Service was rushed young Girl gave us a dirty glass and a young lad cooking was complaining its understaffed. And he's rushed off his feet. And then girl over charged me at the till. So not good Service.

Lovely fish and chips. Lovely ice cream to finish it off as well. Very friendly staff.

I allways go to this fish and chips cafe thay are home cooked and thay batter there fish 🐟 by hand cooked to profection I love them.

We keep trying this place (always very slow) but won’t using again, miserable and rude staff, food ok but be prepared to wait an age even though only 5 tables occupied.

Took my sister for a treat staff was run by kids took a while for food fish chips was nice but gravy could stand your spoon in it asked for hot water in it still thick lumpy young ones couldn't think on there feet after paying told them take the gravy off bill young kids wanted to aurgu about it but another lady took it off seen young girls pulling faces sniggering rude staff they look like they didn't want to be there !!!

Great little place was very few spaces when we arrived then soon got very busy with customers. but staff did well as very popular place and food was great thank you

Service was brilliant, food very nice but portions size for value for money wasn't great. Over £80 for 2 adults and 5 children.

Spring roll was good, but my large chips weren't a big portion, were undercooked, and were expensive

Had cod and chips special with side of gravy, absolutely gorgeous food! Waiting staff were very polite and responsive. Did have to wait a while for food to be served which wasn’t really an issue for us. I would have gave it 5 stars but for a man behind the counter barking orders at the young girls who as far as I could tell, were doing their best on a busy Saturday lunch time. His shouting silenced all the customers at one point which really spoilt the whole experience.

Staff take as long as they want. Took nearly half an hour to get fish and chips in here last week. Chip portions are laughably small for a chippy. Do they not have enough potatoes or something? It's a shame because the last couple of chippies there closed, so I can see this one going too if people are satisfied with it.

Orderd via, Just Eat. Courier rang me. He was at the wrong address. Told him that I was at the Premier Inn. He asked for the order code, wich I didn't know was proof of delivery. Never saw him or my food after that. He wouldn't answer his phone and I couldn't find a number to shop. I've basically been robbed of £17+

Was seated straight away by a youge girl came and took our order we had a pot of tea for to that came half an hour before our fish and chips so it was cold asked for a replacement which was given our fish and chips arrived which were cold we also ordered peas which did not arrive till 5mins after and ordered bread that we had to ask for after a complaint from myself they did us a fresh order with was average nothing special for the £35 we payed would not recommend to anybody

Never got as far as the food so can't comment - I've no issues with counter staff but the 'wait' staff are kids who haven't got a clue - I witnessed an elderly woman with mobility issues put onto a table next to the entrance so she was a) freezing cold and b) couldn't sit down properly. I gave her my seat further down the virtually empty restaurant and left without ordering. To whoever owns this; TRAIN YOUR WAIT STAFF.

Dec 2024.. I went for fish special - nothing special about it. Fish was so flat it defo was not a fish but a sIiver, peas cold and even though it states served with lemon and tartar sauce, we had to ask for tartar sauce and the slice of lemon was so thin you wasn't getting a drop to squeeze on ur fish. Service was adequate but no please or thank you. Was expensive and defo not worth the price. If you want a decent fish & chips I would avoid here. Toilets dirty and smelled and seat broke. Only used as we had a long car journey to get home.

Really bad service tonight. Reused to cook any GF chips for me. Usually not a problem cooking to order, but obviously couldn't be bothered today.

2nd worst fish n chips I’ve had. Tatty restaurant, chair stained and toilets dirty, and skirtings and tiles in restaurant damaged. So poor.

They overcharged me and the food was a bit rubbish tbh. I don't think it was anyone's fault but still 6 pounds down the drain

Expensive for what it is. Takeaway is a long wait. Been 3 weeks on the run and each time they have got the order wrong. They can't understand the concept of making a meal from your order. We ask for 2 pies chips and gravy and get it all packaged up separately and then they miss out a chips. And takes them 25 mins to get it all ready. Very understaffed each time we go and evident so many people are walking away because they are fed up of waiting. We'll be making the extra walk to another chippy next time

1st visit here, chips cold just like a cheap chippy, staff miserable maybe because they knew the standard of food they was serving, would not go back there and would not recommend, on a plus the pot of tea was nice.

