What a god forbidden, cold, uninviting, unwelcoming, miserable establishment to come for a drink. Does this place have a death wish or what ……… Who would walk through the doors twice? And overpriced to boot.

Very disappointing. Have been here many times before and really enjoyed. Unfortunately on this occasion although the food was very good the pub was freezing cold. Not comfortable to sit in a place eating when you feel cold. The food is very good but not cheap so a bit of warmth is not much to ask for.

We had booked at another establishment in Ludlow but unfortunately they had kitchen problems and were unable to serve food. It was the first day of the Ludlow Food Festival so all decent places in town were fully booked. The Salwey Arms was the best alternative in the circumstances. We popped in to have a look round and possibly book a table later in the evening. We were stopped just inside the front door by an over zealous member of staff who initially thrust a menu into our hands but promptly removed it when we explained the situation and proceeded to book a table for us. We arrived for our booking. The person who greeted us (not the one who made the booking) seemed startled by our sudden appearance, checked the bookings sheet, then darted away muttering that they may not have a table ready for us. We were shown into a large, bleak, cold, empty side room, given menus and left alone. After around 20 minutes, my husband went into the bar to look for a member of staff and order drinks. They were eventually delivered and our order taken, at which point we were told that there would be a wait for the food because they had not expected to be busy that night. About 45 minutes later, when we had decided to leave, partly because the room was so cold and because there was no sign of any food - one sausage and mash, one chicken breast and two fish and chips - my husband again went to the bar to see what was happening. Shortly after the food arrived, with apologies for the delay. It was an hour after we had arrived. The food was okay but nothing special. My small portion of chicken breast (more like poussin) was delicious and perfectly cooked. However, the green beans were so al dente they were raw and impossible to eat. Four main courses, two glasses of pinot grigio, a pint of beer and a glass of water cost £90! We were glad to leave and will not go back. My mixed feelings are because I genuinely don't know if the staff are indifferent, careless, ill trained, or stressed, maybe all of those things. It was certainly not a warm, happy atmosphere yet at times they did seem to genuinely try. They did seem completely overwhelmed even in the afternoon when there were very few customers.

Dinner out with family while on holiday in Ludlow. Beautiful menu with (eventually) three tasty meals and drinks. Service wasn't brilliant and many errors made but the food was delicious, so that made up for the silly mistakes this Restaurant made. Sadly this Restaurant will only serve what is on the menu and won't adjust food to your liking. My son just asked if he could have 3 plain sausages instead of the variety of a mix sausage with the dish but was told he couldn't order that as the trio of sausages and mash is a standard dish and cannot be changed. How ridiculous!!! Yet the kids menu, offered a similar dish exactly the same but cannot to be made into a larger for an adult portion!!! Do check your bill at the end of your meal as we had been charged for pints of drinks when we only ordered halves. Lovely place as a one off but sadly won't be going again. Shame as we had been recommended to go!!

Drinks order taken, by mature waitress, told there wasn’t enough decaffeinated coffee for us; then there was. 15 minutes later food order taken, same waitress, grumbled when we wanted poached eggs & no black pudding with the full English. Told the kitchen won’t like it. The wait for food was so long we asked when it would arrive. It was served one hour after we’d entered the pub. I asked a young waitress for a glass of water while my friend was still eating. She went away & was sent back saying she’d clear the table then bring the water. We requested the water as we’d not finished eating. After seeking advice the glass of water arrived. I felt sorry for her as she had been instructed in what to say to us. At least one other party left the room without a cooked breakfast and we could hear other diners asking about their food. I appreciate the food is freshly cooked to order but one hour and rude service is not worth the wait.

Visited for Sunday lunch whilst staying nearby. We had the Sunday lunch and a dessert each. Could not fault the food. In fact, the Sunday dinner was probably one of the best we've had for a long time. Desserts were a little on the expensive side but absolutely delicious. As another reviewer has said, we did have to wait for service. Main meals came promptly but after they brought the dessert menu we had to wait a long time until anyone came to take the order and also had to wait to pay. Would 100% return though. Would recommend the local cider they serve!

We three arrived about 12.20 and ordered, from the bar menu, 2 steak sandwiches and one ploughmans at 12.40. By 1.20, with no sign of our order, we enquired at the bar and were surprised to see our order ticket being retrieved from the floor. Our order arrived about 10 minutes later and the 'minute steak' could not be cut with a knife nor chewed. It was returned and cheese sandwiches supplied. No charge was made for the steak. While waiting this long the discomfort caused by the hard seated upright backed chairs became even more noticeable. Recommendation. Avoid the Salwey Arms unless you ar seeking Brisith Pub food and service of yesteryear.

