Great food and service. They catered for a party of 10 for a Sunday dinner. Food was pre-ordered and we didn’t have to wait long for the food to arrive. All good quality, good portions and well priced. Staff were amazing, especially as one of us had some dietary requirements and they dealt with this no problem, which made her day - thanks to Brett for sorting this out. Puddings were also lovely. Would recommend and come back again

Staying at a nearby cottage and after a 3 hour drive to get here, we visited The Shakespeare Inn for a well-earned drink and food. 3 cask ales on offer. The food was of the highest quality, generous portions, and well priced. Staff were very polite & and friendly, especially to our dog, Dexter. This is a must revisit location.

I visited the Shakespeare in July as part of our annual Woodbridge to Water Rat Pub Crawl, and viewed a Menu whilst there. It looked completely up my street so decided to book a table in August for my partner and I. I had heard nothing but great reviews of The Shakespeare and was looking forward to it immensely. The Menu had a large choice, Grills, Sizzling Dishes, Curries, Burgers and several other mains. I chose the Beef Chinese Curry and asked for it to be extra spicy, my partner chose the Chicken Sizzler, (Stir Fried Chicken and Veg on a hot platter). We chose to sit outside in the evening sun and enjoy our drinks, i had a very decent pint of Cobra, the evening was going very well. We could hear progress on our food through the open kitchen door which made us even more excited. We heard "Extra Hot Beef Curry, 4 minutes", which gave my partner just enough time to refresh our drinks, or so we thought..... 15-20 minutes later our food arrived, the Sizzling dish had long since ceased sizzling, in fact it was hard to see anything that could ever have sizzled as it was just an enormous plate of thick chips on top of a few chunks of chicken and veg. My curry sauce had formed a thick skin across itself, also covered in a mountain of thick chips it looked awful. But i dug in, the sauce was tasteless, it literally could have been gravy that had congealed in a pan, the Beef looked and tasted like casserole steak, not frying steak that you would associate with a Asian dish. I left about 85% of my meal, my partner ate almost half of hers, she said she thought it was very bland. We both left unimpressed, and quite hungry. Not sure if it was just a bad night, as i have only ever heard good things about the Shakespeare and everyone i have spoken to since our meal has been shocked, but our experience was very poor. One thing that may appeal to those looking for a quiet evening, the Shakespeare WiFi does not work at all, so it could form an escape from social media or work e-mails!

Visited on a very busy Thursday night. A bit of a wait for our food but the staff were working their socks off and very apologetic for the delay. I ordered the king prawn sizzler having tried the beef, chicken and duck on previous visits and it didn’t disappoint. My husband just loves the haddock and chips which now has been changed to cod but still as good. Too full every visit for desert.

The Shakespeare Inn is a traditional English pub offering a bed and breakfast service. Upon arrival we found the staff to be friendly and welcoming. Checking in was an easy process, after which we were shown to our rooms. The access to the rooms from the bar are via an external steep flight of stairs. This is not suitable for wheelchair access or for people with mobility problems. Our rooms were simply furnished with two single beds, two chairs, a small table, and a wardrobe. Tea and coffee facilities were also available. An en-suite shower and toilet completed the layout. A couple of points to note here. A TV is provided but the tv signal is so poor that it becomes un-watchable. The Shakespeare Inn also offers free Wi-Fi, however we we’re unable to connect to this having tried on several occasions. A real negative for me I’m sorry to say. Now a word of warning: The rooms have a wooden floor which has been very highly polished , and partially covered with rugs. However, between the beds the floor is extremely slippery. So much so that it could easily lead to a fall. I speak from experience. The Shakespeare Inn offers bed and breakfast. A point to note here is that during weekdays, it is only a continental breakfast, which can be delivered to your room. We found the continental breakfast to be very good value. At weekends, a full English breakfast is available. This is also good value. Should you wish to dine here in the evening, dinner is also available. The dinner menu consists of fairly standard fare but is enjoyable non the less. Vegetarian and gluten-free free dishes are also available. Would I stay at the Shakespeare Inn again? I would have to say no to this on the basis of the very poor tv reception and extremely poor Wi-Fi. Would I recommend this B&B to others? Yes, but I would have to make them aware of the issues with the TV and Wi-Fi, and the slippery floor.

