The See Ho in Gravesham

My wife and I just fancied somewhere different and if you want a pub that you will never accidentally stumble across this is it. We dropped in as i remember coming here a very long time ago as a teenager and it is a really pleasant surprise. The staff could not have been friendlier or more cheerful despite working very hard and the pub itself has had a facelift and is very smart and well turned out. It was wet when we arrived but there is some great outside space if you fancy it in the Summer. Ample car parking out front and a really friendly atmosphere. The food was excellent. I had Whitebait and my wife really enjoyed the Arancini balls. For mains I would recommend the Moroccan Lamb from the specials board and the Salmon with noodles looked and tasted excellent. Decent selection of lager and Dry Rose was first class. Bill was £76 for 2 including 2 rounds of drinks so pretty much par for the course and it was a very nice couple of hours spent. My only small gripe would be the gents toilets are a little tired. They need a lick of paint, a decent mirror and a little touch of panache but that is only a minor issue. Overall we will certainly come again. There is ample on the menu to drag us back and I'm looking forward to it.

Long (over an hour) wait for lunch although we had preordered. All but one waitress very aggressive and rude. Blaming us for their mistakes. When we ordered lunch special! When it came to the bill apparently they tried to charge everyone for non special meal I was given a large pie instead of a small one ??????? So they wanted to charge more. Last time there for us.

Lovely restaurant, lovely staff, great food. interesting menu with standard items and some not often found dishes. Lambs liver being one and Trolagostal a sausage dish. Service a bit on the slow side but we were in no rush so no real concern. not expensive good sized portions.

We stumbled across The See Ho after a walk around Shorne Wood. Accommodating on a Sunday without a booking, the food was good, well portioned and reasonably priced. Salt & Pepper Squid [Special] for Starters; followed by Hog Roast [Special] for Mains; with an Eton Mess to finish. Good food and felt suitably round for the journey home. Good-sized car park and outdoor area too for a sunny day - and only 5 minutes from Shorne Park.

Attended with a group of 10. Staff very friendly and attentive. Large dining area separate from the main bar. 3 courses were good-sized portions. Only 1 item on the menu was not available. Wide variety of dishes, the bar area is Dog friendly. Lots of free parking. Will return and highly recommend it to family and friends. Very clean and modern looking . The venue also offers tribute nights throughout the year

We were celebrating our friend's retirement with an afternoon tea at the See Ho today. I would thoroughly recommend a visit, as their Afternoon Tea included freshly made scones, plentiful tea sandwiches and cakes beautifully presented on several three-tiered trays and china plates. There were a large group of us and the price was very reasonable per head. The staff were always very polite, helpful and attentive. Definitely recommend a visit.to the See Ho.

Amazing. Staff were the best. . My mother is disabled and they were very accommodating to her needs. Food was perfect. Lovely roast dinners and my sons burger looked amazing and in his 14 years year old words.. Dad, that was proper banging... Great service from the ladies. Never to much they do to assist. Even to the point of ordering meals. Allowed my 80 year old mum to have a child portion.. thats above and beyond service in my eyes. Will def be back.

Super little place. Arrived as it started raining. Had planned to sit in garden as we have a dog. Left dog in car but asked if we could bring him in. “Of course you can but you will have to sit in the bar area”. No problem. It was bright and airy with friendly staff and patrons. We both had a pie mmmm Absolutely lovely. Served with mash and seasonal veg which was not overcooked and plenty of gravy. Also had a side of chips (just in case) but really didn’t need them. Only had a few and the were the thick chunky proper ones 😉 Had no room for a pud which was disappointing as the selection was good. Will return soon as we are staying locally in a hotel which sadly has awful food!!!

Lovely friendly staff nice table, good service great food it's a 10 from me , had tempura prawns to start , steak big bits ale pie chips and veg and others had roast Pud lush raspberry and Apple crumble ice cream could do it again but along way from us 😁😁👍

Went here for Mother's Day with my wife and two teen age sons. The service from when you walk in the door to when you leave is welcoming and friendly. Being mothers day it, was very busy as expected but this did not affect the excellent service and the wait for orders to be taken for drinks and/or food. The food was of very good standard. Good size portions, very well cooked and well presented. The value for money is spot on. We have been here several times previously and have never been disappointed. Keep it up guys, you are all doing a grand job

We arranged for my mothers wake to take place after service at nearby crematorium. Good quality food and service. Thankyou to the staff who were excellent. The area cordoned off was ok for about 30 people. You must ask if for larger parties of people.

