I came back here after a year, and everything is still excellent! Oysters, prawns, squid – absolutely delicious! If you love seafood, you’ll be thrilled. Highly recommend!👍🏼💖

Quality food and offers much more than any chippy or seafood restaurant. Scampi was proper whole langoustine tails and not that reformed rubbish served everywhere else. Fish and chips were mega and the oysters best I've ever had. Homemade tarter sauce was thick and chunky, we asked for second helpings. Next time I'm trying their catch of the day special. Would defo recommend.

Excellent seafood, much cheaper than any other seafood restaurant, it’s truly amazing. The staff are wonderful. Best seafood in the northwest.

Calamari was tasty. Unfortunately the Cullen skink didn't taste or look like authentic cullen skink - more of very heavy blended potage, couldn't finish it.

The service was outstanding, a really warm welcome. The food was absolutely delicious and the right amount. The scampi and chips come highly recommended.

Sorry guys , the fish and chips were appalling . £17 over priced for a tiny fish and chips that was tasteless and I struggled to find fish in the gritty batter . Had to leave most of it as just couldn’t get the appetite .

Was told to try the food market , do we called in . I fancied fish and chips , do as I like to support local and although £17 I thought I’d have fish and chips . I was so looking forward to it , then I collected , WOW 😡 kids portion sprang to mind , then was told it’s a standard 7 oz 🤔 then decided I’d go eat . To my surprise , yuk , yuk total yuk , it was worse than frozen fish portions sold for £3 for 2 , the batter was award il and salty , the tartare watery and chips overdone and bitty . So , not only was the £17 overpriced for any fish and chips unless in a London pub , the size portioned were abysmal and the taste factor is of minus quality . On looking on here I see someone earlier also gave 1 / 5 and mentioned the £17 . There’s better fish and chip shops in Chester I’m sure ! I’ll certainly not be revisiting or recommending here , they need to revisit their USP of they have one . I feel gutted as I’m so ripped off 😡

Had the Moules Frites and it was exceptionally good. Sauce was absolutely delicious and great value as well for the meal. Would absolutely recommend

Food was very nice, but very small portion for the cost of the meal.

Had oysters on Saturday, woke up Monday and couldn’t leave the bed even now on Tuesday because of food poisoning.

This seafood heaven has fallen from the sky into the buzzy crammed place which is Chester Market - steps from the Cathedral and all the shops, seek out this wonderful place and cross your fingers they’ll be doing their fun and fabulous Skate au poivre - it comes with exquisite frites and I added some greens; the fish tacos were great too. We are miles from the coast so we’ll just add this to the list of reasons (and they are legion) that the residents of Chester are lucky blighters!

When you pay £17 for fish and chips supposedly the Chefs special you would expect quality. A small fish with frozen chips and lukewarm mushy peas. Poor poor poor do not try it was rubbish a complete waste of money

Excellent food, good service, quality produce ....all freshly prepared and served piping hot. Don't go to the market without stopping here.

Was so disappointed by the seafood chowder ... potato and sweetcorn but no visible seafood at all ... and really quite a small.portion for£12 ...

I had oysters and a pint of prawns. The oysters were expertly shucked and delicious. The whole market has a great vibe. Lots of eateries and a nice bar. Staff at the shack were really friendly.

Wow it’s not often I am impressed. I was blown away by the service I received this evening, when I was very skeptical to try something new. I am not normally a fish person at all, however the gentleman that served me was extremely welcoming, and as a result I tried the Taramaslata Crostini, allowing me to taste a little bit before I purchased which I found extremely kind, the Crostini was absolutely stunning and full of flavour. I can’t wait to come back and try your fish tacos! 😀 Thank you so much for making my experience brilliant. I would Highly recommend.

Amazing high quality seafood made with love

My favourite place to eat in the new marketplace. The food is incredible, the staff are the best and while market is just a great place to sit and eat with friends.

Superb mussels and chips with a proper Belgian tasting mayo. Quick service, plentiful portion and I’d happily come again if I’m in Chester.

