Amazing breakfast of Poached Eggs and Avo on toast. Eggs were perfect and the coffee was awesome! The service was super friendly and fast also - Highly recommended 👌🏻

We really looked forward to returning to this fantastic bistro. A truly warm welcome awaits. Fully accessable for all wheelchairs. Cooked breakfast the best! Scones just lovely too. Cannot praise the friendly staff highly enough. Planning a weekend trip to get back to this place. Go, you will not be disappointed!

A couple of times a week I get a takeaway scone from The Secret Garden. The scone varieties are imaginative and inspired. There’s always a standard plain or fruit for traditionalists but try Turkish Delight, Lemon & Poppyseed, Coffee & Walnut, Toffee Apple, Pineapple & Coconut … all deliciously freshly baked (with a helpful T for best toasted if it’s day before). Exceptional! Coffee is fabulous too.

I broke the habit of years when I went to this restaurant and didn't look at the reviews first: oh what a mistake that was! I always check out the reviews of restaurants before going, now I'm aware that there's a certain amount of 'reading between the lines'to be done with this. However, one feature that I find to be a massive red flag in this restaurant is the vitriolic and venomous responses that every critical remark gets from the owner. In my experience of venues this attitude will always carry over into the restaurant experience itself. This seems to be the case here going by the many negative experiences that customers seem to be having. The owner 'Kenny'seems to have the strange idea that being openly hostile to his previous customers in front of his future customers will somehow result in more custom. This is not the case however and will only result in customers going elsewhere. There are many other restaurants around the area whose owners don't feel free to openly abuse their customers publicly and I shall be giving my custom to those venues. Sadly when I visited this establishment, I had not been able to view the reviews in advance and so didn't see the warning signs. My experience was the same as the other negative ones listed here. The place had little to no customers (not a good sign). There was dust on every surface, and the customer bathroom was filthy. The salad wilted apart from some fresh leaves on top to hide the soggy ones underneath. The staff looked stressed and depressed (again very bad sign). I did see the owner in action. He spent his time slamming items around in a bad mood and glowering darkly at his few poor customers. I came away with the impression that running a restaurant makes him very unhappy.

Having just been to another cafe about a mile away (The Remedy Cafe) and had really poor service, I left there and found the Secret Garden Cafe. Welcome was fantastic, staff very friendly and service was attentive and fast. Food and coffee was also very tasty. Definitely would recommend this place.

I had a visit with my niece, I had a cappuccino of their so-called fantastic coffee, I could not drink it, it was disgusting. I also had a Coronation Chicken sandwich, which looked lovely, with soft, thick bread, crisps of the best quality, and some coleslaw and salad. I bit into it and nearly choked, all I could taste was English mustard, there was no fresh tangy, fruity taste of Coronation Chicken, just mustard. I pushed it aside, and my niece noticed and said she liked mustard and would take it and give me her tuna and red onion one. I swapped with her, the tuna one was a little better but dry and did not have the creamy mayo, that you expect with a tuna sandwich, it had a vinegary base. We had a fruit scone each, as I had not eaten much of the sandwiches. The scones were, ok not the best I have ever had but ok. However, they came with one pat of butter each and one pack of jam each. I requested some more butter which we were given, but having to ask offended me. We left, soon after eating our scones, paying our over the 26-pound bill, and will not be back sorely disappointed.

A visit while staying at the local Haven caravan site, before heading to the local animal park. We arrived as a group of 2x adults and 2x children (11 & 3) to be greeted warmly by the staff, despite us looking like we'd rolled out of the nearest ditch (dressed for inclement weather rather than shirt and chinos). From start to finish the staff we're attentive and friendly regardless of the early time of day, we we're seated quickly and our order was taken in good time, (Pot of tea and eggs benedict for me, Apple juice and toast for the youngest, a smoothie and waffles for the eldest and a Cappuccino with french toast for she who must be obeyed) All our drinks arrived very quickly and the food took a good amount of time (meaning it was freshly prepared) and was presented beautifully, only beaten by the actual taste. A wonderful place with great staff, food and service. As a restaurant manager myself I would love to hire all of your staff but the 4 hour commute may be a bit of a barrier.