Visited Chester's on a Saturday evening. Was served by a really rude guy behind the till. Thankfully a much more pleasant young woman took over and sorted our order out for us. Everyone else working there was barking orders or arguing with each other. Chips were decent but fairly small portion sizes given the prices. Overall nothing to write home about.

Portion sizes here are shocking large chips literally about 20 chips for almost a fiver wasn't even that nice staff are miserable

Had a gluten free meal here today 19 Oct, plus a dessert. Staff were super helpful and we were reassured that everything was cooked and prepared in a separate station from the non gluten options, we were visiting for the day but were delighted to learn that they also have a shop in our town so that's where we will be going next! Staff were great! Thank you

The food was very tasty if a little basic, the portions were good. Service was a little poor but not bad. It's a very basic kind of place but the prices reflect that.

Found a fried FLY with my Fish which made me throw up the food. They reduced my bill for this but they need to be careful with the Food Hygiene.

I was passing through Chester and needed to fill a couple of hours. As a coeliac, I was pleasantly surprised to see a fish and chip place come up as a safe place, and another review suggested they always did gluten free. I was not disappointed! The fish and chips were like proper fish and chips but safe for me to eat, something I haven't enjoyed in over 2 years. The staff were attentive and friendly, even as the place filled up for lunch. Would recommend to all, especially coeliac looking for a treat! (No photo - I ate it too quickly!)

Fish and chips tasty and fresh. The place is quite large, but not very atmospheric, and the prices are quite affordable.

All the staff looked as if they wanted to die. After reading reviews from the last two years this is clearly a recurring issue. We ordered our drinks and I asked for two minutes to decide on food and the waitress stood there staring at me until I chose what I wanted. Not even a slight smile, felt like she wanted me to perish with her to be honest. Then food came and my poor boyfriend’s braised steak was a pot filled with 2 small pieces of steak swimming with loads of mushrooms and onions. Chips were lovely though. Then we had freshly made crepes with fruit. That definitely were not freshly made and had rations of fruit in them with cream that put that weird coating on your teeth. All of this cost us over £50. In a fish and chip shop. I will say though that we would come back just for how comical it was how miserable the staff were, made our visit very entertaining😁

I was there sunday had liver onion and mushroom with mashed poto excellent I did mention to the staff a crusty bread roll would have gone down well carnt waste good gravy 😉 so maybe the management might consider this in future I fully recomend Chesters chippy

Nice place good location and friendly staff.

The food is so good but the service isn't always great, they get less and less polite if you ask them to repeat themselves if you struggle to hear. They are often curt to the point of snappishness, with the occasional very friendly and nice staff member. I wouldn't recommend sitting in if you're hungry as it takes much much longer to be served than the take away. Overall, the food makes it almost worth it but not quite enough for sitting in.

I got a takeaway portion of large chips, it was really good. Service was friendly and quick too. Pretty decent for a chippy. I was just visiting chester and stumbled across it. If you like curry sauce, this is a must go to, my gf had it with her chips and it was lovely. Ps. The cone of chips offers a generous portion too.

Ordered food and drinks, got drinks, then politely waited around 30 mins before going to till, explained food hadn't arrived and was told the order hadn't been put in. We paid for drinks and left. Staff seemed unconcerned..

Came across Chesters by accident. Great service, pleasant environment, very clean, excellent food with good variety available, all at reasonable prices. Will definitely return again.

I ate there yesterday ordered a gluten free meal my chips arrived but I had to wait for nearly 5 minutes for the gluten free gravy but the time before I ordered pot of tea with my meal when it arrived it was a pot of hot water they did rectify that mistake

Standard, standard English fare. A little boring, but great fish and chips.

The food was really good the only reason I have given 4stars and not 5 is the £1.70 charge for having cheese as an extra on more potato that seems very excessive to me 70p yes NOT £1.70 the rest of the meal was very good value

Decent fish and chips, fish was large and freshly cooked.

The cod was really tasty, with crisp thin batter. The fish as a whole looked pretty flat; I almost thought that they served me plaice instead. Chips were well done; not greasy or flaky. You have a choice of drinks there, as well as desserts.

Food mediocre at best, strange service though. The guy kept farting while he was serving (or at least it seemed) very off putting. Not sure if he had mild learning difficulties so I would upgrade be a 2 star if so. He must’ve let off maybe 15-20 farts in the space of 2 minutes, food tasted like he had farted into it.

Pure discrimination. We got for a large fish and chips less food than a regular customer than ordered small portion. The small portions we ordered were like chicken size. Not enough chips in the shop??????

