Without doubt the worst meal the four of us have had in a very long time. We were warned by a lady leaving that the food had been terrible but we had already ordered. It wasn’t busy but we waited quite a while, the mince was awful literally cooked mince with what looked like instant gravy, no onions or anything else, the dumpling was extremely hard, we wondered if it was a bread roll. The steak pie was inedible, the prawns in the sandwich were dripping wet and so sloppy, the home cooked chips weren’t cooked, the peas were just about warm. Our dog enjoyed the experience, but he has low standards bless him. Even the tea in the pot was luke warm. What a waste of money.

Ordered and paid for food (4 bowls of chips), 45 minutes later we went and asked if it would be much longer and the chef said that he hadn’t even been sent our order through. Asked for our money back and left. What a waste of time! I would be more understanding if this was a one off, mistakes happen, but the girl behind the bar who refunded me said ‘it happens all the time’! Also was given soda water instead of lemonade. And the draught coke was flat. Please avoid, Tynemouth has so much more to offer than this place

Waited an hour for Sunday dinner without being told of the wait, eventually came and all the wrong meats for 3 of them then went on to wait a further ten minutes to receive freezing cold dinners that were £14 each and the smallest dinner you’ve seen for that price with watery gravy poured over the top. Would not recommend at all.

Absolutely awful experience. Ordered 3 bacon and one bacon and egg bap, at the time we were the only people in the pub. Waitress came over and told us they had no bacon, so after looking at the menu again for 5 minutes, waitress returned to tell us the bacon had just been delivered. 45 minutes later no food, so went to the bar to find out if our food was ready, only to be told rudely and curtly that she had told us the bacon had just arrived in and between our initial order and the bacon arriving in, other customers had come in and ordered so we had to wait as we were at the back of the queue! Sarnies were average with the egg overcooked and rubbery. Avoid at all costs!

My friend and I had a very disappointing Sunday lunch. We waited an hour for food yesterday 9th August. Food was Luke warm, vegetables overcooked and chicken overcooked and tough. Not up to usual standard have eaten here before. There was also no salt in 4 saltsellers, I asked a staff member for salt and am still waiting. We won't be back. Food reasonable priced and offer small portions which is a positive.

Monday, couldn’t make up my mind what wanted. Not sandwiches, not tapas, favourite place closed and rain looming so went in The Priory. Lovely bar staff, treats for dog but waited 30 minutes for abysmal meal - small fish and chips, £7.49. Portion as expected and fish reasonable but the first chip wasn’t cooked and the rest were a puddle of grease. Didn’t complain because I was hungry. Sauces snd cutlery self service but nowhere to decant mayo etc into the tiny tubs. I left a mess, sorry. Never again.

We called in for Sunday lunch today.we were a party of 7.the girl taking our order at the bar was struggling to comprehend the ordering process on the till and got our order wrong a couple of times.when we finally got our meals ordered and had our drinks we were told it would be 40 minutes ,which was ok . When the meals came there was no mash or roasts on any of the plates.i went back to the bar to ask if they were coming out separately but was told they had no potatoes 😲 They offered after drinks on the house which we declined and asked for something refunded from our bill. The beef was inedible,we had one carrot each and what was supposed to be cabbage ,and a Yorkshire? Two of us ordered trio of meat ,but only got two meats.this is the first time I have ever left a negative review but as this was a treat for my 75 year old mother for her birthday,I felt I had to complain. We were issued a full refund for the meals ,but the money was just slapped on the table without an apology.

Do not eat here. I'm sure this place pulls people in for a pint and the football, but it isn't an acceptable place for food. We visited The Priory for a quick lunch (sandwich, salad, and chips) and had to wait well over an hour for our simple food to arrive. We complained and were told only one chef was working that day. Within the nearly two hours we had to spend here, however, only four equally simple meals were served. The kitchen clearly wasn't busy and the wait isn't acceptable. I'm also not sure how much food is actually being made on site. A waitress walked in the main door with multiple bags of salad from the co-op over the road during our long wait. When the food did arrive it was largely unpleasant. The bagged salad was fine as was the coleslaw, but the sandwiches were flavourless and served on very dry buns. The beef in one sandwich was so tough it simply couldn't be eaten. The chips were average, but only 10 were served on each plate. The atmosphere was uninviting. The decor was very dark and uninviting, and there is way too much empty space alongside too few seating areas. It's like everyone has their own isolated island to dine from. The bathrooms were also very unpleasant and clearly not kept clean throughout the day. One member of our party used the female bathroom and had to navigate around a large pool of water on the floor with the help of another unhappy customer. A very unpleasant experience. I'm very annoyed at them for having taken my money, and also at myself for not demanding a refund, as it simply wasn't worth the value. Please do yourself a favour and check out the other places Tynemouth has to offer.

Stopped in for lunch while out for a family day trip. We had never heard of the priory before, stopping in quite randomly. I am so glad we did. There was a good selection of beer and the atmosphere was welcoming and relaxed. It was not overly busy but wasn’t quiet either. We enjoyed chilling with a few drinks before food. I can recommend the jack the devil local beer. We all had fish and chips. Our three year old had the child fish bites and they accommodated his love of mushy peas no problem. There was a little wait for the food, but I have no doubt everything was made fresh so this was in no way an issue. The food was beautiful. Having read other reviews I don’t know how people can say this was overpriced. Two adult fish and chips, a child’s fish and chips, two beers and a fruit shoot, £30. Given the price of everything these days, this was very reasonably priced. We absolutely loved this place and will definitely come back on our next visit to Tynemouth.

My daughter and I had a lovely few days staying at the Holiday Inn in Newcastle. Excellent value and very comfortable hotel. We had good meals and service in every venue we ate in except at the Priory. Thought Tynemouth was a great town and the Metro so handy. However our visit to the Priory was not good. My daughter had a couple of beers and a prawn salad. I had a pot of tea , glass of water and a tuna and sweetcorn sandwich on brown bread. We sat outside. Service was slow. When I poured my tea it tasted stewed or from a thermos. Opened the lid and it was caked with old tea bag buildup. The spout was cracked also. I took it inside and the waitress gave me another teapot. Neither of these pots had been in a dishwasher for ??????long. I stuck to my water. The bread was not fresh and was dried up at the edges. The prawn salad was watery. Toilets were smelly and not as clean as expected. Money had been spent on them to upgrade some time ago. Dogs were most welcome !!!!!Too welcome and too many. Ok outside but lying in the middle of the floor inside was like an obstacle course on way to the toilet. We did like sitting in the sun watching the world go by. Loved Tynemouth but sadly not the Priory Pub which was recommended to us by staff at the pub with the stuffed collie in the glass case. Only needed a light lunch as we had a very good breakfast.

We have been to this pub before and had a delicious meal. Sadly on this occasion this was not the case. Things first went wrong when my friend was served a rose wine with soda water and not lemonade as requested. Then the steak pies arrived with very pale pastry upon tasting the pastry it was not cooked and the meat luke warm.A member of staff was summoned and said she would get them replaced,no apology. Waited again and meals served with only slight difference in the pastry, my friends meat was tough. The only positive for this pub is that it's dog friendly. Will not be returning.

Booked a room for two nights, arrived last night to the whole place shut! I want a refund! We had to book into another hotel. Really not happy after a five hour journey