Booked for husbands birthday, we were sat on table right next to bar which meant we were disturbed every time a member of staff went past to serve at the bar….Noisy Locals were right next to our table, felt like we had an audience while eating food. Staff were also too busy socialising with the locals and not interested in looking after customers wanting food. We asked for a starter that actually came out with main meals, food was cold and had been standing around, we have visited on several occasions and have always enjoyed our meals… we definitely will not be returning! Disappointing!

I had a chicken sizzler which came with a huge portion of rice and chips, my son had a chicken curry also with rice and chips, we asked for a smaller portion for him, but still the portion was huge… He was very happy! Food was beautifully cooked and very filling. Very relaxed and homely pub, we were treated very well by the lovely and attentive bar staff, bringing us drinks and checking all was ok with our food. I initially had a pint of ale that smelt off. Second was ok. I ordered a chicken Madras which you could choose with rice or chips or combination of both. I just don't know how the kitchen had arrived at this plate of food. It was watery and flavourless, swimming in watery liquid, lacking any seasoning. I can only imagine it had been frozen and then reheated. To be as kind as possible to the (chef?), perhaps buy some ready made kits at the supermarket, rice and diced meat and you couldn't go too far wrong.

I had chinese chicken curry which was fundamentally pleasant, but spoilt by the chicken having been precooked, cut up and added in. It very obviously was not freshly cooked and not pleasant tasting at all. There was also a single piece of pineapple in it as well albeit very well cooked. That said it was not an unpleasant meal by any stretch of the imagination once I d decided not to eat the chicken. The chips and rice were both well cooked. The curry did contain plenty of the chicken. Not enough to put me off going again... there was plenty of choice on the menu. But for £13 (iirc) I expected better.

After a further 15 mins the waitress returned to tell us our order couldn’t be filled and what would we like instead. We re-ordered mains but our starter remained the same. After a further 20 mins we asked where our starter was, we were told then that the kitchen was backed up! At 8.40 our starter arrived. Nachos with cheese on a sharing plate. Unfortunately they had dolloped 2 large helpings of dry salsa, 2 scorched helpings of guacamole and 2 huge lumps of sour cream on the top. It looked like sick and as one of our part dislikes sour cream, one doesn’t like the spice in the salsa and one doesn’t like guacamole, this mess presented to us was wholly unacceptable. We returned it the kitchen, cancelled our mains and left! An awful experience, never to be repeated. If they were struggling why did they take our late Booking?

We had a family meal on a Saturday evening. The staff were busy but very polite and as efficient as they could be with all the people coming in together. Two of our party had the steak and ale pie which looked very appetising but unfortunately was so peppery they had to leave the meat filling. The spaghetti bolognaise was also too hot/ peppery for the granddaughter . I was lucky I chose the salmon which was beautiful with the lemon and dill sauce. We are not naturally complainers so we left the busy staff to get on with their work however I would suggest that management look into the pepper incident. Our friends had booked a table for us - it was in the old part of the restaurant - the tables were very close together, no space really to walk inbetween and chairs uncomfortable and wobbly! The décor is old to match the pub but very basic. the service was very efficient but not very friendly, the staff seemed to be too busy to chat and focused on what they had to do. The starters were all lovely, good choice for vegetarians and served quickly. I ordered the Veggie Sizzler with black bean sauce, so looking forward to it, but when it came it was so black with the sauce I couldn't tell what vegetables were in the dish - it consisted of lots of sliced onions peppers and mushrooms, so much sauce that I couldn't taste anything else so disappointed - the rest of the mains were good, but there was so many chips everyone left some, what a waste of food - The final thing is that after paying the bill we sat at the table just chatting for a few minutes and the served came and collected all the glassed without a word, so making us feel as if they wanted us out quick. Such a shame

On a positive note the Shakespeare has a loyal local following. On the less positive side it has been slipping over some time. On our visit a few days ago service was lackadaisical and food quality anged from adequate to downright poor. We chose from the Specials Board which should have meant good quality - not so. The problem the Shakespeare has is the range of other eateries along the river between Coalport and Ironbridge many of which have developed good reputations. The Shakespeare has for a long time aimed at basic pub grub of reasonable quality and good portions. The portion sizes remain good but on our night not good.

