The Sardine Factory Restaurant in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

We were very pleased with our meal, and the staff were very pleasant. I did have a complaint but didn’t mention it at the time. We were seated quite near the kitchen and could see the chefs working away. I saw the young chef plating up and added something to a dish and then licked the spoon, wipe it with a tea towel and then put it in his pocket. With all the goings on with coronavirus I find this very unacceptable.

We dined at this lovely restaurant tonight. Excellent food, excellent service. Clean and sanitary environment for safe dining. Highly recommended.

Fantastic food. And the staff were lovely. We went twice. No were else in Looe is remotely close to this standard. It's modern and tasty.

Ate on a Friday night, which was busy but plenty of room and space between diners given covid rules. Food was excellent. Considering this place is a Michelin bib the value was also excellent. 2 courses, bottle of wine and tip £73. Will return

Booked for midweek lunch during December 2020 Covid Tier 1 period. Lovely front of house staff and very well prepared and presented modern style food. Menu focuses on fish but has other dishes and offers a good choice. So impressed that we booked for the following day too. Good location with views over the river. Clean and modern interior and facilities.

The Sardine Factory restaurant has reopened and is again a fantastic experience. There are some great new additions to the menu and the Goats Cheese Mousse was sublime. The Slow Cooked Beef Cheek with Orzo pasta is so tasty and rich. To finish off, I had to try the rolled mince pie and I wasn't disappointed, matching the quality of the other new dishes. The existing choices of Crispy Squid and Moorland Sirloin Steak were perfect too. Great service from the team topped off the evening.

Completely Covid safe lunch. Had the linguini it was absolutely delicious, my friend had the burger which was also great. Generous portions and lovely wine to accompany the meal.

We ate here during a recent stay in Looe. Our meal was excellent, hot and very tasty. The staff were excellent too, very friendly and helpful. We were very impressed with the COVID-19 measures, and felt very safe there. All the tables were well spaced apart. Our meal was very good value for money, and I would highly recommend this restaurant.

Had a lovely lunch at the Sardine Factory. The food was fresh and tasty, we had the sardines for our main meal and they were delicious.The service was spot on, and even with the social distancing issue the restaurant still managed to create a nice atmosphere.For this quality of food I considered it good value for money.

Roast beef tender and rare you could cut with a spoon!! Roast Chicken tender and moist, in the words of my mum a Yorkshire pudding so big you could sleep in it!! Service excellent and great value for money. We will be back.

Walked in, sign tells you to hand sanitise and go upstairs..... we did.... to be greeted with a rude man shouting they were full. Maybe try putting a polite sign downstairs if you are full rather than shout at a family with three children. No suggestion of an alternative time. No apology. Really rude and unnecessary.

Booked on line on a recommendation but a chaotic arrival. Disorganised. Couldn't at first find our reservation. Showed my phone to clarify. Eventually sat down. Waited 15 minutes to order whilst a waitress dashed about serving later arrivals first. Screaming brats. Walked out after using the loo.

As this restaurant is rated quite highly on Trip Advisor we thought we would give it a try. Being foody people we have visited many restaurants of all genres and price points and from our experiences I can honestly say that this restaurant is over priced and the food is mediocre. My husband had the cockles as a starter which tasted as they came from a jar, and for his main, chose 'whole baked fish, simply served in it's own juices'. We were very surprised that this was in fact sardines; 5 of, served with a wedge of lemon. As there was also sardines on the menu as a separate dish it did seem unusual. Neither dish was adequate and if he hadn't had the cheese board to finish he would have left hungry. In fact the cheese board was the best dish of the meal!My starter was the smoked haddock scotch egg which was okay, but didn't contain much fish! My main was hake served with sagg aloo and an onion bhaji, very bland, very disappointing. I finished with a affogato and the ice cream was delicious. Again the dessert was the best of my courses.Including a bottle of white wine which I do not think matched it's price our total bill was £91

We enjoyed a delicious lunch of fresh sardines with a glass or two of white wine followed by rice pudding with toffee apple. An enjoyable long lunch on a wet and windy autumnal day. Thank you to the chef & his team and the efficient but friendly front of house. ***** from us.

