The Charles Darwin is a perfect spot for pre game drinks. We had a great time in the pub before and after the game between our team Charlton and Shrewsbury. The staff were fantastic and couldn't have been more helpful. I would recommend this pub for any away fan coming to Shrewsbury.

Nice enough place, only been once. But the first drink I was served by the blonde lady was a malibu and coke and I only got 25ml of malibu. I know this cos I watched. I don't drink much so I didn't know the rules, if they have changed, so I ordered another from the other lady who seemed to be in charge. I got 50ml, as I used to get before for same price. Please inform this blonde lady that she is skimming the customer and that's not nice. Because of this I won't be back.

Rude and unfriendly. Pub wasn’t even open yet but door staff wouldn’t let me pop into co-op for less than a minute so made me walk back to the car in the pouring rain holding a baby (it’s actually the same car park but apparently I was in “their side” which was empty and massive whilst the co-op’s tiny section was full -interestingly the co-op let anyone park there so the whole territory thing is very one sided!) Afterwards I witnessed them trying this with someone else who quite rightly ignored them completely, which I should have done! Definitely a place to avoid, there are much nicer friendlier pubs in the area to try such as the Peacock and White Horse.

I read a review of the food from here in a free magazine and have been determined to try it out ever since, as someone who spends large swathes of time in hospital, some home cooked food is something that I have been craving, the food in Rsh is surprisingly good but I really wanted a traditional Sunday roast, I messaged the chef/owner and received a very helpful response giving me the choice of 4 meats and various timings, I asked for the roast pork to be delivered at 2pm to the hospital, at exactly 2pm a very polite and curtious driver delivered my lunch in a thermal box wrapped in foil and film so the contents were piping hot, I duly tucked into my roast pork (succulent), crackling, savoy cabbage, carrots, peas, stuffing, mash, roast potatoes, Yorkshire pud and lovely thick gravy and thoroughly enjoyed every mouthful. Definitely recommend and will be using the service again, oh and no washing up is a bonus 😉

My wife and her sister decided to arrange a surprise birthday party for there mum's 80th birthday and chose the Charles Darwin which is local to both there mum and most of there mum's friends.. What an excellent choice.. The room ( lounge) was clean, tidy and well layed out for the 40 guests and family. The buffet was superb. Various sandwiches, sausage rolls, mini pasties and a varied selection of other goodies.. There were individual cake stands on the tables with tea and coffee constantly available.. In all the "birthday girl"thoroughly enjoyed herself as did all the guests.. Especially when she thought that she was only going there to have a family meal.. Thank you and well done to Cathy and Lee for laying on a brilliant day at the Darwin..

Where to start?! At super short notice Cathy & Lee took on my brothers wedding on 28.10.2017. From start to finish nothing was too much for Cathy. From dressing the room, arranging the food (adding extra options for the fussy eaters on the day!) Sorting out beautiful flowers, a disco dome and to the red carpet that my brother & his wife really wanted. The waitresses were absolutely spot on, welcome drinks looked perfect, and the atmosphere was exactly as they wanted. The day after the wedding, we booked Sunday lunches to bring us back to life. Again, short notice, we booked on Sunday morning and within 10 minutes of ordering we had our meals served and headaches abolished. Huge portions & the chocolate pudding with custard is a must! Highly recommended by all that attended & a must for a brilliant Sunday lunch! Thank you Cathy!!

It is our local and has been for over 20 years and we are both glad that things are at last picking up, this place really is worth trying and supporting. I came here for a funeral reception and it is located near the crematorium but not being local I thought I was following the car in front of me to their house as it is on a 60's maybe housing estate. I was pleased to see the pub sign and left my car in the roomy carpark.I had driven 2 and a quarter hours in dense fog and it was a bitterly cold day as I caught the tale end of the mourners filing inside. I was greeted by very friendly welcoming staff. The pub is dated, smelled and looked clean and is comfortably furnished. They had 3 draught beers on of which I chose one which was excellent and they provided an endless supply of help yourself piping hot teas and coffees. They served a tasty buffet of fresh assorted sandwiches, on different breads and wraps, prawn filou rolls with spicy dips, sausage rolls, pizzas, breaded chicken bites, and hot home made chips and a salad.Very traditional, very simple but very good.

Went for a family birthday lunch big mistake! Should have realised as dining room was deserted at 1 PM on a Sunday but we foolishly ordered lunch, there was 7 of us and we all found the food inedible, tough meat, rock hard Yorkshire pudding a slab of stuffing, overcooked vegetables which were obviously frozen, soggy potatoes all served lukewarm to stone cold needless to say hardly anything was eaten. The family member who had booked the table was very upset as this was a special occasion, I have never been served such a terrible meal and can only advise anyone to avoid eating here at all costs.

No one came to us with menus when we asked for one they said its beef or pork dinner on sunday thats it. All the vegetables are frozen the broccoli, well i think it was broccoli was sloppy and had no head on it, the cauliflower cheese was cold and lumpy, the roast potatoes were frozen potatoes, the stuffing was dry and like cardboard along with the yorkshire pudding, the meat was fatty and chewy and there was limited gravy altho it was probably for the best as it was thin and watery. White wine spritzers are served in pepsi glasses, This is the first and last time i will be visiting this pub as this is the worst sunday lunch i have ever had.

We have recently had a Sunday lunch at the Charles Darwin pub. I have to say it is probably one of the nicest lunches we have had in long time, there is a choice of beef, pork and gammon, or a slice of each, which fills the plate almost, and it is proper meat and lovely tasting, the yorkshire puddings are to die for, and real gravy, plenty of veg, and all this for the very reasonable price of £5.25, couldn't cook at home for that.............and no washing up!! Well done to Rob and Stacey.

We were recently staying in a holiday cottage within walking distance of the Charles Darwin. It was not mentioned in the brochures in the cottage but we decided to get it a try anyway. As soon as you walked in the doors to the restaurant side you felt welcomed. The room is large and roomy with various quotes from Mr. Darwin himself, it was early in the lunch hour so on our first visit there were only 3 tables eating. The service was excellent, staff very friendly and accommodating, the atmosphere was homely and the food selection excellent. We thoroughly enjoyed everything about this pub, we felt like family and during the course of our months holiday, we visited this pub more than any other that was recommended in the brochures at the cottage. Each time we were met with smiles and a huge welcome and each time we all tried different food and each dish was just as enjoyable. The parking was excellent as well so no dodging cars as you tried to get out to the main road. An excellent family pub which we would all highly recommend.....when we return again we will be back to the Charles Darwin.

Out on my motorcycle and needed food, Village Coffee is a hidden gem. There's on and off street parking, all subject to how busy it is, and how many of you there are. Either way, they can accommodate. I ordered a bacon and sausage sandwich with an apple tango. It came to just over £7, which isn't bad at all given the quality, and it went down a treat. Any motorcyclists looking for a bite to eat near J3 / M54, Cosford / Albrighton, then this cafe is a great shout! They have a large amount of 2 wheeled visitors, some with pedals and others with engines. Either way, it's not bad at all 😉👍 I recommend anyone looking for a sandwich or bite to eat, definitely give this place a try.
