Costa Coffee in West Lancashire

Awful customer service. Short server with dyed blind hair really rude when simply asked for flavours of frappes. Took an interest while drinking our drinks and she was equally obnoxious with 200% of customers. 50% of tables not cleared and floor littered with discarded tissues. Place half empty on a busy market Saturday. 6 other coffee houses within 100 metres. Clearly people voting with their feet Server in question looked hungover, regularly going into back kitchen for 5 minutes breaks leaving a young server alone to cope. Fortunately, not too many customers to worry about. Starbucks next visit I think...

The woman at the till did not acknowledge me as I went in and carried on the conversation with her co worker. Once I ordered, I went to scan my Costa card then had to change up my card app and got barked at ‘ is it card’ to which I replied I was just scanning my Costa card? Clearly she just wanted to start chatting again. Really unpleasant member of staff.

Horrible staff. Purchased an item from them and asked to use the toilets. The lady behind the till continued to pull faces.

Was waiting for someone, come here to have some coffee, toke 2 roasted sandwiches and cappuccinos costs £18.90 But the coffee spoons and knives were awfully dirty provided by girl on the service tray. Hope this feedback makes them work on hygiene 🤨

Made me queue up for 10 minutes for my ‘birthday treat’ then told me ‘the system is down’ and expected me to pay. Server was unhelpful and didn’t care. Pathetic service and think people have time to waste in their lives

I was first time in this lovely coffee shop and I really like their coffee and millionaire cake 🤤 My friend ordered another cake and it was wonderful too.

Teapots are disgusting and the cups are not much better. They look like they haven't been cleaned in days and is mould in the bottom of the cup. The whole place needs a deep clean and the prices are more expensive than ravenhead business park costa. Would have to think about coming again. It's like me a waste treatment center inside. I wouldn't come if you want a clean decent coffee. 1 Star. (F)

Quick coffee on a Thursday - market day - was very busy and the staff were working very hard. A bit of a wait but only to be expected. tables cleared regularly Coffee and tea usual standard. Plenty of seats .

I went into the Costa in Ormskirk with my wife for a cappuccino . When we ordered and paid I asked the girl serving me if I could have some napkins. She gave me one! I said there are two of us. She said we’re only allowed to give one per order and you’re not even eating! We were eating a small bag of mini muffins we had bought there. Are things that bad that they’re rationing napkins now.? The girl serving was not very helpful at all. I’m not sure if I would go in there again with that attitude from staff.

Relaxed family visit whilst in the area, staff very polite and helpful, coffee and hot chocolate as nice as ever, pleasant visit

Went in for coffee and a quick treat whilst waiting for my son to finish an exam. Service was great and although the cinnamon bun was ever so slightly dry on the outside but perfect in the middle the coffee was fantastic. I travel a lot and go to most coffee chains but I have to say it was by far the best tasting cortado I have ever had. I would have had another but would have possibly been climbing the walls fantastic service and coffee what more can you ask for.

I enjoyed the M&S BLT sandwich however the vanilla coffee latte was poor. Flooded with ice and NO vanilla flavour in any way shape or form. The service level was sloppy to be honest. The atmosphere was chaotic to be honest. A very mediocre outlet. Disgusting toilets and the feel of the place was that it was lethargic. Ormskirk has choice. This Costa wouldn't rate. Sincere apologies for a negative review. Staff training. A deep clean and a major overall urgently needed 😌

I was born in Ormskirk but I've only been back twice in the past 50 years. The first of those was when my daughter attended an open day at Edge Hill University and the second was recently while returning home from Blackpool after a short break with my wife. Ormskirk isn't on the normal route between Blackpool and North Wales but there were roadworks on the M6 and we were in no rush so we decided to take to take the scenic route. By the time we stopped off for a short walk around Ormskirk the weather was starting to take a turn for the worse so as it was a bit miserable we decided a hot drink was in order. My wife doesn't like Starbucks so we headed to Costa. It was quite busy for a rainy Monday morning but we found a clean table and got served quickly enough. Our coffees were nice enough and we also enjoyed a small pack of biscuits. In all it was a short but not unpleasant visit.

Usual costa food and drink and usual costa smelly toilets. The toilets in every costa are a disgrace and this was no exception. Let's go back to ladies and gents toilets then at least the ladies might stand a chance. Costa need to sort this

Got myself a take out cup of tea from here a couple of weeks ago. The drink was very nice and the staff were friendly and attentive. The place looked to be pretty well kept and the toilet was nice and clean. Only disadvantage is that the interior of this place is not the biggest, meaning that there are not a lot of tables (some of this is due to social distancing requirements). Having said that, there is a fair bit of seating outside, although I appreciate that the Great British weather doesn't always hold up so sometimes the outside area may not be usable! Other than that, I can't complain really. Would recommend!

