The staff were unfriendly and unhelpful, the portions were very small and overpriced – £2.95 for regular chips! The chips seemed to be from earlier in the day, tasting stale and unappetizing. To make matters worse, the food was cooked in old oil, leaving a bad taste. Be aware of the £4 minimum charge for card payments. There are far better chippies in Frodsham. EJ Fry Days is now very poor quality. Avoid like the plague.

Fantastic chips! I didn't know what my fiance (who is from Frodsham) was going on about when she was constantly raving on about 'chips in the North'. This was until we travelled up from Hampshire. Wow. I now know exactly what she means - they are delicious and much better than anything we produce in the south.

I have a love hate relationship with this place, when it’s good it’s brilliant but when it’s bad I’m afraid it’s inedible. I’ve commented before on the food here and had decided after the last disappointment I wouldn’t be going back, well’ after many months we thought we would try it again, it was great! Then a beef meal I couldn’t eat and told them so. Then Saturday last we tried again, my chicken and black bean sauce was disgusting, what they are trying to pass off as chicken I’ve no idea but it’s not what I recognise as chicken, I gave it to the dog. I won’t be going back! I should have called called trading standards it was that bad!

first visit back in ages - two chinese meals - beef green pepper black bean sauce/duck with pineapple and ginger - sauce very very watery and duck was just bits of fat and very little meat - nowhere near as good as it used to be - not going back in a hurry

Absolutely delicious fish and chips! Ordered x7 fish and chips, which were all neatly packaged in strong boxes perfect for keeping the meals nice and hot for our drive back to our holiday villa. Friendly and generous staff even gave us some extras for free! My friends and I were all really impressed by the taste and freshness. Don't often review fish and chip shops but this meal ended up being a real highlight of the holiday. You can also get authentic Chinese food there, which we didn't try but looked really good.

For many years this was a good chippy and we visited regularly, but a number of poor experiences a few years back had kept us away until last night. Sorry to report that things have not improved. Service is poor and unwelcoming. The food itself was disappointing and over-priced for the quality. Plenty of better places nearby, so this return trip goes down as a failed experiment.

Called in at 6.30 to pick up fish and chips for the tea, I asked for fish and large chips was told that they have stopped doing large chips so I had to take 2 medium instead!! Please explain why I can it order a large chips?? Ended up spending over £20 The two fish I bought were awful, they must have been left over from the day before and re fried, they were inedible and we threw them away. A real disappointment as it used to be good will not return

Disgusted with this place. Absolute rip off. Went into Frodsham to watch Christmas parade, so went this chippy with the kids. I wondered why it was empty on a busy night, but I didn't wait long to realise why. 2 bags of chips and a so called fish. £12.50. The fish was 6.50, for what can only be described as the smallest piece of fish I've seen. I think it may have been a minnow. The majority of it being batter. I actually thought they had made a mistake and given me the scraps of batter or a quarter of the fish and the other 3 quarters had fell on the floor. I went back in and questioned if the fish I had been given was actually 6.50 worth or they had made a mistake, to be told that was the 6.50 piece of fish. The bag of chips was so small my 4 year old was complaining she was still hungry following the fish and chips and asked me to go back in. Obviously I didn't go near the place again. The so called chips were mainly crispy left over bits. And the portion 3 quid. Daylight robbery at its finest. I know times are tough but the likes of this chippy putting prices up so high and cutting back massively on what they give only add to the problem. Will never go back again. Avoid

Just called into E.J'S frodsham fish and chips shop to pick up a ordered meal by telephone. Which was fish, chips, peas,and curry sauce, evening meal. Which i was told it would be £10.50p. When I arrived to pick up the evening meal for a friend on time, I was told it was £10.60p. I explained I only have £10.50p in cash by the person i was picking up meal for. I was told by lady who serviced me NO it's £10.60p so I left with no fish and chips evening meal. Terrible service and attitude for 10 pence.

Visited this evening and there was one other person in the shop. 4 people behind the counter and 3 smiled at me. I started to place my order and was interrupted with ‘ we’re serving this person’. I stepped back and then someone else walked in and placed their order. The person being served left and everyone behind the counter talked amongst themselves. I felt ignored and left. I won’t be going again.

Fish, chips and curry sauce, best part of 10 quid. The chips were chewy, not at all hot, almost like they had been reheated, I'm sure they weren't pehaps the oil isnt hot enough, im no expert. The fish was small, usually we can share a fish in most places but it wasn't very big, the fish was more batter than fish and the batter was chewy like the chips. Maybe its the oil. The curry sauce was really nice and spicy but not hot, as in heat not spice. I'll be honest I've been several times and given the place many chances as I live at the top of the road and it's convenient, if they put as much effort into the food as they do into the banter with the customers it would be great, I'm sure. Had a Chinese from there not long ago which was lovely but the chicken was dried up, not fresh. Personally I think ej's trades on reputation rather than quality. I've walked passed several times after lunch trade at around 2pm and they have pies in the heater which are the same pies you buy at 430pm when they open again. It's ok food but there's plenty better in frodsham, that my personal opinion.

