Very impressed, Big thanks to staff member Charlie for excellent service and a big smile, my partner was very grateful for her recommendation for her sweet, ( lemon basil cheesecake) it was divine 👌🏼 Big shout out to the chef, we couldn’t fault anything , it was all spot on and good size portions. We will be back again and definitely recommend The scullery for good food and well worth the money.

Another great morning at the scullery. There were 5 of us for a late breakfast and the staff couldn't do enough for us! I had the full English which was delicious, as usual! And my son had the pancakes which also looked, and tasted, amazing! My other 3 guests hadn't been before and they said they would definitely be back! Thanx again xx

I honestly don’t know how to tell you how bad the scullery is, we’ve been several times and everytime something goes wrong, we go back as it’s local and the views are stunning, and keep thinking surely it will be better, today was the last time. The service is chaotic, there are so many staff but it’s just seemingly a social event for them because there’s no actual service, they let you order things they’ve ran out of and don’t tell you, don’t listen to drink orders, bring you things you haven’t ordered forget things you have, it’s just a complete shambles. Cannot recommend less.

Lovely Setting and Nice Meal although the service was quite slow. My wife had the Sunday Roast Lamb which she thoroughly enjoyed. I had the ribe eye steak which was good but not rare enough which i asked for. The chips, mushrooms and tomato were very good. The best part though is the waiter Luis from Portugal who makes you feel so special and is so funny and is an absolute credit to Hurlston Hall.

I took a friend for lunch on 7/6 thinking it would be a beautiful setting and great food….The setting was beautiful and we were show to a front window table. Ordered two drinks…white wine and lemonade, and a coke. White wine and soda arrived with a tea? Placed our order for lunch waitress returns, one of the items not available today (she had forgotten), re-order the burger. This arrives on a.small oblong plate and all the chips slide off on delivery. No offer of replacement just told sorry they usually have a napkin under to stop them sliding off?! Coleslaw was forgotten and had to be requested. Waitress asked for our choice of sauces but we had almost finished by the time they arrived. Another waitress passed us multiple times asking us if we ordered various drinks even though all the tables are numbered (reminded us of Julie Walter’s and the soup sketch). We ordered puddings but again had to ask what the crumble/cheesecake was when the waitress came back for our order, then there was no cheesecake after we had ordered, reordered the crumble with custard. This arrived again on oblong plates, crumble in a ramekin and custard in a jug, looks pretty but not practical, you can’t pour custard over as the ramekin is too full. Waited and waited for the bill and eventually got up and paid at the till. So many silly things wrong that could easily be fixed by attention to detail. Beautiful setting but an average lunch and awful service.

Unfortunately the scullery has gone down hill from what it previously was when it first opened. We waited almost 1 hour for 2 salads, a pizza, and a starter, which was surprising as the restaurant was near empty. The salad was not seasoned and lacked dressing and the pizza toppings were haphazardly thrown on. The kitchen staff seemed pre-occupied with other tasks (i.e taking phone calls and eating) rather than preparing food. The atmosphere in the restaurant was also chaotic as chairs were being vacuum cleaned while guests were dining which was slightly off putting. Due to this, the restaurant area was in disarray and very messy with chairs everywhere. Unfortunately the whole experience was very disappointing from both food to service.

Went yesterday for Easter Sunday and had a lovely roast dinner. Roast was beautiful. However my husband ordered steak pie chips and peas with a gravy. This arrived on a board with hardly any room for manoeuvre to place the chips and did not like the idea of pouring gravy over a board. We asked for a plate and was given a small cold plate by a sulky waitress. I called her back over and asked her to place dinner on a hot dinner plate. This was taken away with a flip remark to me that they were always presented on a board. His dinner was returned back to him but had gone cold, he didn't tell me this until we got home as he didn't want to hold everybody up. Wine was also late arriving to have with our dinner. I spoke to supervisor called Lorraine who was lovely and very helpful and agreed it wasn't a good idea to serve a gravy on a board and apologised for wine arriving late. She was very pleasant and helpful. The only other thing I would say is that there were a lot of young girls who a lot of the time were huddled together having a chat and spending time at the till with their backs to everybody so we were left waiting each time we wanted something and sometimes when you thought you had somebody's eye they just ignored you. My husband does not want to return but hopefully things will improve as I know there's been a big staff change and we did stop going once before after the refurbishment and being regulars for years and had many good times in both bistro and the events rooms upstairs. He also being a player of golf and used to be a member.