Kids wanted chocolate orange hot chocolate as sounds lovely on advert.Price for 1 small one £3,50 .we didnt get drinks as kids ones so expensive even for takeout to drink on cold street. They did not enjoy them and said a very small basic drink with a sqirt of a chemical type syrup! The place has been soulless for yrs with no rapport with most staff.The manager should train staff to be friendly and themselves.The odd staff member over the yrs has been friendly. However this is just due to them being nice people and nothing to do with the place itself. Cleaning is abysmal and borderline a health and safety issue. I have been going to McDonald's all through lockdown for my takeaway coffee at £1,49! Just as good coffee. Attracts a cross section of people although a generally older crowd than Starbucks. Many older people who look so lonely sitting on their own ,i very rarely have seen the staff making conversation with them. After lockdown i will try to avoid this place and spend our hard earned money more wisely.

You either like coffee or not if not dont go, simple.

We visited yesterday afternoon, joined a queue of approximately 4 people and waited about 20 minutes. The ruby hot chocolate had no sprinkles on top, the gingerbread hot chocolate no gingerbread man and my flat white was just about warm by the time we'd waited for the 2nd hot chocolate. Didnt ask if I had a loyalty card and when I did ask if the costa app on my phone could be scanned I was told it was too late, the only efficient part of the service, really poor customer service, I wont be returning.

Staff need training how to treat the elderly in our community! Rude and unpleasant experience. I am constantly having to listen to the attitude of one member of staff bark orders at customers, making customers move seats or telling them to leave if they sit on a table designated for 4 people but they are 2 because the tables too big but no others available! We are all adults here you don’t have to tell me consistently to stand on the spot that I am standing on already! Today making an elderly couple leave the premises because they didn’t have a phone suitable to use the track and trace system was disgraceful! The staff member who is clearly on a power trip making them leave without a coffee! This could have been the one time a week they left their house! If people do not have the app you are required to take their details personally by paper to be contacted! This was clearly too much trouble and the staff member was more than happy to ruin this couples day! Imagine this was your elderly relatives! The manager sat and watched as other people told them this was uncalled for! Train your staff correctly and treat the elderly in our community with some respect! I won’t be returning.

The staff (Christine) in particular dealt very well with an unreasonable customer who was abusive towards her and I’d like her to get some recognition for her patience and professionalism

Dealt with a rude customer really well, ran the store with only 3 members of staff and provided great prompt service.

Well I was left gobsmacked today, my daughter and myself went to costa for a bite to eat and a coffee now there where a few empty tables so we picked a table to sit at, straightaway a staff member asked us how many and i said two. I'm sorry but we have no tables for two he said. Looking round I asked cant we sit at a 4 table and was informed no they are for 4 people, so I asked what now and he said we would have to leave.😤. So your custom is only welcome if your more than 2 persons. I am disgusted by this, and will never go there again. Shame on you Costa talk about money grabbing.....

Toasted teacake tasted like garlic and the queue was that long I didn't have time to ask for another 😞

I like a dry Cortado and find that it varies depending on which Costa you visit - not in this Costa! Always a properly dry, hot, strong Cortado, unlike the cool, latte-like so-called Cortados served elsewhere.However, the main reason for this review is the confidence you get from visiting this cafe - a polite, efficient young lady constantly cleaning the tables and directing customers to a suitable, socially distanced table. It can be a difficult task as not all customers understand why they are being asked not to sit where they want, but where she wants them to sit, but she is polite and pleasant at all times and makes such a difference. It must add to the running expenses of the shop to have someone taking care of the customers all day, but it is very reassuring. Congratulations to the management and staff.

Great to see Costa Ormskirk open again after lockdown and still the same smiling happy helpful staff. What a difference Sam has made since returning to this store, he makes a great coffee looks after his staff and always chatty to his customers. What more could you want we couldn’t manage the day without our Costa skinny latte extra hot ☕️

The food is the same as all branches, it is what it is. The coffee is great though! I much prefer costa to Starbucks around the corner. The big guy working there makes a great latte

Visited today for family drinks. Chocolate cold and foul, dire coffee... avoid if you can. Truly awful.

Always busy but baristas work well with the volume of people. Always happy and chatty to customers. Great little Costa!

I have to say Costa is the best place for me to enjoy a coffee and cake whenever I venture out and to be sure of absolute consistency - Costa delivers excellence every time. I don't know who interviews them for their jobs but they seem to be a special kind of people. Always friendly - always eager to please - always awesome food.

Boy has it gone downhill. Seats are too high for tables or tables too low! Uncomfortable - not wanting to stay any longer than necessary. Food choices so limited now - not worth the premium prices. Especially with all comfier, tastier welcoming eating/drinking establishments in the area. Good luck fighting off your opponents. Buck up or move on. (Most of the above applies to other branches so must be the way it’s going - downhill!)

