A drink after work quickly rolled into a family meal once we seen what was being served. My children had classic chicken nuggets I had the steak pie and husband the chicken peri peri wrap. oh my god. Absolutely amazing! “Proper chips” were beyond! And steak pie best I’ve ever had ( sorry mam) and his wrap looked amazing. Also best pint we’ve had in AGES! Thankyou very much, coming here every Friday from now on!

Myself my friend and my two young children visited the sandpiper on a sunny Saturday afternoon. My daughter asked if she could use the bouncy castle, I was told there was a private party booked in the room next door and we were unable to Use the beer garden. When entering the hired room noticed that there was no private party but only the owner and his few friends sitting in there not wanting to be disturbed. The beer garden and bouncy castle was stood empty. The owner then locked all the doors upon trying to enter and wouldn’t let me 5 year old use the bouncy castle. This pub is not child friendly or welcoming in any way. Shame.

Been going to the sandpiper for years and years as a family. I decided to come in with my boyfriend for once just the two of us for a drink to kill some time. Upon arrival I went to the bar for a drink and the lady behind the bar asked for ID (standard i understand how fake ids have attacked hospitality lately) however when she began scratching away and bending my license i began to get annoyed. Anyways got a single gin and lemonade for £6 after finishing that I went back to the bar for round 2. A different barman asked for ID although he has previously seen me get served and the lady who served me was stood with him. Yet again pestered my ID. I got my drink and paid £4.45. So not only did the First Lady overcharge me for my drink but I’ve now left this family pub which I’ve been to for yearssss with a fear that next time I enter my VERY REAL ID will get seized. I love the sandpiper the food is amazing and always will be however after the staff treated me today I don’t think I can see myself returning.

Staff are very rude and lazy! Expecting guests to collect glasses. Bar was a complete mess! Walking round the bar drunk and taking drinks which are half full because they can’t see what’s going on. When we asked why they took the drink the behaviour of the bar maid was disgusting. Telling us to look through the glasses they’ve took because they are all ‘dead’. We were then explaining to other people on the table she was running over and screaming that she was right. Here for a function and we will not be coming back. If anyone asks about the place I will make sure people know exactly what the staff are like. Should have been knocked down when they had the chance!!

I've just been to the sandpiper for lunch with my wife and what an amazing place it is. I used to deliver in the area for DPD and always said I would pop in one day..and today was that day. We where very welcomed on entering the establishment and asked for two drinks ..sat down and looked at the menu for some food. The menu was very varied with a lot of choice that I'd imagine would suit most tastes. I plumped for there signature burger and fries and my wife went for the chilli flatbread. The staff where very easy to talk to and nowt was a bother. The food came and it looked amazing my wife was gobsmacked at how much of a flatbread she had. My burger and fries tasted great lovely burger patties with bacon and fries that where so nice. My wife are as much as she could but there was so much on her flatbread it was an impossible task. The quality and quantity was first class!!! This was an amazing experience and we will definitely visit again thanks for a great meal and visit. Please go and try them out you won't regret it.

Long wait for cold, mainly over cooked, frazzled food. Waited over an hour for the food to arrive despite no one else in the pub eating at the time, there were five adults and one toddler. The fish and chips were £14 a portion and the portion size was poor, the chips tasted nice but were barely luke warm when we received them, the fish was small. The kids sausage mash and beans came and the sausages can only be described as frazzled, safe to say the toddler didn’t eat any of his meal. The chicken Goujons strips were over cooked and dark brown in colour rather than the traditional ‘buttermilk’ light batter. The portion size of the sandwiches was better but the marinara sauce lacked flavour and the meatballs were more rare than what my preference is, as the meat was pink and I’m pregnant I decided to leave mine for safety, I’m sure if we asked for it to be sent back they would have cooked it more but the sauce was nothing exciting either so wasn’t fussed for getting the meat cooked more. We would have chosen somewhere else if we had known about the wait and quality of the food beforehand - should have read previous reviews. The glasses were not overly clean with lip stains from previous users as we stuck to the straws and one of the plates food was served on the bottom felt like they do when they come out the dishwasher dried but still lucky with grubby water. It’s not table service, you order at the bar and have to get your own cutlery and sauces as you are not offered these when the food is delivered. 1 star service at 3/4 star prices.

