We were celebrating and wanted an experience. We went for the tasting menu. Whilst the food tasted good with nice presentation, the whole experience really let it down. There was no atmosphere, it was very loud due to the high ceilings and hard floor, it was difficult to understand what the waiters were saying about what we were eating (we are under 40years old and don't have hearing issues!). Luckily we had taken a photo of the menu so could refer back to that. The majority of the staff were stony faced, didn't look like they wanted to be there and it didn't feel very friendly. They did a good job at placing the food and clearing the table but for the price, the experience really let this down. It needs a host, someone who looks to ensure guests are relaxed and welcomed. I couldn't tell who was a manager v's who was a waiter, there were plenty of staff but even after a spillage (over a guest), the apologies and rush to help him clear a sauce off his suit was absent. We didn't get asked if we wanted more drinks. Overall food was nice, but not as good as we were hoping and have experienced elsewhere. Boring bread, no flavoured butters, ice cream served on a warm dish so it had half melted by the time it arrived - not what is expected when spending that amount of money. Green beans so over-done we couldn't even stab them as they came apart. Quite a let-down when spending over £300 on 2 people with no alcohol!

Once again we had a lovely meal. This particular lunch was one of the best we've had here over the years. The tartare of veal was perfect, great little changes such as the crispy fried potato and chili. The duck egg always a pleasure. The John Dory was excellent last time but was even better at a second go with some new tweaks. The toasted pine nuts added texture and the morel brought a meaty back note. The retro looking rhubarb tart was a delight and I don't usually go for the souffle but was glad I did. The maple and lemon ice cream was so good we asked how it was made. James came out to explain the process. It was a pleasure to met him. The service was of its usual very high standard. Thank you.

I have eaten at a number of great restaurants however, the Cross is in a class of its own. To constantly create exceptional food and deliver high quality service is sadly a rare occurrence nowadays, but the Cross has managed it over a number of years (even though Covid when we had ‘The Cross at home). Hugh thank you to Ed who’s professionalism and attention to detail really make us feel welcome. May you stay open for many more years to come!

Having previously had a wonderful experience here we looked forward to our return, sadly it was a disappointment. We were seated in the back room which lacks atmosphere, has a constant flow of staff passing so you almost feel like you are in a corridor and is quite noisy. On our first visit we were seated in the wood panelled front room, a far superior experience. Whilst the food was nice it wasn’t particularly special, the hazelnut soufflé being the highlight.

Chosen starter not as billed, main course (duck) excellent. Canele was overcooked. Dessert (soufflé) dampened by the 'theatre' of the wait staff spooning the middle out to pour in sauce - unnecessary and disappointing. Same wait staff (head female wait staff) also did not serve from the left and often reached across the whole table and plates of food whilst we ate to refill water that hadn't run dry despite both sides of our table being accessible. Toilets were dated and ordinary. It was generally quite nice, but not as special as expected.

Nice food, really delicious, but I can't give more than three stars for the service when cutlery is simply placed on the table—not on a napkin, not on a tablecloth, just directly on the table. Thank goodness it's not on the floor. Do they wipe the table before placing the cutlery? They brush it with a brush that's been used who knows how many times before?

Rather disappointed with our experience. We were seated in the smaller room near the pass but also opposite the entrance to the toilets - it felt like a thoroughfare!! There was no ambience whatsoever. The seating was uncomfortable and I was cold throughout the evening. This was a family outing with our daughter and we all had the tasting menu. It looked fantastic on paper and had the opportunity to be served with real flourish. However, the food was not spectacular and the service was perfunctory at best. It all felt just a little tired or maybe so well rehearsed the staff forgot about the customers. We will not be returning.

A wonderful meal as expected. The bisque never fails, great depth of flavour with just the right back note of heat. Beef tartar was very good with the yeast crumb a great addition. The halibut, an elevated sole Veronique, was an elegant and balanced dish. The fish was perfectly cooked and and delicately sliced grape perfectly offset the buttery verjus sauce. The souffle was excellent and the vanilla/pine nut tart was a delight, I could have eaten two. Service was of the usual high standard. Always a pleasure to dine here.