Came for a birthday meal on a Sunday lunch time, the set menu is extremely reasonably priced. Food was delicious and fresh, staff warm and welcoming. Will definitely be coming back again

Have eaten here twice recently, once with friends on a Saturday lunch and then with children for Sunday lunch the next time. Both times we couldn’t fault the food. Very generous portions too. I had sea bass the first time cooked very well and banoffee cheesecake (amazing homemade!) and then Sunday lunch the following visit, family had a mixture of lamb/chicken roasts we weren’t disappointed! Staff are very friendly and you don’t feel rushed out. All in all we felt it was a bit of a find!

Just started to eat out again and it’s lovely to be back at The See Ho. We went last week with friends for their unlimited Prosecco and dine menu and yesterday as a couple with our dog. Always had a great experience. I go there every year for my birthday too and can’t fault it. The staff are always friendly and welcoming and the menu has a good selection of pub food, tasty and with generous portions. Service is good too. We always enjoy ourselves and highly recommend this pub.

We turned up and the lady was very helpful behind the bar! Food arrived and was absolutely delicious! And we also had a generous portion! I think the chef had stayed longer than he should to do our food, this for me is top service! Keep up for the great work, we’ll definitely be coming back here!

A busy lunchtime so service a little slow. The food (my guests) was superb my Hunter's Chicken was a little dry but very tasty. The deserts were all superb - Bread and Butter Pudding and Traditional Spotted Dick were excellent.

We had the wake for my late father here on 22 January and followed it up with a meal a few days later for two. There is a separated section good for a wake and close to shorne crem. We under estimated the quantities likely to attend but the pub and landlord coped easily with some 70 guests (we expected around 50). there were a couple of buffet style options (pre booked). A saturday afternoon lunch was a much quieter relaxed affair and the bangers and mash a little pricey but very edible choice.

We had a table of 8 for a birthday. This was the first time i had been here. The table was ready and nicely set out, the staff were attentative and the the food all came out together and in good time. The food was out of this world and everyone couldnt praise it enough. Well one See Ho we will defo be seeing you again.

Excellent Sunday menu for £20 per head. Booked late & were seated in the bar area where we started with drinks & dipping bread. For starters we had Onion soup, Liver Pate, Garlic Bread & Chilli Beef, all excellent. We had beef & lamb roasts for the mains, beautifully cooked (ordered the side cauliflower cheese & bacon cabbage - recommended addition). For dessert we had chocolate brownie, fruit crumble, spotted dick & i had lemon sponge (soft glazed sponge like a doughnut), all are recommended. The staff were very friendly & service was prompt, with drinks & extras we paid £27 per head which was fantastic for what we had, i would advise anyone to visit, especially on a Sunday

Well living locally we had been meaning to visit the see ho for some time and wow was we all disappointed!We booked a table and had to pre order our meals the day before which was unusual for a simple roast dinner..well it’s apparent now because the food was all pre cooked the day before!!! The house speciality is bullet proof potatoes and they are not generous with them either thank god because your teeth could handle more than the 2 you were given! The ‘pink’ roast beef was anything but pink or rump it was over cooked and straight from a vacuum pack at Iceland’s. Should I go on...well there was barely a drip of school dinner gravy to accompany or soften the bullet proof potatoes and the children’s roast chicken was an over cooked re-heated rubber breast of chicken that my son nearly choked on ..then again he could barely even chew it! The mediocre starters of pre made prawn cocktail was about the only edible part of the meal and as for deserts they were straight from a packet, the so called ‘browny’ was a microwave chocolate sponge pudding again from Iceland’s!! Nothing was cooked fresh home made or prepared in the kitchen which appeared to be no bigger than a broom cupboard.. but then again all they need or use in the see NO is a microwave! I’m not one for writing reviews but be warned of the poor food they serve and go to a Toby carvery or Harvester instead because they are Michelin star compared to the see Ho!