We went for a family Sunday lunch, 7 adults and 1 child. We ordered potato skins starter, and 2 meat Sunday lunches. We had to wait a long time for the starters, but they were very nice. However, we then had to wait another long time, and when the meals turned up, they were terrible. The so-called Yorkshire puddings were burnt to a crisp, the cauliflower was yellow, and the rest of the meals were bone dry. The only consolation, and I thank the manager for this, was that after complaining, apologies were made, and the full cost was refunded.

What a terrible experience. Visiting from Leeds and went for Sunday lunch which was quite frankly inedible. A long wait after ordering to be presented with a dry unappetising meal. The Yorkshire puddings and roast potatoes were so hardens burnt you couldn't get a fork in them. The veg looked like it was reheated from yesterday and the gravy was like water. We did get a full refund for the food but still had to pay for the drinks and not much of an apology given. One of our party said she had never been served such a disgusting meal. Ruined what should have been a nice family lunch

Great night last night. There was a good, young singer on, the place is nicely decorated, the new owners were absolutely lovely and very personable as were every staff member that served us. The drinks were cheap and the Chinese (Chow, Chow) parked outside was very nice. A very nice night indeed and I hope all of the locals support this little gem of a pub. Can't comment on the food in the pub itself but it won't be long before we go back!

Just taken advantage of the governments £10 per person discount by having a bar meal at this local bar. Checked out the bar meals menu on line and after booking a table for 2 was expecting a nice meal with my wife. Staff were friendly and the bars social distancing measures were excellent. We were given a menu and after I ordered the 3 course special (£10 instead of £20) I asked for the chicken wrap for my wife. I was informed that my wife may as well have the starter and pudding as the price was £10 even for one course. There was no alternative but the £10 special. Never mind I thought and after ordering a drink waited for our meal. The soup my wife had was pretty average and my fish and chips was not that enjoyable. I asked if the fish was fresh as in my opinion it was no better than the frozen fish you get from a freezer in Morrisons. I was told it was supplied by their supplier. The ice cream and my wife's brownie with cream was fine but the whole meal was a disappointment and considering the real price would be £40 it was not worth it. It is a shame the Sandpiper have decided to go down the line of a 3 course special to take advantage of the £10 per person discount , some people just want one course.

We thought with things getting back to some normality we’d treat ourselves to Sunday lunch at the Piper. We booked a slot, completed the check and trace, got our temperatures checked at the door before being shown to a clean table. Everything was looking good so far. We ordered one beef, one chicken dinner and a chicken goujons for the little one which she enjoyed but the beef and chicken dinners were usual. 4 roast potatoes, cabbage, a huge Yorkshire pudding and what can only be described as watery blended “past the inch of its life” turnip with the look and consistency of baby food. No other vegetables were brought out or offered. The beef was dry and so tough it was a great workout for the forearms to cut and jaw to chew. The chicken was also dry and unappealing. We would have asked what happened to the turnip and was this a new twist on veg? But no one asked how the meal was even with 4 people working on the bar. The staff were disinterested in diners. To summarise, a very poor effort. We will not be returning to the piper for food again. On the plus side the Heineken was lovely and cold.

This modern pub in build(circa 1978) serves as a drinking community hub. Around 10 years ago it had a ‘facelift’ new chef, food was very good. As I didn’t eat on the two occasions I drank there, but looking a the menu, it’s a bulk standard low budget menu, that is aimed for families. Children were in the bar area on my first visit, as they were eating that is now allowed. The Sandpiper serves three ‘local’ beers. They operate a loyal card system. Good deal. This pub has two large wall mounted TVs in the restaurant’ area. On the occasions I visited they were on mute. The first visit bar staff were friendly and I liked the atmosphere straight away. Unfortunately on my 2nd and 3rd visit the bar staff weren’t able to be welcoming. My 2nd visit the young bartender went to pull my pint it ran out and all he did was to turn the info card around on the handle. No apology and he turned to the female staff member and they said something to each other, which I didn’t hear. I chose one of the other. On the final visit it was last Sunday night, quiz night. It wasn’t all that busy considering it was a themed night. Beer choice was OK. I’ll probably rarely visit as it doesn’t have much going for this pub.