We went here one night for my birthday meal during a weekend stay in Looe. This place was definitely the best meal we had while staying in Looe!For starter we had the calamari and the haddock scotch egg. Both incredible and so fresh! For main we had the crab linguine and white fish with onion bhaji. The curry flavours with the fish was stunning (I highly recommend that dish!). We also had a side of crab mac 'n' cheese which was THE BEST mac 'n' cheese I've ever had! Dessert was incredible: warm chocolate pudding with peanut vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce. It had actual chunks of peanuts in the ice cream.It feels a little pricey if you go all out but definitely worth the money. The inside of the restaurant is decorated lovely, very modern, and a few tables have views over the harbour. Social distancing done very well here, it felt very secure and safe. Books up quick so I'd book in advance!

Visited for a midweek dinner and was not disappointed at all. Wonderful atmosphere and decor, with the most friendly staff (who may I add were working super hard in a full restaurant and just 3 girls running around). The food was absolutely amazing with great added touches to the plating of the meals, cannot fault it at all. If ever back in the area will definitely be visiting for dinner again.

Lovely restaurant overlooking the river, staff super nice and accommodating. Food ridiculously excellent value and superb quality. Food prepared with knowledge, care and expertise. Really enjoyed dining here. Having tried a certain RS restaurant in Padstow, this certainly beat our experience there. Staff friendly and attentive. Watching the chefs prepare the dishes you can really see the care and detail they put into each dish. We had chowder and haddock scotch egg for starters with side of cockles. Main of Hake and sag aloo, pork chop in cider sauce etc, finished by cornish rice pudding with butterscotch apples and lemon possett with blackberries and sorbet.. outstanding thank you..

This is our new favourite in Looe - the food was beautifully presented, fish cooked perfectly and we were very well looked after. Will definitely be back.

Firstly it must be said that the front of house staff are as good as can be. However the menu, has felt stail since the beginning and is loaded with carbs! Probably not the best idea to have an open view kitchen with some of the practices in the kitchen (not saying they are shocking, but probably not the best during C19).Also totally get that this is a fish restaurant but when you only advertise two meat dishes and then don’t have one in stock it’s not the best.

This is a very nice restaurant that offers fresh and tasty food with excellent service. Clean and tidy and really stands out from the normal.

We were lucky to be placed in a private dining area with views over the harbour. The food was amazing and couldn’t fault anything. Sophie our waitress for the evening was so accommodating and attentive and a real credit to the restaurant. Will definitely be back soon.

I haven’t been here for two years and last time I came the food was good but service a bit hit and miss. We are here last night Friday 2 October, and overall the experience was very good. Yes the service could have been slicker but given three girls were taking orders, dispensing drinks and serving they did very well. The crab and avocado starter on focaccia was delicious- lots of lovely textures and the Hake with sagaloo a main was very good. For me the place is a bit too brightly light but that is just a personal view.

We made a mistake by booking the wrong date without realising. However, they kindly squeezed us in which was amazing as we was only visiting the area for a short time! We had 4 courses and wanted seconds of each again! Really good value for money too and would definitely recommend. The waitress made us feel welcome and tended to us well.

This was the best meal I have had. Period. I had the fish & chips.. home made tartar sauce, home made mushy peas, caramelised lemon, chips like I’ve never tasted before, the list goes on. I cannot fault a thing about this meal and restaurant. Covid measures are in place, everyone wears masks where they are ment to. Cutlery and napkins come on plastic bags. Hand sanitizer on table. 3 of us. Fantastic value.

Visited for Sunday lunch recently - fabulous food and great service thank you. Really well socially distanced in these difficult times but didn’t detract from our experience or enjoyment.

We were greeted on arrival by a friendly front of house team who wished me a Happy Birthday and then led us to our seats.We were both seriously impressed by the cleanliness of the restaurant and that our knifes, forks and serviettes were in a plastic bag on the table. We had a lovely window seat to which we could view most of the harbour.We opted for the chorizo sausages, sour dough bread and butter and the Summer Tomato and Mozzerella Salad. The chorizo sausages were fantastic and I opted for the sourdough bread and butter as an accompaniment. The butter was so light and fresh with a great crispy onion topping. The summer tomato and mozzarella salad was also amazing. For the main, we had the Fish ‘N Chips and the Nelson Burger. The Fish ‘N Chips were amazing - it had bubbly, crispy and light batter and the cod was to die for. The chips were lovely and crispy. The peas were simply the best peas we’ve eaten. They were creamy and had a slight hint of mint. The Nelson Burger was a Big Mac on steroids! The beef was top quality and melted in the mouth. It was lovely. It was also accompanied by a bucket load of skinny fries and great homemade mayonnaise. All in all, a lovely way to spend a couple of hours on my birthday - all for a reasonable price. Thoroughly recommended.