Well what has happened to The Salwey attentive, kind staff and good food within the last couple of months ? Shame on you! As part of a hardworking NHS team The Salway was the preferred choice for our Christmas meal 2023, after having a lovely meal and ladies night out back in September. No one hesitated to agree to attend again even though they are certainly not the cheapest in and around Ludlow. There was 2 menus on offer - Christmas menu and Winter menu. To ensure they could accommodate 9 people in the middle of December the ladies offered to submit their choices beforehand. This was our intention to make things easier for 'chef' to ensure all ingredients were available and for us not to be disappointed with none available items on the evening. On the evening of the meal the table was for 7 as two of the team were unwell. Surely even NHS frontline staff can be allowed to be ill ? But not according to The Salwey. The Salwey were told on entry and before the time of the booked table that there was 2 people missing from the party. So to make up for it, a stranger was escorted to our table and sat with us for 20 minutes before Salwey staff realised they had put them with the wrong Christmas party. We even had to share our Christmas cracker with her as that was the only additional festive thing on the table. We should have known that this was going to be a disaster. From then on, starters that were not soup were just about luke warm. A vegan was given a venison shepherd pie, to be then quickly whipped away and tried to deny that they had been notified that the person was Vegan .Turkey dinners were just about warm with undercooked vegetables. Belly pork tasted nothing like it did when on the menu in September and desserts were even smaller than the last visit. We waited a while to pay for our meal as the other party were paying and we could overhear them complaining about items they had been served. Feeling disappointment and underwhelmed but not wanting to cause additional fuss, we just wanted to pay and put this down to a bad experience. When we went to pay we were met by the member of staff stating we had to pay either as an individual or collectively for the 2 missing people in our party as well !! This being the 2 NHS staff too unwell with Covid to attend, but always putting the health and care of others first in everything they do. This also includes not attending social events where the conclusion could have ended as a spoilt Christmas for many including staff at The Salwey by becoming unwell. So Scrooge Salwey - you took our money, up to £40 each, for a disappointing evening that only comes once a year. You served us warm not hot food and wanted to charge us even more. Its been a memorable experience for all the wrong reasons and one we will not be wanting to repeat by visiting The Salway Arms again.

Went to the Salwey with family for our three course Christmas meal as our usual venue was fully booked. They did eventually light the fire which we were sat next to so that was nice as it was a little chilly but very sparse on any decoration for Christmas! Our food wasn't great for the price we paid at all. Two of us ordered the Christmas Turkey dinner. It came out cold piled on the largest serving of red cabbage with roast potatoes so hard and obviously preheated to oblivion we couldn't even cut through them and covered all over in a thick salty gravy. The vegetable side had no consistency, overcooked and bland and strangely balsamic reduction on nearly every plate. The brownie for pud was more a cake, cheesecake was more a jelly and wobbly and the ice cream had no flavour. On a plus, the beers were great and lovely chips. Should have stuck with that! Will not be returning. Shame

Just come back from a family Sunday lunch. It was the first time I’d eaten here & with apologies, I imagine it will be my last. Perhaps it was being seated next to an unlit log burner and feeling a bit cold (it wasn’t freezing inside but it really wasn’t that warm either) & right next to a speaker playing tinny pop & with a framed ‘live laugh love etc’ print to my left that’s made me a bit grumpy. But quite honestly, the whole experience was underwhelming. They were fully booked and couldn’t move us - fair enough. They did have quite a few staff on but service was very slow. The leek and potato soup both my Mum & I had was heavy on leeks and pretty indifferent. My beyond burger wasn’t great - not dreadful but lacking any cheese, onion or pickles which would have made it more interesting - at £15 there should have been more than burger, one leaf of lettuce and a tomato slice. The roast dinners the others had was apparently nice (but gravy v salty) but only came with 3 smallish roast potatoes. My sister asked for some additional which came pretty quickly on a small plate. We were charged £6 for the plate of additional potatoes. When my mother queried this, she was told it was standard. However the waitress came back to us before we left and said we shouldn’t have been charged and gave my Mum £3 coins. If we shouldn’t have been charged, why only refund half the cost? All in, I wasn’t blown away at all. It wasn’t cheap and there are many other local options which are good.

We travelled to Ludlow with another couple (the men were singing in a Concert that night). We had booked two rooms in a large central Ludlow hotel. On arrival, we were told that only one room was available. After some embarrassment, we booked a room in The Salwey Arms. Despite it being a 4+miles drive out of town, we were given the last room available. We had a great welcome, the room was fine, nicely warm, on a bitterly cold night. Breakfast was superb, only one member of staff on duty. It was great to have our breakfast choices served at the table. Often breakfast is a scramble to get to the toaster, pour your orange juice and tea/coffee yourself. This was great, thank you Salwey Arms - a nicely decorated and current establishment. Saved us sleeping in our car !!