I have came to the sandpiper for years and always loved the food, staff and beer garden, however our visit tonight was super disappointing, I’m unsure if they have been taken over or not but the menu has changed and although the range of options is good the quality was awful. I’m afraid I wasn’t even prepared to pay for my boyfriends burger, he had two bites and he said he was sure it was frozen and had a horrible consistency to the meat. My Mac and cheese was tasteless and has no seasoning at all, tasted like a child’s meal. The only saving grace was that the manager or the lady behind the bar that I complained to was very professional, genuine and helpful. She had a lovely manner and obviously great customer service skills, a credit to the pub. We will not return for food however we do enjoy the beer garden and that it’s dog friendly

Visited this bar for food and drinks with my family after being told how great it is with reasonable prices. Upon ordering my drinks, I was met with an unwelcoming face, and the way she was treating the bar staff was less than ideal. Previous reviews likened the menu to Wetherspoons and I think this is doing a disservice to Wetherspoons. The Sandpiper’s menu is quite frankly boring - yet expensive for what it is! If you don’t want burgers or pizza there is very little choice; any main or classic meals all come with chips and there is no option for vegetables. Most places have daily specials or offers yet, apart from Friday fish and chips, the Sandpiper sticks to this really boring and uninspiring menu. The place was almost empty when we were there and, if they want to stay afloat, I think the management need to look closely at what they are offering their customers. The only saving grace in a very disappointing afternoon were the very helpful and pleasant staff!

This place has gone downhill very quickly in the last few months. The menu has changed to a more Wetherspoons type of fare, the prices have increased and the quality (and quantity!) of food has declined. We went for a quick meal during the week, there were 2 other tables, and our food somehow took about 40 minutes to arrive. There was no apology for the delay, and what was given to us was disappointing, especially for the increased price. The food itself was much lower quality than it previously was, the burgers are massively processed (reminded us of school lunches), there were complaints about each plate on the table (small portions, missing accompaniments, too dry....). A really disappointing experience, we'll be looking elsewhere for our local from now.

So there was a group of us in here at the weekend when a small child was going around hitting other children. My sister in law Michelle, who was previously a supervisor leaving not so long ago mentioned it to the parent and was faced with an abuse and swearing. The assistant manager whom I now know to be called sinead, came over and said not a word just standing there watching. When asked why she didn’t step in to sort the matter she replied “well that would of just been one more person shouting wouldn’t it”. I then find out last night that my sister in law Michelle has gone into the sandpiper for drinks with friends to be told by sinead, the so called assistant manager, that she is barred!! I’m sorry but this is absolutely disgusting!!! Myself, friends and family, and also Michelle’s, having been going into the sandpiper, held functions there and have spend thousands over the years and the place has always been so welcoming but for the last 6 months I’d say it has gone further and further downhill!!! This person you have claiming to be an assistant manager has no people skills whatsoever and her attitude is disgusting therefor she is driving people away. To barr someone for doing potentially what she should of done is absolutely outrageous!! I’m afraid myself, friends and family will be staying well away from this establishment in the future and I just hope you do something to rectify this problem you have here as this has alway been a lovely pub.

Such a shame, we were regular visitors to the Sandpiper then moved away. We came back to visit family for a week, we had heard negative comments that the pub had gone down hill in recent months, we decided to still give it a go as it used to be our favourite. When we arrived we waited a long time to be served for drinks, as most staff were hanging around a laptop. A lot of draught was unavailable. We got drinks. And ordered food from what has become a Wetherspoons ish menu which also was disappointing. As we waited to order we witnessed the ‘assistant manager’ as she claimed to be, be very rude to other guests. As a bar owner this person does not belong in customer service!! Food arrived was ok, burger was great but the rest a bit disappointing. Such a shame we loved this place but it’s dropped and the ‘assistant manager’ shouldn’t be anywhere near customers!!!! Some of us had the roast although would prefer not to have to pay extra for mashed potato portions to accompany it, other extra sides could also be ordered, however size of dinner was quite ample without needing too many extras. Red Velvet cheesecake was absolutely delicious, would visit again simply for this alone Service was a little slow and took a while to clear plates after we’d eaten main course, place was quite busy maybe extra staff required on weekend afternoons. Fairly good choice of beers, menu looked good also, just a shame the kitchen lacked a huge amount of the produce. No chunky chips but they had skinny fries, Surely any competent, qualified chef could cut a potato and make chunky chips? Also no fish available even though it was a Friday and it wasn’t like we turned up at the end of the food service or anything. Mozzarella sticks were also not available so ended up with halloumi instead which would of been nice if we actually wanted the Cypriot cheese.

