Summer behind the bar is EXCELLENT at her job, she’s very good at communicating and friendly. We enjoyed the food, much more flavour wise than we were expecting from a pub! Good selection of wines and Hozier playing, what more could you want. Will be back x

Foods unreal not my usual thing but loved it none the less. Service was great and overall good atmosphere, came here when it was on the busier side but was sat and seen to straight away. Will definitely be back

Went for a double date on valentines weekend. The two girls (summer and another girl sorry didn’t get her name to give her a shout out) upstairs were absolutely amazing , despite it being so busy our drinks and food order were coming quite quickly, food was delicious: would absolutely go back.

This was a disappointing experience. We chose this restaurant because of the reviews and it allowed us to take the dog. Meal was average - burger was better than the lamb flatbread which was one huge flatbread with everything piled on the top of it. I mistakenly thought the flatbread would be small and convenient to eat. Items listed on menu missing off the salad, kofkas not great, flatbread soggy from salad and chips. Service not great (sat with finished plates for ages then not asked if we wanted anything else). Told there was no alcohol free Guinness or hot drinks even though they were on the menu. Wouldn't rush back.

Dire Sunday lunch experience today! For context- I live a five minute walk along the Quay so was hoping to really enjoy our meal today and make future visits. Service extremely haphazard and slow on arrival was an early indicator that things aren't quite right here. I ordered a mixed meats (beef, pork & chicken), with extras of cauliflower cheese (£5) and a Yorkshire pudding (£1). With a pint of Inches cider I paid £28.60 in total. My friend's plate arrived first, with a very small piece of chicken sitting on top of 1 slice of beef and a grey looking slice of pork. Really mean sized portions always gets my back up. We waited for the waitress to return with mine to request more chicken as it was absolutely pathetic... there was a long wait and she eventually returned with my plate- with an even smaller scrap of chicken on it! Barely even a mouthful, the photo shows the scraps they tried to palm off on us. I raised this immediately to be told condescendingly 'well you wouldn't expect a whole breast of chicken on a mixed meats'... Wrong answer! (We never once mentioned the words 'whole breast' of chicken, just more than a tiny scrap!) I made it very clear this was totally unacceptable and after attempting to argue with me and defend the portion size, the waitress reluctantly sniffed that she'd go and speak to the chef. She returned with a tiny bowl of 2 more scraps of chicken for us 'chef said there's 1 each!' Photo again for reference. Then there was missing food, the extra yorkies we'd paid for, stuffing, crackling, I could go on... By this point we were actually amused/bemused, I'm not sure which! The £5 bowl of cauliflower cheese, whilst looking a nice colour on top had barely any cheese sauce underneath, so this was (again reluctantly) replaced by the anaemic looking side dish you see in the photo. Diabolical. The 'roast' potatoes were soggy, deep fried and reminded me of the roasties you used to get on your school dinners. Really poor. To try and add a glimmer of positivity- one of the waitresses was friendly, and the Yorkshire puddings were really good- absolutely delicious, once we'd recieved them. As was the sausagemeat stuffing and pork crackling. The gravy was very good. I'd made reservations for mother's day as had friends of ours but we will now be cancelling and would not return any time soon as overall the food and hospitality requires vast improvement. As we left my friend said a cheery goodbye to a member of staff and was rudely ignored, which summed up the whole experience really 👎 Don't waste your hard earned cash in here

Great place busy but friendly still a good pub

Had a beautiful lunch here today. Delicious food - lamb kofta wrap and fish goujon sandwich on toasted sourdough. Bar staff so friendly, but overworked, but saying that -nothing was a problem. Highly recommend.

What a lush little pub. Walked in slightly tipsy and politely requested "something with lychee in it" to which the bar tender replied "I've got you!" He definitely delivered, with a delicious cocktail! Great music that definitely appealed to us 40 somethings and the decor is gorgeous. Thanks guys! 5* and will be back.

Food was good they were waiting for a delivery appointment didn't have the veggie paella or one of the other veggie platter. They didn't have the peppers so bought garlic mushrooms which they had then found they ran out of but found some peppers. The flatbread are great as was the halloumi fries and the greek salad. The drinks are a decent price. Servers were good

I went for Sunday lunch today with my friends on 2nd February 2025. It was lovely and warm inside. Staff were friendly and very helpful. They were busy but we were advised it might take approximately half an hour for food but it was served earlier. The food was delicious and very reasonably priced. I wouldn’t hesitate to return.

Absolutely dreadful. Upstairs room was souless and freezing cold. We waited 90 minutes for food which, when it arrived was not what we ordered. In addition to that, it was cold, overcooked and the Yorkshire pudding was a tiny frozen one. We had asked for a highchair that they'd given to someone else. There were no hot drinks available. The worst catering and hospitality experience I've ever had! It was a celebration Sunday lunch almost totally ruined until we took the birthday cake to a nearby pub where we were welcomed and given, napkins, plates and hot and cold drinks.

Went to this venue yesterday for a family birthday celebration. It was the worst Sunday lunch I have ever had. After waiting more than an hour, after ordering, we were informed that there was a problem with the ovens. After another wait the food appeared. We were told that all the chicken orders had been substituted with beef, without being asked if that was acceptable. It was not acceptable as we had small children in our party. The presentation was appalling: no stuffing with the pork which should have been included; tiny cheap supermarket yorkshire puddings: very small portions of meat on the pork meals; packet mashed potato and the meals were cold. The room was very cold and there were no hot drinks available. It is an experience not to be repeated.

