The Plough Inn in Shropshire

Rip off , poor service , ordered a pint £5,50 and then tried to serve a pint of porter with 2 inch of head!! If you cant serve up porter , dobt sell it !!

Took my Niece and Dad for Sunday Lunch on a friends recommendation and we weren't disappointed. It's not a carvery and you order from the bar, choice of meats and the veg of the day. The plates were quiet large and they did not scimp on the portion size, food was lovely and the plates were soon cleared. You can have either 1,2 or 3 courses but we decided on a home made pudding each which once again were of a good size and delicious. We found the staff to be very friendly and helpful and there is a good choice of drinks to choose from. I would recommend booking because even though it was terrible weather the place was still very busy but if you do go on the off chance there is a large function room as well as outside seating. Definitely a place i will go to again for great service and food.

The only Dog friendly pub that serves food in Shifnal. Popular with the locals of all ages, traditional pub for watching live sports. Small busy bar but served very quickly, only space for 4 ppl at bar where order food so can't be missed. Unfortunately, I'm not a football fan & went on the wrong night without realising England was playing, bit noisy for me but can't rate pub down for that, that's what the customers go for! Locals seemed welcoming!

Dowdy village pub. Booked to eat but having waited at the bar for ten minutes plus whilst the staff served people who arrived after me, decided to give it a miss and went to the Indian restaurant next door. Far better service and top notch food. Edit: I stand by my previous comments. I WAS standing at the bar for ten minutes being overlooked continuously. Also the table we were allocated was right by the entrance with people passing as they entered and left. We were not offered a table in a better position.

Great food and service. Portions were generous.

Chilli with a kick,fluffy rice, chips perfect & fresh garni. Well cooked tasty burger, perfect fried & egg. Visited on a Sat at 12.30, didn’t wait long. Staff helpful and accommodating. Plum porter was a joy to drink *****

I went here on my one day short visit in Shifnal and I really liked it. It's one of those classic British pubs but at the back with very nice updated garden which I believe any kind of party, functions etc can easily be organised. Prices are reasonable and warm service. I recommend this place.

Great food, didn't go in beer garden. Unfortunately we ended up in a large with 4 tv's playing football as only tables available. Not our cup of tea. Not local for us, just passing through

Huge portions and great service. Really excellent pub Sunday roast…..roast potatoes and cauliflower cheese are particularly good. Highly recommended.

Visited here for Mother’s Day dinner, we haven’t been for a while but we did see that it was under new management so thought we would give it ago It was such a lovely afternoon, the staff were so friendly , they kept checking in with us to see if we needed anything and to make sure everything was ok, nothing was too much effort. The bar staff were amazing sorting our bills , organising the Mother’s Day offer for us and giving us a tab. The food was beautiful everything about it was just lovely ! The meat was so tender , the vegetables cooked to perfection, home made Yorkshire puddings , the gravy was delicious not your standard gravy I think it has the beef juices in it was beautiful! The deserts were very homely and plenty to choose from. I couldn’t believe the prices as they were so reasonable , the food is defiantly amazing value for money! The staff even gave us separate meals for the children to choose from and puddings. Talking about the children it’s so hard to find a family friendly environment but this place is it ! My son is 2.5 years old and he was so comfortable colouring,

Pub was almost empty when we arrived we ordered scampi and chips for the mrs and I picked the cottage pie and chips. The wife said her meal was fine, mine I could not eat the cottage pie not nice and no taste at all, I decided not to eat it. I would not visit to eat again very disappointed.

Nice place, went here after a group walk with my dogs. Plenty on different areas including one at the back which was ideal for the dogs. I don't know about food there.

Love this place .good food and you can watch the football and other sports on the big TV .fab beer garden and outside area .very clean and tidy with fantastic staff

We stayed locally and walked here. What a great find! Very welcoming despite being "outsiders". Great choice of beers at good prices. We ate here Friday night and had the home made pie. Unbelievable! Huge portion of absolutely gorgeous food. We even cancelled our Saturday night booking at our hotel and returned here for more pie. It was a different pie and even more gorgeous than the previous evening. To put it into perspective, two huge portions of home made steak and red wine pie, chunky chips and peas, came to the same cost as one steak in our hotel. No brainer! Eat here, it's the best pub food you'll ever experience at a price you won't believe.

