It would be very difficult to fault any aspects of an experience at the Failford Inn. It perfectly blends an authentic olde world Ayrshire atmosphere of a highway inn, with the contemporary standard of modern and fine dining. There is a lot of local/Scottish food and seafood on offer at many times. Obviously a highly trained, talented and caring chef is at work here. Also, the pricing is highly competitive and realistic, despite various financial crises affecting restaurants at the moment. We ate in the bar area, as we have done before, and it is a lovely atmosphere. The scale is intimate, the decor is authentic and local, and it is a treat to have a traditional inglenook style fire close by. The serving staff are friendly and attentive. The restaurant/pub also enjoys a spectacular setting in the countryside around Mauchline, with nearby access to a number of historic and scenic sites of great intrigue. It is suited to people just looking to eat out but also those looking for a trek and then a wonderful meal. The village itself is also highly Picturesque and quaint. The menu also changes from time to time, which makes it more interesting for return visits. Only fault is that some of the tables are a bit wee, but this is only a minor thing.

Lucky to get booking within 15 minutes of calling. We were ushered in to a small snug bar area which puts snug to the extreme ( only 4 tables), it was really cosy. The food itself was excellent I had chicken tempura for starter and was an ample portion. For mains we had chicken skewers and pork stroganoff which were good, but a wee bit pricey. The menu was very limited which I suppose is understandable considering the size of the place. I would recommend a wee visit to this cosy wee place.

Fresh, tasty food in generous portions as always. Failford changes it's menu regularly and this one leans in to elevated pub comfort food to great effect. The bar had a nice busy little buzz on Friday evening - great atmosphere. Failford's the best country inn in the district. Don't miss out!

This has to be the best place to eat for far enough in this area, we spent first 2 days looking for good home cooked food , with actual places very few and far, we turned up late as kitchen was about to close but they didn't disappoint us by turning up away. We both had starters , Salmon and avocado , tempura mix with chilli dip, both fantastic portions and equally delicious, both very fresh, we both opted for steak and ale pie which was fantastic, beef was very soft and rich gravy obviously home cooked with seasonal veg home made chips. to finish off had a sticky toffee pudding, has to be the best I have ever had, we feel we were so lucky to have eaten here, they owners couldn't have been better., good relaxed atmosphere , fantastic food very reasonably priced and very pet friendly. Don't miss this place out first class

What a find! This inn is a real gem. The food was superbly prepared, presentation was excellent and the quality of each of our main courses was excellent. Two of us had fish and chips and I wouldn't have been surprised if the fish was fresh off the trawler that morning - it was delicious and moist. One of our party had the duck, which he was very pleased with, and said it was cooked to perfection. The steak was cooked exactly as our final party member liked it and was tasty. The prices were surprisingly good. An excellent place for lunch and, I should imagine, equally as good for an evening meal. I gather it is open Friday, Saturday and Sunday and may open Wednesday and Thursdays during the summer holiday season but check it out first.

Ate at the Failford Inn recently. We were seated in the restaurant area this time, but wish we could have been seated in the bar area, where we ate on our last visit. It had a lovely open fire and was nice and cosy. Where we ate felt cold and uninviting. No complaints with the meals, everything we had was well cooked and tasty. Prices are definitely up from the last time we were there, but it’s the same everywhere. The staff were very attentive and friendly. Would definitely revisit when the weather is nicer. 👍

We chose restaurant. Server who was also part owner with husband chef was very friendly and almost seemed like a friend was very polite and welcoming. I ordered the baked brie and cleaned the plate. Delicious. Wife ordered tempura. Best she's ever had. Better than mine apparentlylol. She had a steak which was seasoned and cooked to perfection and I had the langostines in garlic butter. All outstanding. I don't often eat out as I'm bored of restaurant food being a chef but I'll be back. As a chef I'm critical about everything but lunch today was outstanding