Recommended to visit by my son and could not fault delicious food or friendly service, definitely go back again.

We organised a birthday party for twelve adults. The whole event was a resounding success. The food was superb and the service was attentive and helpful. We would certainly visit again. It's dog friendly as well.

Turned up today for a table reserved for 1pm. We advised the lady (blonde lady) that some family members would be A little late due to being stuck in traffic. The response we got from the lady we spoke to Was extremely rude. We were told that we had till 10 past 1 for the other family members to turn up or we would lose the table as it was booked out again for 3:45pm. The person we spoke to had a very frosty, very sour attitude towards us. There was no understanding that our situation was completely beyond our control. Our family members turned up by 1:15, but the atmosphere was still unfriendly. We will certainly not be coming back here again after what we experienced today..

The food was delicious and looked appetising. Comfortable furnishings. Lavish look about the place. The singer tribute to Luther Vandross was out of this world. Everyone was up dancing. Superb night and there was parking.

We recently went to this pub which had been hired out for a party. The staff were friendly and very attentive all night. Always clearing up empties and plates left around. The food that they put on for the party was no less then excellent, with a lot left over. If we pass this way again I would definitely go in again.

I had heard good things about the food at this pub. I had to order in advance which is never a good sign. It wasn’t busy and our group was small. All my food was over cooked and the ‘Thai curry’ was a mushy stroganoff. I can only assume the evening cook is different to the lunch cook?Either way, the service was average but the food was poor.

I recently went with my sister in law for lunch. we sat outside in the comfortable seating area as it was a very hot day. Despite their being a large party come in from a funeral, we were served fairly promptly and the food was delicious.

My friend and I are both from London and we used to visit The See Ho a lot before it was taken over by the current owners. The atmosphere has decidedly changed from being a friendly, family orientated establishment to a frosty, unwelcoming pub/bar.The decor is so much better than before, however the staff are cold and rarely smile. When taking our food orders, there is no eye contact and if you ask for any small adaptations to a meal i.e. onions rings instead of chips then it seems to be a massive inconvenience.A few weeks ago I went in to buy a bottle of wine and when I said it was for a dinner party, the lady behind the bar rolled her eyes as if I was being pretentious.Christmas Eve there is not much better - food was cold and had to be returned a couple of times, and we had to bring our own Christmas crackers because there's were only reserved for Christmas Day lunch.The food is hit and miss with the Caesar Salad being my favourite, and sometimes the burgers are well cooked and juicy. However, the lunchtime menu is served slap dash and could be made by anyone.It's a shame because the upgrade could have been really worthwhile and they cannot rely on the Bottomless Prosecco night alone.

Ok food if not great - menu was a bit odd, pub classics with the odd gastro pub standard, service fine, nothing special overal but not expensive either.

Lovely pub very welcoming. Lovely meal. The whole place did smell very strong of fish. Alittle more expensive than most places. But theres no rushing out once you've had your meal so makes it more relaxing

This Pub has been refurbished and although reviews dated 2017 were not complimentary about the food or service .... our experience two years on was excellent. The Staff were friendly, knowledgable and accommodating. My husband and I opted for the £12 a head lunchtime option. We both selected the homemade Red Pepper and Tomato soup which was so good and attractively presented that I forgot to photograph it before devouring it! My main course was a fish pie and mixed vegetables (photograph hopefully to follow). My husband had the lambs liver and substituted the mash for chunky chips. We would definitely recommend popping in to this pub for above average pub fayre. Well done guys we will be back!

First of all I have to say that our waitress was somewhat sombre and not a friendly pub member of staff which is what you would expect. We found the wine pricey and above average compared to other similar pubs. The menu choice was good and indeed we enjoyed our meals but service a bit on the slow side ( and it wasn’t at all busy).Staff didn’t seem very forthcoming on the various saver/ value options that were available.After the meals were served I would have thought it would be standard practice to say” can I get you any sauces or anything?” Not a word from our waitress! Yes you can ask, but part of good service is for it to be offered.Might try it again to see if it improves but not sure?

