Not been to a Toby in years.. I was early 20s last time so maybe a bit naive. Our greeting was great? Delivered to a table but having not been for such a long time was left feeling unsure on how to order/pay/collect food and had to go and explain and ask 'how it works'. Drink were prompt. Meat was nice veg maybe a bit over cooked. Atmosphere was not bad.. Tuesday afternoon, big venue, oldies getting lunch etc.. some background music would've maybe distracted from Janice's toy boy or how they don't use textbooks in school but it was some light entertainment if nothing else. Wheelchair accessible, clean environment no major gripes and would visit again

Great spot for food. Everyone really enjoyed their food and it was a great experience. Plenty of choice, nice selection of all of your roast dinner favourites and everything was cooked cooked well. Ewan was really helpful but also a big thank you to the whole team

Wasn’t expecting much but wow! Service - Waited at the entrance to be seen, 5 members of staff to busy taking to each other or looking at phones, finally shown to a table & had to ask myself if it’s table service. Hygiene - How they even have a Hygiene rating is beyond me! Seats ripped & filthy, sticky tables. The hot lamps covered in food, hair and god knows what else. More amusing is the carvery itself has no glass to stop people coughing & sneezing all over the food that has been sat under a heat lamp all day. It’s literally the perfect environment to culture the next pandemic! Menu had mediocre options, definitely wasn’t going to order the carvery, didn’t feel like contracting herpes, I chose the Mac & Cheese Yorkshire wrap, only to then be told 10 minutes later they didn’t have any wraps. I did chuckle when they listed Heinz soup for £4.50, you can’t make a tomato soup? Kids food arrived, sausages could be classed as a lethal weapon, potato’s stuck to the plate and the Yorkshire pudding was stone cold. Short summary - Go to McDonald’s

Greeted on arrival pub seemed nice and clean on entrance, how ever we were shown to table in an anti-room that I can only describe as 1960’s working men’s club. Cold, dreary, mismatched furniture, ripped chairs, chunks of veneer missing of tables and a lovely sheen of unclean on the tables, knives and forks also had grimy feel of not clean. Went to collect our food and drinks. Drink station dirty, selected carvery meats that where lovingly slapped on our plates by some one who really didn’t love his job, plates also had the unclean feel, rough to the touch probably caused by a dirty overloaded dishwasher or steamer. Vegetables well carrots looked like they had been dehydrated, peas as hard as bullets, soggy parsnips and roasties. Next gravy and sauce station wow complete mess sauce and gravy slopped everywhere, none of the sauces marked as to what they might be and lots of double dipping. Finally in for a penny in for a pound plus the fact I was hungry because most of the carvery was inedible we ordered desert. Now you would think there’s not much damage you can do to a caterers Fudge cake how wrong you would be it had been nuked to the point it could of spontaneously combusted luckily the ice cream was edible. Will we go back to this carvery never, there’s much better In Aintree and St helens

On entering the pub looked clean, greeted by a server and shown to our table and that is where everything changed. Our table was in a grubby side room opposite the toilets. The room was cold, carpet dirty, chairs looked like they had been picked up from the local recycling centre, table stained and chunks missing from the veneer (lovely), could of given prison canteen a run for its money. Ordered drinks and food and went up to collect carvery, you could feel the food remains from the dishwasher on your plate, the server (man) lovingly slapped some meats on my plate, helped myself to veg , peas reminiscent of bullets, carrots look like they had come out of the dehydrator, parsnips soggy, roasties greasy. Everything unbelievably under seasoned. Gravy station, nothing was labelled, sauces splattered everywhere, dirty spoons. Everything just looked like no one really cared. Bare in mind you can get a good roast dinner in most pubs for £15 with service. Took food back to our prison canteen. Food was meh that’s about the nicest thing I can say about it. Foolishly ordered dessert, well in for a penny and all that, chocolate fudge cake had been lovingly zapped to the point just before it bursts into flames. Well that was my 1st and last experience, I believe Aintree is much nicer but think I’ll just skip it unless I feel the urge to eat prison canteen food. Have to say staff where lovely all very young and probably earning a pittance

