Loopy Shrew kindly hosted our table of 9 christmas party, which was a great success. Considering it was a Friday evening 2 weeks before Christmas, the staff were quick and efficient with all of their service. There was a table of 40 next to us, and the staff calmly managed that, whilst nobody else's service suffered at all! The food was delicious, and all of our party agreed in regards to their respective dishes. Additionally, the cosy and comfy decor coupled with the beautful christmas decs made for wonderful atmosphere. Bonus touch was the crackers on the table. The bar itself being separate and at the front of the building allowed for some more work friends to meet us after our meal, which we all enjoyed, especially with the festive music playing. Overall, absolute winner for a Christmas party - we will absolutely be booking again next year.

This place is shocking. Part of a works party and refused entry due to the number of people in the establishment. If that's the case, refuse entry for the entire group, so that we have the opportunity to go elsewhere. Total clowns 🤡

I don’t think I’ve ever been spoken to so rudely as I was in the loopy shrew tonight. The front of house manager should not be in her position. She seriously needs to get some customer service skills. I sat in what is often a food area but the tables were not laid, so clearly had no bookings. We’ve been allowed to sit in there before for drinks because if nobody’s eating and there aren’t any bookings then what’s the harm? She spoke to me very rudely demanding if I had a booking and told me I couldn’t sit there for drinks, only for food, whilst she was removing the knives and forks off the 1 table of 3 that was laid, so clearly there were no bookings that night. The rest of the bar was heaving with no free tables. If my husband hadn’t already bought the drinks we would not have stayed. A free table became available and my friend went for it, the manager even had a go at her for that. Honestly don’t work in a customer service role if you don’t like people. We only stayed for one drink and took our business elsewhere. We won’t be back.

We went there tonight for our company Christmas meal. It was rammed, but no problem as it was leading up to Christmas. Good atmosphere. We were forced to choose the 3 course menu as it was a Saturday night, despite some of the group not being able to eat 3 courses. My terrine starter was very nice, the pork main was a good sized, thick pork chop which was advertised including crackling but this has gone soggy in the gravy. Roasties We're 3 and tiny. The big disappointment was the cheese board (which had a £3 price uplift). It was pathetic. 2 tiny portions of cheese with a few add ons (half of the crackers being stale). Staff were lovely. If you don't want to pay the discretionary service charge which is added automatically then make sure you ask for it to be taken off and a new bill produced. Please also be aware of the t&c's regarding your booking, it reads like a military exercise. TBH, overall I can't recommend.

Had one of the best steak meals here! Everything was cooked to perfection and really delicious, would definitely eat here again. Only thing to be aware of is they do steak for two on a Friday + a bottle of wine. It says £50 on the menu, it’s actually £60 and there’s a supplement depending on what wine you choose. Still not bad at all really for what you get but the pricing just isn’t that clear.

We enjoyed a fantastic Sunday lunch as a family on the 24th November. The service from Gemma was very friendly and professional from the outset and little touches like providing crayons for our children and bringing their food with our starters was much appreciated. A beautiful and comfortable restaurant set in the heart of Shrewsbury with a good selection of drinks. Unfortunately the vegetarian options were poor - unimaginative and very underseasoned - both the veggie burger and the pasta. The fries were excellent though. The menu was overpriced, however, and poor value for money, and although the service was decent, it was not good enough to warrant the additional service charge which felt too uncomfortable to remove. All in all, a good place for drinks, but as a vegetarian, there are many better alternatives for food in Shrewsbury which offer much better value for money.

Really disappointed! We love eating out and love exploring top rated places & as we were in Shrewsbury on business we chose the loopy shrew!!! From reading the menu & choosing the vegi sharing board.. because of the detail explained in the description sounded lovely!! It was cheap and lacking a lot! We could have done better getting our own stuff from the supermarket! The bread was v stale and chewy and the one dip actually tasted like vomit!! It didn’t even have a complementary bit of salad 🥗 😫🫣 And to top it off the manager was rude! The girls cleaning the tables were lovely and polite. Will not be returning.

We have just returned from a visit to Shrewsbury. We stayed over night at The Loopy Shrew / Sleepy shrew. I've rated the room 4/5 based on, room for improvement. Bathroom was a bit tired but fine. As mentioned in other reviews it can be a little noisy before 12 at night. For us we expected it being in the middle of a city with thriving nightlife. We experienced good service throughout. Breakfast was a solid 10/10. One of the best full English I've had. We returned for Sunday dinner based on this and again, our meal was fantastic. All of the ingredients ooozed quality and were seasoned perfectly. I'd say not the cheapest place around but, we felt it was worth it.

