The Loopy Shrew Restaurant & Bar in Shropshire

I’ve had really good meals here before, which makes this recent visit all the more disappointing. I ordered the roast beef , the beef was very tough and the roast potatoes were dry like they’d been sitting under heat lamp, not great especially at £21.95. Staff were polite and offered me a replacement, so I tried the pork , but unfortunately the fat was soggy not crispy, and Gemma forgot my Yorkshire pudding , which was the one thing I was looking forward to, but didn’t want to complain a second time. The overall experience just left us feeling we wouldn’t go back , a real shame as we have always had excellent meals before. They did offer 20% of our meal, but we still paid in full , didn’t want them to think we were moaners , and complaining for the sake of it. Hope this review helps as don’t want others to be disappointed.

Absolutely awful we went for Mother’s Day service was slow we told them we had nut allergy and they brought nuts to the table. When I complained they said thankyou for your feedback I will never go again this could have proved fatal if my friend had eaten them awful place

I stayed in the Belmont room,the room its self was very comfortable… But there is a unit on wall outside that vibrates and Drones all night long,I wondered why they had a jar of ear plugs in room after a night of no sleep I now know why🙈 on a better note staff were very nice

The meal was quite poor, the pork and turkey roasts were very bland and too salty, the roast potatoes felt old like they had been re-heated from earlier in the day and there was only 2 bowls of veg for 10 people. There just wasn't enough food and it was bland. Its really disappointing as meals are not cheap these days so you are expecting a certain quality. The only good point was the kids said that their burgers were great and were the only ones that enjoyed their meal. Will not be going back.

Fist time visiting will return again

Thank you to the Loopy Shrew who accommodated eight adults and three children for breakfast. This was a pre planned visit and the loopy Shrew have been excellent in communicating with us. Food excellent and staff superb.

Rooms are definitely very dated but beds are comfortable location is spot on but be prepared for outside noise until late

Unfortunately left before receiving drinks after being told we were unable to order a sharing board and a bottle. Originally we were under the impression we ordered the wrong wine, but eventually it was understood that not only weren't they doing the offer, but they weren't doing the boards at all. We were told the menus were out of date despite the boards also being on the chalkboard by the bar. In the end we decided to leave, it was chaotic and loud and we couldn't hear the waitress, she couldn't hear us. I'm not sure how much of it was miscommunication.

Great Friday night with mixed age groups all having fun. I'm 59...

Food and staff were brilliant. Great location close to town and train station. Couldn't rate the rooms as we didn't stay.

I had an afternoon tea here yesterday, very little to eat in the GF option.I paid £30 & was very disappointed with what I received. I have emailed to complain, awaiting a reply.

We had a surprise 50th birthday afternoon tea at the Loopy Shrew, they went all out, we had a massive 5 0 balloon card and an amazing afternoon tea, the staff were so nice, thank you Adam and Florida for excellent service and hospitality you both made my wife's 50th a memorable event.

1st time there and liked it. Food was awsome. Recomend the scotch egg starter.. Parked relatively easy. Pay for parking is close. Baker Street is one. We parked in street opposite. Location wise it's in the town so alow time to get there if driving.. Place itself was clean, staff very friendly and helpful with the meals etc.. Would we go again, If we're in Shrewsbury yes..

And live music on some nights the singer was great

Visited with friends. Really enjoyed our visit, the staff were great and the food was amazing. Dog friendly which was perfect for us.

Decent stay here. Rooms cosy and well appointed, breakfast was good. Parking over the road. Check-in was....well... fabulous darling.

Absolutely disgusting service. Poor communication, incorrect menu received for our party and charged for 2 extra meals. Interrupted twice during our meal and threatened at the end that they would retain my £50 deposit. I spent £500 for our party and honestly received the most disgusting attitude from one lady. I would not recommend.

We had the seafood platter to share with a bottle of house wine - very good value. The platter had a nice selection and was generous with bread and tartare sauce. Also had a large dog friendly area of the restaurant, so that’s great for us.

Looking for a late night drink only to be told last orders at 10.30 🤦‍♂️ Ordered 6 drinks £72 wtf , questioned the bill only to be told overcharged £16 Good venue but staff far from helpful , won’t be coming back 😔

Gave 2 out of 5 food poisoning on Xmas eve. Under cooked chicken. One got sent back, and two that stayed then got it. One had to go to bathroom to be sick and met another customer in there who was also vomiting from having the buttermilk chicken starter.

