The Saxon Mill in Warwick

We celebrated our wedding at The Saxon Mill and could not have been happier with the service and how the day went. Katie, our wedding organiser, was outstanding and we were able to trust her to make sure the day flowed smoothly. We had the two course dinner for ourselves and guests and we were really impressed with the quality and level of service. Totally recommend. It's also been refurbished and looks amazing.

staff are kind, however we were waiting 30 minutes for our drinks, and the only chips we ordered were undercooked and wasn’t so busy outside. We only ordered cold drinks too, so the wait was surprising as customers who too work in hospitality.

Went for lunch today as a table of 4 after having a lovely meal at the relaunch. We were all disappointed at the quality of the food unfortunately this time. We went for the lunch menu and although the starters arrived within 5 minutes there was a good 15 minutes to clear our table before the mains arrived and one of the the mains was delayed because there fries weren't ready. The fillet steak sandwiches on seeded bread advertised on the menu were just 3 small pieces of steak wedged into a toasted white leaf and look unappealing with wilted salad. The presentation of all the 3 courses was poor and the waiting staff although lovely didn't seem like they had much direction.

Food wasn’t the best. The burger was such a let down! It felt as though anyone could have put it together. Also the starters for example, Pizza bread base was burnt! Everything else from the atmosphere, to staff were great! We felt so disappointed with the food after leaving! It was pub food level which isn’t bad, unless that’s what you’re expecting… I feel disappointed I didn’t take photos of the food! But that’s my experience when I last went!

Great place staff and food excellent

Service was slow - took 5 minutes for us to be taken to our table, we then waited a further 15 minutes before a drinks order was taken. Two of the starters didn't have enough bread (Port and Cheddar Mushrooms and the Chicken liver and fig parfait), the latter of which could not be finished due to lack of bread. Mains - the prawn linguine was closer to a chorizo linguine with just 3 prawns found and not hot! Half chicken was fine. Overall service was very slow and with cold food suggested it had been sitting around. Unfortunately, you can refurb the building but if you don't do anything about the staff it will continue to fail.

Unfortunately, our visit to this restaurant today on Mother's Day cast a shadow over what could have been a lovely day in Warwickshire. When we arrived for our pre-booked table at 5:45 PM, we were bluntly directed to head around the corner and take the next left, which led us to the rear of the pub—a place we were unfamiliar with. After waiting approximately five minutes in this area without being acknowledged, we were finally shown to our table. We sat down at ten to six, which was fine, but then waited a frustrating 50 minutes for our pre-ordered starters to arrive. I had the scallops, which appeared to be one large scallop cut into thirds, and they seemed hastily presented, almost thrown onto the plate. My wife ordered the chicken skewers, which arrived overcooked and resembled rubber bullets. We also requested that the children’s meals be expedited, but sadly, they took much longer than expected. My eldest daughter had the bangers and mash, which was clearly left under a heat lamp, as the gravy had congealed by the time it arrived. After finishing our starters, the main courses were almost immediately thrust upon us. The cauliflower cheese was burnt, the gravy was watery, and the chicken was drier than a desert. The poor server, Jack, who was scheduled to finish at six but had to cover, was left to manage our complaints alone, as no management came to address the situation. To add to our frustration, a family who walked in after us and hadn’t pre-ordered received their food faster than we did. As for dessert, our pre-order was lost, and we didn’t receive it at all. Although we received a discount on our bill, we felt stuck since we had pre-paid £70 and were charged for each individual dish rather than a set menu price. As a result, we ended up with smaller portion sizes, poor service, and no dessert—all for a higher price. I am utterly disgusted and wish I had never walked through those doors. The only praise I can offer is for our waiter, Jack, who did his best under the circumstances. I will also be sending a formal email of complaint to the restaurant.

A really poor experience today at Saxon Mill. I was part of a large pre booked and ordered party and it seemed like the place couldn't cope. The starter took an hour to come out which was ok, nothing to shout about. The mains then trickled out slowly and I received the most sorry looking Gammon meal I've seen. The meat and egg was overcooked, chips undercooked and the pineapple baby food sauce wasn't pleasant at all. All the other gammon meals were of the same or worse state. The other meals in the party looked nice and filled the plate, so why was this such a sorry sight? A colleague of mine had the risotto which was overcooked and tasteless. She left the entire meal. Overall a poor experience and we wont be rushing back.

Server Ashley, excellent service went out her way to be helpful. Food excellent and would fully recommend it to anyone interested.