Nothing is too much trouble, he is always very obliging and very attentive, but this morning he was overloaded with customers wanting to be served, but he wasn't phased and was extremely professional in his approach to inpatient customers. We went here as a family for Easter Sunday lunch having been the previous year and thoroughly enjoyed it. However this year was completely different . Firstly it lacked atmosphere being only a few tables of guests . The meal took a while to arrive but when it did it was dreadful and inedible . We opted for the roast lamb as there was no other choice except for a vegetarian option. The Yorkshire pudding was stone cold and burned, the lamb was undercooked and very fatty and some of the vegetables were undercooked . To summarise it looked awful on the plates. Looking round at the few other tables everyone felt the same as there was so much food left on everyone's plates. They advertised there being a face painter for the children , which there werent . There were 2 girl entertainers who did their best to entertain the children. To sum up I feel that it was a waste of nearly £400.00 for our party and certainly won't be going anymore.

Went for dinner on Ladies Night. Had the Mexican Fillet Steak which was delicious as was the Chocolate Fondant dessert. Problem was the service, which was truly awful. We had to keep reminding the staff we were still waiting, they kept forgetting what we had ordered and we waited ages for drinks. They were very busy, which was also a worry in the middle of a pandemic, when the restaurant was full. Would have felt more comfortable if the staff wore masks. Not much social distancing when people were moving around. Major minus was watching one of the chefs squeeze a bit of dressing or something onto there fingers and taste it - totally normal I’m sure, but then without washing/sanitising his hands I watched him handle fish and chips and place on a plate. Waiter was under some kind of incentive to get people to become a member, even when I explained we lived too far away, he continued with his script. All items on the menu were £15 which we presumed would then be discounted for the eat out to help out scheme, when we got our bill we were told this was already half price and the mains are actually £30 each! I visited this restaurant recently with a group of 7 friends to take advantage of the 50% off - funded by the tax payer. On arrival we were only presented with the “all day menu” which was basically pizzas, burgers, sandwiches etc. - not what we had anticipated. What we did notice was the incredible hike in prices - for instance - a cheese burger with chips was priced at £19, meaning we pay £9.50. A portion of chips alone was £5 (£2.50 to pay) These prices almost doubled from the normal price (also taking in to account the large reduction in VAT payable on food)meaning the restaurant would claim back the same from the tax payer. I appreciate that restaurants have had a poor year to date but this pricing policy is far out of the spirit of this government’s policy to assist their business. We indicated that we would go somewhere else and were offered the a la carte menu which was more acceptably priced. The afternoon teas were also reasonably priced.

We also witnessed a local “celebrity” having the menu read out to him whilst we were waiting over 25 minutes for a drink? Unfair in my opinion. Don’t think we’ll be back unless the staff are retrained and the management is reassessed and it seems like an absolute mess!

Came for a meal out with the family as a special treat thinking it would be more affordable with the Eat Out to Help Out scheme. I booked online and the only information that came up was that Tuesday night was Steak Night. We were stuck in a corner table and despite having loads of staff, the service was slow. Both food and drink took a long time to come. None of the staff wore visors and there was no social distancing- they kept leaning over us to serve which I wasn’t comfortable with. The steaks were nice but came with hardly any chips which were lukewarm, as were the veg. My son had a sausage burger (?!) which came with a lot more chips which were piping hot so he obviously got a fresh batch. It was a hot night and we were constantly batting away flies which was not pleasant. When we were presented with the bill, it was a lot more than we expected. I asked for the bill to be explained and was told that just the EOHO logo meant that all the prices were already discounted and the first round of drinks were complimentary. Nowhere on the menu did it say either of those things. I spoke to the man with the beard and man bun and he did nothing but argue with me and he didn’t apologise for any misunderstanding. He kept saying “it’s on the website “ but as my husband pointed out later, we weren’t ordering from the website. By the end, I was getting more and more upset but he kept arguing his point with me when I just wanted him to move aside so that I could leave. We have taken advantage of this offer at quite a few other places and the experience has always been pleasant so this was extremely disappointing. Needless to say, we won’t be returning. The Portuguese brothers who were serving us were as pleasant as ever though - the Management needs to learn from them.

Restaurant review Last night My husband and I had dinner in the scullery. We really enjoyed it. Good food, service and a nice atmosphere. It was suitably busy. There were plenty of good staff - mostly new. I had asked for a quiet table inside and that’s what we had. Lots of space around ours so no partition needed - others inside did have Screens behind them. From a covid point of view, there was sanitiser at the door, no masks were worn by the waiters, so make your own minds up about that. Food was very good, starters I had calamari my husband had mussels. Mains I had forester chicken (delicious!) husband has burger (needed a bit of a side salad) we shared chocolate fondant pud. All were good and very well presented. We also had a nice bottle of wine. We dined as part of the Eat our to help out scheme so the discount was welcomed. Decided to try this place again after their grand re-opening after lockdown as I expected it to have improved, but it hasn’t. Food is ridiculously overpriced for the pub quality and I’m sorry but the service (I mean what service?) does not even attempt to compensate in the slightest. My thoughts are they are trying to be a low rent Moor Hall but let’s face it, Hurlston are a golf centre and gym, not high end restaurant and it’d be better if they went back to what they used to do. I’d return if they did, it once had a friendly atmosphere and good quality, with a bit higher than average price and that worked. Whatever they are they are trying to do now simply doesn’t.

