The Saracens Head in Daventry

Came to the SH today following a recommendation from a friend. Cannot speak highly enough 10/10 food and service and would definitely return. The roast dinners are superb and the desserts are to die for. Can’t wait for my next visit!

Just had an amazing Sunday lunch at the Saracens Head tender meat Yorkshire pudding plus five veg I had lamb my partner had beef I followed it by a liqueur coffee with brandy excellent will differently be returning the staff and atmosphere very nice

Food was nice but the service was really poor .. we ordered a starter which did not come then the main courses arrived ! The bill was £50 per head .. really overpriced for what it was … I don’t mind paying for quality but that was not …shame as the food was not bad but it does not justify the bill …

Nice location, friendly wait staff. Food is terrible: soggy nan, crusty rice, tiny portion of curry straight from freezer to microwave but left in micro for too long. Not good...and a grand price for it.

Fantastic little pub, cosy atmosphere, staff were friendly and professional. Great menu with lots to choose from, food was cooked well and very tasty, best meal I've had out in a long time.

Visited here to celebrate 3 family birthdays & an anniversary but had an awful experience. We had advised when booking of the significance of the occasion but not once was this mentioned or acknowledged by staff. Our table was booked for 7.30 pm & on being seated we were advised that 3 items from the menu were unavailable - 20 percent of the main menu! How was this possible so early on a Saturday evening? It just reeks of mismanagement in the kitchen ordering & stock control. The kitchen would have known of the number of bookings & should have been better prepared. We wanted to leave but were persuaded by others in our party to stay. So wish we hadn't. Ordered from the remaining limited (over priced) menu. Not all of our group found anything to order for a main course & just had a starter. Of those that ordered the gammon steak was very salty, sea bass looked like it had been under a heat lamp too long & the venison left a lot to be desired. Interestingly after we had eaten our server asked "our chef wants to know what you thought of the venison?". If the chef really wanted to know he could have come and asked himself, of perhaps he knew it had been crucified? We had to go & find our own wine menu as one was never offered. We were however constantly pestered to buy more drinks. Our special occasion was totally ruined & this cannot been forgiven.

The first glass of dry Rosa wine was cheap and nasty. Second glass charged at the extortionate price of £12.20 !!!!! What a rip-off . Sitting relaxing on this beautiful evening to be spoilt by the kitchen staff having a heated argument using foul language... Come on, it's not acceptable... The saving grace was the attentive young lad who served us. He was very attentive and polite..

Been here on many occasions and have always had a lovely time. Great menu with plenty of selection. Very friendly staff.

What a disappointment- been going regularly for Sunday Lunch but today was terribly disappointed- the rare beef was overcooked and stringy - yorkshires rubbery - not their usual standard

Just love everything about The Saracen's Head and this is always a go-to place for lunch when I visit my Northampton friends - the team are always friendly, the food is always excellent and the pace of our visit never hurried - we were served by Libby and Grace today , great job - we'll see you soon

Always busy with a relaxing atmosphere. Friendly efficient service. Dog friendly bar. We have come here many times. Never fails to please. Good range of beers including guest ale. Food is carefully prepared and well presented.

I had the scallops for my starter. The scallops were the size of a tiny button ! The portion for £14 was definitely way overpriced. The service was very good .

Popped in for lunch and found this place to be absolutely stunning. From walking in from the car park to a wonderful smell (unusual for near to the toilets) to the amazing service and delicious sandwich menu. The beer and ale we had were great too and we sat by an open fire. We absolutely recommend this place

Visited here with friends for a meal. It’s a good menu with plenty of choice and quite creative and flavours were mostly good. We thought a lot of elements were great, however there were a few things to mention that were not so good. Starters, we all watched our hot starter go cold while we waited for one of our party to get theirs. It was a prawn cocktail dish that we were waiting for so no reason for it to be delayed. It spoiled starters for five people out of six as the pigeon and scallops would have been much nicer eaten at the temperature they were served at as opposed to cold. Not sure if they had to go to Iceland for the prawns, given the time taken to deliver the dish and the quality of the prawns. The smoked salmon on this dish seemed a bit mushy and not very fresh. The potatoes with the Guinea fowl tasted stale. The venison was a little tough. We had a cheese board and that had rotten grapes on it. We thought this was completely unacceptable and there is no excuse for this. We did not tip for service, the issues were not complicated and avoidable. Overall it was poor value for money for these reasons and we probably wouldn’t go back. Also, Sat nav takes you to Sandy Lane, which is shut, no diversion signs and no warning from the pub when the booking was made that there is a nearby road closure, hence we were late as we are not local and had trouble navigating around it.

We came to this lovely pub last year for a pre-Christmas meet up with friends, and it was so fantastic that we came back this year. I'm not sure which we would rate higher - the wonderful service from the charming young chap or the delicious food. Nothing was too much trouble and everything we ordered was so good - starters, mains and puddings couldn't faulted - and the presentation of the food was exceptional. Looking forward to a repeat visit already. Many thanks to all the staff at the Saracen's Head.

Absolutely brilliant. Staff attentive and very knowledgeable about the what was happening. Sunday dinner was the best we have had, both in quality and quantity. Ales were of great taste and price. Recommended for adults and children.