We left before we even got started. Everyone around us kept knocking into our chairs as we were all crammed in tightly. That was after we were sat down 15 minutes after our 6pm reservation. The host at the front told us that they had had lots of people leave on mass. People around us were struggling to get service for drinks etc. So we asked to move, we got told not possible and to wait. By this point, we just decided to leave and avoid a bad night. It's a shame as this used to be a regular for us. It's actually where we had our first date.

me and my wife went for a meal this evening obsolulty awful food we had the roast chicken dinner never again it was burnt chicken was dry over cooked just like a child had cooked it dreadful even the veg was terrible if you want a nice meal don't go there go somewhere that can cook good food

Booked a table for my birthday excited about the new opening and refurb. Sadly very disappointing. I’d made clear on my booking that we wanted a quieter table not in the main thoroughfare as my kids find noise and large crowds of people challenging. We were sat right in the middle of the restaurant near the stairs so had both staff and customers constantly bustling past us and the floor is bouncy in this area too. We sat at 5.30pm. Ordered at 5.50pm (though no one could find a specials menu) and didn’t get our main course until 7pm! We were told that service was disrupted by a wedding but no one told us of this until we questioned where our food was. When it did arrive the steak came with chips and only a small handful of mushrooms and a half baked onion. Pretty poor for the price in our opinion and little was done to compensate for the late arrival. Service while friendly seemed chaotic which didn’t make for a very nice atmosphere. Won’t be returning.

Not being from the area we discovered this place by chance, what a gem. The food was the best Sunday lunch I have eaten out anywhere. Beer was top notch and the service was absolutely fantastic, thanks Liv. Will be returning again when visiting family without a doubt.

Stopped off for a drink and a quick bite to eat after football with some of the other families. Very welcoming, nice setting, great service and the boys enjoyed their food. The roast dinners looked epic but sadly we didn’t have enough time for one of those. Will definitely be back.

Called in just for drinks after a walk.. my Grandson is Coeliac.. they went out of their way to make sure everything was clean and washed for his hot chocolate.

Arrived for a preview of the refurbishment and was really impressed with the new decor and furniture. The staff were all brilliant and had obviously been well trained. Some were on their first day but you wouldn’t know it. The food was great and served promptly. We were served by Tyler, Liam and Katie who were brilliant. In the bar Sammy, Becky and Zara were all very welcoming and managers Vicky and Jenni both had time to stop and chat. A fantastic experience !

We arrived for a preview. The decor and atmosphere was lovely. We were served by Tyler, Liam, and Katie they were all very helpful, great customer service and nothing was too much very attentive. On arriving we were greeted by Sammie and Zara . Both were very welcoming. The management team Vicky , Jenni and Becky were all fabulous . They stopped to chat and asked if we were enjoying our food and what we thought of the new refurbishment ect . Fabulous evening and will definitely be returning and recommending .

Really enjoyed being back for the reopening. It was great to see so many of the staff who have returned and to meet the new ones. Sam who greeted us was lovely and really looks after everything really well. Enjoyed the Diabolo Pizza. My partner does not like hot as hell as much as I do, so the chef kindly cooked it as a 50/50 pizza. That was really appreciated. We sat in the rear bar, near the steps to the upstairs. The canapé were really good, especially the pate and fish and chip sample. It was so kind to have two free drinks for the opening night too. The refurbishment looks really good and I must say the toilets were second only to the Ritz hotel in my opinion. Absolutely superb. My partner taught two of the staff in primary school, so it's lovely to see them happy and doing well. The new lad in the bar grew in confidence as the night went on. He is a good lad and will do really well. Thanks to Sam and her team for a lovely night. Welcome back!

Great experience being back at the Saxon mill for the reopening. We revisited of Saxon Mill after its recent refurbishment and were very impressed. We’ve always loved the setting at the back overlooking the beautiful mill pond, but on this winter visit we really admired the cosy front room, complete with lovely new decoration and an open fire which we will look forward to returning to of a chilly evening. A solid selection of beers and wines and some very tasty food were backed up with really friendly service. They have redecorated the front bar in a way that supports and enhances the existing charm and history, complete with chandeliers and rich tapestry style wallpaper and I highly recommend a visit

We went on opening night, and had the most amazing experience, food was delicious and our waitress Maria although new was very good on what was a very busy night. Will most definitely be back as food far better than other restaurants in the chain. Great work, refit looked great.

