Ordered Chicken Panini chips etc and the beef Panini with chips etc, chicken was nice according to wife but chips were cold, beef was tough and dry, could have done with some gravy, both reasonably priced. Drinks were ok and also reasonably priced. Gents toilets were novel but absolutely stunk.

Visited saturday 22.03.25 Ok so the place isn't a huge pub. 16 tables maybe? Not everyone was ordering food either so not exactly stowed off with orders. We ordered our food, waited around 45ish minutes, still no food. No other tables were getting their orders either (probably about 5 other tables) husband went to see what the hlld up was and apparently they were plating up our food and to give them 5 minutes. After 10 minutes we'd had enough. Husband went to the bar and asked for a refund. Again they told us our food was getting plated up and that if we waited a bit longer we could eat. But tbh after an hour wait we'd had enough and needed to get home. The guy who refunded us was apologetic and even said we could eat our food and still have our refund which was nice (good service from this fella) but we had had enough. We were also told upon ordering that there was no fish so my daughter and I couldn't have fish and chip. A little annoying as its a seaside town known for fresh fish but we ordered something else. Just as my husband had paid and was walking away someone came from the kitchen to say they now had fish again. They guy who served us didn't think to say "sorry no fish BUT we're due an order any minute if you still want to order/wait" or "hey sir, you just ordered but would you like me to cancel those orders and get you the fish you asked for instead" There was a lot of staff standing around doing nothing when they could have been checking on orders in the kitchen or checking on tables who had ordered. Atleast 3 other tables got refunds due to no service on their orders who had also been waiting around an hour. 2 positives are it's dog friendly and the pub itself is quite nice inside. Shame it was let down by poor service.

We visited The Priory on Saturday and unfortunately it wasn't a good experience. After placing our order we were informed they were out of fish, fair enough, so changed order. Found out later they had a delivery just as we were ordering but no one informed the front of house staff, and then no one offered to change our order. Unfortunately I can't review the food we did order as it never arrived. 45 minutes after order (1 pizza, 1 sandwich w/chips and 1 scampi w/chips), no food had arrived. Went to ask the staff what was happening, had to wait several minutes for someone to come over. Was told food was being plated and it would be 5 minutes. 10 minutes later still no food, so went up to ask for a refund. The only reason I've given 1 star for Service is because the Supervisor was very apologetic and friendly, offered a full refund. Several other tables had also refunded and others will still waiting as we left. Can't comment on the quality of the food so only scored on Service & Atmosphere.

We visited the priory with our boy in his stroller 😸. It was initially a warm day but got cold rather quickly 🙄. We had a few beverages here, the barman makes the best mai tai's we have ever tried 😁 and they're reasonably priced! We went inside for a few whilst we warmed up, very friendly atmosphere and although on this occasion we didn't have dinner here. The meals we did see that people were ordering looked good, so we are looking forward to our return for more mai tai's 😂 and of course to try the food. Thank you for your marvellous hospitality 🥰 ... Kindest regards

The Priory is a large and smart bar, very much in the modern style. It was pretty quiet when we were in and the service was good. My pint of lager was very good, but my wife’s half pint suffered from the modern malaise of being flat simply because of pubs serving half pints in ordinary tumblers, as opposed to proper beer glasses (ie the ones with widgets on the bottom, designed to activate the bubbles!) Shame really.

We wandered up and down Front Street, Tynemouth, on a miserably cold day. We looked in the door and the place looked warm and welcoming. There were a few other customers, but at 5:30 on a cold Thursday evening it was welcoming to see other diners. The menu was small but as it was titled 'Winter Warmers' it was what we wanted to see. The staff were very friendly and our order was soon taken. Our food arrived in a reasonable time. We were not disappointed. I had dumplings, mince, chips and peas. The better half had scampi and chips. Portion sizes were pleasing. The cost was similar to other eateries we had looked at prior to choosing 'The Priory'. All in all it was a teatime success.