I had a cheeseburger and chips delivered to my home. The chips were eatable but the cheeseburger was the worst I have ever had. The meat kept falling out and pieces were breaking off. Very disapointing!

I dined in chester's on 18/6/24, i was not happy wth their small fish & chips...fish batter was light & crispy on top but sloppy & wet underneath as if kept warm by steam, chips were double cooked, hard, dark brown then covered up with a few freshly cooked chips on top deliberately to mask the mess, this is the 2nd time i've experienced the same LOW QUALITY food..tables & condiments are NOT clean...tourists visit there they have passing trade but NOT a good reputation locally... I WON'T VISIT THERE AGAIN!!! I had to give one star to post my comment..NO STARS is more suitable !!!

Great meal. Reasonable value. Only downside were the loud staff shouting behind the counter. Seen worse though. Would still recommend.

Fish supper was superb, one of the best I have eaten.

Nice small fish and chip shop with good service and good food. I was impressed with the battered fish, very crispy and no sogginess in sight! I would say it's on the slightly dearer side for the portion you get.

First visit here with my Mum. No wait to be seated. She had the prawn salad, which she said was quite filling. I had steak pie and chips, which was absolutely delicious. Coffee for Mum, and 2 Earl Grey teas for me, very tasty. I would highly recommend a visit here. Lovely food, pleasant staff, reasonably priced.

Went in today. Not busy. Staff unhelpful. Tried to engage with staff. Nothing. Waited nearly 10 minutes to order. Whilst we were seated a visitor asked for a pie and was told to look at the menu above. We walked out. Such poor service. Walked past 5 minutes later and the Visitor was just coming out with her pie.

I personally feel the drinks and desserts are well worth trying, delicious. Maybe avoid the cheese fry it, little bit greasy, everything else I've tried here is good though. Nice atmosphere, fairly spacious

I was excited to randomly stumble upon a fish and chips place with gluten free options! I am always wary of eating gluten-free foods out, as someone with celiac disease I have to be careful of what I eat. I had no reactions to any of the food and it was wonderful to have a meal out.

I have used this establishment on a few separate occasions both in the restaurant and used as a take away, the food they serve is delicious, the fish is fresh and mainly cooked to order the chips are perfect! crunchy on the outside and soft and fluffy in the middle and always without an ounce of grease on them. They really are worth are try as I believe there the best in the city. Aside from the food there is one particular employee who is such a lovely kind person and very pleasant I am unsure of his name but after chatting with him I know he was a former zoology student. His customer service manner is excellent.

Two couples and a dog stopped here for a meal while in Chester. Everyone welcomed including the dog. Food was lovely,a mix of fish and chips pie and mash, and a separate plate of sausage for the dog. Staff were lovely, very welcoming happy to go over menus and swaps we could do. Would highly recommend

Very nice chippy, food is cooked very well and always brilliant. Portion sizes tend to be a bit small for what is being paid - but it’s expected in the area.

Best GF fish and chips I’ve ever had

Please make sure you eat something before you visit this place the portions suit a ten year old at best! Sat inside and paid double the price for half the amount. Visited many sit in chippy’s over the years this is by far the worst. Stay away just awful!!

Always been to chesters fish and chips when visiting never again ordered lighty battered haddock and chips with gravy got back to hotel fish was over cooked chips were refried and were awful gravy was the gravy we lighted all went in bin never going back again

I wish I could rate zero star, but this platform does not allow. The fish and chips was average while the service made me lose my appetite. The entire place was managed by one and only server. it doesn’t seem feasible. I have been waiting for a server for awhile, but she keeps walking away and went to the tables who are behind us.

It was my husband’s birthday last Saturday. We were going to a candlelit concert at the cathedral. As a very special treat, I decided to go to Chester’s…. Having heard it was extremely good. We were not disappointed! The food was first rate, served by Jacob, who was just a delight to meet.

Had lunch here yesterday, and fish and chips were perfect. Curry sauce is very tasty as well. Large fish and chips were about £11 and the smaller portion was about £7 so it was good value for money. Special mention to the waitress who was on her first day and a little nervous but really attentive and happy smiley, and did a great job of looking after us.

Gone downhill last couple of months, slow service, sometimes even ignored,toilets often closed,abruptly told today cash only, she let me know there's a bank across the road, there's also a bookies near by,they will get my money before I bother with this place again.