We visited the restaurant on Thursday 13th March in the evening for one of the relaunch events. We had a lovely evening. The staff were on top form, super helpful and friendly; especially Becky who looked after us when we were sat at our table. The new refit looks fab! Very luxurious and felt really fresh. Drinks were served promptly and well but the real treat was the food. For starters we ate the beef croquettes and the squid, for our mains we had the pork and scallops duo and duck salad. All of these were cooked and presented brilliantly with good portion sizes and tasted so good. I would thoroughly recommend the duck salad if you are looking for a light but tasty main meal. Keep up the good work chefs! The chocolate bomb for desert was always going to be a hit with my chocolate loving husband and the lemon tart was perfect! We will defiantly visit again and recommend The Saxon Mill to all. Thanks for a great evening !

Tried the Saxon Mill as part of its refurbishment reopening. Tried a rare fillet steak which had a lovely melting texture. Chips felt a bit firm in the middle (not quite fluffy all the way through), and the salt and pepper squid started was maybe slightly rubbery. Our server Ella was very polite and prompt. Had such a fantastic evening - discovering the new look Saxon Mill. The place looked amazing, the food delicious & the staff so wonderfully attentive. I’ve always loved the Saxon Mill - and it’s just gone up another level. Highly recommend it - and special thanks to Olivia for looking after us!

Staff (particularly Ella who served us) were excellent. Starters (prawns, goats cheese, pate and squid were amazing so we were excited for the mains. Steaks weren’t the best (my husband had his replaced) but this was dealt with quickly and professionally and sometimes you just get a bad cut. So all in all a great experience and we will return.

Only been here a few times. Food (snacking rather than three course) was not bad and seemed to be consistently reasonable across the visits. Nice atmosphere. Prices seemed reasonable.

We just went to the Saxon Mill on New Years Day with our large party to enjoy the Christmas festive menu. I would highly recommend visiting, the place is beautiful, food delicious and the staff super friendly, not least our lovely waitress Ella!

We came to the saxon mill and ordered from the christmas menu and it was absolutely delicious. It was really good value for money and the attention to detail with the food just made it that much better! We were served by Ella who was really helpful with us especially as we were a group of 10. I would definitely recommend this as a must visit!

On balance this is a really nice place, nice ambience, great service. Strangely enough the food is quite average. I found that my meal wasn't seasoned enough and others in my group were a bit disappointed with their steaks.

We had a wonderful time here on Boxing day. The place was packed out but the people who worked there were calm throughout and so friendly and helpful. The food was delicious. Definitely will eat here again.

Disappointing meal out on Xmas Eve. Restaurant packed. Waiter slammed wine bottle on the table with such a loud thump. No pouring of the wine. Very rude. Food portions small. Burgers unappetising. Deserts and coffees ordered. Coffees came first. 45 minutes later still no deserts. Left on the side with a load of young staff more interested in chatting to each other than doing their job. One hour later after coffees served deserts served. All freezing cold and straight out the packet. Absolute rubbish. Saxonmill you need to up your game. Awful.

We were seated by a very draughty old door, so i had to put my jacket back on, later i had to move over to other side of the table away from the cold. The lady opposite was also cold, as the door kept opening for people traipsing through regularly to the restaurant. We had a very expensive and disappointing Christmas Day lunch. We were told to get there at 11 30 am, which we rushed and adhered to. When we arrived in room by fire on ground floor we were the only people in the room. We thought that at least a few more people would be arriving at the very early time of 11 30 am, BUT NO. As there were only 2 of us it was very miserable, and the drinks, breads, and starters were served very quickly and we had eaten these by 11 45 ish. I was so upset i went to find the planner Kate, who was in the restaurant which was full of people. She said she would come and see our table. All she could keep saying was that the kitchen had to serve people in a strict order. So we could not get our point over, then another lady whom was another manager came to see us, explained again. I said no way were we going to have our main course on our own..She said we could wait for the other people to arrive, which was really not till 12 noon onwards for a few guests to arrive. So we duly waited for the other guests to eat their starters and then had our main courses, me Turkey, bullet hard brussels, roast potatoes awful, turkey ok. My husband had the rack of lamb which was very small with hardly any vegetables. I then asked the nice waitress if perhaps he could have a few roast potatoes, which she kindly said of course. I then had Christmas pudding and custard which was the smallest pudding i have ever had in a restaurant. My husband fared better as he had the cheeseboard, which was ok. As we had paid £15 extra for drinks at start and end, i thought i was getting a remarkable wine in a proper wine glass, but it came in a small flute, as you get for Proseco etc. Again my husband did better as he had a pint of Peroni. At end of meal i had a Mohito, which i was looking forward to, i started to drink it, but it affected my stomach badly, so left most of it. We then left as all i wanted was to get home to a warm house and take some antacids for my very painful stomach. There were some nice touches , with a Christmas card, and 2 chocs each in little boxes. The waitresses were very efficient and coped well. Beautiful location, good food but too little specialisation in a type of food spoil the atmosphere because people take different things which smell different and have different timeline. I suggest not to try catering to every taste but to do only what you are best at

Very nice Christmas Day Lunch. Staff were superb and everything ran like clockwork. Food was superb and great value for money, thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Very well organised and would definitely visit again for our Christmas Day meal.