The chips were not the same and the waitress said they had run put so had to run to the shop to get some French fries but they burnt them. The pie pastry was black and couldn't cut it and the lamb shank was so tough as to opposed to falling off the bone The veg awful. We all left most of it and was charged £80. What a disappointment we decided not to get desert just in case we will never go back. This was the first time I'd been out in months as I find it difficult getting around. Last night of a holiday, so since it was the only pub around we hadn't visited, seemed like a good idea. It turned out to be an exceptional idea. Madam ordered the salmon, because she is quite cultured, but the duty plebian opted for gammon and chips, one of my absolute favourites. Ordered drinks form the bar but food from a waitress who, despite being worked off her poor little feet, remained unfailingly cheerful. You know that old ploy where they give you a slightly smaller plate, and the portions look huge? Not here, the plates were large enough to land a Harrier on, and full, full, full. A gammon steak about three quarters of an inch thick, loads of chips, two fried eggs, pineapple, grilled tomatoes, peas, carrots, cauliflower and green beans. I like to think of myself as something of a trencherman, as opposed to a gourmand, but I had to leave some. I can tell you here and now, they do not employ a cook, this man is a chef, and a very good one too. Evidence? Thursday night and the place was choc-a-block! Nice pint of Hobson's, to boot. ALL the staff very friendly, full of smiles and jokes, and a great night out. Just one problem - managing the 20 yards from door to car whilst doing a Weeble impression. Thoroughly recommended. We were asked on various occassions if we required any room top ups of tea/coffee or biscuits. The staff were friendly and polite and the food plentiful and enjoyable. Both grandsons had chicken nuggets and commented that they tasted of 'real' chicken pieces. Breakfast each morning, delicious and plenty of it. Came for a meal with two friends this evening and was thoroughly disappointed. The servers were friendly and attentive, but the food was really poor. The starters were passable; my quesadilla was quite burnt and I had to ask for the salsa and guacamole that had been forgotten. But the main courses were terrible. I had the ratatouille stuffed peppers; which I'm pretty sure was out of a jar. Completely flavourless mush. My husband had the enchilada which he requested without onions or mushrooms; when it came to table they confirmed it was without but he ended up picking out lots of onions. If he'd had an allergy that could have been very serious. As well as that, it was also flavourless. The chicken was unseasoned and dry. And finally, my friend ordered the 14oz rib eye medium rare. It came well-done and there was no rib bone so we weren't sure what cut it was. My friend asked me not to make a fuss and ate it, but was quite disappointed. At the end of our meal, with plates still full I complained. The waiter went away and then came back to argue with us that there were no onions in the enchilada; at which point my husband showed him the pile of onions he'd picked out. But that was all he had to say for our complaints. We were still charged the full price for our meal (£77!) which I didn't realise until after my friend had paid otherwise I would have kicked up quite a fuss. There was no apology for our disappointing meals that were sent back mostly uneaten. I certainly will not return to the Shakespeare Inn and would urge others to try some of the other eateries in Ironbridge before enduring a meal here.

Portion sizes are nice and big for what you pay. Average pub grub! Visited on a Saturday night so was pretty busy.

Visited for a friends birthday and to be honest the portion size was huge to the point of being off putting. Did not realise there was an option for smaller portions as we seemed to leave more than we ate. The area we were sat in could of been cleaner as the waiting on staff member slipped on chips that had been spilt on the floor. Food was hot and tasty. If you have a huge appetite then all good, but would prefer the option for smaller portions to be advertised better.