We recently enjoyed dinner at the Failford Inn and would recommend it. It is an old traditional inn in a rural location. Meals are served both in the restaurant and the snug bar. The décor of the restaurant is in keeping with the age of the inn with low wooden beams. The food was very good and seems fresh cooked to order. There is a good choice of starters , mains and desserts. I had Haggis Drambuie which was served in a pot with roasted potato scones and and garnished with salad. It was very tasty and different from run of the mill starters. My wife had roasted goats cheese with crispy bacon and spoke highly of it. For the main course I had haddock goujons with chips and salad which was nicely presented and my wife had home made steak pie which came with a choice of chips or boiled or mashed potatoes. It looked delicious and my wife said it was. The gravy was rich and full flavoured and the meat cooked to perfection. We were too full for a dessert. The service was excellent . We were staying nearby on holiday for a few days and drove past this place. Looking for somewhere to have a good family meal we booked a table and headed to the Failford Inn for our last night in this beautiful part of the world. We were not disappointed in the least! 5 adults and 2 kids we were seated straight away and the lady (sorry forget her name) was welcoming and friendly and made a real effort to get to know us. The menu is great, not to big but plenty of choice for kids and adults alike and all at a very reasonable price. We ordered a range of starters Haggis and chicken strips which got a big thumbs up from everyone- the haggis in particular as beautiful. The kids had a kids meal each, lasagne for one and chicken nuggets for the other - clean plates from both so they clearly enjoyed it. The rest is had a variety - burger (doubled up at my greedy brother in laws request) the failford sirloin, steak pies and the fillet, with large portions of Vegetables and chips to share we were all very impressed. The steaks were cooked perfectly the burger juicy and the steak in the pie melted in the mouth. Not much room for desserts but I had to try the apple crumble which was delightful and the kids managed to squeeze down an ice scream each. Good selection of bottled ales, great atmosphere and good price. My only warning is that parking is limited and if busy I can imagine it been quite tricky to get a space. Thank Failford Inn, we hope to be back one day

We ate on a Friday lunchtime so the pub was unexpectedly quiet and it was too soon in the season to have the fire in the bar burning. However service was quick friendly and welcoming. The food was excellent and the only problem was that we could not finish the meal as the portions were so generous. Food was well cooked and excellently seasoned. The bar is dog friendly which is excellent as it is a great excuse to take a walk along the River Ayr Walk.my only slight complaint was that there used to be real ale on tap but now they do bottled Strathaven Ales and Orkney Dark Island what a hard life LOL

We used to be frequent visitors of this establishment when we lived in the locality more than a decade ago. It was amazing then and due to it being taken over several times since our residence, we were unsure if it would live up to our expectations. We were truly amazed to discover it exceeded our expectations fro start to finish. The lady who served us was ever so helpful and really went out of her way to ensure we had an excellent dining experience. The food was excellent, absolutely amazing. From the starter and main it was cooked to perfection, with generous portions and fresh ingredients. Plus it was very reasonably priced, providing excellent value for money. Can't praise this establishment highly enough and can't wait to return.

So all my years of dining out and iv never had to complain until now.. Wen we arrived place was very quiet.. only 2 tables taken and a few staff members floating about.. got seated offered drinks and menus given.. took a small while to get orders done but nothing worth worrying about everything seemed fine.. sat a good while later b4 a waitress turned up with bread (probs been in about 40 mins by now) so I started spread the rolls n giving some to the kids but they wee far too hot for my 2year old who was getting a bit cranky at this point but still we wee fine.. by the time I got my bread spread our starters turned up so I expected the kids meals with them but they didn't arrive n no 1 came bak near so we started eating them.. which neither 1 of us was impressed with as the pate was unset and the garlic mushrooms wer really bland.. by the time we finished them still no sign of any1.. over an hour had past and my kids sat with nothing but a bread roll and my husband's glass was empty.. he was due to walk out wen I asked him to wait.. I then hd to shout some1 over n ask for the kids food as soon as it was ready.. the girl rolled her eyes n walked away.. clearly they knew we wer getting impatient and still they avoided our table.. my husband then had to go thru to the bar and ask for a drink.. shortly after he had had enough and did stand up to walk out but the kids meals arrived so I again asked him to sit down.. my 2 year out was sitting in a high chair with a tray n they brought out an huge adult size plate n sat it down in front of her.. so I quickly took it away b4 she knock it off as I clearly didn't fit on the tray.. I also asked if it was warm n i was told probably.. I then asked for a smaller plastic plate.. as the kids started eating ours arrived then as I was sorting out my 2 year olds I nothing a long blonde hair.. as she is 2 her hair is still short and I have almost black hair.. that was it I had had enough.. was all got up and I asked to speak to a manager.. so the girl said ok.. walked out n the same girl came bak n asked what the problem was.. as I told her we wernt happy the kids wer left for well over an hour with no food and had to sit while we ate ours her response was.. we gave u bread.. as I looked at her in disbelief she then said.. anyway u never asked us to bring the kids meals with ur starters.. I then pointed out we also wee never have the option and it's always been common practice anywhere where else.. she also told me it wasn't her fault my husband had no drink as he wasn't at the table wen she walked thru.. and wen she asked to see the hair by this time I couldn't find it. Her response was.. well iv got ginger hair and the chef dosnt have long blonde hair.. so by this time I actually couldn't stand there any longer. They didn't even care we wernt happy.. I just lifted my kids n walked out.. our dinners wer hardly even touched.. and they never even offered to give us the kids icecream but still went on to charge us full price for everything. And not even a sorry offered.. I can honestly say it's the worst experience of ever had in a restaurant and il never be back.. I won't be recommending any1 to go near this place.. the service was appalling