The food here is fantastic! We had lots of the starters and small plates which were all delicious. Amazing chowder, crispy squid, scotch egg, cod’s roe etc plus the mains and puddings were delicious too. We’ll be back!

Food was pretty good overall but service was not good - staff too busy chatting - waited 20 minutes before we had a drink. Menu could have been more interesting and varied

The location is great sat near the harbour boasting a lovely view. The service from start to finish was excellent and the staff were friendly and welcoming. Regarding food I had the scotch egg and mac n’ cheese which were both very tasty, my partner had the crispy squid which we had to send back because it was smothered in sweet chilli sauce, normally it just comes in a pot. We asked for a new portion without the sauce and there were questions asked.Overall very good and would return.

This restaurant is bright, clean and contemporary in a lovely location with views of the marina. The service was excellent and there was an open kitchen where you could see the chefs preparing the food (or standing texting on their phone all night which is what one of them did rather than paying attention to the food)The seafood chowder was delicious and full of flavour but the crab linguine and the seafood paella were both quite bland - more of a lemon citrus flavour in the linguine rather than any seafood taste. Food just a little disappointing for a restaurant that was in the Michelin Guide this year

This is a very popular restaurant so booking is recommended. We were so pleased we managed to get a table (i think it was a cancellation). There was an excellent choice of dishes on the menu and everything was beautifully presented. The service was friendly and efficient.

We have visited this restaurant many times now, pre covid and post covid and I can absolutely say that it is as fabulous as always! The food is outstanding and the staff are very welcoming and friendly. They have taken every step to ensure you are protected against the dreaded virus. Highly recommend.

Family of 4- 2 kids aged 18&20 in August. Staff very friendly and relatively good service but didn’t seem as though there were enough of them - chefs shouting ‘service’ quite a lot and having to wait for plates to be delivered to tables.Starter of chowder was very tasty and very rich.Main course of crab linguine was ok although difficult to find any crab!Fish and chips, steak and burger all beautifully presented and tasty- very fresh.Shiraz - just right .We really enjoyed it however the main disappointment was that we felt rushed to go by 9.15 ( our booking was at 8)- we were the last ones in the restaurant. We were told it was because of Covid but they don’t even open Mon or Tues and I’m guessing they could employ more staff to cope ( different shifts?)The ambience could be improved - seemed a bit stark.Really good to see the chefs preparing the food though.Would def go back post Covid,Probably one of the better restaurants in Looe for sure

Second visit have to say food was fabulous, service was just right no pushing out the door. We had booked beforehand but for Friday not Thursday, but we turned up at designated time wrong day and luckily they had just had a cancellation do we took it. Pickled cockles were delightful children portions just right and the chocolate brownie was a dream. The chef got it right for all the meals well done.

Best sweet chilly squid I had, followed by tasteless whitebaits and an overpriced crab toast. Main was the crab linguini which was ok but nothing special. Won’t be visiting again when in Looe.

Beautifully presented food that tasted great. I would say portion sizes are on the smaller side but with great care. The restaurant has a lovely decor - though maybe a tad bright? Great service and good value for such great quality food.

Lovely food and service, very Covid aware with good table spacing and staff awareness. I had the baby squid starter which was excellent and the Hake for my main course which was also very good. Very high quality cusine at reasonable prices.

Ate lunch and dinner across 2 different days. Food was excellent, although a little on the expensive side. Loads of choice and specials. Well organised and good distancing etc.

We had a lovely lunch, the staff were very friendly and efficient. I had the crab tagliatelle which was lovely and husband had fish and chips. Booking is essential and would recommend, nice setting on the estuary.