Extremely disappointed with the standard of the takeout breakfasts we received. We were given what I assume to be scrambled eggs instead of fried eggs, it was inedible, tasteless and gooey as if it had been made in a microwave, the potato scone was basically not cooked at all and the bacon is the worst bacon I’ve seen/tasted in my life. The black pudding was really nice and was cooked to perfection. After reading reviews I assumed the food would be really great so I’m assuming they treat takeout food different to sit in diners as our breakfasts looked nothing like other reviews on here! If you are going to risk using this establishment I would advise you to sit in as the takeaway standard is awful

I can't rate this a 10 which is devastating because trip advisor only do 5 stars this place deserves 10. The staff are lovely and the food is amazing id recommend this place everytime especially for their breakfast the French toast best I've ever had and my partner loves the cooked breakfast

We visited today with our 2 Grandchildren. My husband and o had a sandwich. Both enjoyed it. Our 5 year old had chicken nuggets and a pile of chips with beans (50p) extra. £4.50 for all kids meals. Doesn’t even include a drink for kids. Our 2 year old asked for ham sandwich. It too came with a pile of chips. Feel the chips are unnecessary at 12 noon. She doesn’t eat chips so was really just a sandwich we wanted but wasn’t an option. Again -£4.50 for basically a sandwich then over £2 for tumbler of milk. Just feel that kids menu is a rip off.

The Secret Garden does not, in my view, cope well when it is busy. Despite reserving a table on Easter Sunday we still had to wait over an hour for our food, including a 45 minute wait for a smoothie, eventually brought to our table...

Not impressed with staff today at the Secret Garden. Ordered 3 coffees and 3 rolls, told it would take 15 - 20 mins. Waited 40 mins to find out that the coffees had been sitting for 10mins and the filled rolls would take another ‘5mins...

I attended here for a takeaway lunch during a local lockdown and I have to say the lunch was delicious, so much so that I decided to return for a sit in breakfast this morning. On our arrival we were advised to grab a seat anywhere that didn’t have a reserved sign, which was fine there was still a large selection of tables available. It appears very little has been done to ensure safe distancing within the cafe seating area, the tables are closely packed together with several backing directly on to each other. The room was also incredibly cold, two heaters were present but it didn’t look like they had been switched on. No doors appeared open so there wasn’t a draft it was just extremely cold! We kept our jackets on through the meal. Sadly, the room appeared dirty, the walls had a concerning amount of dust and dirt built up on the sills, we also had to brush crumbs off the seat and table which raised the concern if the tabled had been wiped down between uses. Overall given the quality of the food during their takeaway phase, it was disappointing it couldn’t be reflected in the general presentation of the cafe.

We had booked a table for lunch as on our previous visit we had been lucky to get the last available table. A friendly welcome as soon as we arrived. Prompt and friendly service. Minestrone Soup and sandwich combo was very tasty, well presented and a very filling lunch. My wife had delicious red pepper and tomato soup followed by a pot of tea and a generous slice of iced gingerbread. Reassuring to see good COVID safety measures in place. Definitely will be back.

Food was good,well presented with nice fresh side salad.. However,the place was busier than ever and tables too close for comfort. Realise there was a 1 metre distance notice on display and saw sanitizing when a table was vacated. Good to see a local business well supported but sorry, too busy and uncomfortable for us in present times.

Went with a friend and we had the last unbooked table for lunch midweek. The staff were welcoming and friendly with a reasonably priced menu. We both had soup and a generous sandwich which were tasty and filling. The place was very busy and it’s best to book a table. It was very good to meet an old friend and enjoy some chat and banter with the staff.