I’ve eaten here many times and had good food. However the last meal was very poor. My chips were undercooked, some were hard my friend had a burger that was burnt at the edges and hard to chew. Won’t be returning when there are better pubs in close proximity. Very disappointing.

Popped into this quaint pub for something to eat and we’re not disappointed. The meals were lovely. Staff were polite and friendly and so were the locals. It’s not an up market pub but worth a visit. You can also take in your dogs.

If You try nothing else on the menu, You need to try the Halloumi fries. I've had many from various restaurants. Those however were, big, well battered, cooked just right. So much so, I ordered twice. The wine was great too. Lovely atmosphere, friendly staff.

We visited the Plough Inn recently , as we often do, for Sunday lunch with family. Service was as usual,prompt, efficient and friendly. Food was of good quality and beautifully cooked. I enjoyed tasty, tender beef, Yorkshire pudding, delicious, crunchy, roast potato, mashed potato, roast parsnips, carrots, really good gravy and horseradish sauce. My vegetarian family members enjoyed a really excellent cauliflower cheese. Prices were extremely reasonable. The Plough offers community events within a historical setting. The hard working staff promote a welcoming ambience while also upholding safe and civilised standards of behaviour. It's hard to see what else could sensibly be required really. Heartily recommended.

Poor quality food my pie was totally burnt one side and beans missed off kids meal Staff never came back to ask if meal was OK so I presume they knew what my response would be

Had a brilliant Sunday lunch at The Plough today, we also really enjoyed their Wednesday pub quiz this week! Nice range of ales and spirits and the staff were really friendly and accommodating. Will definitely be back next Sunday!

I’ve visited the plough many times recently and always enjoy my experience. Last night I took a close friend there for her birthday. The cost of living crisis is important to many currently; the prices at the plough for food and drinks are very reasonable and affordable. The one thing that stuck out for me last night was the friendliness of the staff. I’m glad I got their names. Tom and Adam are two of the most polite and helpful young men I’ve ever met. There are problems with supply in all industries currently and they were extremely professional and helpful when telling us about the limited menu currently. Nothing was too much trouble for them. I highly recommend the venue - the staff are just fabulous!

Stopped in here for lunch on our journey home from Wales. Although there isn't a car park we were able to park right outside on the road. They had four real ales on and a fairly wide range of food choices. Our food arrived promptly, was plentiful and well cooked. Both beer and food were inexpensive and the staff were friendly and helpful. Can't ask for better than that. Will return if the opportunity arises.

The Plough Inn, in Shifnal Shropshire certainty is a hidden gem! The frontage of the pub really doesn't do it any justice whatsoever, it's like a Tardis... as you enter the pub it literally goes on, and on and on. There's a function room, large sheltered outside area and even bigger garden. It appears to be very popular with locals, and given the great food and drinks I can see why! #CarLeasingGuy recommends the Plough Inn Shifnal.

Decent selection of ales, happened to be quite pungent during our visit however this may have come from an external source.

Went to a beer festival here which was held in the function room. There we're 18 beers on and 5 ciders. Had a great afternoon. We went into the bar area later and had a meal which was most enjoyable. There is a large, comfortable garden area with seating. I hope we can get back there at some point.

We came here for te beer festival The pub has a huge undercover area and garden out the back we were not expecting that. Real ale festival was good along with the choice from the main bar... Menus standard pub fare and families are welcome .

Looks small from the outside but is much bigger when inside, also there is an outside marquee with a big screen HDTV and a decent sized garden to drink outside. We partake'd in some of their food had tried their cheesy fries which included sweet potato and normal potatoe fries, bacon & chicken bits and we're pleasantly surprised by the size coming in a large bowl. Rather nice. The variety of the alcohol was pretty good but could do with more variety of spirits especially rum, no ginger beer though was a bit of a downer for me as I like that with my rum.