The Sandpiper has always been good value for money with generous portions of food but I got the impression that there had been an overall improvement. Three of our party had the Cumberland sausage which came with mash and a leek and Bacon mixture, they all cleared their plates. Someone else had the pizza margarita which they also very much enjoyed and two of us had the halloumi cheese panini which came with the best chunky chips I’ve had for a long time. Visited for Sunday lunch on 17th September for a first time visit and was very impressed! The staff were incredibly friendly and the food was delicious. The chef even carved up a bowl of roast beef for my dog to enjoy while we had our dinner. Will certainly be back!

Visited The Sandpiper for the first time on Friday 3 August 2017. Booked earlier in week via Bethany, the manager, for a funeral reception for 30 people. From the outset there was a lovely ambiance. The choice of menus was perfect. The frontage of the building belies the inside, the room was a very nice square open area, where people could converse, there is an excellent outdoor seating area at the back of the building, on the day the weather was very good & the outdoor area has a lovely quiet relaxing atmosphere. The food was excellent & there was a good range of beers at reasonable prices. Overall everyone commented how they enjoyed the day & how surprised they were by the inside of the building, Many thanks to Bethany, the bar staff & the chef & kitchen staff for creating a lovely atmosphere.

Decided to visit the Sand Piper while at the coast with friends. Initially we planned to just have a few drinks in what can only be described as one of the nicest beer gardens in the north east. We seen some food being taken to the table next to us and wow it looked great. We moved inside to the main bar which had a lovely feel about it, very relaxing. I had steak which was cooked perfectly and the chips were to die for! Also the cask ale we were drinking from cullercoats brewery was really really really good. We mentioned this to our waitress who told us about the upcoming beer festival on August bank holiday. So that date is in the diary! Fantastic pub with great staff, cant believe i have never been here before. See you all at the end of August!

Its a shame I didn't read the reviews about the scampi before I ordered it, unfortunately the management have done nothing about the quality as their previous response to comments indicated they would. Never in my life have I had tough stringy scampi that was difficult to cut with a knife. It was like a cross between rubber and chicken . But what really put me off was the filthy tomato sauce bottle the member of staff placed on our table. The lid was so dirty there was no way I was going to touch it let alone put the contents on my meal ! It had obviously been re-filled so many times the label was discoloured and dirty.

We visited this venue recently whilst visiting friends in the north east, lovely little pub and sunny beer gardenThe food was nice and the service as we all expected, especially the little old man that owns it (what a hoot) he let us bring our dogs in too which we find rare these days on our travels9/10

We booked the Function Room for a work colleague's Retirement Party and had a fantastic evening! Would totally recommend this venue. There was lovely seating areas and a dance floor that got well used. Plenty room to get a DJ in. The weather was lovely luckily so we had a BBQ and this was really decent. There is a lovely outside seating area and we had this all to ourselves.Bar staff were friendly and booking this was easy and thanks to Bethany for her help. Nothing was a problem! Thanks again!

My wife and I called in on spec on Friday 5th for a quick bite to eat and we were both pleasantly surprised with the food. I had a Mexican burger whilst the wife had the 8oz rump steak. My burger was very tasty with just the right amount of kick to it (Yum). The wife said her steak was cooked perfectly (medium/rare) and she loved the chunky chips.A nice find as we both have never visited here before and we will certainly be coming back.

Waited ages for 3 undemanding meals. One of our party ordered "honey roast ham" which was poor quality luncheon meat, one got soggy nachos and I got "Welsh rarebit" which consisted of poor quality cheese on damp toast and a small, limp salad.Chips were nice. Not cheap either.Very poor, won't be going back.

I reviewed the sandpiper a couple of months ago and the food was great. Returned today 30 April and was so disappointed. Was told after we ordered there was no cauliflower cheese my favourite! It only got worse the roast potatoes were rock hard as were the carrots undercooked. The stuffing was rock hard and tasteless. We were given more roast potatoes that were cooked but after we had finished dinner. I did notice a different chef from my last vist. We won't be hurrying back

Decided to give this local pub/restaurant a try as we fancied a treat. Visited at 5pm on a Wednesday when it was quite and tried their traditional North Sea Fish and chips. Was not disappointed. Fish was white and meaty and the batter very tasty. Served with big chunky chips, mushy peas and a tasty tartar sauce. A bit pricey but well worth the extra. Good service as it was quite.

