Found the pub and facilities a little battle weary, popular pub and a great location but it just seemed like it needed some TLC

Great Fish and Chips at a good price in a traditional Pub style environment. For those of us not accustomed to “Pubs” it was a delightful experience without anything “uncomfortable.” I would definitely go again.

Chris and Jody are great. Really great playlist. Always stop here when waiting on a train.

A friendly pub in Birmingham city center

If you want to visit an establishment with welcoming knowledgeable staff and a great atmosphere do not visit this place. However if you fancy drinks with friends and being constantly harassed by beggars then this is the place for you. Could do with a complete overhaul. In particular the ridiculous ladies and men's toilets which are horrendously unlean with flies everywhere. Unfortunately this is the worse pub in the Nicholson's group. Awful. Will never revisit and would never recommend. Do not order the food unless you like bland frozen fare akin to anything from Iceland! There is better within a two minute walk.

Saw the club sandwiches on their Instagram and thought I must try it. Must say it was as good as the picture, apart from the picture had chutney and this one didn't. The manager was more than happy to get it for me.

As a visitor to Birmingham I had no idea where to go to watch the rugby today and happened to see this place had it on. Really happy with the decision to go in. Good selection of beers and the food was amazing. Will be back next time I'm in the area.

Popular city centre pub very close to New street train station. Drinks prices quite expensive when compared to other nearby bars and pubs.

Typical English bar, variety of beers and is just outside the central train station.

Can get really busy which is both good and bad but that depends on your preference. Still managed to be served in under 2 mins when get to bar despite how busy it was. Cask was reasonable selection. Cask quality was on form. Handy for station if you're a little early or the train is delayed.

The Shakespeare is the closest pub to New Street station, it offers decent pub grub and a reasonable range of ales and lagers, it's compact and bijoux with a small roped off area out front for smokers

Absolutely loved this place, very clean family friendly bar with great food and very good pints. Staff very friendly and accommodating. Toilets spotless, really well ran pub with nice old school English pub vibes. Will be back.

Tasty sandwiches and burgers but bad service. The employees seem to have nothing to do since the menu is digital, as well as the payment, but they could, at least, say something when a costumer enters the bar.

The two of us were there early evening, last Friday, for food and drink. It's a lovely old pub and the members of staff are efficient and really friendly. Our food was delicious - I had haddock and chips and it was very fresh tasting. I would definitely recommend this pub.

Entramos en el Shakespeare para una noche en Birmingham y déjame decir ... este es el mejor pub a poca distancia de la nueva estación de la calle. Los porteros ofrecen una cálida, si no emocionante bienvenida y una sonrisa vigorizante. Entras a un acogedor pub británico clásico, el barman Hugo, nos recibió con una sonrisa ligeramente coqueta y sirvió el Guinness más perfecto a este lado del mar irlandés. Disfrutamos mucho de nuestra visita y continuaremos visitando regularmente.

Love the Atmosphere when we visited the Shakespeare on a recent trip to Birmingham. Food was good, came out quickly & a great pint of Guinness. Many thanks to Jodie & Izzy who were both very bubbly & looked after us well. We will be back..

Lovely pub right next to grand central with a great atmosphere and very friendly staff. Izzy and the team made it a really enjoyable visit. Definitely worth checking out!

Go in here before the villa games and the service is outstanding. Specifically jodie always goes above and beyond when its particulary busy. Would recomend.

Handy pub less than a minute from Grand Central Stephensons Place exit. Decent pint and friendly bar staff (shout out to Jodie and her welcoming smile). Always pop in for a pint when I'm in town.

I've been here a few times and it's always a lovely experience. I have had exceptional service from Izzy, Mason and Jody from here. The food is also wonderful here and I would 100% recommend this place to anyone.