It Was our friends 60th and hit with COVID restrictions! They delivered afternoon tea for us and it was outstanding ! Meet all our needs ( veggie / butter free ) and the selection was amazing ! Took 3 days to polish it off cannot fault anything and that says a lot for us Falkirk folk ! Highly recommend if your looking for a buffet!!! Thanks not so secret garden

Absolutely love coming to the secret garden the service is always very friendly. They definitely have the best coffee and breakfast in ayrshire and the food is always lovely. It's rare now to find a place who put quality over anything else now. would highly recommend

External views can be deceptive and this is the case at the Secret Garden, south of AYR not fat from Alloway. A lovely outside terrace awaits patrons with most of it under cover but with tables spaced to meet socially distancing guidelines (well they were when I wrote this!)We had dropped in for afternoon coffee/tea and cake and got a table easily. Two freshly homemade (and massive) scones, one spiced orange and one cherry and coconut served with butter and jam and a slice of millionaires shortbread were accompanied with Earl Grey tea, black coffee coffee and two mango smoothiesFood and drink were as excellent as the friendly and courteous service. £18:10, a great price for a great ‘tea’ in a great establishment with great setting. Can’t wait ‘till we go back!

Myself and my partner visited here with our 13 week old puppy. We were greeted in the covered outside area by friendly safe. Who made our dog more than welcome with treats and water. The food was delicious! And we visited the day later for take away coffees. Have already recommended to friends and family! Will definitely be back!!

I went for a meal with my parents today. It’s our first visit to the secret garden and also first restaurant visit since the pandemic started. The food was amazing I had breakfast pancakes and they were very good. The place was clean and staff were friendly. There was plenty of hand sanitiser and also too track and trace details as required. Staff all wore masks and err friendly and helpful. We took some of the scones home for the afternoon. These were very nice.

Good hygiene practice during this time. Food took 45 minutes to arrive but was absolutely delicious. We were also offered free drinks for the delay. Perhaps an update on the progress of the order would have been useful.

We had breakfast after leaving Craig Tara Haven site. Eggs Benedict with smoked salmon, full Scottish and a Vegetarian breakfast. All delicious. Service warm and friendly, value for money outstanding.

Visited here on few occasions and always lovely but went last week on the Tues and thought we would get 50% off but waitress said no they weren't doing it. I never queried it, just paid the bill but noticed it was on the list of all the restaurants and coffee shops that were participating so why on the list???

My wife and I stopped at the Secret Garden last week. We walked up and say on the deck outside. Upon approaching the table the server told us she had to clean the table (because there was dirty cups/plates on the table). She made the worst attempt at cleaning a table I have ever seen. She spayed the table very lightly and wiped about 15% of the table. I felt as tho we couldn’t safely touch the table we were sitting at. The next thing I noticed was that NO staff were wearing any sort of face covering. Lastly there were two tables left and right of us turned over without the table being cleaned at all whatsoever. I feel this is not good enough considering the environment and the fact that there is a pandemic going on. Everyone’s hygiene measures have gone through the roof and I feel like theirs has gone the opposite direction to be honest. These are the businesses that will spread the virus not help contain it.

Have visited many times and always had good service and lovely food. We arrived today and after walking from the car park, past the bins and up the stairs with my mother in law who had a stroke 2 months ago, all the outside tables were empty with reserved signs, except one that sat 2 (4 in our party). My mother in law sat down and my husband tried to find someone to ask for 2 extra seats. When he said 'excuse me' he was told by the male server 'im busy!' my father in law then tried to find someone to ask and the same man told us to get up from the table it was reserved (no reserved sign). Needless to say we won't be back, no need for rudeness a simple sorry we're full would suffice.

5 of us visited this cafe last week, staff are efficient, friendly with good banter and the food is top class, outstanding in fact, I'd recommend this place to anyone, I,ll be back, thank you.

Had one of the best plates of french toast ever here - and plenty of maple syrup provided! Dad wasn't a fan of the hollandaise sauce in his eggs benedict though. Good service and atmosphere. Looking forward to coming again.

Had no prior knowledge of the Secret Garden, just noticed it while passing through. It's not the prettiest walk from the carpark past the bins to the decking area but it's ideal access when you have a canine companion. We're all still getting used to socialising again, difficult times, and had no worries here. Well signposted, hand sanitiser provided and contact details taken- hopefully they'll not be needed.So, on to the cakes! Delicious, generous portions, delicious, tasty, appealing, did I mention delicious? Lovely coffee too and fresh water and treats for the wee dug. All reasonably priced and served by friendly staff. Thank you

We visited for a mid week lunch. My girlfriend had the Cajun pasta and this was nice but pretty oily. I had fish and chips but the fish portion was surprisingly small. The service was very friendly. Overall: I wouldn’t be disappointed to return but wouldn’t make a detour to do so.