I gave this one star because you can't select no stars. I have just had the worst food I've ever had from EJ Fridays. It was just chips, boiled rice and curry. I asked for the curry separate as I like to add my own. The chips were dry and shrivelled but still edible, the curry sauce was disgusting. It was thin and tasteless with tiny lumps floating around. It only takes one bad meal to put people off returning and this was the one for me!! What's happened? This used to be the best chippy in Frodsham but now I would say its the worst!!

Fish and chips are OK but wouldn't recommend the Chinese food from here. Got the mandarin chicken and the meat was really gristly, binned most of it. Not cheap either!

Great pre-ordering procedure and always aware of time. Superb fresh cooked fish and chips.

I know running a chippy through CV-19 is hard BUT the system here of mixing telephone, online & shop orders with priority to online orders but NO separate queue makes for utter chaos. Never found out what the food was like as after 15 minutes I just gave up and went to the other chippy in the town centre and got served straight away !!!!!! Simple is beautiful ......

Apparently this pathetic, sorry portion of mushed chips is a large. Get more in a cone elsewhere, so just go anywhere else, really anywhere would be better.

Don't use the online ordering system. You'll never get your food on time. They typically need 3 hours to get your order to you. Best go in person or just go to the one next to Top Taste - they're lightening quick by comparison and the quality is just as good (possibly better).

Lost on bike, found this place and absolutely lovely chips peas n gravy and price was spot on. Cheers guys.

The quality of the food from this chippy is top notch! The Chinese food is brilliant, and the fish and chips in a box is very very good. Always find the staff friendly. Best chippy around.

I had fish and chips from here tonight very nice. My only disappointment was the staff. They have a sign in the window saying, batman saved the world with a mask on. There were three employees behind the counter two of which were not wearing masks. The person cooking the food had his mask half on and half off. What more can I say food 10 out of 10 Not complying with government rules on restricting the spread of covid 19 0 out of 10

Slow sevice and average food. I won't bother again.

Good f&c service even during lockdown

This is the second time I have been let down by this chip shop. Enough is enough, I will not shop there again and will slso be telling all my friends and family about my experience Phoned up and ordered food. They said they had no spicy curry so would have to be mild. So agreed that would be ok. We irdered chicken fried rice and curry. We arrived to pick our order up and were told that there was no curry and did we want something else to go with the chicken fried rice. We said there is nothing other than curry that we want. We then were told we would have to wait while they made the curry, while this was happening our chicken fries rice was sat on the side getting cold. They just gave us them cold with the curry. £17,10 it cost us. It is just not good enough that you try to fob us off and then you give cold food. The curry was awful. This use to be a good chippy and now its gone down hill. Charges far too much for lower than stsndard food. I for one will not be going back.

We ordered a takeaway this afternoon at 1.30pm to be delivered this evening, for tea, at 7.20pm. It didn’t arrive. Waiting patiently, we eventually telephoned at 8.20pm ( an hour later) to ask where our order was to be told that it was leaving the shop in 10 minutes time. It eventually arrived at 8.50pm... unacceptable! The food was equally unacceptable. Chips had been recooked and beef chilli dish had no taste / flavour whatsoever. It s appeared that our meal had been ‘thrown’ together Avery last minute. There was no apology from the member of staff when we called which again is poor. I would not recommend this establishment based upon food and definitely not based upon service!

Was slightly disappointed. Use to love this place years ago but ordered tonight and chips didn’t taste great. I ordered sausage dinner and expected it to come with peas aswell for the price but was literally sausage, gravey and chips. Kids chips were dry and Iv definitely had better from other local chip shops.

Lovely fish and chips and the Chinese dishes are decent. Good to be able to order ahead either online or by phone, and they even do delivery although I have not used that so far.

Only place to go for your fish and chips or Chinese meals.

Very expensive for average food

Ordered via their new online ordering system. Ordered 2 x Fish and Chips only at 5pm. I only live less than 1 mile away from the shop. I would have normally picked it up but due to the virus i thought it best to order online and get it delivered. I asked for a 5:20 delivery slot. I would have been happy with 5:30pm however it didn't arrive until 6:20! How can fish and chips take we'll over an hour to cook and deliver to a house less than 1 mile away?!

Walked in and looked at the cooked items under the glass range, then I noticed the colour of the clothing on the lady serving so I walked out, I have had fish and chips from here before and should have known better they were tastless greasy swimming in what ever they fry in, the people dont smile talk to you, as far as I am concerned KEEP AWAY

Very busy, long queue. Seem to serve more Chinese than fish and chips. Not very well organised as messed up a few orders while we were waiting. Chips were cooked okay. Not too impressed.

Bought a meal deal for 2 fish and large chips but was disappointed when we got home to find the dregs of the fryer in our bag. We shared the scraps of chips they’d given us but the fish was not appetising at all . £11 down the drain but lesson learned.

Great fish and chips, freshly cooked, with a good curry sauce, were busy as a Friday night, but served quickly, and was a good sized portion.

