My girlfriend went to this pub this evening,, she was in here most of the night but left to go somewhere else, ended up coming back and was told by 1 door man to provide id, she did so, the man said the id was fake (it wasnt) gave her friends back to her but refused to give my girlfriends id back, after my girlfriend asked politely to have hers back because he gave it to her friend, another door man came outside and picked her up, and removed her from the area while the other cut up her id while laughing at her, several laws broken here including the data protection act as a legal document was destroyed by a third party and also the criminal damage act, as well as several SIA code of conduct breaches and both men involved deserve to have their SIA licenses removed and fired from the establishment

Great little place. Enjoyed our Friday evening here.

Good pub..prices excellent...can get a pork pie in the market and eat it in the pub!

Don't work for this place. They exploit students and actively do not pay their staff. Just sack and rehire and don't pay, as for a student there not worth taking to court. I know of 4 students who have worked here on a part time basis and been sacked for no reason and no pay. One time my friend went in an hour early as they were busy, the boss came in 3 hours late and because my friend was having a smoke he sacked her on the spot. DO NOT WORK HERE.

Heard a rumour that one of my favourite local eateries was in new hands these days. So I popped in to see if my friends Liv and Lennie were still there. But they've moved on now, so I thought I'd test out their replacements. And I'm very glad I did too. I'm thinking that the people of Rainford must be particularly patient, because I was greeted by a very happy young manager named Ben, and we had a proper good old chat. Not just a cursory "how do you do" exchange, but a real good old fashioned natter, before he told me about our new chef Lewis, and then introduced me to young Zoe, who looked after me beautifully for the rest of the afternoon. And I realised, I hadn't had a simple good old fashioned cheeseburger for over two years now, so Zoe brought me a delightfully filling burger with a side order of sweet potato fries. It was delicious. Every bit as good as I remembered it. Maybe the staff might change and the management might be different, but the smiles are just as warm and the food is just as gorgeous. I'm glad I tried the new Golden Lion out. It's still amazing. I'll be checking it out again next month too. FIVE STARS PLUS ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐(+) #Excellent

We visited on a Saturday so it was quite full, typical pub atmosphere, only had drinks

I was assaulted by the doormen after one of our group had a miss understanding with the DJ (apparently speaking loud in a pub with extremely loud music is aggressive nowadays), bouncers we’re very quick to get aggressive (looking for a fight) unexpected behaviour from the doormen and a very touchy DJ.

Decent pub with a lively atmosphere. Karaoke on Friday nights usually brings in a good crowd. Good range of drinks.

Good Real Ale Served Albeit a tad expensive

Pub means public house to deny toilet service to the public is against the human right to sanitation There are so many questions What if there happens to be a person with poor mobility who has a colostomy bag What about a person with a child who is desperate for the toilet.... 🙄🙄 I guess this place is the golden Karen

Disgraceful need to sort out to door staff

If you are a breastfeeding woman, do not visit, even for a coffee. I was told to cover up myself while breastfeeding my newborn as it was a man’s pub, it was inappropriate and no one wants to see that. I don’t know how I could cover myself anymore when I had a button down blouse on. I was told to cover myself with a blanket. I was told “this is a man’s pub”. I am absolutely so disgusted and upset, especially as breastfeeding publicly is protected by law. Another gentleman in the pub said I don’t mind at all, it’s natural and doesn’t bother me, but the rude barmaid insisted I cover up. I felt utterly humiliated and upset. I would not recommend here for women, or anyone who respects equality. My husband asked to have a quiet word with her and was immediately met with “it’s my pub and I’ll decide what happens and what people can do”. She then referenced saying “if I don’t want a dog in my pub I don’t have to”. I will assume the woman was the landlady, an older woman with blonde hair. So not only did she humiliate me, but she also insulted me. An absolute disgrace to Greene King pubs.

Cracking pub .. really good atmosphere.. lovely bar staff.. loads of room.. televisions. An the price's are very reasonable. Can't fault the place, definitely a place to be.

Located in the heart of ormskirk. Friendly pub . Does not serve for now . No bed and breakfast anymore.