We had the Chefs special of the day, Scottish Mackerel with beetroot and fennel …. A really lovely meal. Highly recommend 👍👍

Extremely under whelming experience. Customer service skills and food quantity. Ordered fish of the day tacos and was told by the chef that it would be about 10 mins which was fine as I was in no rush. After 25 mins I still had not received notice it was ready so I approached the counter in case it had been missed. When I asked, I was abruptly told by another person who now started to assist in the cooking "it will be a few minutes." Food was plated up and put on the counter. Next I was told "take one of them" Very poor customer interaction. This alone has prompted me to write the review which is not something I do regularly. Now for food, well I was shocked to by the amount of or should I say the lack of fish in the 3 tacos. Similar to previous review very little fish, one small piece in each taco and filled out with slaw. Tacos themselves where also very chewy. Due to these issues I will not be returning. Suggest a course in manners and customer service needs to be taken by the second person.

We try to eat here every time we’re in Chester. It’s hard to believe that food of this quality can come from a “market stall”. The menu varies depending on what is seasonal but there’s always something there to tempt. My favourites are the deep fried oysters…the paella and the soft shelled crab. Highly recommend

I got fish Tacos. They were very tasty and the blokes serving were good and helpful. Just was let down by the quantity of the fish in the tacos. I spent £18 and expected to taste some fish for that, there was probably less than one decent bite of fish which made this poor value. It came with a salad which again was really good. But if I’m buying fish tacos and paying that amount I expect more than just salad really.

Absolutely the best I've had in a long time

First time to Chester, highly recommend the Chester Market and Sandbar Seafood. The person behind the counter answered all of our questions with courtesy and offered samples of the sauces when we asked if they were spicy. My husband had the Pint of Prawns and I had the Soft Shell Crab Burger. We both loved our selections and would highly recommend!

I was looking forward to the crab dish,but it was dried up and not very tasty. The staff were not very friendly ,must have been a long weekend?

Definitely one of the best fish and chips! Very kind and friendly staff. Lots of friendliness and professionalism. Reasonable waiting times considering the crowded market. There is no table service There are tables in the central area of ​​the market. Reasonable prices considering the location. Very convenient parking near the market. Excellent reference point if you are shopping in Chester. Super recommended.

Food is nice, just hardly anything on the menu and always have run out of everything, by the time I get there. So yet to see the full potential

The menu was disappointing, seafood shack did not live up to it's name. Hoping for lovely seafood dishes we were met with a menu of burgers, crab burger, prawn burger, fish in a bun. You can see the pattern, shame because it had the chance to stand out against all the other stalls. However it was spotlessly clean and the staff were friendly.

Beautiful food and very tasty. Lots of flavour and beautifully presented. Would recommend.

"The Sandbar Seafood Shack" is a gem of a find on our day trip out to Chester! If you love seafood, you must, must give this place a visit in the Chester Market! The softshell crab burger is heavenly! So fresh and perfectly cooked as well as tasting delicious! Definitely morish! The service is friendly and the time of ordering at the shack to the time of it being ready (the hand device given with your order number will vibrate, light up and beep) was quick (there wasn't a queue at the time for a late lunch at 2.10pm, Thursday, 26th January). A variety of sauces were also available, if you wish to use them. Drinks menu is limited though, but they make it up for the fantastic food!

Beyond amazing. We had the crab burger and the special fries. I don't know what the secret seasoning on the fries is, but I've tried for several nights to replicate it. This place deserves to be a fully fledged restaurant.

Amazing food! Sooo tasty and very good portion sizes. We got the crab burger and calamari (and the skin on fries which were massive) but I believe the menu changes quite often so will be back to try as much as I can.

Martin's food is pure genius! I am addicted to The Sandbar. Best seafood in Chester for us. Portuguese cod fritters, his take on surf and turf, grilled mackeral with panzanella salad.. So many gems from him... Can't wait to be back! You are the best Mart... So incredibly lucky to find you in Chester 🤩

Came here a few weeks ago on a whim, walking round Chester market. Easily the highlight of my trip! The softshell crab burger was so light, crispy and flavourful, with just the right amount of sauce and spice. Highly recommend coming here if you're in the area - especially paired with a white wine, you can't go wrong 😍