We have visited here often in the past and were looking forward to returning for coffee and cake - the first since lockdown . We stopped inside the door, used the hand sanitiser and asked a member of staff if it was okay to come in to which we were told “ yes just sit anywhere”. They had obviously had a busy spell as many tables were still covered with dishes. Although there were small arrows on the floor- which we didn’t notice until after sitting down , it was impossible to move between tables and keep 1 metre distance from them. We chose a table and a staff member came and removed the dirty dishes. The table was covered with crumbs and even under normal circumstances I would have expected it to be wiped but especially now would have thought it reasonable if not mandatory for some cleaning to take place between customers, I was quite perturbed that this did not happen. I feel it would be better to control those entering until there was a clean sanitised table available. We were also concerned that some staff appeared to make no attempt to maintain 1 metre distance from customers even though they wore no masks or visors. Disappointed as we don’t feel confident about returning just now.

Stopped in today and was pleased to see tables both inside and outside were separated. Unfortunately it was table service today and none of the staff were wearing visors or face masks and were regularly much closer than 1 metre to a variety of customers. Unlike other cafes we have tried recently we were not asked at any point for contact details . Although food was lovely and it’s a great setting the lack of covid related precautionary measures was concerning.

We had the best afternoon tea delivered to our house. The sandwiches, cakes, scones jam and cream were plentiful delicious and soooooo tasty. The staff were helpful and catered for our families variety of wishes, vegetarian, no fish egg a mayonnaise please etc. I cant praise them more highly.

The Secret Garden delivered us a funeral picnic for the wake after my Dads funeral and it was absolutely superb. Because of Covid rules and social distancing we felt this was a good option and we were not disappointed! The choice and quality of food was outstanding. So much food and all of it absolutely delicious and such good value. The service was great too and the staff we dealt with were so friendly, kind and considerate. I would not hesitate to recommend.

A fantastic wee place. Great value for money, offering quality food and drinks. You will receive a very warm welcome from all the staff, nothing is too much trouble. When I am visiting home again we will definitely be calling in. The hot chocolate, coffee, smoothies and scones are all highly recommended.

It was just a quick lunchtime snack,just a toastie, Bacon Brie & cranberry, it was really nice and lots of it, with coffee. The service is just a bit on the slow side only because everything is freshly cooked. It is definitely a place to go again! It would be really nice in the summer, on the deck which is down a few steps and just above the river.

Late afternoon after a walk my friend and I decided to try this little restaurant for a coffee. Lovely and warm, staff very welcoming and we couldn’t believe the size of the delicious scones .... so big, we both went without dinner that night !! Fabulous prices ...just under £8 for two coffees and two scones (special offer during the week). We will most definitely be back

We took the opportunity to return to the Secret Garden again this year whilst holidaying on the Ayrshire coast. (The birdwatching at Doonfoot is excellent)We were impressed on our visit last year and were impressed again. Nice atmosphere, great scone (allegedly "medium" sized - I don't think I could have managed anything larger). Lovely coffee, pleasant staff, good value. Will always make a point of visiting if we are in the area.(NB I always check the "one star " reviews when they seem to contradict my own. Some of the reviews seem to infer pricing problems. I can confirm that I also suffered a pricing problem in that I was UNDERCHARGED! In a former life, I was an accountant specialising in small business so I am aware of the sometimes small margins suffered by these businesses. Consequently when I have been offered an excellent service, I insist on paying the going rate. When I brought the matter to the managers attention, I was advised that we'd only arrived 10 minutes late for the morning coffee and scone "offer" so that they'd given me the reduced price anyway. I think that's called "goodwill")

Having looked at favourable reviews on TA, we visited The Secret Garden for breakfast on three consecutive days in early September whilst on a golfing holiday in South Ayrshire.On all three occasions the quality of food served up was excellent and portion size was more than adequate. The produce is locally sourced and fresh. Presentation is excellent but, more importantly, it tasted fantastic! The coffee is up there with the best I've had anywhere.The service was prompt and very friendly.All in all this was a real find. Yes you can probably find cheaper places to eat in Ayr but, trust me, this place takes some beating on quality, value for money and service.If we return to Ayr we will definitely eat at The Secret Garden again.