Long drive and needed food fast. Food was all right, fish was soggy and the chips a little undercooked. My main issue was the state of the staff uniforms, the foreign lady who served me looked like she had been wearing here shirt for weeks on end without it ever having seen the inside of a washing machine. The other two lads were not much better. Not a good advertisement and it made me wonder about the state of the rest of the shop.

Was told this is the best chip shop in Frodsham but have to disagree. Sign on door says they accept cards Was only told after ordering that there is a £7 minimum transaction limit for such payment so had to go to atm across the street. My chips were left on top if the counter and were thus half cold by the time I got to eat them

Called here for quick lunch for my husband and I. Very expensive fish tastes awful soggy batter on my fish tastless. My husband's fish needed a chainsaw to get through the batter very small portions of chips. We took some sausages home for my son they were almost raw inside .would not buy from here again.

It's a chippy with a great menu. Park on Eddisbury Square. Can be busy at times but worth the wait. Enjoy !

Never fail to get a great meal, crispy chilli beef and sweet and sour chicken are always a fave.

This is the second time ive eaten from this chippy and will certainly be the last. First time we ordered via the phone for collection, my partners entire meal was missing when we arrived home, the food was very nice on this occasion. We were once more in the area and so decided to go back, again we phoned up the order for collection, once again got all the way home and they had left off the two portions of chips we clearly asked for on the phone, which left us with just the fish and cartons of sauce with nothing to dip into, as a result i went to a chippy local to me to get chips and by that time our other food was cold and thus disgusting. We ordered fish, horrible, scollops, basically just batter and chips which were not included so massive waste of my time and money. Staff more interested in watching the liverpool football match on the television even cheering out loud, very unprofessional establishment would rather starve then give them another penny.

I never learn, I would never order fish from here, not good, but the Chinese is lovely, Problem is the quantity of chips served with meals, (the portion size was greatly reduced not long ago), so I try to circumnavigate this. I made a phone order for Beef Curry & chips and Chicken & Black Bean sauce with a "large" portion of chips and I would happily pay the difference. Problem solved, or so I thought. I went to collect our eagerly awaited takeaway and again reminded the server that I would like one of the chip portions to be made up to large which she acknowledged. I calculated the cost to be £13.50 for the meals and an extra approximately 60p for the chips, totalling £14.10 (ish). When she asked for the money it was £15.00. Now I know that doesn't sound a lot but I wanted to know how she calculated it so I asked, To cut a long story short she had charged me for an extra portion of chips. She could not grasp that I wanted to "Go Large" with the chip portions.

Regular whilst holidaying in the area and super impressed, not only their generous portions, but the high number of staff serving (reducing the usual wait time) and super friendly attitude. Prices are also competitive.

OK, so in my last revue I said I would never go back,but I did. I arrived home from Los Angeles at 8.30 PM absolutely starving (you know what airline food is like) and bought Fish & Chips again. It was awful, indescribable, pathetic. Strait in the bin again. The owner of this establishment should be prosecuted for crimes against Fish. Learn from my stupidity.

I love this chippy! The chips are always freshly made and the fish is delicious. I’ve had a few Chinese meals, you get plenty and it’s always cooked to perfection. The staff are really nice, polite and efficient.

The chips that came with my chicken and green pepper with black bean sauce were enough to make a butty with a few left over, I queried this and paid extra for a bigger portion, £8.05p. Saturday night takeaway is a treat! Not a diet! You can buy a 50lb bag of potatoes for a fiver so where's the problem? That's it for me, I won't be going back.

Used to be my favourite chippy for over 10 years, but I got the smallest bag of chips ever last night yet again. The portion size is so inconsistent depending who is serving you. The chips were lovely, but hardly any in the bag. This is the last time I'll go there now.

There;s always a big queue here, so we waited patiently for the takeaway. It was over 40 minutes, and we were told that regular customers know about the wait. The food wasn't wort that long wait at all, though.

Having been away for a couple of days we decided not to bother cooking our evening meal and to have fish and chips instead. Bad move. I ordered two fish and a large chips for me and the Wife costing £10.40. We had to throw the fish in the bin, the batter was so hard it shattered when attempting to cut into it and the fish inside was as dry as cotton wool ( not as tasty though ) , even the dogs wouldn't eat it. I should have taken it back but I didn't want to waste more money on petrol. Given the choice of eating this or starving to death, I would choose to starve. Don't think I'll return.

Really tasty food and a good choice off Chinese food

Best fish and chips around. We live within walking distance of two fish and chip shops but would rather get in the car and drive over 3 miles to get a decent edible portion. The chips are clean and tasty and the paper is not soaked in grease when you open them up. More expensive than the local places but you get what you pay for. I'd rather pay more and enjoy it.

The chips are currently well off form. Don't know what's happened because a few months ago they did the best chips for miles.

Went their for a chip shop meal. First tried to order cheeseburger, assuming like 99% of chip shops it would do, informed they didn't do it only battered burger. Tried to order a battered sausage, a British chip shop staple, informed they don't do that either, only do unbattered sausage. What a terrible chip shop, shouldn't be allowed the title chip shop!!! DONT GO.