Bar staff always attentive to customers needs, have been coming here for a while and get continued good service from staff, which makes me want to return every time as provides a good social experience after work to relax,and the beer is well kept. A very atmospheric pub in the middle of the city very close to new street station it's a warm inviting pub and can get busy on the evening- the staff work hard and are courteous and a credit so if you need a place to meet greet give it a go 👍

This is a zero reflection on the pub, staff,food etc as we never got past the front door. I arrived yesterday at 1pm with a friend and between us we had 5 kids for lunch. We had travelled to Birmingham for the christmas market and wanted to eat in a typical English pub. Unfortunately when my friend opened the front door at 1pm we were roared at to get out by a "woman" screaming that we weren't welcome with kids she was a complete mess at 1pm and let this bar down badly as the kids were to afraid to walk past her so we had to turn and leave. Again it was 1pm that "woman" shouldn't of been served in my opinion she was very drunk and caused more noise than the 5 well behaved kids would have. We were lucky we walked straight up the hill to another food bar were we were welcomed and fed you guys lost 7 customers yesterday for the sake of the drunken mess at your front table.

I like proper hand pulled real ale. The choice was rather disappointing on last visit. Only three options, porter aside, and one of those (Nicholson's) was unavailable. I like the atmosphere in the Shaespeare nd the staff are always very helpful. The food choice was also a bit limited. I had a sirloin sandwich which was OK but not stunning. My colleague had steak pie with veg (carrots), which again was OK. He didn't eat it all and I tried some, which I didn't much like (although I have had it in the past). So a mixed visit. THe beer I had was quite good (never had it before) but, as I said, there was not a great choice. The food satisfactory but rather unimaginative. S taff excellent.

We were back doing the Nicholsons ale trail! Love it in here, especially for Hugo, always friendly and really knows his stuff. Always a top notch Guinness! Very busy this time of year but Hugo still made us feel special - thank you!

I stopped here for lunch. It wasn’t crowded when I got there but was when I left. I had the steak and ale pie. It was pretty good and the feeling inside the place was old which I liked.

Have popped in here for a lunch many times, but this time, the pie was a bit dry and I was disappointed. It’s usually okay.

Este es un pub concurrido en el centro de la ciudad. Estábamos allí en un almuerzo entre semana. Parecía haber una buena mezcla de asiduos, turistas y trabajadores en su descanso. Hay una amplia gama de cervezas - el Doom Bar estaba allí. Titanic Plum Porter está en camino. Ojalá esto hubiera estado disponible en nuestra visita. En su interior hay un pub británico “tradicional”, con muchos asientos, mucha madera oscura y una barra larga. Nos sentamos afuera, tomamos un par de pintas y vimos el mundo pasar. Es un gran lugar para ver a la gente. Si estás buscando una buena pinta en el centro de Birmingham este es el pub para ti.

We stopped in to The Shakespeare pub around lunch time. The place was buzzing with people enjoying their pints and meals. A walk around the place reveals that they have a room available to be reserved for groups and a backyard garden as well.

I am 66 years of age and was with a retired party of 4. My bag was searched in which I had a small bottle of juice. I was told that if I wanted to enter the pub, I would have to leave the bottle of juice on the floor by the pub door. We walked away. Crazy was to treat elderly people. I would avoid this pub.

My family came after a lovely day out, we were talking to the bar staff having a laugh on us getting more drinks we were told that we wouldn't be served as the jumped up child didn't like something we had said. This place is definitely not friendly as the barman also slagged us off for being from a different town, obviously wanted to.leave her shift early!!!

Four excellent and well kept real ales. Looked after all night by two great bar persons, Jodie and chris. Close to the station and well worth a trip. Didn't eat but the food looked great.

Was in Birmingham, shopping. Needed lunch, so popped into the Shakespeare, having passed on my way from train station. Really enjoyed the food and drink. Friendly staff. Will definitely visit again when next in Birmingham.

Recently visited "The Shakespeare" and had an amazing chicken burger with a perfectly poured Guinness pint by Riya! Loved the warm and hospitable environment. Definitely recommend it! Great spot to unwind after a long commute.

Popped in whilst out shopping, needed up having a fantastic lunch! The steak and ale pie was up there with the best I’ve had and my partners fish looked great too!