Nice relaxing atmosphere, lovely staff, great coffee, delicious sandwiches and cakes, the lemon tarts are especially good.

Can't beat a Costa coffee. Not over crowded and staff are always polite and helpful. Great selection of drinks.

Lovely relaxed atmosphere and Emma who I was served by, had a forthcoming and pleasant manner of which I thought reflected a good level of professionalism. I had a pot of Earl Grey tea, of which had the right temperature of boiled water and that combinated with good teabags and fresh milk, made for two lovely tasting cups of tea. At £2.10 I thought it was great value for money and I was impressed by the quality of the service from all the staff.I will definitely be coming back here again.

I needed a cold coffee drink and told the barista that I didn’t want a sweet drink, so he made me his own version and said if I didn’t like it he’d make me another drink! It was similar to an Americano but different and was very enjoyable, as was the Lemmon muffin I had with it. Top marks to him.

Always nice to stop off for a coffee and a cake. The coconut latte is our favorite and always has a good selection of cakes.

Been here twice recently. Both times had to take the cups back as they were filthy. At one visit they had to use a take away cup as they didn't have any clean cups. Even the teapot was filthy. Never going there again. Doesn't rate any stars.

Excellent toast and jam plus coffee. Just filled the gap after a swim. Recommended for sure. Pop in and eat inside or outside on a nice day. Great place.

Has anyone else noticed that if you don’t use the Costa app for a while it logs you out. So there you are, finally at the head of a long queue and you go to scan your app but it doesn’t work because you have been automatically logged out - very frustrating!However, on the old app, before the new one came along with the ordering service, you could quickly and easily report a lack of points added and the issue would be dealt with efficiently which was a great experience.Now, however, there is no easy way! Firstly the store finder doesn’t always work (it won’t find the store in Heathrow T5 for example - all the others but not that one!) then you have to complete a reason for your complaint (fine) but then it asks you to put in your personal details like name and number and Costa card number.Two things - you didn’t need to do that with the old app as it recognised you and most importantly how are you supposed to get and remember the very long card number to enter it into the form?So, I’ve gone from a Costa fan to someone questioning why my excellent user experience has been flushed down the toilet by Costa themselves!!For those of us that use the app to give feedback on the experience the new app doesn’t work!So as I never pre-order my coffee the new app is worthless to me - I’m going back to carrying my Costa card as it doesn’t log me out automatically, it doesn’t need a ridiculously complicated password and I can always easily see what my card number is.Costa you really have got the app very wrong!

My husband and I sometimes pop into here after we have been around the market which is on Thursdays and Saturday. We have noticed this Costa is getting a bit shabby and not very clean in the toilet. I have in the past told one of the young men behind the counter but not much has changed since our last visit.

Visited on a cold sunday and it was extremely busy. Surprising as the town was deserted. Waited in the queue for 12 minutes before order was taken and another 6 for the drinks (2 americanos) to be made. What few tables were free, were piled high with cups and plates collected from other tables, and one memeber of staff was running around trying to tidy them, tend the dishwasher, replenish stocks behind the counter and be a general runner for the barista who is apparently superglued to the floor in front of the machine; which perhaps accounts for the surly attitude towards customers waiting in the queue. Coffee was so so.

There are many different meanings behind a name. Of course, every true Costa fan knows that Costa Coffee is named after Bruno and Sergio Costa who created such amazing blends of coffee and started selling to businesses in the UK (I didn't just plagiarise this from their website).The owners might have also thought a little comedy goes a long way, providing aspiring comics to pass their establishment and mutter the phrase, ‘That looks expensive, I bet it Costa lot to drink in there...’ Oh how wrong they are. Who can put a price on happiness? And who knew Ormskirk cold hold such a gem?I only have one question for you, are all the Baristas that work at Costa called Sam?! The name Sam makes me dream of wide open spaces and beauty, tranquillity and laughter, hugs and staff discount.Originally, the name Sam has many different meanings. The one from the Hebrew, ‘bright Sun’ seems most appropriate for that was how my day was made after being greeted so warmly and refreshingly.Coincidently, in the military the name Sam conveys power and strength and is an acronym for Surface-to-Air Missile. Such ferocity and might seems appropriate to the storm that Sam conjured up in a small one shot Mocha with extra chocolate powder.After being served I noticing that Sam was wearing a badge entitled Assistant Manager. I started to wonder why this wonderful man still had Assistant in his job title. Was it a reflection of his helpful an caring character? At that moment I knew the true meaning of the name Sam…Should(be)-A-Manager.It makes perfect sense. I plead for the hierarchy of Costa to take notice. I shall leave it at this.#peaceout

Always a lovely welcome at this branch of Costa. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the coffee and cakes are great.