Not a cheap place to stay (£170 per night with advance non refundable booking), but the photos gave a great impression and the website looked very professional. We arrived at 4pm to be greeted by a packed bar, pools of vomit on the pavement outside and an obstacle course to get our cases through to the narrow staircase up to the rooms (we had to ask a few drinkers to move their chairs so we could get through). The noise was incredibly loud upstairs. The room was large, but very tired and with an uneven floor meaning the bed sloped to one side (2 singles zipped together). The bathroom was mouldy, with paint peeling and not good at all - the extractor didn't work. The shower was an over bath fitting with scalding water dripping from the hot tap on to your feet. After our evening out with the family (a birthday party), we arrived back, after navigating many more pavement pools of vomit to even louder heavy beat music that continued until 12.30am - we should have guessed there was an issue as they provide packs of earplugs! 6.30am the huge kitchen extractor outside the bedroom window starts up, making a Sunday relaxing start impossible - so an early shower with scalded feet! Not great, and honestly one of the least restful places we've ever stayed, at quite a premium price for the privilege. Great for central Shrewsbury, but next time it'll be Premier Inn or similar. Communications from the establishment were dire - we never received a receipt for our booking or confirmation, despite 3 separate emails asking for them, however we did receive automatic replies saying that we were important and someone would get back to us within 24 hours. Something definitely needs to change. I'll finish on a high note though - the breakfast was absolutely excellent and one of the best hotel full breakfasts we've had.

We went for breakfast and were surprised to be kept waiting for a table by the man at the front desk who spent a good couple of minutes at his computer before acknowledging us, then another minute before taking us to be seated. There was a long wait before our drinks arrived, then a longer wait for the food although there weren’t many customers. This gave us time to notice someone at the next table having to send their food back because it wasn’t what they’d ordered. My husband ordered eggs Royale - the first words describing this on the menu were ‘smoked salmon’ followed by the other ingredients - but his meal contained no smoked salmon. It seems weird to omit the main (and most expensive) ingredient of a dish. I’d long finished my meal by the time he finally received his replacement meal (the food he’d actually ordered). Given the unfriendly welcome, two adjacent tables having to send food back within half an hour and that it wasn’t even busy, we won’t be going back.

We have been to The Loopy Shrew several times when we have stayed in Shrewsbury but this time we were very disappointed. First, they didn't seem to have a table for us, despite me booking several weeks ago and after some running around they put us by the toilets!! My friend and I both had steak which was lovely but both pieces had a very big piece of fat on, making the steak look bigger than it was. I also order sautéed vegetables, which they hadn't let the kitchen know and they didn't arrive until half way through our meal. Finally, I had chocolate fondant for dessert which was lovely, however my friend had the Peach Melba, what a joke for £9, 2 tinned peaches, half a meringue, broken up and a bit of chantilly cream squirted randomly on the plate. Not the best experience 😕

As a restaurant or event venue it was great and the service was first rate. Breakfasts were fresh and tasty, and evening food was really good and filling. However, we booked it as a boutique hotel, and whilst the rooms were good, there is one major obvious issue: the rooms are above a pub that has loud music and a DJ on Fridays. We were in our room from 11pm on Friday and were able to sing along! If you're not bothered by sleeping in a club or don't go to sleep until after 12, then this is an excellent, well positioned place to stay. (As an aside, we parked our car using JustPark, and on someone's drive who rented it out. Very easy and booked in advance.)

Use to do a lovely Bakes Camembert with sourdough (then changed to any bread) simple but very nice & wasn’t bad on price. Got ripped off Saturday & platter changed, some awful dish with several limes squeezed in (think to resemble a yoghurt or potato salad), it made both of us feel ill & went home, up all last night too, more worrying with one post-op first visit out since & having parted the extreme cost of this horrid dish, worst texture of the cheese ever too! Was reported to waitress, but wasn’t sure it was reported back, as she told us the newly added side was mint yoghurt! Think ingredients been messed with, but very little bread or crackers for a staring platter & on hearing price i wouldn’t return for quality with that again either!

Food nice, little pricey for what we had. But I didn't notice until after that a 10% service charge was added, without notice or consent. Had I noticed this before my wife had paid, then a long conversation would have happened, along with a refusal to pay. This isn't the USA, we pay staff a salary and a tip is a reward for above average service. But if you are cheeky enough to extort us, you should be displaying it and allowing people to go elsewhere, where they won't have a sour taste in their mouth after eating your food. My other disappointment was a board outside listing events. Such as Mothers Day. St Patrick's Day, Easter, and Father's Day. But the absence of St George's Day. Shrewsbury appears to be a lefty pool of indoctrination.

We could not fault the Loopy Shrew. Great menu, great staff, lovely bedroom. This is one of the best all round hotel/dining experiences we have had for a long time. The breakfast menu is truly excellent.

Another pub, which is what it is, serving mediocre food, but charging obscene prices. Upto £34 for a steak, upto £13 for a starter. Must think they're in London, not little old Shrewsbury

I have to be honest with this review in regards to the dinner we had last night. Absolutely disappointed in what was, served up as paying £30 for a steak which looked like something that come off the children's menu. Two steaks were ordered at I'd say premium price which wasn't delivered at all, one as mentioned, looked like a chids portion & the other, well it was a disappointment. Slithers of cheese with garnish which didn't complement the steak, surely the chef that turned these out knew they'd get at least one sent back. Yes an apology was given but, I'd definitely say NOT premium costs for what was received. Not a great experience from the Loppy Shrews.

Decent range of drinks including real ale. Handy for the railway station especially when you've missed your connection and gave an hour to kill!
