The Cross at Kenilworth in Warwick

Absolutely sublime. We visited on a Thursday evening, so the atmosphere was very calm, the staff were incredibly helpful and attentive from the moment we walked in. The food was incredible, we had the crab tartlette, venison broth, monkfish and steak, followed by pavlova and a delicious hazelnut soufflé. Two very happy diners and would happily visit again one day.

The food was of very high quality, we had the à la carte rather than the tasting menu. The crab tart and tuna tataki were both very good as were the amuse-bouche. The Hereford beef was melt in mouth outstanding with incredible jus. The soufflé and pavlova were also recommendable. I didn’t think the service or decor were 1* standard, the part of the restaurant we were in could have been any pub in the country. The service was slow at times, and not particularly engaging. But worth it for the food!

Food generally very good but for a Michelin starred restaurant there were a couple of faux pas. Tasting menu courses were served with guests away from table. Service was generally good otherwise however there were a couple of long waits. Coffee at the end (supposedly a cappuccino) was very poor, weak and very milky.

The food is gorgeous as you would expect from a Michelin starred restaurant and the bill for the 4 of us was in excess of £500. I wasn’t a great fan of the environment if I am honest. Its looks a little dated and ‘cold’. The staff were lovely, with the exception of one who was surly and miserable. My biggest reason for the lack of 5 stars though (which I am sad about as the food was great) is we were sat as the last people at the end of service (probably no later than 10.15pm) and the staff came out in force and started spraying the tables around us with anti bac. If they wanted us to leave, I think it would have been far nicer to just say they were closing rather than spraying around us. Not what we expected for a restaurant at this price point.

This is a really outstanding restaurant. One which I have visited several times. Food and service have both been exceptional on every visit. Even at 2.30pm on a Sunday when they were beginning to clean down the kitchen, food and service were immaculate. Have brought my infant baby along several times and we were always made to feel very comfortable. It's really worth a try, you will not be disappointed. For the experience and quality, I'd say it's good value.

We enjoyed a delicious tasting menu lunch for Mother’s Day along with our toddler. The restaurant staff were very attentive and simply put, excellent. The food was delicious and again, the staff very accommodating in tweaking the menu for us, which was very much appreciated. A very enjoyable afternoon. Thank you

Wonderful place to visit for a special occasion. The service is exceptional and the food sublime. The taster menu is highly recommended and is more of a food experience than just a meal.

I bought my wife three Michelin star restaurant visits for Christmas and this was the second stop. On approach, it looked tired and shabby on the front side of the building, but once inside, it is very nice. Sadly, I was cold for my whole meal. My feet were freezing! My wife laughed as it is normally her who suffers with cold feet, but maybe it was because I sat by an outside wall. I needed warmth but sadly the fire wasn't on! As for food, the nibbles were excellent as was the bread. My starter and main was OK but I have certainly had better. My wife was happy with hers and I did wish I had chosen what she had. It would have been a nicer experience if I hadn’t had ice block feet. Staff were friendly and efficient. Not top of my return list but I may try again but on a warmer day!

We ate here for my friends birthday and it did not disappoint. Everything and everyone were lovely, definitely some of the best food you can get! I highly would recommend the treat.

Food was excellent and we had some excellent wines. Staff were very friendly and attentive as individuals but unfortunately the team didn't seem to be working together at times. We were offered a drink to start but barely had time for a couple of sips before the first course and glass of wine came out so we had to rush this. At other points food was coming out before the wine. Seems picky but these are the details you expect with a Michelin star.