Ordered a chicken burger, a bbq chicken pizza and 2 teas. £28. Made 2 teapots of tea at the bar. Both teapots were absolutely filthy, fished them out from the bottom of the bar, 2 spoons were also filthy, the tea was Luke warm. I took them back for a replacement, still no better. The waiter keeps apologising all the time (sorry). The chicken burger was a battered clump of chicken in a bun with salad. Salad was dry. Had to ask for mayonnaise, my wife never ate it. My pizza looked good, but the chicken was hard lumps and the base was like slate.. I only ate a bit as I was hungry. The waiter did not do anything or offer anything else, we just put our coats on and left. The whole pub needs a clean out and the crockery and utensils need replacement or a damp good wash. The staff had no go in them at all. Very poor service, waited just under an hour for food to come out. People were complaining about cold cups of tea. The staff was completely lost. I would never go there again or recommend it to anyone. If I hadn't paid prior to getting my meal, I would never of paid. For £28 the service and meals were shocking

Called in after a long coastal walk on a lunchtime. Only 2 other couples in n one had ordered food. Partner ordered soup of the day, I ordered scamp & chips. Not the quickest service but that was ok, decent pint. Partner didnt eat the soup- no discernable flavour though she thought it might have been yesterdays Sunday lunch vegetables liquidised and was tepid.Chef I think needs his/her CV investigating! Anyone who cannot put scampi chips n a half dozen peas on a plate together hot is robbing a living. We had pre ordered and paid for dessert already otherwise we would have left then. After a forever wait, even though there was still only another 2 customers our Nuclear Apple Sludge arrived. We had gone from one extreme to the other- barely warm to OMFG hot! It was advertised as apple crumble but neither one of us had any crumble. Neither of us are fussy eaters but for a couple of simple meals it was crap. Hate to think what it would be like on a busy day. Just go for beer.

Ordered the two course menu. Whilst the starter was nothing to get excited about the main steak pie and chips were very good. Homemade chips and ample steak in the pie exceeded expectations- well worth the money. The ales are a bit hit and miss, slightly on the pricey side also. Could do with a wider selection, more local and more % to choose from. The decor was good, the staff was good, the service was a bit slow but overall much better than expected.

This pub is next to the coast, so you would think they would have the heating on, ordered a beef sandwich and fish fingers for my granddaughter, this pub was not busy, about 6 tables of people, waited 45 !! Mins, asked the one bar staff where our food was, oh the kitchen has lost your order, so 10mins later the “chef” brought it to our table, his uniform clearly was dirty, which I think a uniform should be clean daily ! Food, was terrible! The chips must have been kept warm under a lamp, the beef, well I couldn’t chew most of it, never again. With such large competition on your doorstep I expected more, might as well had a bag of chips outside! Never again

Without doubt the worst meal the four of us have had in a very long time. We were warned by a lady leaving that the food had been terrible but we had already ordered. It wasn’t busy but we waited quite a while, the mince was awful literally cooked mince with what looked like instant gravy, no onions or anything else, the dumpling was extremely hard, we wondered if it was a bread roll. The steak pie was inedible, the prawns in the sandwich were dripping wet and so sloppy, the home cooked chips weren’t cooked, the peas were just about warm. Our dog enjoyed the experience, but he has low standards bless him. Even the tea in the pot was luke warm. What a waste of money.

Absolutely awful experience. Ordered 3 bacon and one bacon and egg bap, at the time we were the only people in the pub. Waitress came over and told us they had no bacon, so after looking at the menu again for 5 minutes, waitress returned to tell us the bacon had just been delivered. 45 minutes later no food, so went to the bar to find out if our food was ready, only to be told rudely and curtly that she had told us the bacon had just arrived in and between our initial order and the bacon arriving in, other customers had come in and ordered so we had to wait as we were at the back of the queue! Sarnies were average with the egg overcooked and rubbery. Avoid at all costs!

When the meals came there was no mash or roasts on any of the plates.i went back to the bar to ask if they were coming out separately but was told they had no potatoes 😲 They offered after drinks on the house which we declined and asked for something refunded from our bill. The beef was inedible,we had one carrot each and what was supposed to be cabbage ,and a Yorkshire? Two of us ordered trio of meat ,but only got two meats.this is the first time I have ever left a negative review but as this was a treat for my 75 year old mother for her birthday,I felt I had to complain. Do not eat here. I'm sure this place pulls people in for a pint and the football, but it isn't an acceptable place for food. We visited The Priory for a quick lunch (sandwich, salad, and chips) and had to wait well over an hour for our simple food to arrive. We complained and were told only one chef was working that day. Within the nearly two hours we had to spend here, however, only four equally simple meals were served. The kitchen clearly wasn't busy and the wait isn't acceptable. I'm also not sure how much food is actually being made on site. A waitress walked in the main door with multiple bags of salad from the co-op over the road during our long wait. When the food did arrive it was largely unpleasant. The bagged salad was fine as was the coleslaw, but the sandwiches were flavourless and served on very dry buns. The beef in one sandwich was so tough it simply couldn't be eaten. The chips were average, but only 10 were served on each plate. The atmosphere was uninviting. The decor was very dark and uninviting, and there is way too much empty space alongside too few seating areas. It's like everyone has their own isolated island to dine from. The bathrooms were also very unpleasant and clearly not kept clean throughout the day. One member of our party used the female bathroom and had to navigate around a large pool of water on the floor with the help of another unhappy customer. A very unpleasant experience. I'm very annoyed at them for having taken my money, and also at myself for not demanding a refund, as it simply wasn't worth the value. Please do yourself a favour and check out the other places Tynemouth has to offer.