I visited with a friend. The menu advertised on booking was no longer available but there was a vegetarian menu and we were asked about allergies. The room was uncomfortably cold (I had to keep my jacket on and still felt chilly). I mentioned this to the waitress and she commented it was a cold day. Service was very slow and we actually cancelled coffee because it took so long to arrive. The food, when it arrived, was very good and beautifully presented. However the chilly room did not make the experience as enjoyable as it could have been. The head waiter didn’t smile once and we both commented that he must be having a bad day as he looked very miserable.

Right from the delicious nibbles to the chocolate souffle the food was so well cooked and the presentation was excellent. Stepping into The Cross in Kenilworth, there’s an immediate sense that you’re in for something special. From the inviting, historic ambiance to the friendly but refined service, this Michelin-starred restaurant has perfected the art of dining. But it is on the plate where Adam Bennett and his team truly excel, and the Tasting Menu is a testament to their commitment to excellence. The evening commenced with the Pea & Ham Broth, a humble-sounding dish that was anything but ordinary. The broth, delicately infused with carrot, celeriac, and parsley, had remarkable depth, with a subtle sweetness that lingered long after the last spoonful. The balance between the earthiness of the vegetables and the savoury notes of the ham was simply divine—an elegant and warming start to the meal. Next came the Salad of Pineapple Tomatoes. As visually stunning as it was on the palate, this dish showcased the purity of its ingredients. The sweetness of the tomatoes was beautifully offset by the creamy goats cheese and the fresh notes of basil, while the sourdough crisp added a satisfying textural contrast. It was a light, refreshing course that set the stage perfectly for what was to follow. The Tartar of Loch Duart Salmon provided a more robust flavour profile, with the rich, silky texture of the salmon complemented by the zing of pickled ginger, sesame, and the slight pepperiness of radish. The dish was a brilliant interplay of texture and taste, with every bite offering something new—a true showcase of refined technique and respect for the raw ingredient. A particular highlight of the evening was the Line-Caught Sea Bass, which arrived accompanied by wild mushrooms, potato scales, and a kohlrabi salad. The fish was cooked to perfection, its delicate flesh enhanced by the slight sweetness of grapes and pine kernels. The verjus sauce, bright and sharp, brought the dish together harmoniously. It’s the kind of sauce that tempts one to drink it directly from the serving boat—a perfect marriage of acidity and depth that elevated the entire course. The Breast of Creedy Carver Duck was a showstopper. Served with glazed beetroot, Ratte potato, and black fig, the duck was tender and full of flavour, its richness balanced by the sweet and slightly tart elements on the plate. However, it was the duck jus, infused with orange and Madagascar pepper, that truly stole the show. The complexity of this jus was remarkable, adding layers of flavour to an already luxurious dish. Every bite left me wanting more, a true testament to the kitchen’s skill. For dessert, we were treated to the Floating Island, a light and airy creation that was the perfect finale to a rich and indulgent meal. The meringue, delicate and cloud-like, floated in a pool of crème anglaise, complemented by a salted caramel ice cream that added just the right amount of richness. The dish was completed with frosted almonds and a luscious caramel sauce, offering a textural contrast that made every spoonful feel luxurious. This dessert was a sublime balance of flavours and textures—sweet, creamy, crunchy, and salty—each element working in harmony. In summary, The Cross at Kenilworth is a restaurant where every detail is carefully considered, from the composition of each dish to the pacing of the meal. Adam Bennett's talent is evident in every course, with a deep respect for ingredients and flawless execution. For those seeking a dining experience that balances innovation with tradition, this tasting menu is a must-try. It’s not just a meal—it’s a journey through modern British cuisine, curated with skill and passion. If you haven't yet had the pleasure of dining at The Cross, do yourself a favour and make a reservation. It’s an experience that lingers long after the plates are cleared.

We have eaten in many Michelin star restaurants over the years and would suggest this is probably one of the best 1 star establishments we have eaten in. The tasting menu was well balanced and each course was nicely presented and tasty although some of the specific stated ingredients were a little shy in coming forward with their flavor contribution. The accompanying wine flight was generous enough although I wasn't sure that one of the pairings really worked. The staff were diligent and friendly especially the Sommelier. The atmosphere was relaxed but given we were the only people in the lower dining room (we needed to be level access to the toilets) we cant comment on the true ambience but given I hate crowded spaces I was happy with that. They had a Thursday discount rate which we weren't expecting that applied to both food and wine which meant the meal was really quite good value.

