Quick delivery for the lads doing a re-fit on the bar

You know what you're getting with a Holt pub. At least that was my last review.. it's getting ideas above it's station now though, what used to be pie, chips and peas, is now, pie, chips, garlic buttered greens, and a red wine and thyme jus. The food is still okay, but frankly it isn't special anymore. I had a better burger at The Duke outside Southport the other day. Staff are still lovely though. Previous review continues below.. this is what it used to be like.. ..Good food with no short measures. But what sets this location apart is the warm welcome from the friendly staff. Unfortunately I was too full after the ultimate burger to partake in the desserts but I watched on with envy as a nearby table took delivery of I've cream sundaes to die for.

As we sat down, we heard somebody aay - we won't be back - the menu is too restrictive ! Have to agree on the menu side -poor offerings. But the food was OK-if your on a limited budget -then a roast dinner here is for you. Service was ok -staff seemed a little uninterested. Tried it now -won't rush back unfortunately.

This used to be one of the best places to eat in Ormskirk. However the recent menu change looks to me to be head office cost cutting ruining a good pub. The quality of the food has plummeted, the menu has been cut in half, and since it's all the same great staff and management, I can't imagine the blame lies with them

I’m a regular here but they’ve changed the menu and it’s a little too posh now. There’s nothing me or any of my family will eat now. Just got a drink and left without eating. It’s a shame they’ve changed the menu.

We have been to the Hayfield many times, both to eat and just for a drink. We are quite hard to please but this place is spot on in all respects. The food is delicious, the staff are attentive and polite and the atmosphere is great. We couldn’t hope for a better local (and we would make the effort to travel here if we weren’t so lucky to have it on our doorstep).

Absolutely lovely pub. Fabulous quality food. The team are friendly & welcoming! Beautiful fish! And best of all coke on draft not Pepsi! Winner! Happy to call it ‘our local’ !

Popped in here Sunday afternoon place was busy pleasant atmosphere I presume with the local community. Moving on to the food then it went downhill I had the Sunday roast the roast potatoes had been microwaved. My wife had cheese and onion pie which had most certainly been microwaved it was nuclear hot in the middle, the chips were overcooked and the portion of beans were dry. Would I go back there again definitely not

I have been to this establishment before to eat, but I have never been for a Christmas lunch. I had the garlic mushrooms with garlic bread, turkey dinner with all the trimmings and the lemon tirimasu for dessert. Only criticism was that my turkey was dry but couldn't fault the rest of my meal. Good portions, good atmosphere and a good price, will definitely be returning for another meal.

Had the Christmas menu for a family get together. Jess and the team were great, nothing was too much trouble. Despite the variety of orders, no mistakes, reasonable waiting time and the food was good quality, well cooked and good portions. The steak pie was mahoosive and the Braemar Chicken was something different and delicious. We have already booked for next year.

Great place . We go to curry Thursdays especially . Its relaxing and well run . Great menu too with good range of food and drink. Never a long wait and staff are efficient and friendly , you soon feel like a regular 😀.

Have been several times over the last year or so with family. Absolutely fantastic each time. The food is really lovely and very reasonable. It’s always bouncing with a good atmosphere. The staff are all great and the decor and ambience is lovely and cosy. Sunday lunch is always delicious one of best in the area for a really reasonable price. Good choice on menu too.

Nice enough pub. Beer (Holts Bitter) was good. Let down by the meal. Chips not cooked could not eat them, white and raw. Such a shame. So will not be returning.

The Hayfield proved a fitting venue for a hungry bunch whose ages straddled eight decades. The ambitious, and extensive menu met the varied choices and dietary nuances of the assembled group. Unsurprisingly, a Sunday roast, of classic proportions proved most popular for those of conservative palates. More adventurous items were popular for the younger generation, whilst the kids menu kept the younger set in happy bliss. Deserts were mostly themed on pub classics. The Hayfield is a place of comfort food, and not gastronomic edge, but it shines most in value. The staff were friendly, enthusiastic and forever busy in meeting the needs of all diners. We had placed orders for our main course in advance and this is best to ensure prompt delivery from a pressured kitchen.s

What a lovely pub. I organised a family get together for my mums 70th birthday. The staff there could not do enough for us and considering we were a party of 30 the service was top notch. This was on a Sunday and some had roast dinners which were excellent particularly the beef. The burgers were fantastic, huge and tasty with others having the hanging kebabs and flatbreads. Everyone enjoyed their meals and we were not hurried in any way. Thank you so much for making my mums birthday so special

I went here with my son, the staff were friendly and polite and the food was nice and well priced. The food from the children’s menu was better than a lot of pub food you get elsewhere. I will be returning.