Been coming here since it was turned into a restaurant many years ago. Just had a meal for our 25th anniversary and it did not disappoint. Wife had a ribeye and i had the fiery tortilla, both were first class. This place has never let me down, always great food and service...Cheers.

I have visited The Shakespeare multiple times over the last few years and I've also had a good experience. Very good choice on the menu - the sizzlers are my favourite! Staff are always nice and friendly. I would recommend booking in advance as it is usually quite busy.

Went here with family but the disappointment started from the off really As we had to wait at least 45 minutes for the food to arrive and then when it came two of the tagliatelle dishes were dried up and the steak was cooked in three different ways, how the chef achieve this is beyond me, one end was rare, the middle was medium and the other end was well done. I asked for it medium which meant I only ate the middle.

Stayed at the Shakespeare Inn for the weekend. Very friendly staff, excellent food in the evening, several vegetarian options. Breakfast also very good, several choices. Rooms have own entrance at the back of the pub. Excellent location for exploring the area and close to several Ironbridge Gorge attractions. Highly recommended.

We were a party of 8 ladies and were there for a birthday meal. My friends weren't particularly impressed with the lack of customer service when they went to get there drinks as the rest of us were sat in the bar. I think there was a huff when asking for soda and no smiles. We had menus shoved at us and asked if we wouldn't mind deciding what we want. 2 mins later she came back as said sorry to rush you but I have a party of 10 in in 10 mins so need to get your order in now. We decided to go to the table and order and it felt very rushed and abrupt. We all had currys or sizzlers which are always worth it as they taste fabulous. I was determined to finish it and I did. You can pick your meat or just veg with a choice of sauce and then rice or chips or half and half. I always ask for extra chillies too but this one wasn't as hot as it has been in the past. I have since read they were a chef down last week but that is no reason to rush people. Explain the situation and you may find people are far more understanding. Everyone paid towards my meal and two ladies went to pay on their cards. They came back rather wound up by the same lady as they gave her the cash and asked her to check it and they'd pay the difference on their cards she just shoved it in the till and went to take payment from their cards. We are all in customer service and some are managers and we pride ourselves on our customer service so nothing winds us up more seeing someone who seems to not want to be there and have an air of rudeness to their tone. The food will always get me to come back as I've never had a bad meal but I hope the service improves somewhat

Called in here for food on a recent visit to Telford and Ironbridge. the food was very good but we had to wait half an hour for it ! soft drinks are very expensive but the food was mid range priced. The woman who appeared to be the landlady was miserable and only seemed to want to be friendly with locals, not interlopers like us !

Our good friend recommended this restaurant, i did know the place, but it was probably about 20 years ago since i was last in here, and it didn't do food then.I was amazed at how much bigger it was inside, and i immediately liked it, there was a nice atmosphere, i was served to our drinks by a lovely cheery young lady (another big plus after one of our lunchtime visits to a pub not very far away from this little gem ) amazing the difference a smile can make? and as this was my Wife's birthday (24th) i really did want it to be a nice visit. Our table was booked for 6 pm, and we were there quite early, but no problem whatsoever, we sat at our table and another team member came and took our food orders, (a very pleasant and courteous young guy) and in no time at all really, we were served our thoroughly delicious and varied piping hot meals,It's been years since i tasted chips like these chunky beauties? i felt that the Chef here has a passion for the food they create? all three of us left here feeling very replete, and all for a very modest cost, we look forward to visiting here again very soon, so sad they do not do lunchtime food apart from weekends! .