We attended The Cross for a friends wedding and the food and service was next to none. The team did not skip a beat! Our wine glasses never emptied, despite our best efforts, and there were multiple allergies amongst our party and the team were on it, remembering faces and finding those with dietary requirements amongst the moving crowd. They struck a perfect balance between friendliness and professionalism, having a laugh and joke with the party whilst not detracting from the luxurious Michelin star experience. I thoroughly enjoyed every dish I ate which, as a vegan, is a rarity as the vegan options are usually an afterthought, but it was a true experience and delight. This feedback was echoed throughout the group with the various dishes the party had. I'd highly recommend The Cross for a special event and look forward to eating here again in the future

Good selection of drinks, the manager with the glasses and majority of the staff were absolutely fantastic. The only issue was one of the older waiters with the skin fade made us feel really uncomfortable, aswell as the table next to us and came across as very rude - huffing and puffing, throwing the plates on the table and just chucking the sauce on before stomping off… really not a good look for a restaurant that needs to smash customer service as well as the food. The food is gorgeous as you would expect from a Michelin starred restaurant and the bill for the 4 of us was in excess of £500. I wasn’t a great fan of the environment if I am honest. Its looks a little dated and ‘cold’. The staff were lovely, with the exception of one who was surly and miserable. My biggest reason for the lack of 5 stars though (which I am sad about as the food was great) is we were sat as the last people at the end of service (probably no later than 10.15pm) and the staff came out in force and started spraying the tables around us with anti bac. If they wanted us to leave, I think it would have been far nicer to just say they were closing rather than spraying around us. Not what we expected for a restaurant at this price point.

On approach, it looked tired and shabby on the front side of the building, but once inside, it is very nice. Sadly, I was cold for my whole meal. My feet were freezing! My wife laughed as it is normally her who suffers with cold feet, but maybe it was because I sat by an outside wall. I needed warmth but sadly the fire wasn't on! As for food, the nibbles were excellent as was the bread. My starter and main was OK but I have certainly had better. My wife was happy with hers and I did wish I had chosen what she had. The food at the Cross was exceptional, it has certainly earned its reputation for fine dining. The combination of flavours and presentation was a delight to the senses. A personal highlight being the duck breast I had for my main. The crispy duck egg starter was also very tasty with the hazelnut souffle dessert being the weakest offering of the three courses. Despite the flowery presentation of your server pouring hot chocolate sauce into the top of the souffle into the shape of a cross, the texture was quite unpleasant and the flavour was lacking. Giving you the mouth feel of a vaguely nutty curdled egg. Having tried the tiramisu of someone else in my party, I can confidently say, that is the superior option. Furthermore, despite the service being very polite and attentive when present at the table. We did end up waiting quite a long time to not only order but also between courses. This was supplemented during the first half of our meal with complimentary entrees and bread basket. But when paying £85 per person, you don't expect to be waiting 40+ minutes between my starter and main course with no check ins from the servers. The Cross fell victim to this again with dessert. Some of my party ordered coffee in place of dessert, but instead of it all coming out at once, the coffees arrived 20 minutes before the desserts. It was very busy the night we attended so maybe they were short on staff. Food wise The Cross is everything you'd expect, but the service let it down on this occasion.

Great Michelin star restaurant in the Midlands. Amazing fresh ingredients cooked perfectly. Staff is very professional and kind. Booking is necessary at least a week/10 days in advance. The hazelnut soufflé is one of the best dessert we ever had.

Lunch amazing, particularly the sea bream with lobster sauce. The only shame was having the petit fours, with the coffee, cut in half rather than one each.

Wonderful food as you would expect from a great restaurant like this. The Pork for main and the Apple and doughnut dessert was a master class in gastronomy. Anyone wanting somewhere special for a meal, look no further than The Cross.

There are no words to describe the dining experience at the Cross. It is pricey but you get what you paid for. The flavours, the presentatio, the service are all 5 star!!! Would definitely recommend if you ever visit Kenilworth.

After a break of 4 years, we had lunch here today & the food is still as good as ever. The cooking is absolutely magnificent. The service, however, wasn’t as good as it used to be. Waiting for drinks, fetching our own wine & could have genuinely walked out without paying as no-one seemed interested. Hopefully just an off-day.

