I don’t normally do reviews but I feel absolutely ripped of tonight with my meal. I had a giant Yorkshire pudding which I order beef which they ran out of so was left with sausage or chicken, I chose the sausage. When it came it was no bigger than a side plate with 2 sausages a couple of spoonfuls of bland mash potatoes and peas with weak gravy, for £16.75. My partner had a beef and ale pie and the pastry was raw still.

Limited lunchtime menu, but good options, baguettes, jacket potatoes etc. with good selection of fillings - all the meals we saw served looked great with generous portions. We chose from the lunch club menu and were not disappointed - gammon cooked perfectly followed by yummy deserts. Friendly and welcoming service from Deb at the bar when we arrived (with table guidance), great service from the lovely Savannah, efficient, friendly and a sparkling smile, and food cooked perfectly by Stacey behind the scenes!! So from the outside it looks awesome, so in we go...small menu which is normally a good sign that the emphasis is on quality. The very pleasant bar maid said the food would be 20mins or so as the young chef who's name was "babe" and resembled Edward scissorhands was busy, the salmon looked like a good option so we went with that. It took over an hour to arrive so I naturally assumed the salmon was line caught and prepared fresh, it appeared at our table in what I can only describe as a puddle of lemon flavoured seaman, a few wrinkled new potatoes a tiny bowl of peas and lettuce leaves. It really was the funniest thing ever, I was horrendous haha. My beautiful girlfriend was nearly sick in my car, it really made my day...best £26 I've ever spent.

Unfortunately our experience in this pub wasn’t great. The staff were rude and unfriendly. We ordered our drinks and the waitress got one of the drinks wrong, we ordered vodka and lemonade but we were given a vodka and coke. We told her it was wrong and not what we had ordered, she defensively asked what we wanted her to do about it! It was rude. Not wanting to cause any drama, we accepted the vodka and coke, but we left after one round. The pub wasn’t warm and welcoming like you would have thought from the outside.

Lovely meal with the family as long as you are not a vegetarian, my starter was lovely. 10/10 the main course......I asked for the vegetarian carvery option....my veggie sausages and gravy arrived after I had finished my vegetables, and 6 people had already finished eating, I never got got the glass of water I asked for 3 times. Dessert/pudding was advertised as brandy snaps with cream fresh fruit and ice cream. The ice cream was obviously forgotten. We paid and left couldn’t really be bothered to spoil family time with attempting to find out why my lunch was made so difficult.

06th October 2019 Where to start...... From the outside the place looks awesome. A lovely market town pub on a Sunday afternoon, offering a carvery, with parking directly opposite on the nearby square, We approach the bar and order a pint of Carling and a black coffee. Coffee freshly made and pleasant, Carling awful and flat. 2 x Carverys ordered. Blackboard showing a choice of 4 meats offered Beef, Lamb shank (£1.50 extra), Pork & Chicken breast. We approach the server, 'pork or beef' she asks, is there chicken by any chance please, no sorry that's all gone. No problem. Looking at the options the scraggy piece of beef left would probably have made a good spare belt so we chose to go with the pork! A generous helping of pork served. Would you like carrots and green beans we are asked (sorry i thought we were at a carvery where you normally help yourself to veg), the watery carrots and beans dished up we are told to then help ourselves to the other delights!! Roast potatoes, cauliflower cheese and mash potato with a shop bought 16 for a £1 Tesco value Yorkshire pudding to finish it off with. Can't wait!! Half a dozen roasts go on the plate, a couple of pieces of cauli, a dollop of mash and a 5p Yorkshire followed by a ladel of gravy that required world arm wrestling biceps to even stir. A so we begin....Roast potatoes inedible. So overcooked there was no potato left in the middle. Thank God there was no pork crackling!! If the roast potatoes where anything to go by you would have needed teeth like Jaws from Moonraker to get through it! Cauliflower sauce consistency of milk with no taste and they must have bought the mash from Homebase in the wall paper paste section. We've eaten out all over the world and had lots of carveries and this was definitly the WORST one EVER!

This was probably the worst pub dining experience we’ve ever had. My wife and I ordered Cod & chips and Chicken & bacon salad. The food was tasteless and poorly cooked. It was like it has been stored in a freezer for years then cooked in a microwave. When we complained, there was no apology, they went behind the bar, started shouting and swearing and we were made to feel very unwelcome. Don’t waste your money on this place. Not even Gordon Ramsey could turn it around. What a hole! I wouldn’t even give it one star.

Since with chicken was a mild curry sauce nothing Italian about chicken. Tasted good but whole experience was a dissapointment. No apology given for late service with only 3 dinners in pub. Following the remembrance day service we decided to eat here to save cooking Sunday lunch at home. We can honestly say it was the worst meal we have ever had eating out. The food was tough stringy and tasteless and some vegetables were boiled to death while others were not even cooked through. The chicken had been boiled and then dry roasted with no fat and no seasoning. The gravy was solid and could be cut into squares. It was absolutely dreadful and a complete waste of our time and money.