We booked for dinner on Friday evening. The roasted fennel with my pork dish was as tough as old boot. My wife found her chicken dish to be very salty. Maybe the apprentice was in charge of the kitchen that evening? Fennel needs about 20 minutes and is usually very tasty. The staff looked as happy as a wet weekend, and studiously avoided eye contact. The only saving grace is that I am coeliac and there were several dishes marked gluten free, so if you have that dietary requirement, there don't seem to be many other options for dining in the area.

First time visit. I think first impressions are extremely important..... We'd booked for breakfast, a birthday treat. We were left very disappointed. On arrival we had to wait too long to be greeted. Eventually someone came. I smiled, said hello and informed the lady we had booked. She wasn't welcoming. She then mistook us for someone else (who was late) and we didnt know what the hell was going on! The lady was curt and I felt embarrassed. The confusion didn't need to happen had she just bothered to ask us our names. Once sorted, she seated us and asked what we wanted to drink. She went off and made the coffees. When she returned with the drinks, she then took our breakfast order. The waitress was the only member of staff front of house and had 2 tables occupied (ours and a family of 4) It was very quiet in there. I'm presuming she was just having a bad day? As we were honestly made to feel that it was all too much trouble. By the time the food arrived, we'd finished our coffees. We weren't offered another, nor were we checked on. The lack of customer service here has overshadowed just how lovely the food was. The food was good, but we would not return.

So disappointed having read the reviews I expected a really good Sunday lunch. We ate fairly early so there shouldn’t be any reason why the Yorkshire puddings should have been so dry, totally overdone. I would have preferred the beef to be pink, it seems a shame to have a great joint of meat and not serve it at its best. We were served a dish of mixed vegetables, mostly cabbage that was extremely crunchy, leeks overcooked and a very few carrots, I don’t think they had been seasoned, we had to add far too much salt at the table. There was a large serving of cauliflower cheese as well, I don’t happen to like cheese but I suppose that’s my misfortune. The beef, in the modern chefy way was piled on top of the roast potatoes, the result was that any crunch there was had been lost. My husband tells me it’s my fault because I can cook a pretty decent roast dinner, I really like a day off occasionally and to enjoy a professionally cooked meal. Such a shame I didn’t.

This olde quaint pub/ restaurant is impeccably run by Sean and Tasha. The hospitality shown by Tasha was both welcoming and warm . Service was prompt, and the food was fabulously delicious, Sean was working in the kitchen, obviously the mystro chef. This couple work hard and will be successful without a doubt.

We headed to Dee Dee's firstly because it is situated within The Range store, where we happened to be browsing, and secondly, because it advertised that it was serving Costa Coffee. We were killing time, waiting for a relative to undergo a hospital appointment, but we waited a LONG time to be served. I actually began to time it on my watch, silly I know, but I was beginning to think that we would have to ditch our idea of a coffee and head back to the hospital. In the end, we waited a little over 18 minutes to be served. Yes, the coffee was Costa, but not served Barista style, more of the kind of machine one finds in a buffet breakfast at a hotel, select your drink, press the appropriate button and the machine dispenses the drink. The staff seemed to be rushed off their feet, with one young lady taking orders and delivering coffees and another, older and more experienced lady putting together the food orders. One felt for them, as they were clearly understaffed and rushed off their feet. Yet, being British, we all stood there and queued! Costa coffee is okay, not nearly as special as it would like to think, but we got what we paid for. The seating area was nicely laid out, sufficient space between tables, but it was all rather canteen, rather than a coffee / cafe /bistro experience. The management should really look at their staffing levels and help out the current members, who are doing their best.

So where do I start, let me start by praising certain members of staff such as the chef and a young waitress who were both nothing but lovely. Our issue (not the first time) is that a male bar tender who looked like Steve cooper (Leicester manager) made a comment our dog had jumped up at the door (literally 2 seconds and then sat down). I’m sorry but, this is dog behaviour and in advertising that you are dog friendly it is accepted that you understand such. We were made to feel apologetic for having a dog, which in a country pub should not be the case. 90% of the uk population have an increase in dopamine when seeing a dog or having interaction with a dog. Sadly we have been made to feel uncomfortable drinking and eating here, We will be attending the PLOUGH pub in Pontesbury from now on. Very sad!!!!!!!!!

Found by accident while out driving around the area. Popped in for a quick lunch about 2.30. Quits a few people in there. Burger and chips were nice. Coffee was good. Toilet was clean also. Would be a good destination if it wasn't pouring with rain as could sit outside.