What a gem. Super food and a delightful experience

The food at the Cross was exceptional, it has certainly earned its reputation for fine dining. The combination of flavours and presentation was a delight to the senses. A personal highlight being the duck breast I had for my main. The crispy duck egg starter was also very tasty with the hazelnut souffle dessert being the weakest offering of the three courses. Despite the flowery presentation of your server pouring hot chocolate sauce into the top of the souffle into the shape of a cross, the texture was quite unpleasant and the flavour was lacking. Giving you the mouth feel of a vaguely nutty curdled egg. Having tried the tiramisu of someone else in my party, I can confidently say, that is the superior option. Furthermore, despite the service being very polite and attentive when present at the table. We did end up waiting quite a long time to not only order but also between courses. This was supplemented during the first half of our meal with complimentary entrees and bread basket. But when paying £85 per person, you don't expect to be waiting 40+ minutes between my starter and main course with no check ins from the servers. The Cross fell victim to this again with dessert. Some of my party ordered coffee in place of dessert, but instead of it all coming out at once, the coffees arrived 20 minutes before the desserts. It was very busy the night we attended so maybe they were short on staff. Food wise The Cross is everything you'd expect, but the service let it down on this occasion.

This is my second visit and yet again the tasting menu was incredible! Wine flight complimented perfectly and the service was impeccable and personable….an all round perfect evening for my friends birthday. Thanks so much to all the team!!

Great Michelin star restaurant in the Midlands. Amazing fresh ingredients cooked perfectly. Staff is very professional and kind. Booking is necessary at least a week/10 days in advance. The hazelnut soufflé is one of the best dessert we ever had.

Superb experience from start to finish. Precise cooking and faultless service from Pawel and the team. Special shout out to the crab soup and I must also note the wine list has something for everyone. Many thanks and we'll see you soon!

Lunch amazing, particularly the sea bream with lobster sauce. The only shame was having the petit fours, with the coffee, cut in half rather than one each.

Wonderful food as you would expect from a great restaurant like this. The Pork for main and the Apple and doughnut dessert was a master class in gastronomy. Anyone wanting somewhere special for a meal, look no further than The Cross.

I have been to the Cross a few times and it never disappoints. I would recommend going for the tasting many and have a wonderful and relaxing evening. The vegetarian tasting menu is also delicious. The location is also very good, 2 minutes from Kenilworth castle or the park, which makes this a great place for a romantic dinner.

Very expensive but the food is great. Staff have strong French accents, but they are very friendly. It's also a bit posh for my liking, but its some of the best food i've eaten.

Absolutely delicious food in a sumptuous but relaxed setting. The wait staff were so friendly and accommodating, even with our one year old little terror (who thoroughly enjoyed his meal, and sampling ours)

There are no words to describe the dining experience at the Cross. It is pricey but you get what you paid for. The flavours, the presentatio, the service are all 5 star!!! Would definitely recommend if you ever visit Kenilworth.

After a break of 4 years, we had lunch here today & the food is still as good as ever. The cooking is absolutely magnificent. The service, however, wasn’t as good as it used to be. Waiting for drinks, fetching our own wine & could have genuinely walked out without paying as no-one seemed interested. Hopefully just an off-day.

The lunch menu was outstanding in every way at what I'd consider really a quite incredible price-quality ratio. If you're in the West Midlands, this place is worth a detour.

In one word. Incredible. Went here for our anniversary and were blown away by every dish on the tasting menu, even the ones we were dubious about on paper. There wasn't a single course where we did not clear our plates. The wine flight was great and the food perfect. Perfectly flavoured, perfectly portioned, perfectly decadent. Probably one of our very best celebratory dining experiences. We want to go back to try their different seasonal menus. I am uploading pictures with my terrible descriptions of each dish that don't do the food justice at all. From start to finish, an experience we won't likely forget soon. Update: Still as good as ever. I especially loved the Hazelnut souffle and the amazing seafood course (I had to have the Plaice replaced with Hake because I'm allergic, they were really gracious about it). There wasn't a single dish I did not enjoy. We will be going back, I'm sure. I will say, though, I love Salt in Stratford-upon-Avon as much, maybe just a tad bit more, because they feel a bit more adventurous. Ah, you can't go wrong either.