Nice atmosphere and good drinks meat wasn’t great but okay

We visit here a lot and rarely get anything other than an excellent meal and good value for money. We received an email for half price mid week roast so had to go. Great meal and a bargain. Roast pork is now a regular choice, and the best in my opinion, and a great selection of well cooked veg, great roasties and the best mash out there. My only slight disappointment was the gravy being too thin. With being busy everything was turning over quickly, and replaced quickly, so all the food was nice and hot. Staff usually friendly here, young lad who served us was a delight. Thank you

I went tonight with family. As usual everyone was really helpful and kind. Keely helped carry our dinner and due to how busy it was Alyssa queued to get another carvery for us that we were taking away. We sat in the bar area and all of the barstaff were great too. X

Meat was a bit fatty but I don’t know what you’d really expect. Service was fantastic and the atmosphere was nice. Would go again.

Nice and chill atmosphere, booths so comfy it healed my sciatica. Food was an out of body experience. Staff were all sound. Excellent service 10/10.

Very poor cold over cooked food

We have always travelled the 40 min from home to eat here as we've always had the best carvery experience. Today was terrible , we went to get served at about 12.20 pm the dining area probably had 3 couples in it so when we saw the dried out/well carved meat on a lot of the roasts we were shocked. We then realised they had to be yesterday's left overs as the turkey and lamb had so much meat missing the carcass was showing surrounded by dry meat. My husband said the beef was terribly dry it was only the Gammon that was tender. Some of the veggies looked like they were yesterday's too. We were so disappointed so will definitely try somewhere else in future.

I wish I could put a picture on. absolutely awful. I asked for gammon and beef. I got fat and rough ends of gammon. The cauliflower cheese, had no cheese. the mash potato was a block of potato. I threw it straight in the bin. :( should be no star, but doesn't allow you too.

Food OK but the plates were disgusting. I appreciate it's a busy period but you know if plates are clean or not before putting them out to use. I must have gone through at least a dozen before I picked the cleanest of the bunch. Numerous people were complaining about the same thing!

Where to start. Shown to are seats and where told someone would be over to take our drinks order, after 15 minutes I went to the bar and ordered a pint of bitter and a glass of lager shandy. I got a pint of shandy that had soda water not lemonade in it. FOOD. There was no lamb or beef left, so made do with turkey and pork, both were dry and tuff. All the vegetables that were left were over cooked and cold. I also had to ask for some gravy and other sauces as there was none left. It was 4.45 in the evening and was VERY quiet. Over all it was rubbish.

THE WORST FOOD I HAVE HAD IN A LONG TIME. I arrived on Saturday 14/12/24 and we where shown to our seat, after 15 minutes waiting for someone to take our drinks order i gave up and order at the bar. Ordered a pint of bitter and a glass of shandy, got a pint of shandy when my wife started to drink It, she said it tasted funny. They had put soda water in it not lemonade. FOOD. Went for carvery and was told that beef and lamb wouldn't be ready for 15 minutes, so made do with turkey and pork. All the vegetables where over cooked and cold. I had to ask for gravy and other sauces as there was none out. Over all the meal was rubbish. I will not be going to this Tobys again.

We had a really lovely meal! Carvery was so good! Meat was cooked really well and portions are generous! Good selection of vegetables too. Service was really friendly and efficient. Thea had a lovely manner and took good care of us! Would definitely recommend. Nice warm atmosphere, really good food, really friendly and welcoming staff!

Ordered a breakfast from here, missing items!! Told to contact uber eats. Woman was rude on the phone and put the phone down on me. Incapable of asking the 'chef' to not put mushrooms on it. Food freezing cold. Delivery lady was nice. £12 for 2 sausages, 2 bacon , spoonful of beans and a load of mushrooms all slopped into a container. Gross.

The price of the carvery is fantastic u coudnt cook it at home the the price u charge. don't think u should beable to go back for 2nds.saw guy getting 2nds then ask for take away box. He also put in some he left from 1st meal. This is not right .but some people are greedy . But great place .will definitely be going back again xx thanks guy's.