Excellent Christmas Day Lunch. Everything from start to finish went so smoothly. We booked and paid up front and had the Full Package which included a 3 course meal, a drink to start and a drink after the meal. Myself and my wife both opted for the Soup (rustic bread also included), Turkey plus trimmings and a Chocolate Bomb for desert. On arrival, there was plenty of spaces to park and we were then shown straight to our table which had been set up nicely including a couple of Xmas crackers. The staff were excellent and the food very tasty and portions just right for us. All in all, we both really enjoyed our meals which we felt were very good value for money. Thankyou Saxon Mill, we really enjoyed our meal in lovely surroundings.

Well I have to say been going to the Saxon mill for years and I was very disappointed, the food wasn’t hot, the food was very sparse and not worth the money, the cutlery and glasses are always dirty and could do with a polish, Ive been here for birthdays and other lunches, truly isn’t worth the money anymore, think there needs to a be a new shef and some staff that are attentive

Xmas dinner was terrible hard sprouts cold turkey, roasters wasn't cooked ,pudding chocolate bomb sauce was cold never again spoilt our xmas

Sadly quite disappointed with our Christmas lunch at the Saxon Mill today. We ended up paying over £100 per head for not great food and slow service, definitely didn’t think the experience and quality matched the price point. We first went to the restaurant bit and waited about 10 minutes stood at the host station before anyone came to greet us and take us to our table, by this point there was a rather large queue forming out the door. We were then told our table was in the pub, not the restaurant, much to our surprise as we had specifically asked to be seated upstairs as I know the downstairs pub bit allows dogs and my husband doesn’t like dogs, not off to the best start. The breads, drinks and starters were lovely, no issues whatsoever. However, trying to put this politely, one of the servers that brought our food over definitely didn’t smell fresh, which is somewhat of a hygiene issue when you work in the food service industry. A strong B.O. smell is quite off-putting when you’re about to eat your dinner. My husband’s main was lovely but my beef wellington was bone dry and both deserts were a bit of a let down. During the meal there were multiple children running around, screaming, shouting and treating the place like a playground, I understand this isn’t the restaurant’s fault but it made for a very unpleasant atmosphere. We then had to wait about half an hour for our drinks bill. I ended up having to go up to the bar and ask again if we could please pay as we thought we had been forgotten about and wanted to get home for the remainder of Christmas. £40 for 2 mocktails, an alcohol-free beer and a water was very steep. Overall, I just don’t think the price point is justifiable for the experience we had.

Fantastic restaurant just on the outskirts of Warwick. Excellent menu choice and very friendly and professional staff to assist you. Been on previous occasions and always very welcoming. Went for the Breakfast with Santa event and was very well set out. Definitely recommend a visit with the friends and family.

I’d like to thank Liv and Peter who were behind the bar at the Saxon Mill Warwick, for their kindness, humour and customer service. We came for a meal Sunday 22nd and they were so generous with their time considering how busy the restaurant was.

Some of the food was excellent, but some of the food was very disappointing. The starters, pork and fish were lovely, but the steak was like chewing leather, the chips were undercooked (we sent them back but the second batch was also undercooked) and the chocolate brownie was cold, basic and tasted too much of bicarb. It was disappointing for the money spent. The service from the waitress was excellent though.

Family of five. We’ve eaten here many times over the years with it being local to us & it’s always been very good. However had not been since March 2024 & decided to treat the family for pre Christmas meal. The food was so disappointing, we had pork belly & scallops x3, chicken burger & fish n chips. Well not sure what’s happened in the last 8 months but the quality of the food has gone significantly down hill, served in embarrassingly tiny portions that wouldn’t fill a 3 year old & all of the food was served tepid at best! The food was served by teenagers employed for Christmas holidays only & that was blatantly evident, they were more interested in each other than their customers. £200 plus bill for drinks, a bottle of wine & 5 main courses. Not acceptable when you have to go home & order Just Eat as everyone was still hungry! We would’ve done better in the local town cafe! Employ proper chefs & servers & get it right, you’re relying on location only & feel that serving up inadequate food is acceptable. We’ve had much better meals in much more reasonably priced restaurants/pubs.. and that’s where we will be taking our business next time. Never again, disgraceful!