Stopped in for lunch while out for a family day trip. We had never heard of the priory before, stopping in quite randomly. I am so glad we did. There was a good selection of beer and the atmosphere was welcoming and relaxed. It was not overly busy but wasn’t quiet either. We enjoyed chilling with a few drinks before food. I can recommend the jack the devil local beer. We all had fish and chips. Our three year old had the child fish bites and they accommodated his love of mushy peas no problem. There was a little wait for the food, but I have no doubt everything was made fresh so this was in no way an issue. The food was beautiful. Having read other reviews I don’t know how people can say this was overpriced. Two adult fish and chips, a child’s fish and chips, two beers and a fruit shoot, £30. Given the price of everything these days, this was very reasonably priced. We absolutely loved this place and will definitely come back on our next visit to Tynemouth.

We had a lovely lunch in the sun. We ordered panini which came with fabulous homemade chips, side salad and coleslaw. Lovely, relaxed attitude and friendly service.

Ordered drinks and food x 3. Waited almost an hour for food. Waitress not at fault. She said there was a delay and we should have been informed when ordering. When pizza came it was almost burnt on edges but the rest was sloppy and not nice to eat. I and my wife had fish and chips. The chips were lovely but the batter on the fish wasn't cooked. Again another sloppy meal x2. Beer and soft drinks ok. Toilets very smelly. Urninals made of cut away beer kegs. Don't know how they are cleaned. Not happy at all.

A rainy July day meant there were seats a-plenty. The young barmaid/waitress was extremely polite, helpful, and thorough. A credit. The food was good, especially the fish and chips. The pizza was a bit basic. It seemed like there was the tomato base, some regular cheese, and a few pieces of pepperoni. That said, I did eat it all. Less than £40 to fill the bellies of 4 people was excellent value.

My rating is purely age related l love the pub and atmosphere but found the music far to loud you could not hold a conversation without shouting so have not given top marks because of the noise level

My daughter and I had a lovely few days staying at the Holiday Inn in Newcastle. Excellent value and very comfortable hotel. We had good meals and service in every venue we ate in except at the Priory. Thought Tynemouth was a great town and the Metro so handy. However our visit to the Priory was not good. My daughter had a couple of beers and a prawn salad. I had a pot of tea , glass of water and a tuna and sweetcorn sandwich on brown bread. We sat outside. Service was slow. When I poured my tea it tasted stewed or from a thermos. Opened the lid and it was caked with old tea bag buildup. The spout was cracked also. I took it inside and the waitress gave me another teapot. Neither of these pots had been in a dishwasher for ??????long. I stuck to my water. The bread was not fresh and was dried up at the edges. The prawn salad was watery. Toilets were smelly and not as clean as expected. Money had been spent on them to upgrade some time ago. Dogs were most welcome !!!!!Too welcome and too many. Ok outside but lying in the middle of the floor inside was like an obstacle course on way to the toilet. We did like sitting in the sun watching the world go by. Loved Tynemouth but sadly not the Priory Pub which was recommended to us by staff at the pub with the stuffed collie in the glass case. Only needed a light lunch as we had a very good breakfast.

A nice dog friendly pub, service good and, even though I haven't had food there, the menu and what I seen other people eating, looked good. Fast friendly bar service.

Me and my family came here for a meal, firstly you get a nice vibe when you walk in. The staff are very friendly and helpful. We ordered 7 meals, it does state on the menu a standard 30 minute wait but possible longer during busy periods. We waited 45 minutes but it was worth it. I had the burger which was made fresh with home cooked chips , my daughter had the chicken nuggets again made fresh, my parents had steak and ale pie the meat was so tender it fell apart when you picked it up, my sister and niece both had the hunters chicken which was delicious and my partner had the pizza again very nice. The portion sizes are very generous and the staff checked everything was ok. Great value for money will definitely be back

1st time we have had breakfast here & it was very good. Cooked well, plates nice & hot. Got a seat easily as we were in early. Tables were clean, an all round good experience.

Get.the.sticky.toffee.pudding. I’m no photographer but me and the Mrs get this almost every time we go. Always a good selection of guest ales and the pub quiz in a Tuesday night is a laugh!