Straight to the point, the homemade steak pie is a must! Meat that melts in your mouth, served with a choice of potato and fresh veg is delightful. The scampi is lightly battered and is whole tail and comes with chunky fries and salad. Accompanied by 2 large glasses of Merlot, the bill came to a little over £25 - great value. Staff are friendly and you need to book if you want a table by the window that overlooks the river, otherwise the beer garden is the place for the view. Highly recommended.

We are staying in a cottage in the village so this 'wee' inn was a must. The staff are sooo friendly and nothing is too much, making you feel welcome as soon as you walk in the door. Then we ate!!!! What can I say...the Steak Pie with seasonal veg was the best thing I have ever eaten in my life. Fresh, hot and homemade. Our starters also delicious. Food and drink all reasonably priced. The Failford Inn has an idyllic beer garden/decking at the rear overlooking the beautiful River Ayr where can enjoy the sound of the river and see all sorts of birds and wildlife. Can not fault this treasure and cant wait for our next visit.

We visited here as we were staying nearby, welcoming staff and very friendly atmosphere. Ordered a smoked trout starter with whole grain mustard and salad, and then had 10oz fillet with trimmings a bargain at £19-95 for the fillet and it was delicious, very tender and washed down with a bottle of merlot at £12-95 a real bargain. Thank you for a lovely meal.

Been here quite a few times over the years but this is our first visit since it re-opened in December & we were well impressed, beautifully redecorated, we were given sa choice of dining areas & chose to eat in the restaurant looking out on the beer garden & the beautiful River Ayr. The waiting staff were very pleasant & friendly & couldn't do enough to accommodate my carbohydrate free diet, the portion sizes were plentiful, the food freshly prepared & delicious & the bill wasn't too jaw dropping, we will definitely be making a return visit in the near future.

We are always looking for new spots to eat and visit with our dogs. Not only is there a fabulous walk on the Failford Inns doorstep, try it, you will love it and the dogs will run themselves ragged!! but the Inn is recently refurbished, run by really nice people and the food is great.Four of us went on a Friday evening and found it superb. The menu is pretty varied, I had the chicken strips followed by chicken stroganoff and was full to the gunnel. We had plenty of drinks, a bottle of red and the total bill was 100 pounds, brilliant value. You cant take dogs into the Burns themed restaurant but they have a cosy wee bar that they are more than welcome in and in the summer, the outside beer garden, overlooking the river, will be fabby.Honestly, give it a try, you wont be disappointed, promise.

Nipped In here today after our dog walk on the River Ayr, to so say it's changed since our last visit is an understatement! Outdoor area undergoing a much needed revamp, and the bar area was very welcoming. We chose to sit outside as the sun was kinda out! Service was first class & the food was very homely, everything we had was delicious & take it from me I am the most judgemental when it comes to my lasagne & Failfords didn't disappoint, and the prices were great 3 mains & 2 drinks each, some were soft drinks & the bill was just short of £40, great value for money! Will make this a more regular walk If I get this wee treat at the end of it!!! Oh & pooch was well looked after as well a bowl of water and some gravy bones so a happy puppy as well

No opening hours posted. Seem short staffed on the day of our visit. Very good food at a reasonable price. A good bar area and nice views of the River Ayr from the restaurant. The owners are enthusiastic and interested in the community and its history. A great place for a meal after a walk through the local nature reserve. Robert Burns interest in the inn and at the Highland Mary memorial nearby. Not much car parking.

Recently visited the restaurant for lunch. Dinned in the bar where there was an open fire burning. Lovely ambience. My husband ordered the steak pie which was a huge plate of food. It looked lovely and tasted fantastic! I had scampi which was also very good. We had a look at there refurbished restaurant. It is a really lovely room so much better than before. The owners made us feel very welcome. We wish them every success.Any one looking at their web site to view the menu be careful because they have not updated it since taking over the business in December 2015. Apparently they are going to address this in the future.