Loopy Shrew kindly hosted our table of 9 christmas party, which was a great success. Considering it was a Friday evening 2 weeks before Christmas, the staff were quick and efficient with all of their service. There was a table of 40 next to us, and the staff calmly managed that, whilst nobody else's service suffered at all! The food was delicious, and all of our party agreed in regards to their respective dishes. Additionally, the cosy and comfy decor coupled with the beautful christmas decs made for wonderful atmosphere. Bonus touch was the crackers on the table. The bar itself being separate and at the front of the building allowed for some more work friends to meet us after our meal, which we all enjoyed, especially with the festive music playing. Overall, absolute winner for a Christmas party - we will absolutely be booking again next year.

This place is shocking. Part of a works party and refused entry due to the number of people in the establishment. If that's the case, refuse entry for the entire group, so that we have the opportunity to go elsewhere. Total clowns 🤡

I don’t think I’ve ever been spoken to so rudely as I was in the loopy shrew tonight. The front of house manager should not be in her position. She seriously needs to get some customer service skills. I sat in what is often a food area but the tables were not laid, so clearly had no bookings. We’ve been allowed to sit in there before for drinks because if nobody’s eating and there aren’t any bookings then what’s the harm? She spoke to me very rudely demanding if I had a booking and told me I couldn’t sit there for drinks, only for food, whilst she was removing the knives and forks off the 1 table of 3 that was laid, so clearly there were no bookings that night. The rest of the bar was heaving with no free tables. If my husband hadn’t already bought the drinks we would not have stayed. A free table became available and my friend went for it, the manager even had a go at her for that. Honestly don’t work in a customer service role if you don’t like people. We only stayed for one drink and took our business elsewhere. We won’t be back.

We went there tonight for our company Christmas meal. It was rammed, but no problem as it was leading up to Christmas. Good atmosphere. We were forced to choose the 3 course menu as it was a Saturday night, despite some of the group not being able to eat 3 courses. My terrine starter was very nice, the pork main was a good sized, thick pork chop which was advertised including crackling but this has gone soggy in the gravy. Roasties We're 3 and tiny. The big disappointment was the cheese board (which had a £3 price uplift). It was pathetic. 2 tiny portions of cheese with a few add ons (half of the crackers being stale). Staff were lovely. If you don't want to pay the discretionary service charge which is added automatically then make sure you ask for it to be taken off and a new bill produced. Please also be aware of the t&c's regarding your booking, it reads like a military exercise. TBH, overall I can't recommend.

Had one of the best steak meals here! Everything was cooked to perfection and really delicious, would definitely eat here again. Only thing to be aware of is they do steak for two on a Friday + a bottle of wine. It says £50 on the menu, it’s actually £60 and there’s a supplement depending on what wine you choose. Still not bad at all really for what you get but the pricing just isn’t that clear.

We enjoyed a fantastic Sunday lunch as a family on the 24th November. The service from Gemma was very friendly and professional from the outset and little touches like providing crayons for our children and bringing their food with our starters was much appreciated. The food itself was flawless, the best Sunday lunch I’ve had in Shrewsbury. We will definitely be back, thank you.

They have a separate and really big veggie and vegan menu (but also plenty for fish and meat lovers) from modern interpreted classics to really fancy food ideas. My veggie ravioli were great. The Cocktails sound delicious as well. Okish prices and great service. Food and drink came fast although it was very full

Popped in for early evening meal,, lovely welcome from friendly staff, found a table in quiet part of pub, good choice of menu,, we both picked the days special, 2 rumps & bottle of wine Excellent value & lovely steaks,, cannot fault the Shrew,, Thankx to all the staff,,

Had a lovely Sunday roast with family. So often the vegetarian option feels like an afterthought, but the nut roast here was delicious. Loads of veg too. The place looked the part and wasn't too expensive.

Food nice quality but overpriced compared to other good restaurants in the area. Good service BUT didn't like the service charge being added on without my knowledge. I called to enquire about the charge & was informed it is stated on the menu! Where? Let your customers choose what they pay as a tip.

Very nice venue for lunch. Our third visit to the Loopy Shrew. As always the food, service and atmosphere were excellent. Highly recommended if you’re out and about in Shrewsbury.

Albrecht has gone off piste after ticking off his desired pubs. A busy Friday evening in this large L shaped bar. Definitely caters for a younger crowd than me but Albrecht is happy. Two out of three real ales on handpump. Had a lovely pint of Stonehouse Station bitter. Even an old twit like me enjoyed the busy " weekend starts here" vibe. Apparently a hotel..who knew!!