It's a lovely cosy pub I've been for a drink a few times but this was the first time I tried the food. My husband had a filled Yorkshire pudding which he quite enjoyed, however I had a rather disappointing hot pot. The potatoes were fried slices of potato that had obviously not been cooked with the hotpot so effectively chips! The best part of hot pot is when the potato soaks up some gravy and then goes crispy on top so this was a disappointment. The meat part was very tasty but this came with some bread and no vegetables so it felt like it was samey and lacking something. I believe there was once some carrot in The hot pot but it had most dissolved during cooking. I would eat here again but would make very different choices next time.

Very attentive in cleaning the high chair for us, checking on us throughout and the landlady even brought crayons/colouring book to our son to keep him occupied. Nice touch greatly appreciated.Food: A good choice of the usual carvery meats and veg. All cooked to a good standard and in no short supply. The gravy was delicious! everything was piping hotSummary: First experience of the carvery here and it was a very positive one. Hats off to the staff for their attention and was largely a good reflection on why they achieved Marstons 'Pub of the year'

Ate here with friends on a quiet Monday lunchtime. Restaurant room was clean, tidy and pleasantly warm with background heat. Small but sufficient choice of well tapped real ales and lagers, pleasant service from bar and waiting staff. Menu covered a good range from sandwiches and lite bites to substantial sized roast with veg. Fish and chips were lovely, large piece of cod with what looked and tasted like homemade chips. Roast chicken came with stuffing, mash and 3 fresh veg, all reasonably priced. Would happily return.

Popped in here for lunch and loved the lay out of the place. There's an area for everyone and the staff were very helpful from taking the food order to the delicious meals we were served up in no time at all.The place was quite lively for a mid week post Christmas visit and looking forward to revisiting again at the next earliest convenience. There's a lot to be said for these traditional Pubs and Lutterworth have several which are equally as good.

This is a Marston's pub, so the beer and the menu are fairly predictable. It's perfectly OK, the food is tasty enough but there's no real atmosphere, at least there wasn't while I was there. They have a dish called 'surf, turf and cluck' which amused me - scampi, steak and chicken. It was tasty and plentiful - good value for money.

If you are a local and stand in the side bar not the front you get served whatever, even when you have been standing for 10 mins and they come in 5mins after you, I'm sure this pub could be so much better, and how it won Marston pub of the year God only knows and he isn't telling anyone else

Turned up without booking, only one other table of 4 in the restaurant so not a problem. Ordered the food along with a pint of lager and a pint of diet coke. Coke arrived as a half! Starters of prawn cocktail great, the t-bone steak was ordered medium, it was so rare a vet could have revived it! The scampi ordered with garden peas and chips, chips uncooked and peas similar! Steak was sent back but they said that was the last steak and so removed from the bill. Nothing done about the scampi despite only eating a few scampi, as felt bad my partner hadn't eaten and the rest of the meal was below standard! Had to query the bill as was also charged for a pint of coke! Will never go back again nor would we recommend anyone to go there! Supposed to be a table of 8 booked in as we left...... only hope that no-one wants a steak!!

Might be a bit biased as this is my local, but I see the people flocking in to eat award winning food. This is a proper family run pub with a great friendly atmosphere. Well kept ale, home made food. Just what you need.

I found this pub on the internet as we needed somewhere for 8 adults, one child and a dog to eat. We booked in advance. The pub looks lovely outside from the front, with its thatched roof and beams. There's a little beer garden at the back but when we were there you wouldn't have wanted to sit there unless you were a smoker. We had drinks at the bar and took them to our table. Our orders were taken quickly but then it was a different story. Each main course was brought out one at a time, and one of our party was left without his meal for quite a while after the rest of us had been given ours. One order was incorrect and was sent back to be changed. My husband had asked for a medium steak but it was overcooked so he sent that back - even when it came back it wasn't much better. I had the pork shank, but it was very fatty on the outside and the meat itself was quite dry. The portions were all a good size, though. Some of us had desserts, which were generally better. I had a cappucino instead but it was more like a cup of hot milk, whereas my cousin had coffee that he said he could stand his spoon up in!We wouldn't go back.

Popped in without booking on a Saturday night... Had to wait a few minutes for a table but not long.. Staff were friendly and accommodating. Decent pub food.. Partner had lamb shank and I opted for fish and chips .... Not gastro pub but not the price either... Good quality food for a very fair price. 2 main meals and 2 drinks came to £21 ! A place to go if you want feeding and a drink. Note they stop serving food at 9 though.