Went for breakfast today - very disappointed because we've been there a couple of times for a carvery meal and its been ok. The food was lukewarm and we had to wait about 5 minutes for fried eggs (which were undercooked) and baked beans. As soon as we sat down we noticed more people queuing for food and this time it turned out to be bacon! The place is very badly run with no one keeping an eye on the food to anticipate running out of anything. The coffee is also poor compered to Wetherspoons (where we normally go for breakfast). Overall it is quite a bit more expensive than Wetherspoons and the food quality and service in our opinion falls a long way short. I think the only reason why you would accept these lower standards would be if you were more bothered about the quantity rather than quality since you can go back for more food as often as you wish.

Had a roast on Sunday. Had the wild shites Monday morning. Had a pint of carling which was flat as a witches tit. asked to change the pint and second one was the same no gas .staff where not interested. Never go there again.

Breakfast-everything was dried out and burnt. Bacon dried up, black pudding like wood. potatoes overcooked. beans dried up. Coffee removed before both of us could top up.. Look after your food an customer's.

Online says is open until 10pm, went in at 9:03pm and was told tills are off and so not serving anymore. Disappointing, only wanted a dessert 😢

Upon arrival for breakfast,we noticed that the plates and cups were not cleaned properly and felt grubby underneath. This is the second time that we have experienced this at this restaurant. We thought that it might have been a one off the first time that this happened but unfortunately not. Some of the food was either overcooked and burnt or looked awful. We even overheard other customers dining in the restaurant complaining amongst themselves about how awful and disgusting the food was and looked. The only good thing about our visit was the coffee ☕️. SOMETHING NEEDS DRASTICALLY CHANGING THIS WAS OUR WORST EXPERIENCE EVER AT THIS LOCATION !!!!! Time to find a new place for Sunday breakfast I think. ☹️👎

Worst roast I've had and thats an understatement. Everything was cold and undercooked.

Order was placed 6.26. Was told delivery time was between 6:50 and 7:15. Arrived 7:30. Received everything we said we didnt want. Asked for no stuffing, no gravy. Received both. Received no cauliflower cheese. Received 1 mushed up roast potato.

The best carvery I have ever had !! I had the turkey and the pork and the turkey was tender and moist and the pork had amazing flavour . Ella gave us the best service with a smile . I will definitely return :)

Went during an offer for £6.00 carvery, not overly busy but queued an hour for food. Meal was ok, just had turkey as other meats were almost down to scraps. Had to wait in a line for about 10 minutes to pay as everyone in front were paying individually using a qr code off their phones. Staff were great though, couldn't apologise enough for all the delays.

Sunday and waiting for a table but we were told that we should have booked a table. In queue for 10 minutes then informed to accept a bar table which we did but no service. Waited again before finding out ourselves to go to queue. Queue very long and busy. Lots of people gaining takeaways which made waiting for service long. Food was not very warm. Food was not very nice. We had to obtain our own cutlery. Dining room and bar were overcome with noise and noisy kids. Not a nice meal or place to go to have one.

A decent roast. Staff very friendly and helpful. One member of staff went out of her way to help me resolve a minor issue. Could not have responded better.

The second visit to this carvery. I will not go again it was an absolute shambles. We queued for the carvery for at least 20 mins. one girl serving with little or no support. When the Turkey needed replacing she disappeared for several mins to get a replacement everything stopped. When we were finally served no vegetables. The gravy had large lumps in from undissolved gravy granules. The food was ok. The When we left, the queue was even longer where was the manager ? the staff were trying their best but needed support. Fortunately Formby Toby is available which I will frequent in future.

One of the worst dining experiences I’ve ever had, upon arrival the knife and fork on out table still had food on it, when we told the waitress she simply just wiped them and brought the same knife and fork back, the carver was unbelievably rude and just rolled her eyes when I asked if I could have the fresh meat instead of the one which had been out all day, Yorkshire puddings was like bricks, and plates was filthy underneath (still had traces of dried up food on) I felt uncomfortable paying £45 for 3 untouched carvery’s and 3 drinks but didn’t want to complain to the young waitress as she clearly had no help and wasn’t very experienced. Avoid at all costs Shocking experience