I have been to the Shakespeare on a number of occasions in the past and have thoroughly enjoyed the overall experience, however tonight after me and friends visited for a meal out I will not be returning. Absolutely appalling service from start to end- not being shown to our table, asking to order, a 45 minute wait on food, asking for desert menus as we weren't offered and having to constantly chase the waiting staff for assistance. The 45 minute wait was not apologised for until we left and we were told "it was an electrical problem in the kitchen." Had this been communicated during our wait we would have fully understood and enjoyed more drinks in the mean time, however, we were not told until we had asked for ourselves and weren't offered any more drinks during our wait. After not being offered the desert menu and asking for it ourselves, the young male waiter was very rude and abrupt in saying "you didn't ask before" before getting the menu and placing it on our table without apology yet again. We decided against deserts after 10 more minutes of being ignored and when approaching the bar to ask for the bill expressed how disappointed we were. We received a discount and a half hearted apology but came away feeling as if we had wasted an evening. We would have happily paid in full, stayed longer and ordered deserts if a sincere and early apology was given and service was attentive. I feel as though the entire evening could have been enjoyable if only the staff were trained in basic customer service skills and were able to communicate effectively with their tables. We were not the only table complaining this evening and therefore I know our evening was not the only one ruined. I have never complained in full as I am here but I feel as though the reputation of a very good pub/restaurant will rapidly go down hill if management and owners are not aware that their front of house staff frankly are uninterested and rude.

Very large portions that defeated even my son. Very tasty, good quality food. However as their kitchen is tiny (I quote member of staff here) they can only take orders quite slowly, so be prepared to wait for your meal.

I had 2 parties to go to. one at craven arms, the other the Shakespeare. first party, we ate later than planned. so when I arrived at the Shakespeare I asked if I could cancel my meal as I wasn't hungry, she went to kitchen, came back and said it was fine, I ordered a pate as I could manage that . when I came to pay my bill. i was told I had to pay for my original meal as it had been prepared! if I was told that first I would have asked for it to be bagged up and took it home.why was I told it was ok when I first arrived? who wants to pay for a meal they don't receive? I am local and have been a few times but wont be returning.

Went here for lunch on a beautiful sunny day so sat out in the Beer garden which is a fantastic little sun trap. My partner and I both tried different sizzler plates and both were excellent. There was a huge menu choice so picking was a bit of a problem as there was lots I wanted to try so am going to have to return multiple times now to give everything a try!

Huge choice on the menu - all six in the group ordered something different (from enchiladas, fish and chips, to a seafood pasta dish).Meals are huge - so unless you have a big appetite don't worry about starters. Nice atmosphere. Friendly staff.Food was a little slow arriving but this was due to it being freshly prepared.

We stayed overnight as we were attending a wedding locally. The rooms are lovely, contemporary furnishing, splotlessly clean and with everything you could need. We were a little concerned about noise from the pub, but that wasn't a problem. Our only criticism would be that a little more lighting could be provided to reach the rooms at the back when you are returning late after the pub has closed. The breakfast the next morning was lovely, as were all the staff. We also had a lunchtime meal which was excellent with very large portions. Overall couldn't fault the place. Excellent standards and excellent value for money. We would certainly return again when in the area.

Popped in here tonight for a quick pint and some food. Curry night. Long story cut short.... Her masalla was like water and the bread harder than granite. My naga chilli... Bread was the same and the chicken even harder than granite. Lesson learned eventually.... Had a refund and will never eat there again. Dreadful to say the least

Googled for a local restaurant whilst we were in Telford and this came up. Had good reviews so we tried it yesterday. Great value and lovely food. We had the chicken curry and sausage & mash. Both meals were served hot and they were very filling with very good portions. Two lads were working - both polite and professional. Highly recommended 👏🏻

Food and service were good, I just wanted to bring to your attention that your chicken tikka masala on your main menu and your daily promotion leaflet show different spice ratings the main menu said it had 1 spice level but the promo leaflet labelled it a 2 spice level, I found this to be very misleading and put me off ordering it as i couldnt make an accurate call on the spice level of the dish, it showed the same calories so I assume it's the same dish. Thank you

We stayed at the hotel and decided to have our evening meal there too. The staff were really polite and helpful. The food was exceptional. We had a three course meal and the food was beautiful. Thanks to all the chef team for beautifully displayed food which tasted even better.