I didn't. Until Sunday. Ventured in for some coffee and breakfast and we got SO much more than just a napkin with our croissants. The staff were extremely friendly - we received hugs upon arrival (beat that Starbucks). Although I think the Barista was just trying to widen his social circle... We were engaged in humorous conversation from the start and blown away by the mad latte art skills Sam (the better looking Barista) had. We highly appreciated the time they took to make our drinks so instagrammable - but not enough to instagram them before drinking... mild caffeine addiction does this i'm told. Our food was heated to perfection and our drinks were perfect drinking temperature - good work Sam. We felt highly valued as customers by Sam no.2 and the service was 10/10 - Can he get a pay rise from this review? When we left, we were caffeine fuelled, content and highly satisfied customers - we'll be back next Saturday, probably. Unless Sam isn't working.. then we'll have to reconsider.

Due to living in ormskirk I visit costa fairly regularly and I have never had a reason to complain! The team are friendly and helpful and willing to cater for any needs! Always service with a smile! Coffees are brilliant and you can see the pride that goes into the latte art on a flat white!I can't really make a comment about the food etc as it's not unique to ormskirk and this is a review about the brilliant and friendly service I always receive (saying that, I do love a panini)

Tropical cooler was poor. Manager seemed a bit miserable when I asked to change it for something else but oh well, we all have off days. The replacement coffee was really nice. I go in Costa a lot but in Wigan so this was the first one I'd been to elsewhere for a little while. They had upstairs seating which I liked and the toilets looked clean.

Love a visit to Costa Ormskirk . Staff are friendly and always remember us. Sad that they are so over worked and clearly struggle to keep tables clean. I get annoyed with companies that don't value their staff

Staff are lovely but the coffee was awful this was my third visit thinking the other times might have been a sort of one off to find it wasn't ordered a latte just tasted of milk and water I've always ordered lattes and have always tasted coffee . Hate that I always feel squashed there too . Think I'll stick to Starbucks in future

Always busy, staff recognise regular customers and are very friendly. We usually place an order of around 8 drinks for takeout, never an issue with our order.

A very well run establishment, always busy, if you want your coffee extra hot they give you your coffee extra hot, just need to improve their table clearance

I bought a Danish Pastry to go this morning. It was the worst one I have ever had and I can only assume it had been left over from Christmas, it was so dry and hard. Not cheap and money wasted as I threw it away.

A quiet afternoon visit during shopping and an enjoyable cappuccino and a free piece of Merry Berry cake. The staff were very pleasant and always give a nice welcome to customers. On this visit two of them were quite chatty whilst they made our drinks. I passed the time reading one of their newspapers as I enjoyed my coffee.

Usual Costa Coffee, everything ok but anything to eat is horrendously expensive for what you get. Enjoy the coffee but avoid the food!

I came here today for a cup of tea and a toasted sandwich. We struggled to find a clean table and ended up sitting at a dirty table littered with dirty crockery and I had to ask for it to be cleared and cleaned. Our toasted sandwiches were ready long before our drinks and were cold by the time I was able to sit and eat. Our cup of tea and hot chocolate took such a long time to prepare even though the place wasn't really busy. The barista offered to replace our sandwiches for fresh ones but we were starving and just needed to eat. My cheese and tomato sandwich was a bit dry; very little tomato. Over priced too.

A very nice place where you can always expect good coffee! It always appears busy when we go but staff make time to share a few words with most customers. This is a regular place we visit.

Usual standard of costa coffee, but the location is dead centre and the staff worked well as a team taking and preparing orders effectively.

nothing stands out at this costa the few times we have visited it is always the same having to clear a table of used cups and saucers to find a table but that appears the norm at costa lately

I visited Costa Coffee to have a meeting during May, the coffee was good quality as usual but the café was far to noisy to have a meeting due to the coffee machines and children.In the future I will be going to a more relaxed cafe when on business.

I have been visiting here for years and find that it is nearly always busy and have to queue. Staff always acknowledge you and work together to serve you that little bit quicker than the one around the corner. My only gripe is that I do not like their skinny cappuccino's not sure why it different from their competitors! I do like their Costa card as you can save up to use at a later date. I also like the fact they provide morning newspapers to read and that you can only have an hours access to their Internet, preventing people from spending all morning with one drink doing work on their computer at a table for 4, which I have seen elsewhere.

Good place to get a coffee and relax, either to take away or stay in. Food is all overpriced though. Gets very busy but plenty of seats over 2 floors

Costa coffee in Ormskirk is just great. I am in every day not only for my fix of caffeine but also because of the way the staff treat you. They are all great and nothing is to much trouble, they treat you like an old friend. The best coffee break anybody could ask for!

We do our Saturday morning shop in Ormskirk and always finish with a coffee and snack at Costa it is always very busy I am not the biggest fan of Costa but the coffee saved at this particular branch is good