To all that read this it would appear that a review that I posted in July has been taken off so it proves that this establishment must be really concerned that people read what has been written and do need to improve their service and quality of food and staff training Trip advisor will be informed and I hope they take the appropriate action Very poor restaurant

Having read some rather negative reviews, I was a little apprehensive about trying The See Ho with family. However it was so good on Friday evening, we visited again for lunch in the week. The pies are excellent and ample size with a good selection of fresh vegetables and mash or chips. I had the rump steak which was perfectly cooked. The sharing Camembert starter was very tasty and the Sauté king prawns are delicious. The puddings are good too, I squeezed in the lemon pudding, it was light and fluffy. Eaton Mess full of fresh berries and meringue, yummy. The service was very good, friendly and attentive. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone. It is quite noisy in the evening as there are no carpets or soft furnishings to absorb the noise so earlier in the day is probably best.

Not impressed. Has gone downhill...i Ordered cajun chicken burger. Husband ordered scampi and chips. My chicken was dry and rubbery.... so sent it back. Had to ask for it to be taken off the final bill as they didn't do it automatically. Waitress was not very friendly. Not the hint of a smile when we walked in. Made us feel like we were inconvenienceing her by being there.Costs nothing to smile.Will not go back.

Decided to give this a go for a family Pub Roast.The place the area looked great, very welcoming, clean, bright and airy. We’d pre-booked and had a Dine App Discount Code for 25% off.The staff were polite but seemed like not a lot of set standard A, B, C of service. We were seated but then left for awhile before a staff member returned to take our drinks order. After ordering it did seem like a longtime before the starter plates came which wasn’t a problem but no explanation or ‘we will be with you shortly’ courtesy was given. After the starter we then waited over 40mins for the main dishes and had to ask twice as another table who came in after us got serviced in a very quick time. It seemed we had been forgotten. Still no reason was given for the delay. The food quality was ok but for the standard price before any discount codes is a fraction high for the portion sizes given. Also a hair was found in the gravy of one of our dishes which was raised and attended to quite quickly and professionally. The offer of a free glass of draughty Coca Cola was a little poor as compensation however. As I say quite pricey for the ok food quality, service and portion sizes. It is quite possible we’d gone while they were still finding there feet after some changes but I don’t know if this was the case so can not comment on any reasons or if this was just a one off. We as a family can say we have given it a go but would not have this as a first choice food pick. The 25% Dine App Discount did however soften the experience would was hoping would have been better from the look and location of the pub. I hope this helps future customers and indeed this establish to rectify why this experience came about.

Stopped here off the cuff for a quick lunch. Baguettes were great, the chips are AMAZING! Can’t fault the service either. Nice little place.

We have visited the see ho twice now on the first trip it was a very quiet lunch time and it was spotlessly clean especially the toilets. On the second visit it was very busy and it was still spotlessly clean, the food was delicious I had chicken and ham pie and my wife had the fish pie both were perfectly cooked and the vegetables were fresh and very tasty I had raspberry cheese cake which is the best I’ve ever had all homemade and very reasonable at £12 each for two courses lunch time menu If you like really good food at reasonable prices you must try The see ho and the staff are very friendly and helpful

Had my grandad funeral here in the summer was a lovely buffet and been done out so lovely went with friends last night for a meal food was great staff and very good too

I had fish and chips. It was great apart from the batter on the fish which wasn't very nice. It wasn't very crispy. My Mum's fish pie didn't have a lot of fish in it. It consisted mostly of mash potato. Whitebait starter was very nice. Staff all courteous and polite.

Been here a few times before and didnt rate it very high but fault we would try a roast dinner on a Sunday. Rang up 5 minutes before and they said they had a table, waited about 45 - 1 hour for it to come out and their was only another 2 tables in their. It came out and the chicken was so dry I couldn’t even swallow it, the roast potatoes you couldn’t even cut into they was that hard. Drinks were over priced. STAY AWAY

This is obviously a place for the well healed middle class locals. Not very friendly to outsiders unless eating in the expensive restaurant. Drink prices over the top!

