Lovely family evening celebrating a birthday. Food was good and service excellent, especially from Millie who was delightful

A lovely meal for my son’s birthday. Millie was so attentive and friendly. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We will definitely be back!

I was disapointed with the food we ordered. As someone else said on tripadviser it looked like someone had thrown the food on the plate i agree. The fries were luke warm,the fish was tasteless. I may come again but just for a drink. On the positive side the waitress and the other staff were very welcoming and helpful. The pub has a nice vibe but is let down by the food.

All fine except mixed grill took 3 decent sized serviettes to remove the fat/grease on plate it arrived with. I asked waitress to take the 3 serviettes to Chef who needs serious & urgent retraining in presentation. Totally unacceptable & contrary to Marstons Policy, just sheer shoddy laziness .No wonder the place was empty. What is the point of advising calories in menu & then presenting a plate full of grease. Even with 30% off AVOID There are 2 better places less than 1 mile in every direction to eat

Came here last weekend with my partner, food was amazing, a broad choice of beer with ales and lager on tap, steak was cooked to perfection and beer tasted crisp thank you to all the staff that made our night special.

Wir waren zum Essen eingeladen. Das Saxon Penny hat eine tolle Speisekarte mit verschiedenen Angeboten. Bestellt wird an der Theke. Das Essen ging schnell, wurde frisch zubereitet und hat sehr gut geschmeckt. Auch der Dessertteil war nicht zu verachten.

This pub is within walking distance of our home and over the years we have visited several times hoping for improvement but unfortunately this establishment is an absolute disaster and such a waste as it is in a prime position for business. The reputation of this place is not good due to the poor quality of food and lengthy waiting times even though the place is usually empty.

Well what can I say me and hubby come here every weekday evening and it’s absolutly amazing that goes for staff and food. Don’t pass this place by! 😃

Firstly no one greeted us at the door upon arrival, then it took half an hour for our order to be taken, my dough balls were raw which there was no apology for, the nachos were bland then our main course came and our table was not cleared for nearly an hour, we had our mains on our table whilst eating dessert. I've never been somewhere where the service was that appalling.

Have given this Pub a couple of chances but there comes a point you have to say enough is enough.Very very poorly trained and managed staff,young and inexperienced and Uninterested.The buy 1 get 1 free offer is simply NOT.it's overpriced in the 1st instance.Food is not plentiful and uninteresting and flavourless. It is rushed out the kitchen.Management don't appear to have any interest in customers or a standard.Avoid unless you want to waste your money.

Food was lovely definitely recommend the mix grill off the specials board. The only thing we had to ask to have our order taken

This is the first time I had been to the Saxon Penny. Firstly before I comment specifically on the meal I have to say that Marston's menu is not very inspiring, Very few vegetarian meals and a large emphasis on red meat. Even some of the chicken dishes were a chicken and red meat combo. Two chicken dishes were ordered (not off the menus) and both were overcooked. I sent mine back as I could not get the knife through it. How difficult is it to pan fry a chicken breast? When my meal came back it was OK but it rather spoils the meal if you have to send it back.

I see people with nothing better to do with their lives are back. Christmas day was fantastic at the Saxon Penny food and service was faultless well done again to all the staff and happy christmas

Visited with 3 friends for tea time catch up, so pub only had a few people in, maybe 3 tables. We ordered 3 chicken meals and 1 vegetarian. When vegetarian meal came it looked more like a starter.... No one. asked if meals were ok. We managed to pad the veggie meal out with chips and salad from the other meals. We didn't see any staff until they asked if we wanted desserts, when we said no they bought the bill immediately, still no one asked about the meals. We settled the bill and had to take it to the bar after waiting ten minutes, still no customer service. Should anyone from Saxon Penny reading this, for their information the meal was just about average. Two for one, I dont think so .... Just overpriced in the first place, won't be revisiting.......

A perfectly pleasant big chain pub. The place is well presented and staff friendly, polite and helpful. The focus is on food rather than drinking which is no bad thing in view of its location close to a residential area. The menu and specials board combine to offer a varied choice of straight-forward pub food. As long as you don't go expecting gourmet dining you won't be disappointed but pleasantly surprised by the good value for money. Table service for drinks was a good idea and, as with the food, a varied selection of drinks is available. Basically, a good straight-forward family food pub.

Best meal we have had at a marston pub for ages. Service was good too. Will go back. Daughter ate all of her meal which is a bonus.