Lovely place but the food was overly salty at times. Had the tasting menu which was lovely and great portions, food overall was excellent, but the crab soup was exceptionally salty (maybe was meant to be taste of the ocean sort of soup?), as was the sauce provided with the duck breast. Service was a bit spotty. took 2 courses for them to realise my partners drink was empty and on the third appearance take the empty glass away, and with constantly changing waiters we were asked twice if we would like another drink, to which we then awkwardly have to reply that another person had taken our order already. Tall gentlemen with glasses was an exceptional waiter and should be be the standard of everyone else, serving to the right of the lady first, then the right of the man, where as other members of staff just plonk their items on the edge of the table closest to the door they walked in (these are niggles that I would not even think about if the restaurant was not michellin starred hense it hasn't affected the score). Overall a great experience, with top quality food and atmosphere, but a few little niggles that you would expect to be better for a 9 year michellin star restaurant

A good place for conversations over lunch. Attending servers are friendly, whilst I didn’t take any wine, I overheard parings of wine and dishes. Good parking area too. 午餐时聊天的好地方！食物很棒。适合有文化和礼貌的人。

Lovely food, . It is expensive a once a year treat .Had the tasting menu was lovely except the duck, did eat it but was tougher than should have been. Did receive an apology and free drink. There was an unusually long wait between courses two and three which is why service scored only 4

What can I say? It's a Michelin starred restaurant for a reason but not stuck up like others. Worth every penny.

Lunch The Cross Fine dining in a gastropub ⭐️ After driving in cold snowing conditions, we arrived to a lovely smiling greeting from Pavel, the general manager. We were seated next to a very cosy roaring fire, which soon warmed us up. Located in Kenilworth ,Warwickshire, The Cross is an award-winnin pub and has held a Michelin ⭐️ for over six years, along with three AA Rosettes and Top50gastropubs. The Cross is housed in a Grade II listed 19th-century inn and has a casual atmosphere with informal but attentive service. The main dining room is a former school room that leads to a cosy and welcoming bar - previously a butcher's shop. There are a choice of dining options. From a tasting menu £105pp A la Carte choose 3 courses £80pp The exceptional value 3 course lunch £45pp which we chose. Includes some delightful snacks and freshly baked sourdough. Starters Wild Garlic, Potato & Buttermilk Soup Cured & Grilled Mackerel Red Meat Radish Salad, Blood Orange & Sesame Vinaigrette Mains Fillet of Cornish Skate Crushed Potato, Samphire, Lemon, Capers, Brown Butter Sauce Slow Cooked Wiltshire Pork Belly Puy Lentils, Hispi Cabbage, Pork Jus with Apple Cider Vinegar, Trotter and Agen Prune Desserts Passion Fruit Tart Coconut Dulce De Leche Ice Cream Cashel Blue Endive & Apple Salad, Kentish Walnut Oil Dressing Everything is top-notch, from the incredible food to the service and decor. Highly recommended.

Thank you so much for an absolutely fantastic lunch. I brought my 12 year old son for his birthday for a vegan tasting menu. The food and service were out of this world and they made his birthday so special. It's a really cozy friendly space with incredible food and we will definitely be back.

Expensive but certainly worth it!

Simply one of the best Michelin starred restaurants, we have been to. We had the most fantastic experience when we chose to have dinner at the cross in Kenilworth. The four of us enjoyed a fantastic three course meal. Every dish was exceptional. Customer Service was faultless and everything was delivered in a fantastic atmosphere. We will definitely be returning again.

Forgot to take pictures in this awesome restaurant. Had lunch here on a Sunday and it was very very good; the staff, mouthwatering dishes. Only feedback I would like to share: think again about the prices. While I’ve had dinner in many Michelin (star) restaurants, this one was a bit too costly

Very underwhelmed by the vegan tasting menu at the cross. Have thoroughly enjoyed both the meat and vegan options at other Michelin star restaurants in the midlands. Felt like all the effort went into the meat menu. If you're going to offer a vegan menu put the same effort in please. A 2 person £250 bill felt very undeserving of the food served. I would sadly not recommend.