In one word. Incredible. Went here for our anniversary and were blown away by every dish on the tasting menu, even the ones we were dubious about on paper. There wasn't a single course where we did not clear our plates. The wine flight was great and the food perfect. Perfectly flavoured, perfectly portioned, perfectly decadent. Probably one of our very best celebratory dining experiences. We want to go back to try their different seasonal menus. I am uploading pictures with my terrible descriptions of each dish that don't do the food justice at all. From start to finish, an experience we won't likely forget soon. Update: Still as good as ever. I especially loved the Hazelnut souffle and the amazing seafood course (I had to have the Plaice replaced with Hake because I'm allergic, they were really gracious about it). There wasn't a single dish I did not enjoy. We will be going back, I'm sure. I will say, though, I love Salt in Stratford-upon-Avon as much, maybe just a tad bit more, because they feel a bit more adventurous. Ah, you can't go wrong either.

Lovely place but the food was overly salty at times. Had the tasting menu which was lovely and great portions, food overall was excellent, but the crab soup was exceptionally salty (maybe was meant to be taste of the ocean sort of soup?), as was the sauce provided with the duck breast. Service was a bit spotty. took 2 courses for them to realise my partners drink was empty and on the third appearance take the empty glass away, and with constantly changing waiters we were asked twice if we would like another drink, to which we then awkwardly have to reply that another person had taken our order already. Tall gentlemen with glasses was an exceptional waiter and should be be the standard of everyone else, serving to the right of the lady first, then the right of the man, where as other members of staff just plonk their items on the edge of the table closest to the door they walked in (these are niggles that I would not even think about if the restaurant was not michellin starred hense it hasn't affected the score). Overall a great experience, with top quality food and atmosphere, but a few little niggles that you would expect to be better for a 9 year michellin star restaurant