Asked for Hot choc to be hot as I like my drinks very hot ,Luke warm very weak hardly surprising as all choc bottom of cup @

A beautiful and comfortable restaurant set in the heart of Shrewsbury with a good selection of drinks. Unfortunately the vegetarian options were poor - unimaginative and very underseasoned - both the veggie burger and the pasta. The fries were excellent though. The menu was overpriced, however, and poor value for money, and although the service was decent, it was not good enough to warrant the additional service charge which felt too uncomfortable to remove. All in all, a good place for drinks, but as a vegetarian, there are many better alternatives for food in Shrewsbury which offer much better value for money.

Dropped in late on a Saturday and would recommend. They had a decent disco which ended at 12, they then closed at 1. Excellent selection of drinks. They are probably on the pricier side than other places in Shrewsbury but you do receive a more sophisticated experience, Excellent staff and facilities.

Liked the overall place but it was spoilt when I realised the prices on menu was before VAT and they also added service charge so the final bill considerably more than I thought. Spoilt the whole experience!

Poor roast dinner today. Two weeks ago it was lovely. Three small rock hard roast potatoes that were inedible, obviously been kicking around all afternoon. Service was impatient like we were an annoyance. Disappointing. Customers pay the bills?

Came here today, the main was amazing, the Sunday roast sides were overly salty. The wait for food was over an hour. I will see if it improves next time.

It was a hotel on top of a very lively pub. Nice room and bathroom. Great service. It’s just that it can get noisy at night. Love the breakfast. I had dinner at night there as well and it was good.

The Loopy Shrew is a modern stylish bar with a wide range of beers, lager and cider, including cask conditioned real ales. The cask beers were in excellent condition when i visited. I haven't tried the food but the menu looked very interesting. The staff are very friendly and there is an outside seating area at the front.

Excellent breakfast and service. Staff very friendly. Digs are welcome which is a bonus with water and biscuit for our 4 legged friend. Would definitely recommend visiting.

My wife and I came here for lunch while visiting Shrewsbury. We chose one of the sharing board for our lunch and was not disappointed every bite was so tasty. Service was excellent and sitting in the hidden garden just made it that extra special.

Located in the heart of Shrewsbury, this is a great place to dine, lunch, have breakfast, have a drink, and rest your head for the night. Lovely staff, a very comfortable bed and a delicious breakfast is what I'll remember best of this fine establishment.

Addition of disco on weekend nights is very welcome. Nice central location and range of drinks. Car parks are a stone throw away.

Great bar and food. But please stop playing house music, it really doesn't suit your venue. Trying to enjoy food and drinks, but music is really loud in the background. It would be a more enjoyable experience with music that suited the atmosphere at bit more.

We enjoy visiting the loopy, nice drinks, clean and good spot for people watching, which can be quite interesting on a Saturday night.

I can imagine that when the refurbishment was last done(I think some time ago) it would have been a reasonable place, but now both staff and property are showing there age! Tables sticky glasses dirty, Bedrooms pokey! Basically awfull!

Really disappointed! We love eating out and love exploring top rated places & as we were in Shrewsbury on business we chose the loopy shrew!!! From reading the menu & choosing the vegi sharing board.. because of the detail explained in the description sounded lovely!! It was cheap and lacking a lot! We could have done better getting our own stuff from the supermarket! The bread was v stale and chewy and the one dip actually tasted like vomit!! It didn’t even have a complementary bit of salad 🥗 😫🫣 And to top it off the manager was rude! The girls cleaning the tables were lovely and polite. Will not be returning.

Wheelchair accessible gastropub in the heart of Shrewsbury. Great food, fab cocktails and the bar and restaurant can be accessed via a mobile ramp. Accessible toilet is suitable for those who can turn around as they transfer from wheelchair to toilet. Friendly staff and menus and information available on their website.

Stopped for food before heading home. Menu very impressive. Couldn't decide! Opted finally for the fish&chips. My sister for the chicken schnitzel and my friend got the burger. All very happy. Food hot, presented well. Was really tasty. Would highly recommend and would visit again

We have just returned from a visit to Shrewsbury. We stayed over night at The Loopy Shrew / Sleepy shrew. I've rated the room 4/5 based on, room for improvement. Bathroom was a bit tired but fine. As mentioned in other reviews it can be a little noisy before 12 at night. For us we expected it being in the middle of a city with thriving nightlife. We experienced good service throughout. Breakfast was a solid 10/10. One of the best full English I've had. We returned for Sunday dinner based on this and again, our meal was fantastic. All of the ingredients ooozed quality and were seasoned perfectly. I'd say not the cheapest place around but, we felt it was worth it.

A lively pub serving good beer and lager. Also have a good menu to choose from.