Late Saturday afternoon, we were looking for a decent beer and some good down to earth pub grub. What we found easily met our expectations. Friendly Staff welcoming and hospitable despite the fact that they were just 'recovering' from the aftermath of a large 93rd Birthday Party. A nice pint of Ruddles on draft a menu with good choice all set the visit on the right path. Two Prawn Cocktails, an excellent Beef Lasagne, a Sirloin and all the trappings all hit the spot.Just a need to get the steak cooking right as medium rare came more than 'well done'. All in all however very enjoyable, we recommend a visit.

Homely feel, good selection of beers and sky sports. Food plentiful and a wide variety - typical pub food. I noticed that it was the Marston's 2015 Pub of the Year which it advertises very well. Great for a pit stop, an evening with friends or wanting to watch that match.Decor needs updating.

We had just travelled some distance and needed a quick bite to eat so stopped at the Shambles as it said 'Pub of the Year' outside. We ordered our food and drinks, my partner was asked to wait while they checked they had enough of the food he wanted, they soon returned and said that was fine. After 30 minutes I asked how long the food would be, they again checked and said they are just starting it now and it would be about 5-10 mins. After 5-10 mins a woman came over and said they had run out of the food my partner had requested and asked if he could choose something else, which he did, (even though they were suppose to of starting cooking it and it was meant to be available) The woman also said you were told there was a delay...which we were not!! Well the meals came, we both had the Seafood platter which was preprepared battered fish bits, (one bit was nice the rest disappointing) overdone chips, salad garnish, peas and tartar sauce. There was a lot of it but it wasn't appetising! The meal came nearly an hour after we ordered it! We were offered a complimentary drink as we had to wait so long. The meal we had to reorder was cheaper than the original, as we weren't offered the difference I had to go and ask for the money as the meal was already paid for...not good service!

We'd heard that this pub did good food and had won awards so decided to visit for a Friday lunch. The décor and atmosphere were nice so we looked forward to enjoying a good meal. We were served by friendly helpful staff, and had a good G&T! We chose the battered cod and chips, however we were very disappointed in the dish that was presented to us. The fish was obviously pre frozen in batter, (the sort that is made by a famous company and often oven cooked), not freshly battered and deep fried. The batter was certainly not home made, which we had expected. The chips were good, on the other hand, and did appear to be home made. Small (and somewhat pointless) salad garnish, and average mushy peas made for an average overall meal. Ok, but not in a rush to return

Six of us had a "just what we wanted" light lunch at this small, characterful cafe, tucked into one of Market Harborough's historic "yards". Two had the excellent tomato and basil soup, served with a ciabatta roll; two had a delicious ciabatta roll (one gluten free) with cream cheese, figs with a touch of honey and pistachio nuts; one had a bacon-filled ciabatta roll and one had a fruit scone. We all enjoyed our lunch, and the two staff were very helpful. We thought we had made a very good choice out of the numerous options in the town and would definitely go again.

Called in today for our first visit. Received a warm welcome from staff members and were able to be seated as although it was busy lots of people had chosen to sit outdoors. Chose a carvery and we weren't disappointed, choice of 3 meats all cooked beautifully, nice choice of fresh vegetables. Thoroughly enjoyed the meal and you weren't bombarded by staff as soon as you started eating asking if it was alright. We were approached but had at least had a chance to have eaten some of the meal! Will definitely be returning here again.

We used to love this pub. It was cosy, friendly with amazing food. We didn’t realise that it was under new management until we called in for lunch today. It wasn’t busy but the service was chaotic. There were Christmas menus on the table. The guy serving us said they were serving the normal lunch menu too but menus hadn’t been printed yet. We were advised to Google the menu. The guy himself couldn’t find the menu on his phone and neither could my husband. When I did eventually find the online menu it wasn’t the lovely imaginative menu that used to be available. It was average pub grub. We decided on fish and chips but when we ordered we were told that they had no fish. All a bit of a disaster really. We had our drinks which were nice. The pub also had nice table decorations and balloon arches. We would rather have good food than balloon displays though. Sadly after eight years, we will not return.

Many of my friends have raved about this restaurant and we had never been. So after realising it was closing, we just had to book. It was not what we expected - bright lights and bare tables. Not our thing. The arrival greeting was ok but not special and no explanation or interest in us as 1st timers. The food was good and very tasty but it was expected at the price. The wine choice was a different matter. We order one red and one white, not cheap. The white wine arrived by a very young waiter who poured the wine with no option to taste and it was NOT cold. Unbelievable! When asked why it was not cold he said there was ice in the ice bucket. Not a good start to the meal, The waitress leaned over me every time to serve my friend and they didn’t offer new cutlery for each course. Maybe they have lost interest now it’s closing, very sad as we had heard such excellent reviews.