Had a lovely evening meal and felt very Covid safe. Tables very well spaced and all staff wearing masks. Hand gel on every table. I am a returning customer and my only problem is that the gluten free menu is appalling. Most restaurants these days will offer GF pasta, make GF batter and GF sauce. Even the brownies weren’t GF and they’re so easy to make. Extremely limited choice, only one dessert and very restricted starters.I don’t expect GF bread because it’s usually vile, but please can the chef make an effort as there are so many people these days with a gluten intolerance/allergy. Otherwise fabulous meal, immaculate place, lovely staff and reasonably priced.

We came to Looe for 5 nights and ate out every night and this was definitely our favourite restaurant. Lovely friendly helpful staff and the food was delicious. 4 of us ate here, different starters, mains and desserts, all cooked lovely. We sat right next to where they were cooking and watched with admiration as they cooked such great food. The restaurant is well set up to ensure it is COVID secure. We booked this before arriving and would recommend you do the same as it’s popular and gets booked up. The restaurant is set in a lovely location and the interior is lovely too.

Our first restaurant meal since lockdown and we were not disappointed. Cockles to start and a scallop followed by lovely fresh haddock. Pleasant surroundings with a lovely view of the river. Excellent service, can’t wait to return.

We spent a week in lovely Looe and tried out a number of restaurants. On several occasions we tried to order a take away meal here after being told in person that would not be a problem and they were openly advertising this service. However for three nights in a row when we tried to order one it wasnt available or we would have to come back much latter and it "might" be available then! So my recommendation to them would be to stop advertising a service that they cant deliver!

I’d spent a bit of time reviewing the best place to take my boyfriend for his birthday. As this place was Michelin recommended and based on the reviews I chose to book here. But unfortunately we didn’t find our expectations were lived up to. There were some great aspects such as the waitress moved us to a nice window seat when we arrived (restaurant is in a great location) but other than that the service didn’t feel anything special. I had the scotch egg starter which was very nice. But I was very disappointed in my main of the crab linguine. One being the portion size was massive and actually quite off putting because of how big it was. Easily enough to feed four people in my opinion and I love pasta! But also I found the lime in the dish too overpowering. Probably just my personal taste but it ruined the dish for me. My partner had steak which he really enjoyed but we both found £5 for a side of green veg to go with the meal a bit steep. It was ok but unfortunately nothing special for us.

First time we have visited The Sardine Factory since before lock down. As expected a great experience was had by my wife and I. The waiting staff were brilliant as usual, Sophie and her colleague looked after us well. Social distancing was done well without being obtrusive. The food was great, we choose a number of small plates deviled white bait, crispy calamari with sweet chilli sauce, haddock scotch egg with curried mayo, smoked cod roe with bacon bits, humous with tortillas and white crab foccia. For us we broke with tradition and had dessert, chocolate brownie with caramel sauce and ice cream and lemon posset with sea buckthorn sorbet and raspberries, this was the star of the meal, amazing. Only slight disappointment was the crab dish which we thought was expensive for the quantity but did not diminish the overall experience. Can't wait to go back in August with dear friends, already booked in. Thank you guys.

Perfect atmosphere, delicious food and desserts to die forWe dined here near the end of our holiday and will return to taste the Michelin star chef's food in the future. We have been visiting Looe up to 4 times a year over the last 25 years and had some really lovely meals. However this was by far the best. Friendly and efficient service. Fantastic quality and value for money food and you could see the chefs preparing food in kitchen. Cannot recommend this place enough.

Although this is primarily a fish restaurant we had a beef Sunday lunch here which was stunning. The staff were very helpful and chatty. Overall a great experience

We have a Travelzoo voucher booking for four people for next Wednesday. As we are all over 70 I phoned to cancel but was immediately told not to worry, the offer will be extended until we feel comfortable to come.What a brilliant attitude; thank you.

First class ambiance, service, presentation, and delicious food...all perfect....Would recommend the smoked haddock scotch eggs...perfection.Best to ring and book - but we could not speak highly enough of this excellent restaurant. Went for a light lunch to this modern delightful restaurant..........crab salad delicious, fish and chips very good, light batter and super dooper chips , pasta with crab etc............lovely staff and crisp service....basic white wine was very good, all in all , well worth going.The kitchen showed innovation throughout , presentation excellent , flavours stood out...........a light touch by the person in charge, well done !!