The food is good and the staff are friendly but we waited over 40 minutes for our vegetables to arrive so we could use the carvery. Is the kitchen so small that it is overwhelmed by more than one order?

We visited the sandpiper for Sunday lunch and had a fantastic meal. This is our second vist as we were there three months ago and the food was at best very average. But they have uped there game and I was very impressed . Very good choice and good quality meat. I am a big lad and asked for two Yorkshire pudding and extra roast potatoes no problem said the chef! Tasty food and good size potions.

I recently visited on a Thursday night and ordered the prawn and avocado sandwich with a side of chilli and butter broccoli. It really was good quality for the price paid and the staff and atmosphere was friendly. I then again visited on the Sunday and enjoyed the quiz night. Everyone seemed to enjoy the night and it was a good laugh. Even won a prize for second last :). I will definately go back and I would recommend to anyone wanting to visit a warm local pub.

We held a surprise 40th here. The staff were all very pleasant and accommodating to our every need. Nothing was too much trouble for them. The room was the perfect size. People could sit and chat to catch up and the dance floor was just the right size. We also booked some buffet food which was delicious. The whole experience was above and beyond our expectations. I'd highly recommend the sandpiper for any function/party you are planning to hold.

The wife and I went for a late lunch one weekday. She had the salmon after asking the young lad whether it was cooked, which he said it was. When it came it was raw and so she complained and the lad said sorry, that was it just sorry. So she complained to the lad again and he had a word with the chef and the chef agreed to cook her a cheeseburger. My wife asked if the burger was very large as she has a small appetite and she was told it was not, unfortunately out came a huge burger. We weren't asked if any of the meals we had were OK (mine was a pie and was OK). The Ladies Loo needs a thorough clean and my wife wouldn't advise you Ladies to try it.

After visiting the Piper for drinks we decided to have a bite to eat, and I'm glad we did. The Pan Haggity was delicious and my friend was raving about his burger. "The best I've had in ages" to quote him. My compliments to the chef on the quality of the food.To sum up a good mix of beers and great food served by pleasant staff. Keep up the good work.

Food is good here and the staff are generally very friendly, but I have to say I'm really unhappy about the attitude on the chef on the carvery today. It was quite unbelievable how rude and obnoxious he was. A regular customer lost thanks to him

Overall experience at The Sandpiper was excellent.Very helpful staff on the telephone when booking the table.Staff were very friendly on arrival & our table was reserved for us. Our food was delicious & hot. The vegetarian option was very nice. All of our meals from the carvery were cooked to perfection. The staff were excellent and so friendly. The magician Alex Jobson added a great touch and we really enjoyed the entertainment while waiting for our meal. Can't recommend this place enough.Thank you.

We have been going to Beaches & Cream for years and always love it. Today was really disappointing. We arrived at 2.30, nobody greeted us, we had to ask if we could sit down, there were several tables dirty despite 5 staff and lots of empty tables. When we approached the counter to order, we were told the kitchen was closed. You’d think they’d tell customers this before they sat down. One girl was taking orders and having to prepare the order and take it out, whilst 3 other visible staff were chatting, this caused unnecessary wait times. One waiter was hovering around tables, too close, making conversation uncomfortable. It was a really disappointing experience and not what we have come to expect from past experience, we travel over half an hour to go there and wish we hadn’t made the effort. I’m not sure why the kitchen closed so early, if we had known, we could’ve gone elsewhere, but more importantly, we should’ve been told as soon as we came in.

Friendly staff, cosy atmosphere. I’m gluten free and they have nice gluten free options. I had the shepherds pie; honestly the best shepherds pie I’ve ever had. Definitely recommend 😊

Came here whilst in the area . I had the mince and dumplings ( more gravy than mince , watery mash ) , my wife had the chicken and ham pie ( she wasn't impressed with that either) . When asked about the dessert list, I was told there's a menu on the bar , and basically, go get it yourself . I had the cheesecake, which was OK ( to much middle and not enough top to make the tast of the cheesecake stand out , the wife had the sponge with custard which the sponge was cold , obviously just heated up in the microwave . Will not go here ever again.