You are left to wait for everything. Very rarely do you get anyone coming over to check if everything is alright but this is probably due to the fact that they are running the place on a skeleton crew now. All of the familiar faces have gone except for Leigh who still manages to talk to everyone and leave the rest of the staff to do everything. How can such a great place hit the floor so badly and lose so many great staff (where they treated so badly they had to leave).Surely the owners have to see what is happening.I for one will not be returning until they rectify the issues.

Ordered 2 Buddha bowls with halloumi & prawns , both of which were very dry & contents inadequate for the prices charged. Would not recommend, Previous good standards have sadly dropped.

Booked for 2 people, waited over an hour for food, lovely when it finally came, we were offered free drink& or coffee, which we accepted, but not much in compensation, we were informed only 2 chefs working, but the service is really slow,at the best of times. for what it offers it is pricey.

Place and room = excellentFood = excellentBar = expensiveService = needs attentionWe had a good night overall but the bar area is woeful.Number of staff was plentiful but most were obviously new and in need of training. They were perfectly pleasant but sadly out of their depth.Bar had 4 staff most of the time, but only one till and one card machine. There were two tills but only one operating! It appeared that everytime an order was placed each member of staff seemed to have to sign in which was time consuming.

I visit here every so often, it was always a nice place to eat at, friendly staff, pleasant atmosphere etc. But on my recent visits, the staff seem disinterested, the ambience has been just off, flat, there are a lot of new staff who just seem to want to take your order, slap your meal down and walk off. Needless to say I'll be voting with my feet.

The wait staff was uninformed and uninterested. The female server that brought our menus was not aware of basic information about the menu. She told us that the roast menu was on our table when in fact it was on a board at the entrance of the restaurant and that we had to leave our table to read it.The meats were precooked obviously and reheated but overcooked. The charred octopus was drowning in sauce

Booked for Sunday lunch after seeing their new 3 meat Sunday lunch on Facebook. We were not disappointed. We all selected the 3 meats which was beef, pork & turkey; all were juicy and succulent. The meat was served with roast potatos, selection of vegetables, 2 cocktail sausages and a lovely homemade yorkshire pudding and a lovely gravy made with the meat juices. It was only after we finished that we thought we should have taken a photo!!Our server said that the 3 meat Sunday lunch is available for a trial period but definitely needs to stay on the menu. We will be back.

I have wanted to visit for such a long time and tonight after inviting our daughter and son in law I was very disappointed! We were shown to our table and just left! No one offered us menus or came to take a drink order!! Other people came in after us and were given menus and drinks orders taken! We had to ask for menus and drinks after sitting waiting for what seemed like an age!! We had to ask what the soup was and told that if we wanted the roast it would be half an hr before they could tell us what the meat was as they had been very busy and had run out and had to put another joint in the oven!! The staff demeanour left a lot to be desired and like they couldn’t be bothered to serve us, like as if they couldn’t wait for home time!! I wanted to have an enjoyable experience as I was hoping to book a large party for my mother in laws significant birthday in December but I’m afraid tonight’s experience has made me think otherwise!

I went here on Saturday night 28th September with my family, in a party of 16. Everything was perfect, service was exceptional and the food was absolutely delicious. The staff couldn’t do enough for us. It was my brothers birthday and they made a special dessert for him and sang with us. I’ve been here for lunch too and that was also brilliant.

Very disappointed with the afternoon tea served at the Scullary. Despite the lovely setting the quality and quantity of the food provided was dismal. The sandwiches were dried up and had been made for some time. They looked unappetizing as the bread was curled, the crusts had been left on and the fillings were poor quality. The scone was obviously shop bought and the cream was not clotted and of a dubious nature with no butter. The 'cakes' were of the Makro/Costco frozen variety. At £15 a head I found this very poor value for money and not of sufficient quantity. I have enjoyed afternoon teas far better at numerous establishments. For such a prestigious place I would expect the chef to make the componants on site and not bought it in

Hurlston Hall is a very nice place. You can see the friuts of the recent huge investment.Food quite good but disappointed by the small plates which are not much larger than side plates. The hot food portions were dismal served by two girls who appeared to wish they were not there. They were just miserable in demeaner. As you know customer service is important and i felt let down by very small portions and no presence of management. Unfortunate that such a nice place was not given justice.