We arrived when Secret Garden opened on a Sunday morning and enjoyed a lovely breakfast, a warming pot of tea, and free wifi. Sadly, rain prevented us from sitting on the deck, where we could have enjoyed a lovely view of the river lazing by.

We chose to eat here as it is dog friendly (provided you eat outside on the terrace by the river). Fast, friendly service and excellent food (we had a light lunch - panini and toastie). Water and biscuits fir doggie arrived too without any prompting.

Have previously been to this restaurant for coffee and cakes but decided to go for lunch. Food and service were excellent. Two of us had the 'Over 60's Deal' of soup and a main course. Both the carrot & coriander and the cream of cauliflower soups were excellent. The haddock and chips and the macaroni cheese were also very good but filling. The two ladies had toasties followed by a piece of fruit loaf and we all agreed that the food was well cooked and presented.

We have visited the Secret Garden several times in the the past, whilst visiting Ayrshire. It is a genuine 'gem', very friendly and serves delicious coffee. We plan to visit again in mid-September and are looking forward to it.

.We arrived on a very hot sunny day and as we wanted to sit out on the deck by the river we entered straight onto the deck via a disgusting little alley full of stinking bins. Ok maybe we could have walked through the dining area to get there. We had two coffees and two scones £10, I kid you not and wait for it they had run out of fresh milk!!! even though the place is actually attached to a little grocery store they would not buy milk for our coffee. We both had soya milk in our coffees and it was disgusting, we could not drink it. The scones were good but certainly not worth £10. I will never be back. If you have any sense you will give this place a wide berth

We had the most wonderful breakfast at the secret garden. I had blank pudding which comes directly from the island of Lewis in Scotland and it was a true culinary delight! The smoked salmon was also on a level of its own. The staff are quick, helpful and very friendly so if you are in this area this is definitely a place not to be missed.

Having moved to Ayr 4 years ago and tried most of the cafes in the area I find myself constantly coming back to The Secret Garden.

We enjoyed a lovely lunch here recently. It is very clean and although parking is a bit restricted this place is worth a visit. There is a super selection of hot and cold items. They have a great selection of a cakes and scones. You need another visit to try as the cakes are amazing. They also do a takeaway service.

Wonderful breakfast menu from simple rolls to full hot plates with a stunning veggie option which 3 of our party delighted in even tho non veggies. Other plates we saw coming out of the kitchen were equally as delicious looking . Exceptionnally well priced for the beautiful fresh produce we had on our plates , all served by friendly, efficient smiley staff. One of the best breakfasts ever. Would defineately return, and many others obviously do judging by the number of regulars who also agree with this lovely little picturesque cafe. Keep up the good work and thankyou.

Gem of a Wee Place stop here Quite Regular for a Spot of Lunch or its a Great Coffee Stop when out for a Cycle. Food is Excellent and Staff very friendly & courteous, And of course in a Fantastic Location 💪🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿😎

Out for a walk and came across this cafe/bistro just when we needed lunch. Staff were very friendly, cafe very comfortable and the food was very, very tasty.

Breakfast was delicious & it was presented beautifully on the plate, staff was super lovely. Must try food

this is a nice wee restaurant to meet your friends there were 6 of us and we had a good discussion while drinking our tea and coffee and eating our buns this place is good for a meet up

A great place for a meal or just a Coffee and there is a great outside seating area beside the river Doon where Dog,s are made most welcome, The staff are friendly and very helpful I would recommend you give it a try

This is a great stop off point for walkers and meeting up with friends. Very friendly staff, dog friendly (dog drinking bowls etc), and superb home made cakes, scones etc to complement the coffee. Would also recommend the lunches as, again, really nice at very reasonable prices.