We love eating lunch here. We went to celebrate our anniversary and we enjoyed the lunch menu. It's an incredible quality for its price. We specially loved the soup and the fish, they were superb.

Incredible food, as you'd expect from a Michelin star restaurant. Service was perfect, always there a moment before you need a top up of your glass, or when you wonder when the next course will arrive. Epic food though. The soufflé! The egg! Great atmosphere. But... if it's hot, you'll probably need to ask for the Aircon to be switched on, even if the windows and doors are open. It can get a little toasty.

Lunch with my wife daughter and partner at the cross today. Absolutely fabulous delicious and perfection. Great service , friendly welcome by the front of house team and every course was faultless. Highly recommend this establishment well worthy of its Michelin star. Hearty portions for a tasting menu as well my favourite was the crispy duck egg. Amazing soufflé Lovely selection of wines. We had a lovely meal at the Cross as a large group of friends in the private room. Food was fantastic and staff very friendly. Would recommend.

Pros: Brilliant Experience! Tasting menu was delicious, wine was perfectly paired and staff were very friendly. Cons: My only qualm would be around allergy management, I broke out in hives right after dinner and I suspect they must have not been very careful about my shellfish allergy in the kitchen. I didn't even eat the crab/ lobster dish but my hives were very bad so they must have been cross contamination. If you have serious allergies, emphasize to them to be careful to avoid my ordeal!

Food fabulous - Service disappointing

Simply perfect! We had the tasting menu and some of us also had the wine flight. Every course was a delight, as was the wine. Dietary needs were carefully and creatively met. Cannot recommend it more highly, I’d give 6 stars if I could!

A great meal. Service excellent. Had tasting menu, six courses, all very flavoursome, good mix of fish and meat and wonderful chocolate souffle for dessert.

If going to a Michelin starred restaurant is about the experience, The Cross is awful. It was so hot and the chair was so uncomfortable that I couldn't wait to get out of there. The seven course tasting menu was reasonably good by British standards, but how good can a potato and cod be? At least the sommelier was quite knowledgeable about the wine which he recommended, although they didn't have the one we were looking for.

The service was impeccable, the food was incredible and the atmosphere was great. We were very well looked after. Great choice of wines.

We had such a lovely lunch at the Cross. The staff was super friendly and even gave us a special plate for our anniversary. The food was also perfect, I highly recommend the Cross, especially if you have something to celebrate it’s a safe choice!

Wonderful cooking Super service

The family have been to The Cross a number of times but this was my first time. The staff were attentive and friendly and the food was absolutely delicious and well thought out. A delightful menu and great atmosphere.

Really excellent food and service. The artichoke salad was fantastic and the venison just melted in the mouth. Deserves the Michelin star but I'm not sure I can stomach these prices for what you get.

Loved it. First time i've spent £100 on food per person for lunch, and I was wondering if it'd believe it was worth it. 3 of 6 courses in and I wasn't sure. It was nice enough but hadn't blown me away and the portions were very small. Well, onto the final courses and it built up and ultimately blew me away. The duck breast dish was stunning and the desert was out of this world. So, overall it was really enjoyable and I loved how it built towards the end to leave a really memorable experience. We'll be back!

Went for a dinner on a Friday night. Good points: - The food is amazing - The staff is friendly and polite - The ambiance of chic pub is very nice Only 1 bad point: - We ordered "A la carte" and the staff wasn't attentive to letting us order wines. We received our starters without having been asked if we wanted wine to go with it. We had to ask and the order was fullfilled fairly quickly. Although you could expect a little bit more attention for a restaurant of this standing. All in all it might be harsh to give it just 4 stars, but I do expect wine to be asked when fine dining.

What an incredible restaurant! We came here last night to celebrate my partner's birthday and from the moment we arrived the team at The Cross were fantastic! They were all so friendly, kind and knowledgeable - it made the service a brilliant experience! The food was unbelievable and beautifully presented. We were blown away by how special everything was!
