in my opinion offers possibly the best curry available and should be tried if you havent already done so.

I live close close this fantastic take away. Every time I finish work on my way home I pass by and the smell of spice and flavour greets my nose. I am a frequent visitor and would way that it is better than any indian restaurant in Edinburgh.

This takeaway spot in Stockbridge has good food, all of which we found tasty. I appreciate that they do a good job on the basic, less flashy dishes, such as naan and the humble lentil daal, which was, in fact, maybe everyone's favourite item in our order. Our jalfrezi dish was pretty good, but I am fairly adventurous about spicy cooking, and I found it more suitable to mix in with other milder dishes for some kick than to eat on its own.Also, we put our order together using their online menu, and there were some small differences in price when we collected the order in person; just something to be aware of, and they should perhaps update the online system.Quite likely to use Shanaz again next time we're looking for an Indian takeaway; reasonably priced and definitely worth a try.

Been a customer of this place for over 5 years. I highly recommend this place. My fav dishes are the bryani, chicken curry, murgh tikka masala and saag aloo. The guy who takes the calls and if you pick up - is at the desk is a lovely pleasant person. He knows my voice when I ring so that is good customer service. I have an colleague from India who doesn't eat at take aways or Indian restaurants as she claims that she is Indian and she can make the her own Indian food, and even she loves Shanaz!!!! As I have been a customer of this place for 5 years there were times when the food was slightly not up to the usual standard, the staff have always been more than happy to accept feedback. love this place, love the food, love the people who work here - keep it up Shanaz !!!!!! have recommended so many people to Shanaz and they wont go anywhere after trying the best !

Can not give place enough praise! It has taken me over year to find a good Indian in edinburgh. This place is fantastic have ordered 3 times now and every time it has been outstanding! Superb food and good service. May take a while as everything is made from fresh. To me waiting for an extra 10/20 mins for fresh food and there food is 100% worth it and I assure you I dont ever say this I am a massive food snob. Enjoy you wont be disappointed.