My wife and I went out to eat here on Monday evening. The food is excellent, and we didn't have to wait long for it. The young lady who served us was lovely and friendly and an asset to the restaurant. The food was a little bit pricey, but isn't everything these days. We got starters, mains and sweet, and a couple of coke's each and it was £65 so I suppose I shouldn't complain. The surroundings where nice but probably need a bit of TLC as things where starting to get a bit worn and weathered. The place was also quite quiet, that suited us as we wanted a nice quiet night. Thank you for everything, we will definitely call again God willing.

Booked a table for 2 for 6.30 last night within a little over an hour. Charming response on the phone ‘see you soon’ a warm welcome when we arrived and a delightful meal ensued with pleasant service & good food. Well recommended.

Called in for a meal, food and service was really good. Meal was decent sized portion and it was very tasty. The Hayfield was also really clean. I would highly recommend If in the area.

A warm welcome from exceptional staff in a nice pub with great food and even better service by the lovely Sharon!! Menu is good and all 6of us ordered something different without a single complaint. Kids meals were adult size and good quality. Ran out of ipa but Sharon quickly and efficiently offered an alternative with a small taste of suggestion which i gladly accepted. Not something you get in many places nowadays and definitely worth commending. Well done The Hayfield!

We were let down at short notice by another local pub who decided to close their kitchen an hour early and The Hayfield, not only accommodated us, 9 adults and 2 children with 15 minutes notice, the staff went above and beyond to make sure our visit was really great. The food was exceptional, the selection of drinks great and although there was only one cask ale on, it was in top condition. I recommend the ultimate burger! Highly recommended.

Rang up for a table of 3 of such short notice, was offered a table instantly and this was just after 7pm, the girls all spoke to our little one making us all feel welcomed, food came piping hot and within a reasonable time too, was absolutely amazing. Nothing was a bother and everyone had a spare few moments to chat, making the visit personal. We will definitely be back again for our next treat meal.

Today Sunday 26th March. Had a lovely meal with my son and his wife. A birthday treat for son. Food and service very good. 4 stars as there's always room for improvement. I could nit pick but won't as overall a very god dining experience.

7 of us visited for granddaughter birthday. Service was brilliant by all team but Sharon was particularly helpful and went out of her way made extra sure everyone was happy and enjoy themselves . They allowed us to bring a birthday cake and then surprised my granddaughter by singing happy birthday . Food and drink is great value and tasty Will return very soon

Not up to scratch. Sunday lunch swimming in gravy. We have eaten here often but were really disappointed this time. I do not know if it has changed hands or have a new chef.

We spent Christmas 2022 at the hayfield and can honestly say it was a lovely day. This was our first Christmas at the hayfield and we’ve already booked for 2023 :-) We are a family of 2 adults and 4 children and we all throughly enjoyed the food and atmosphere. The staff went over and beyond to ensure a small request we had was fulfilled. Our waiter was fantastic with our children and went over and beyond to ensure everything went smoothly on the day. And the meal itself was great value for money. Well done to the management and team on a superb Christmas 2022

We brought some American visitors for lunch. The service was excellent - we were made to feel most welcome by the waitress. It was an extensive menu and all the food was well received. I would strongly recommend it

Went for the New Year's eve buffet. Even though we didn't stay till the end it was brilliant. Lovely atmosphere, very kind helpful staff who were very welcoming. Nice buffet and as for the d j he was fantastic. All in all what a wonderful evening.

We really enjoyed our Christmas dinner at The Hayfield Ormskirk this Sunday 25th December 2022, we arrived to a beautifully set table, and the staff attended to us straightaway and made us feel welcome, the food was excellent throughout and was all delicious and served efficiently and without making us rushed, the starters were excellent especially the crispy coated balls filled with goats cheese and walnut which were delicious, the soup was also excellent and tasty, the mains were all thoroughly enjoyed, the turkey roast dinner with nicely cooked veg etc was very tasty indeed, the salmon risotto was also nicely cooked and delicious, the deserts were all excellent and nicely presented, Thank you to the chefs for our lovely meals which were obviously cooked with care, and to the staff who were so patient and nice to us, the atmosphere in The Hayfield was nice and relaxed which was due to the staff who were there for us on Christmas Day and who work so hard, Many Thanks to all the staff, the chefs, waiting on staff, and bar staff.

Nachos is a good choice. Buy two large glasses of red wine and get the rest bottle free. Lovely open fire. Friendly staff.

We had a lovely warm welcome. Even though we haven't booked a table, they were able to find us one. The place looks clean and tidy. The staff were fantastic, they answered our questions straight away and made sure we were well looked after. The menu has a wide variety of food to choose from but not too many dishes. The food was very reasonably priced, good portion sizes, delicious add not a long wait. The toilets were clean and well stocked. Definitely returning.

Excellent value on curry day only just over £9 including a drink and it tasted delicious. Quick service also.

Got there at 4pm ordered 2 dinners at 4.15 came at 4.50. Then ordered desert at 5.16.got them at 6 o'clock.