We attended this restaurant as a birthday celebration’. The place was so cold (6 out of 25 customers had their coats on throughout their meal) we asked if it might be possible to make the place a little warmer. ‘The heatings on’ came the sneered reply. I ordered the “HOT” linguine. As described in the menu but asked for it to be milder. “It is mild” another sneer & facial expressions to inform me of my stupidity. I pointed out it being printed as “HOT” linguine though. More sneered nonsense to, apparently “explain” the fact that hot means it’s mild & I’m stupid & an irritation for asking. Bottle of water arrived half an hour after ordering. No apology. Colouring was offered to the child with us. But never materialised after a long wait causing upset. So many more issues but to fast forward to the icing on the cake, we asked to pay. Oh DEAR. Having endured hostility, angry body language & facial expressions, (starter plates still sat on the table at end of meal) etc We were asked if food was ok. We said that the ‘crab’ linguini’s weren’t good, tasted of strong cod liver oil flavour!! “Well you were asked during the meal” was our reply. I explained that Due to the fact that I am deaf, lip read, & whilst looking down at my meal am not also able to be aware of staff approaching table briefly. Seriously. We had felt so intimidated & unable even by then & had only just began to eat it that we couldn’t have said much. (I’ve also read mother crab linguine rip off style review already) I was effectively returning 3/4 of my meal,having been trying to force myself to eat it. The response to THIS was, “WELL TO BE HONEST YOU HAVE NOT BEEN THE NICEST CUSTOMERS ANYWAY” Where do you even begin?!?!?! I am horrified & gutted & very upset. How dare “Sofie the manager” behave this way? I asked that something be reflected on the bill & it was refused blank. I asked how I’d not been nice. She refused to answer & ordered me to enter my pin into the card machine. I asked again & because she wanted the significant sum of my money & I was holding the machine, she grasped at straws in a big way & said we’d not been nice as we had not “taken her advice when she had made recommendations on the menu”. Can only presume this ‘recommendation’ refers to the “the hot linguine IS mild” conversation or that it was just more non-sensical ad lib. They received more than £100 from us for this abuse & narcissism. Please don’t let this happen to you.

We popped in for an early dinner last Friday evening opting for the fish and chips, we were not disappointed. Cooked to perfection and the waiting staff were attentive and extremely pleasant. Thoroughly recommend eating here if you are in the town.

A manager who doesn’t understand the first rule of being a manager! Customer is always right . Literally everything that was said she had an answer for it . Cheep ingredients, cold atmosphere and generally restaurant!!!!!Was extremely cold ......(but the heating was on cocky facial expressions)the manager very confrontational! So this clearly shows lack of training,experience and communication for this industry is most certainly amiss.(cocky facial expression with the replay! Very professional)the kitchen staff all looked happy and created the only bit of nice feeling in the freezing cold restaurant no discount offered ! Extremely disappointing and sadly wasted my spending money for my two day holiday wish I had just thrown it in the sea although the money might go towards training for the manager.... please don’t waste your money here !!! Much warmer to stay home and eat a tin of tuna xxxx

We were given a voucher and were delighted with everything about our visit, would definitely recommend and visit again.

Had a fantastic lunch here with our 3 young children. Everything we ordered was lovely, fresh and beautifully presented. Crab Linguine and Bouillabaisse as adult mains were good choices. Kids fish and chips were top quality.

Good menu for the Travel Zoo offer and the food was very good. Bigger portions than expected. Nice, modern dining area, with lounge area too.

Took dinner here recently. Superb whitebait starter followed by fish & chips abd the hake. All were super and reasonable value for money. Charming, attentive table service. Nice decor great harbour views. Recommended.

We visited here for Saturday lunch on a very cold and wet January day.

The restaurant is upstairs above a Heritage Centre on the riverside in West Looe. There is a lift in the building. Tables are well spaced, some with river views and the decor is contemporary. There is a bar area and a seating area with sofas at the back. The kitchen is open and it was enjoyable watching the food being prepared in an ordered manner with each dish carefully presented and checked at the pass. Both fish and meat mains were well cooked and with an excellent balance of flavours. The same with the sweets. We felt the price of both food and drink were good value for the quality provided. Will definitely visit again.