A great Christmas lunch with colleagues, and much better than my previous experience here where I had just fallen in the River Avon (although completely unrelated to anyone at The Saxon Mill)

Olivia treated us to table service as the bar was quiet. Excellent choice on the menu. I had Port and Cheddar mushrooms then The Dirty burger. Food looked lush and didn’t disappoint.

Went Sunday afternoon. Very busy indeed. Not offered Xmas option. Seated upstairs by stairs and bar, was very cold in that area. Food was ok, meat nice but veg not cooked or properly seasoned and luke warm only. Sprouts were extra and like large hard bullets bought us more when we complained which were only slightly better and then charged us for both lots. Not a great experience, seems they had bitten off more than they could chew on a busy day

I went with my daughter, daughter in law and four grandchildren to have breakfast with Santa and it was a truly wonderful experience. Santa was amazing and they all thoroughly enjoyed talking to him. He told them what he had given them for Christmas last year and what they had asked for this year. They were mesmerised. Breakfast was of a very high quality and tasted delicious. What a fabulous place! Highly recommend!

If you are looking for a restaurant with posh vibes with great food this is definitely it. Scenic views outside aswell beside River Avon. Would've given 5 stars if service wasn't that long from being seated and in between the 3 course meals took long and no special anything for celebrants. Food was phenomenal though

Dined here for a work Christmas party. Parking on site which is great, arrived at 6pm restaurant was very busy. We were a group of 14, our table was very squished where we were seated. There was a pipe upstairs that didn’t allow for us to pull our chair out fully. Service was smooth considering how busy they were, staff were all very polite. I had sticky chicken starter, buttermilk burger with chips and the chocolate bomb dessert. Starter was very tasty, burger was great but had to ask for extra sauce (forgot to take a photo). Was really looking forward to the dessert but was disappointed that the majority of us that ordered the chocolate bomb (where you pour warm chocolate over the ball) none of them melted to reveal the filling. Tasted fine but not something I’d order again. Overall, was pleased with meal but for the pricing I didn’t think it was worth it.

Ambience is great but staff, they need to be more friendly and comforting the guests with a better helping approach rather than getting away from eye contact. I mentioned not to be placed in the center tables but even though there were at least 5 empty tables for three they placed us in the center tables. Ridiculous. I am not visiting you Again never ever

Disappointing festive fare. I felt sorry for the staff, not enough of them on duty, they were rushed off their feet. Food was cold when served but the staff handled the complaint well, free drinks and discount knocked off the bill.

Sooo disappointed!! 11 of us went to the Saxon Mill for our Christmas Lunch/Dinner (pre-booked in early October). Having eaten here before and had Christmas dinner here 2 years earlier we were full of excitement and anticipation. So…. first of all no Christmas crackers nor any decorations on the table. Apparently the soup was luke warm at best , I had the pate which was nice though no additional salad, quite basic. The traditional Christmas dinner itself was pretty good except for the brussels sprouts which were practically raw and the bread sauce which was stodgy and tasteless. For those that opted for steak with a sauce instead had to pay an additional £10 over and above an already pricey £36.50! Desserts were tasty but overall minimal portion sizes… then why oh why was coffee and mince pies not included as part of a Festive Menu?? Is that not the done thing anymore?? Anyway overall we all felt disappointed at the lack of festive cheer and we certainly won’t be booking again next year.

Superb! Rebooked our works xmas lunch at the Saxon Mill having had a great experience last year, and once again the staff and the food didn’t disappoint. Made the booking over the phone a couple of weeks before, pre-ordered from the really nice three course xmas menu and paid deposit online. No hassle and all acknowledged personally. Upon arrive Sammy and her front of house team made us feel very welcome. The upstairs restaurant at the rear of the Mill was beautifully festive with trimmings and lights making it a great atmosphere with views out over the river. Table was all set for our group including what turned out to be a very handy printed copy of our order so we could help ensure everyone remembered what they ordered! Brilliant service, nothing was too much trouble. Food was again like last year excellent. Great selection and options. The turkey dinner was delicious and good size portions too. Highly recommend this restaurant and pub be that as a dinner for two or larger group. Clear upon leaving our group enjoyed the feast and would easily return again next year. Dreadful place, dirty, poor service - such a shame given the surroundings. An old Mill that needs a complete refresh.......we can only hope. Went again today. Reheated chips, poor service not even cutlery. Never again.

We had a great time at the Saxon Mill for our company Christmas meal. We were in the private room. Everything has been excellent from the booking & planning, the lovely friendly and efficient staff, and great Christmassy room. Most of all the foods was really really good.

Excellent food and a warm welcome, table by the log fire. This is a fascinating old mill building with a working water wheel.