Lunch The Cross Fine dining in a gastropub ⭐️ After driving in cold snowing conditions, we arrived to a lovely smiling greeting from Pavel, the general manager. We were seated next to a very cosy roaring fire, which soon warmed us up. Located in Kenilworth ,Warwickshire, The Cross is an award-winnin pub and has held a Michelin ⭐️ for over six years, along with three AA Rosettes and Top50gastropubs. The Cross is housed in a Grade II listed 19th-century inn and has a casual atmosphere with informal but attentive service. The main dining room is a former school room that leads to a cosy and welcoming bar - previously a butcher's shop. There are a choice of dining options. From a tasting menu £105pp A la Carte choose 3 courses £80pp The exceptional value 3 course lunch £45pp which we chose. Includes some delightful snacks and freshly baked sourdough. I went here on recommendation as part of my 80th birthday celebrations. However I just wish I had read the TripAdvisor reviews before I came. Fortunately I celebrated my birthday many times over a period of 11 days with various groups of Friends both in the morning and in the evening so it didn't affect me as badly as it might have done. I'll start with what's good about the place the building with a working water wheel and the setting next to the river Avon, on a lovely warm summer's day it is idyllic magical wonderful. The staff seemed pleasant and helpful as well although somewhat chaotically inefficient, so even though the food was terrible the setting was superb. We came here for a Sunday roast because I get fed up with the rather mediocre roasts there's a lot of pubs do them for about £15 so I thought well I'll pay more I should get something really good. We chose the trio of meats for two and it was the second dearest thing on the menu as the most expensive thing was Chateaubriand. What you get is a platter of meats beef sirloin roast chicken and belly pork with crackling. You get another platter with lots of vegetables on it plus at least two more containers with more vegetables so you do get a lot. So exactly what went wrong. The plates came nice and warm hot decent size I thought that's a good sign hot plates and about five minutes later the platter of meats came two thin slices of sirloin Grey in colour no sign of Pink two incinerated bits of belly pork and half a roast chicken that looked okay. I tried a bit of the chicken thigh just to check that things were hot it was hot and it was fine. Then we waited and we waited and eventually the veg started to arrive between seven or ten minutes later meanwhile the meat was going a bit cold. Anyway I put some veg on my plate and started to eat and it was stone cold even though it had only just come from the kitchen and I don't mean luke warm I mean cold like it's come out the fridge and not been heated up which is probably what happened, that particularly applied to the cauliflower cheese. Anyway I got the waiter and told him the veg was cold but instead of replacing all of the veg he just took one bowl of it and replaced it but left the rest. I got him back and said but all of the veg is cold not just that bit, oh I see well what do you want me to replace, I said all of the veg and the Yorkshire puddings as well please, this is where I made a mistake I should have told them to take the whole lot away because the meat was getting cold by now but unfortunately I didn't think correctly. So all of the veg and Yorkshires were brought out again things were hot bit the meat was by now a bit lukewarm and I start eating again. The bowl of peas kale and leeks this is almost impossible to describe it was so revolting, there was a drop of water at the bottom of the bowl with the peas floating in it and then bits of kale the leeks were cut in thin slices but were not cooked at all so if you like the flavour of raw leaks which I don't because they don't taste pleasant like a spring onion even though they are an onion it was an absolute joke and a nightmare, revolting. The cauliflower cheese was ok nothing special but hot and edible. There were some roast vegetables they were floppy not at all Pleasant. The Yorkshire puddings were ok. The roast potatoes which I think is probably the highlight of a roast dinner, apparently cooked in garlic with rosemary no flavour of garlic and no visible rosemary or flavour. They were soft on the outside not crispy but not fluffy on the inside they were rubbish they were not worth eating because if I want to stick a load of calories down my gizzard I make sure the food is tasty and I have a real thing about good roast potatoes I do them myself. I can't remember how many times I complained I was polite though, it isn't necessarily the waiters fault is it it's the people in the kitchen and the management because there was just a lack of communication generally. Next the gravy we had two lots because it came with the two lots of vegetables, one was very thin and pale Brown the other one slightly thicker and a richer Brown both were hideously salty foul vile repulsive I cannot tell you how dreadful this so-called gravy was. I wonder if it had a lot of monosodium glutamate in it because the Salty flavour was not quite like common salt. Without hesitation it was the most foul gravy I've ever had the misfortune to taste so I couldn't really enjoy the Yorkshire puddings no gravy to put on them. The belly pork with crackling the whole thing was like a rock ridiculously overcooked and such tiny pieces two little squares. The chicken thigh was fine the chicken breast was so dry and of course it was Luke warm by this time but never mind. There's no point getting cross or angry because it's spoils your day things happen you know it's life it's just unfortunate it happened to us on my 80th birthday celebrations so we only ate a bit of this meal despite the fact we were both really hungry. I said to the waiter I've finished with that I really need to talk to the manager please and he said don't worry sir we've already informed the manager he will come and talk to you. There was no argument no disagreement they accepted it was a complete and utter disaster. So you can see why it gets well over a thousand terrible reviews. Why aren't they learning from their mistakes and failures. Why isn't head office intervening. I'm a retired school teacher when schools fail they get put into special measures and a Hit Squad comes in and turns everything around. Well surely the parent company Mitchells and Butlers has some kind of Hit Squad and surely it must see it's got over a thousand terrible reviews but they're not doing anything about it which is such a shame considering the building and the beautiful setting etc. One pleasant gesture done by the management they brought me a chocolate brownie with happy birthday on it, they also waived the bill and the drinks were free so they did try but there's just something wrong with the place how it is run what the staff are doing in the kitchen I mean it's just awful. It's Fawlty Towers without the humour no Basil and no Manuel. Do visit the place on a lovely warm summer's day but I suggest just have a few drinks and then leave.

The Falcon is now a fab place to visit, not only for its gorgeous interior, but also for the impeccable service and great food. We've been a few times over the last few months and love it. I would say there was once when Sunday dinner was not the best but the rest of the time we can't fault it. And the last time I took my mum for a drink, they stoked the fire and we sat next to it with 2 large lovely glasses of red and it felt like heaven. Returning today for Sunday dinner :)

No ambience, couldn’t hear anyone else sat on our own table. Rushed into ordering drinks and food. Glasses were dirty. Roast was cold all round, potatoes burnt, vegetables were hard and undercooked, gravy was greasy and no flavour at all. Boyfriend had upset stomach after having the beef. Awful experience will definitely not be returning. Go elsewhere in Kenilworth or in Warwick don’t waste your money.