Enjoyed a lovely Mother's Day lunch in the scullery. Food good and atmosphere great. Spoilt at end by a long wait for the bill. Also every table got a bill on a plate with chocolate mints. We got a piece of paper thrown on the table with no mints. Not sure why, perhaps we didn't deserve them! We had spent a fair bit on 3 courses and drinks each so more than many but still no chocolate mints. Just an error on the bill for us. Sadly that resulted in no tip being left.

Had a family meal for six. Table booked in advance and no problem there. Service was friendly and attentive, but not over the top. Food came in good time despite it being quite busy. All had two courses, and most were happy except the people who had the slow cooked brisket, which was almost like an old fashioned potato hash. Anyway, overall a good experience and good food. Not too expensive either.

I have been a few times in the last month or so. Each time I have had a salad. The first time I had the duck and my companion had chicken Caesar. Both were with a good amount of dressing and tasted delicious. The last two times, however, I have had the chicken Caesar and then the Thai chicken salads and both were a bit of a disappointment. There was almost no dressing on each of the salads so they were both dry. The chicken Caesar was fairly tasteless and whilst the Thai chicken pieces was delicious there was almost no dressing on the salad making it very dry. Each could have been served as a wrap which did have dressings - and one of my companions had and said was delicious, but more of this (or at least some) was needed for mine. Another person had a steak pie which she enjoyed. Each time my companions have said they would definitely go back, and it is a lovely setting so I keep returning. But I’ll definitely query the dressings next time!!

This would be a lovely venue for a tiptop restaurant experience for special occasions, housed as it is by a golf course, and far away from the main road. It's also decorated nicely. Sadly, we didn't enjoy our recent pre-Christmas visit, with food missing from the menu, an unhelpful, inexperienced waiter (who didn't know the menu very well, nor how to pronounce the names of the wine), and poorly prepared food when it actually arrived.

Decided to give this place a spin for lunch in roasting day. Location is a little out of the way and you will need to drive. Fantastic views of the gold course and option of sitting inside or outside, in the shade or in the sum. Very clean and the service was excellent. I opted for posh finger butty which came with really nice homemade chips and proper fish. The Mrs opted for steak sandwich which was good but I'd opted for mine choice if/when we return. We had a little one and children's menu offered good value too.

What an absolutely fab place to hold a pow wow of the bridesmaids. There were 6 of us plus 2 little ones so we pre ordered breakfasts for the adults and sausage and mash for the little ones. We arrived in dribs and drabs but were taken straight to our table and offered drinks while we waited for everyone to arrive, they even put colouring books and felts on the table for the kids. The food was absolutely delicious and quite reasonably priced. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff who made sure that our every whim was catered for. The place was spotlessly clean and the views were amazing. Will definitely be recommending this place to all my friends.

Arrived at 10am, having booked a table for the family, we ordered our food not long after. After bringing the wrong food to our table, which they didn’t seem to bothered about, we then waited another half an hour, by this time we had ordered over an hour ago. We then checked where our food was, only to be responded to in a way that was extremely rude, they went to check with the kitchen and our food hadn’t even started to be cooked! They came over to explain that they had run out of eggs and tried to say that we had only ordered half an hour ago, even though tables who had come in a lot later than us were eating their food, that contained eggs. After this terrible experience, I would quite happily say that I will never be going back to this poor excuse of a restaurant, where customer service was the least of their problems. Absolutely terrible.

I have been a member of Hurleston hall leisure club for many years and adore the location, Have been to wonderful weddings and special occasions over the years. However on Saturday we went for tea with friends to the Scullery this must be the fourth time in twelve months the first time it was absolutely delightful then each time we’ve gone since it’s gone downhill! Firstly there weren’t many people in when we entered But we waited over 10 mins for someone to ask what we would like to drink! Food when it arrived looked basic and bland, my husband and my friend ordered desserts, she had ordered Eton mess it was a disgrace, anyhow what really annoyed me there was a guy I think he was the chef with a bushy beard just loose surely in these days of high food standards it should of had a band around it and netted. Ordinarily I would not of written a review like this but they really need to make improvements.

Awful customer service. Short server with dyed blind hair really rude when simply asked for flavours of frappes. Took an interest while drinking our drinks and she was equally obnoxious with 200% of customers. 50% of tables not cleared and floor littered with discarded tissues. Place half empty on a busy market Saturday. 6 other coffee houses within 100 metres. Clearly people voting with their feet Server in question looked hungover, regularly going into back kitchen for 5 minutes breaks leaving a young server alone to cope. Fortunately, not too many customers to worry about. Starbucks next visit I think...