Having first visited The Sardine Factory in September and been impressed I just had to dine here again whilst back in Looe a couple of months later. A new restaurant, modern and decorated to high standard but not out of place in Looe. The food I've had on my visits has been fantastic, I love seafood anyway but the dishes I've had I would definitely eat again. You don't get fresher than a seafood restaurant with a fishing boat moored outside. Charming location with a great view. The staff, thanks to all of you for outstanding service, can't wait to visit you again next time I'm in Looe.

This is a lovely restaurant with great decor. The service is great and the food is amazing. I had the lamb which was beautiful. Overall well priced and a great experience.

What a lovely little place. Our waitress was lovely and smiley. We had the fish & chips and crab tagliatelle which were excellent. Pudding was also lovely too. Great all round experience

Lovely venue right on the water. Four of us went for lunch on Sunday and everything was very good from service to timing to quality and price.

1st time here and having been a chef in London for over 25 years I can honestly say that apart from home this was one of the best Sunday lunches I have ever had. Melt in the mouth beef and port, lovely veg. and gravy. Service a bit slow especially bringing the drinks but they were pretty busy. Will defo. return....

Not only was the food 'out of this world' but the service and location was simply superb. I loved the open kitchen and watching the chef's busy at work. I would highly recommend the Sardine Factory to anyone.

Christmas Eve evening, we couldn’t have chosen a better place, the food was absolutely fantastic, beautifully fresh and so tasty. Four of us in our party and everyone thought exactly the same, compliments to the chef and the waitress’s for great service.

Sunday Lunch at the Sardine Factory is a relatively new addition. It was absolutely suberb. Good selection of vegetables and the nicest Sunday lunch I've had recently, will definately go again

Had the pleasure of Christmas traditional turkey dinner on Sunday 22nd December 2019. Excellent service and a stunning meal well presented, very flavoursome. High standard of hygiene and decor ! Thank you.

Great food, great location, great staff. Lucky to be local so get to visit this place often. Standard never changes, a pleasure to visit always (especially Sunday lunch!!)

Great selection of desserts, peanut butter was by far our favourite. Try and get in early as it does get busy.

We booked to go on a Saturday evening, as even though it is very quiet in Looe this time of year the restaurant was very busy. We were on holiday so wasn't sure how busy it would be. Being regulars travellers to Looe it was nice to have somewhere different to try. My husband and I are not massive fish fans but thought we would give something new a try and it was very good food. The presentation and flavours were lovely and I especially liked the granola on my panna cotta pudding. They also have non fish options.

Visited with my Wife and 2 kids whilst on holiday in Looe. Staff were very welcoming and accommodating to children. Restaurant was very nice, spacious and modern inside. Kitchen was open where I could see chefs going professionally about their business. Food and wine was amazing. Will go back again in my holiday next year!

I recently had a special family lunch here - this was a first visit and it didn’t disappoint. The restaurant was beautiful inside and out with large windows overlooking the river. The food was amazing - a choice of smaller plates or standard sized mains. Quality of ingredients was excellent all cooked and presented to a high standard. Staff were friendly and efficient and very helpful. Loved the food excellent value for money and would highly recommend if you are in Looe.

We arrived a little early and were put in the bar area for a few minutes with the menu and a drink whilst waiting for our table. When we were seated, the food arrived quickly, and we were able to see into the kitchen to see how hard the team were working. The fish was excellent - perfectly cooked, beautifully served, and with lovely side dishes. Thoroughly recommended!

We visited for my birthday whilst staying in Looe and couldn't understand why it was so quiet.

Not a single dish so far has failed our "taste test". This is our favourite Restaurant in Looe since every time we have visited so far we have been able to relax and enjoy the food. The chef(s) clearly taste check all the dishes, so that there is never that "oh dear" moment when things are not right. The sourdough bread is a good example, its obviously baked on the spot and has that delicious flavour with the kiln unsalted butter. Our favourite is the monkfish, but the John Dory we had last year was even more memorable. We did have to wait whilst out dish was cooked, but thought it was worth it.

We enjoyed a Saturday night dinner whilst staying at Talland Bay.