Fantastic food! Wonderful surroundings. All courses were great but the Lamb main course was truly amazing! Friendly service too.

Some of the dishes are way way over priced. Especially the steak dishes that come with no veg or sauces and are already so pricey!

Booked a table of 12 to celebrate my wife's birthday some two weeks ago. Called to confirm the booking today which is 6 days before dinner to find out this pub has cancelled the booking because they now have an event on and can't accommodate us. If I could I'd give 0 starts. Had a few good meals here and have recommended to friends and family. Won't ever visit again and will actively explain to anyone who'll listen why I'll never visit and suggest they don't either. I can't find words to express how utterly disappointed and let down I feel.

Wish I could say it was good but it was average. Not enough staff to look after us well and food a bit over-priced and underwhelming.

Delicious food/drink and the staff are amazing! The poor girl behind the bar got abused by a very rude man because they were completely booked up for dinner but she dealt with it very well and respectfully. Thank you for your fab service. We will return!

Visited on 22/7/2023 as local to us and had a magnificent 32oz Tomahawk steak for two. Absolutely delicious and great spuds and charred asparagus. It was on the specials menu so steak lovers if you get a chance check it out as you wont be disappointed. Service impeccable as usual and great atmosphere.

Despite being an easy 15 mile drive from home, I only came across the Saracen's Head recently. This lovely pub - in a beautiful village - is a delight. On an unusually chilly July evening the pub was warm and inviting with many lamps and candles providing an enticing welcome. The menu is reasonably varied with a couple of specials - service at all times friendly, efficient and cheerful. Special thanks to Maisie and Charlie. Our unusual first course of porchetta was simply perfect. Rib eye steaks to follow also of the highest quality. A very impressive experience altogether. Try it.

Enjoyed our lunch here. Delicious food and well presented. Food clearly cooked to order. Although extra sides are available, each plate comes with a good selection making a complete meal (unlike many higher end pubs these days charge you an extra £5 for each side dish). I had the salmon that was perfectly roasted served with a lovely summer quinoa salad. My dad had the gammon & egg. he was initially uncertain about ordering it owing to experience elsewhere of it being tough, but he pronounced it perfectly cooked. Also served with chips crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Rounded off with a delicious lemon cheesecake. The staff are friendly and helpful and at no point do you feel rushed. It was about a half hour trip for us to get to the Saracens Head but well worth it.

We've eaten here at least a dozen times now and always excellent food and well presented. Lunch & dinner menu very good as is the specials board and we have tried most dishes. My favourite is the Rib Eye and the Picanha steaks well seasoned and very tender. All in all, a very friendly English country pub with excellent food & wine served by very competent and friendly staff. Always a pleasure to visit.

A little more expensive than other pubs in the area, but we’ll worth it. The staff were excellent; Attentive, polite and happy to help. The food was excellent. Six in our party and everyone was very happy with the food provided.

Had a super Sunday roast beef with all the trimmings and a great selection of vegetables. The frangipani and the chocolate brownie we had afterwards were also superb and tasty. We will be back.

We were celebrating our friend’s birthday and she had booked here for lunch. Can’t fault the food which was excellent, the venue for the great service and staff. It’s well over a year since we were here last, and the quality of the food is even better when we visited today. Lunch on a Tuesday and an excellent lunch it was. I had a baked gifts cheese on a pear and walnut salad followed by a pie of lamb cooked in red wine with rosemary. It was absolutely excellent. Couldn't fault it in any way.

8 of us went for dinner and every starter, main or dessert was enjoyed. The grilled Cornish sardine on toast with olive tapenade and sun blushed tomatoes was delicious. The hake with gnocchi and asparagus was excellent. Portions were generous.Not only was the food superb, the staff were very friendly, service quick, and the building/decor very pleasant.Definitely recommended and will be back soon.

Popped in here for some food after a long hike round the local countryside, and very glad we did. Wide choice of food on the menu, friendly and attentive staff, lovely setting with plenty of space and different areas to sit, but most important delicious food.Another venue to put on the 'must return soon' list

The staff were very accommodating ensuring that we could enjoy our food and the company of our friends without being disturbed.The food was excellent and they provided additional vegetables to go with the roast dinners without delay (or additional charge). The Sunday roasts were sumptuous with a good balance of meat and vegetables with a great size Yorkshire pudding for those that enjoy them!The desserts were also well proportioned and the added honeycomb was just devine!If only we lived closer would definitely return but was a great midway point to meet friends and will look to use once more if not that frequently.

I alway love my trips to the Shires, I get to stay with the best of friends and also sample the delights of village life, the local pub. The Saracens Head is one of the most homely and friendly pubs I’ve been too.This weekends trip started Friday night talking to locals and drinking amazing Timothy Taylor. I ordered the steak and cheddar pie for dinner, it was absolutely delicious, the pastry was the star. It being the weekend of the first Lions test meant a big breakfast was required to line the stomach Saturday morning. Again the food didn’t disappoint, Full English, top quality produce all round, strong coffee and delightful staff (thank you Emma). Looking forward to an afternoon of beer and rugby here, but thought I would write this now, while I still can. Well worth the 3 hour trip to get here.