Midweek lunch date with my friend. Spotlessly clean restaurant. The staff were attentive without being overbearing. The food was absolutely DELICIOUS. We spent about 2.5hrs here and we weren't rushed out, it was a lovely afternoon in a delightful location.

Popped in here for a drink, with a friend. While there we decided to order some food. It was absolutely delicious and very well presented. It's a Nice little pub with a lovely atmosphere and the staff are very friendly and helpful. Will definitely be visiting again soon.

Awful place wet floors from dogs drinking water or so I was told but it wasn't not cleaned up. Causing a health and safety hazard. I slipped in this puddle. Hurting my knee. The puddle was there when I arrived and was still there approx an hr till I slipped in it. Just glad it wasn't a more elderly person who could have broken a hip . The food awful fish very greasy unable to eat probably from the shock of the fall but still didn't look an apetizing meal. Would I go back? No!

Always been a great pub with lots of history in a historic town...food and beer and service always excellent times just moved on a little new menu and excellent eat in or take a away home cooked foods and delicious sweet menu already prepared and in the fridge cheese cake the best...👍

Here with girlfriends - all golden oldies. Interior gorgeous, staff delightful and food absolutely deeelish. Social distancing very well organised. Toilets excellent.

Tried this evening and very pleased. The refurb is excellent and looks very classy inside, definitely somewhere to come as a couple or large bookings as there were plenty of table sizes available. I especially liked how there was a big bar area for drinks/food, alternatively from the more formal dining area. We had the cheesy garlic bread to share which was amazing, followed by steak pie. The only thing I would suggest (if mistaken and missed), would be hand dryer’s in the toilet.

Nice pub. Good central-ish location in the town (Given the town is so small any place is virtually central-ish) Very interesting decor and style choices made everywhere in the pub. The food looks very good (But we didn't eat on our visit) and varied.

Stayed here for 3 nights. Staff friendly and welcoming, the room was nice and the beds were comfortable. We were in a twin room right next to two bathrooms. As the room was at the back of the establishment, we did not here much noise from below. Will be staying here again.

Dropped in here recently with a “pile” of mates and had a few very enjoyable pints of Tetley’s cask bitter. Service, atmosphere and beer all excellent, I am pleased to be able to report. Although We did not have anything to eat the food which was constantly passing by our table between kitchen and other clients’ mouths looked appetising and generous - I will work up an appetite for my next visit!

Would not recommend this place order starter and main meals was told meal would be 25 minutes expected starters to be served within that time 45 minutes later starters came while eating this was informed that they had no pepper sauce to go with steaks was offered another saucewhich I had not heard of staff didn't know what it was ended up having to have gravy when this arrived gravy was so thick it would not pour from jug on order I asked for steaks to be welcomed with no fat was told that this had been put on order after waiting for 1 hour to eat steak was fatty gravy had to be sent back asked for no salad on 1 meal both came with salad which was all bad enough not one staff member came to ask if food was ok and then I find there is a 5star food rating stuck in the window I would not recommend this to anyone

Went for lunch yesterday (Thursday) while out in Ormskirk. There were four of us so we got the 2 for £10 meals, which were really good! Shame there was no rice or lasagne available, but we did get extra chips :)

We came here to watch the England vs Croatia game in the world cup semi final in July 2018. The pub us a quaint , prices are reasonable. We found the bar staff to be helpful , and we got served very quickly. Is isn't the trendiest of place but nice for a white pint.

Great pub, wether you're after a snack or just a drink it's spot on. Good for the sports aswell. Tv's everywhere you can't miss the footy.

What a dump was only in the bar but that was enough place looked tired and scruffy I am a real ale drinker and the pint they served was like dish water had 2 sips and left it and left the pub glad to get out in the fresh air

Visited on Saturday with my family the meals where great service was great and the manager liam was really friendly and couldn't have done enough worth a visit some of the other staff could have done with smiling but apart from that really enjoyed it.

This is a market town, has a steady clientele which gives the pub a vibrant feel. The decor is modern, plenty of seats. Great pit stop... cheap food available. We were on a drinking mission this time so never ate here, but have had a sharing platter in the past which was reasonably priced as I recall.

Very noisy, hard to sleep, no ensuite, basic cooked breakfast. Staff very friendly though