Dropped in with family today after a 2+ year gap since last trying the food, and I'm pleased to say we weren't disappointed - steak and ale pie was top quality and a generous portion, gammon steak was equally generous and the panini 'platter' was the best looking sandwich based meal I've seen in a long time. Overall good range of menu options for our group, really didn't notice the vegetarian options so can't comment on them. Very good range of beers, some good ciders and friendly helpful staff. Dog-friendly throughout with a large covered outdoor area and beer garden - excellent pub overall, something for everyone.

Popped in for lunch. Warm welcome, simple and pleasant menu. Then we headed to the beer garden … amazed by the place, nicely arranged and quiet. Good food and good service from all the staff.

We just stopped off spontaneously as we were passing through the area and were hungry. We were greeted by a really nice chap behind the bar who took our order and brought the food over. We sat by a fireplace and the whole pub just seemed really cosy. The meals were less than £10 each and the portions were huge. Really good value for money, definitely didn’t leave hungry! We plan to return on another occasion now so I’m really pleased we were passing.

Love this pub. Always pop in whenever I am visiting family in the area and the staff are great. Heading there tonight and very much looking forward to it.

Pleasant enough but could do with a refurb. However, the real ales were of good standard.

The wait time wS tooo long for the food, then not very hot and the portions for the same meals dispotionate and the manageress laughed, get a grip, take account of your business, listen to your customers.....

Thought this was a little pub but go in and it is HUGE .. extensive garden with tables and style to suit all tastes. Good clean lager *the pipes must sparkle* Food time had just finished but the chef cooked for us anyways, without asking. I has a tasty omelette and my husband gammon. Fresh clean and ample portion. Staff checked on us more than once. Good honest pub food, a rare find these days

Had a lovely couple of meals, they were hot and very tasty, the pub was very deceiving from the front.

Just popped in as not local and was pleasantly surprised. They were dog friendly, ie: on a lead, perfect for us. Very warm and friendly welcome. Very assertive. Great big beer garden, looks very deceptive from the front. The space outside was akin to that of a Tardis. Lovely lawn, ample seating with tables. The food was served very quick. Piping hot, and immensely delicious. The staff couldn't do enough for you. Well recommended.

After receiving recommendations off a local facebook page I took two friends to this establishment on Wednesday evening. I was embarrassed at the quality of the food. My one friend had fish and chips and the fish was so brown it looked as if it had been in and out of the fryer as a career. I had the lasagne and garlic bread, The lasagne was dry and the garlic bread tasted of dirty oven. The side dish of chips was heavily populated with little black burnt bits. My other fired had the nachos which were OK. I later commented on the facebook page that had recommended the establishment that we had not had a good experience. Since then I have received quite aggressive messages from the manager and owner regarding my post. We did not want to make a fuss at the time. and from the messages I have subsequently received and comments form others on here, on reflection that was a good call. I would not recommend this establishment.

Staff are very friendly and this means a lot when you go into a place for the first time

Poor service, waited an hour for table service to be told that the kitchen was close - most staff member seem very unhappy and unapproachable while serving. When we eventually got served after explaining we had waited so long they did take our food order, when the food arrived it was clearly thrown together with little thought. We were missing a cheesy chips from the menu which we were charged for so shortly left due to the lack of customer service.

Lovely place, pleasant staff. Guinness is amazing but unfortunately the beer is a bit pricey and the food isn't much to write home about.

Waited 30 minutes to even be served. From then on the orders were wrong, delayed and to be honest just outraging. It should not take upwards of 20 minutes get a pint let a lone order multiple and getting half the order and continuing to...

As per many other comments..... the landlord is 'Laughably Rude'!! - This guy is really in the wrong job. They try to keep him away from customers but he sits in the corner smoking, moaning and generally emitting bad manners, bad customer service and tbh...