Turned up just before lunch was closed for the day. Wasn't a problem and fitted us straight in. Great service from Laura and the food was some of the best I've had in a pub for a long time. Recommended the pie and the sicilian lemon dessert was amazing. Everything seemed homemade and the surroundings and settings were great. No problem to have my 3 year old seated who loved it as well

We visited the See Ho Thursday lunchtime. First impressions were very favourable. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. We had choice of restaurant or bar. We went into restaurant as it was nice and bright and well decorated. The menu was varied and we selected the special lunchtime 2 courses for £11. The food was excellent and nicely presented. Such a nice clean place to dine. Will return. Need to book as very popular.

Very disappointing experience. Table booked for 12.45 and our food arrived 2pm! Desserts took over 30 mins and one of them hadn’t arrived by 45mins so we cancelled it and left, not leaving a tip. Felt very neglected. Won’t be going back.

Having said that, all staff were lovely.We were a party of 8 adults and 1 child, and there was ample choices for us all. All food is prepared fresh, and were advised there may be a wait. We didn't mind, or notice how long it took. The food was well presented and very tasty, everyone was happy with their food. Thank you

Came upon the restaurant by default. Was very impressed by choices on the menu. I'm sure it could cater for everyone. Home made food was delicious

********* I am posting this on behalf of my Mother ********My Son, his partner, their two young children and I booked Christmas day lunch at the See Ho.What a disappointing experience.My Daughter dropped me off at noon and had intended on having a quick drink with us before leaving. She was made to feel unwelcome even though she had intended purchasing drinks at the bar and not to dine with us. drinks.There was a distinct lack of hospitality when we asked for an additional chair for her to sit with us for just a few minutes to enjoy a quick drink on Christmas day. There was no festive spirit amongst the staff.The meal itself was mediocre and my Son and his partner did not get the dessert they had ordered in advance without having to argue the point several times and beyond reason.The whole experience was very disappointing = and most especially for Christmas Day with my family.

For some years now we have organised a family get-together at a local hostelry but they have recently stopped serving food. Not wishing to stop the traditional meet up we decided to give the See Ho in Shorne a try and we were not disappointed.As there were fourteen in our party we had been asked to pre order from the very ample choice on the menu. There were certainly no complaints as we all thoroughly enjoyed the food, which was perfectly cooked and well presented.I would certainly recommend See Ho. Well done the team.

The restaurant was fully booked but reserved a table in the bar instead. It didn't matter as it was just as nice with plenty of room around the table. Staff were welcoming and friendly. We all had the 2 course option of main and pudding. I ordered the roast beef which was tasty, with a lovely Yorkshire pud and flavorsome veg which I would have happily eaten more of. Everyone's meals came out together and in good time. I chose the trio of desserts which I was told would be selection off the dessert menu which was really delicious and nicely presented. A couple of desserts on the menu were not available so one of our party asked if they had any Christmas pudding instead and they happy accommodated his request which I thought was a nice touch especially as they were fully booked. They obviously have a good chef in the kitchen who can cook a really good roast.

We booked the see ho to host my mums wake and so glad we did . The food that was laid on was lovely , the staff were warm , friendly and welcoming .I would recommend this establishment to anyone looking for a nice relaxed environment x

My family and I visited the See Ho on Christmas Day for a pre-booked lunch. We each paid £75 which enabled us to select various options from a set menu. Whilst the food was adequate, the service and attitude of the staff left a lot to be desired. Initially, there were not enough chairs for our party and when we requested an additional seat, we were met with a patronising, rude and abrupt response from the lady presiding over diners with a clipboard. She counted us twice and refused to accept that there was not sufficient seating. A member of my family who hadn't pre-booked lunch but was solely joining us for a quick drink (she had my son on her lap) was questioned by the lady with the clipboard who also interrogated me as to why she was there when she hadn't pre-booked a place. The icing on the cake was confusion over dessert. Two of us received the wrong option from our pre-selected choices and we were told in no uncertain terms that there was nothing the restaurant could do to rectify the issue despite the fact that we had a record of what we had initially requested. Only after several conversations with staff were the correct desserts brought out.In short, we paid £225 for this meal, exclusive of drinks, and it was one of the worse Christmas lunch experiences that we have ever had. We certainly won't be returning and the owner could do worse than send the entire staff on a customer relations course.Merry Christmas Indeed!