5* amazing food It was starting to get busy, luckily we had booked a table. was a small wait for food for which staff apologised for BUT oh my was it worth it. We ordered the lamb kofta flat bread and sticky beef flat bread. Both amazing highly recommend. Great selection of drinks great food and friendly staff. Definitely visiting again

Had cocktails with friends and whilst my friend was given a cocktail in a long glass as they had no clean cocktail glasses which they filled anyway for the same price, I had to wait whilst they washed 2 cocktail glasses and give 2 cocktails that didn’t even fill the glass. At £8.95 per cocktail I felt this was poor and the bar staff member was unpleasant when I asked about it. Not what you want on a night out for Christmas!

Staff were not very well mannered stood behind bar talking about tattoos, and drinking at weekend. Food was amazing i had the salty platter (beans were cold though) which was really well presented and nice. My partner had the cod sandwich which she really enjoyed, again food was really good just staff that let the place down. Train your staff to be more sociable with customers and teach them to look at people when talking.

Went for a North Tyneside restaurant week offer. Decor lovely, food OK, but the two guys waiting the tables and bar were ran off their feet and kitchen clearly couldn't cope. It didn't look that busy to me, but they did point out it would be a 30 minute wait for the food as a large table were ahead of us. In practice we waited 70 minutes for food and we noticed others complaining.

Wife and I stopped for lunch on Friday beautiful sharing platter for a very good price. Also a good range of drinks. Staff excellent very attentive. Nice location along the fish Quay, will be going back soon..

We booked the first floor function room for a post funeral wake for 30 people. The buffet was absolutely amazing and the best most of us had ever had both in terms of quality and quantity. The staff were first class and the manager (Connor) was very accommodating in letting us amend the menu to cater for some vegetarians in the group. We couldn't have asked for a better experience.

Arrived at 1pm, order took at 1.30pm, food on table at 2pm, food was lukewarm, no offer of salt pepper etc. Won't return or recommend.

Me and my family came in on Monday for food and drinks and the service was great. Staff was very helpful with accommodating my family’s needs. The food was delicious and i would definitely go back!

Terrible service, Two of us arrived at 2pm. We advised our server that we needed to leave by 3 and asked what were the timings for food. She took our order and said we would be sorted in plenty of time, and that she would make sure to pop our order through before the large group of 10 behind us. We sat and waited 40 minutes and then the food started to arrive for the large group behind us? The server never once apologised and seemed to have her knickers in a right twist, despite the place not even being that busy. We went to the bar at 2.50 to pay for our drinks and leave. She told a colleague to cancel our food order but still no apology from her. The younger server, who took our drinks payment for our drinks did apologise for our wait. Probably should have gave us our 2 cokes on the house for the trouble. Proper Hangry and won't be going back after that shambles.

we visited on sunday to celebrate a baby shower and gender reveal and I have to say we had the most fabulous time the private room named the captain’s table was absolutely beautiful. The staff were fantastic so helpful and always on hand to help with all requests such a friendly welcoming venue with a wonderful atmosphere ! the buffet was delicious varied and lovely selection of treats ! This is definitely a perfect venue for an intimate gathering or a large group celebration A fantastic day was had by all

Called in again as we do every week. Great service . Friendly staff. Most importantly dog friendly unlike some other eateries in the area. Highly recommended for gog owners. Our pooch Lilah always heads for the door. She knows where she is welcome.

Popped in for a drink and decided to order food too. Have ate here a couple of times before and we've always enjoyed it. We were served by Summer who was lovely. Polite, happy and welcoming. We had our dog with us and he was totally made a fuss of and given treats which he loved. I had a burger and my husband a flatbread. Service was great and we couldn't fault the food. The whole place was spotless, including the loo! Always a winner with me when the loos are clean. Definitely worth a visit!

This place is a short walk form where we were staying, a little aprehalesnive about taking our two dogs as we hadn't had them in many pubs before, but it was great, we arrived pretty late for food so staff checked they still had enough before we came in, gave us a quiet corner to sit in with the dogs and served us some some good quality Indian food and a couple of pints, staff were super friendly to the dogs and even gave them a couple of treats, a geeta place to come if your down a walk on the beach with Ur pooch and fancied a refreshing drink or something to eat before heading back, will come here again 😜

Went on a Sunday with family. The pork dinner was absolutely beautiful. Plentiful and extremely tasty. Looking forward to a return visit.

This was my place to go to for Sunday lunch but not after today , waited nearly 40 minutes for it to arrive for it then to be warm not hot looked like it had been warmed through, ordered the all in but the dinner had no pork no crackling a small bit of chicken no were near as good as its been in the past unfortunately I won't be going back ..such a shame as I really enjoyed the Sunday lunches here ..gone down hill !

Visited early afternoon and sat inside for food. Staff were polite and friendly. Ordered Seafood Risotto and a Chicken Curry with rice, also a side order of chips. Meals were tasty and served hot, the hand cut fat chips were cracking. Would have given five stars, however curry should have come with a flatbread but was served with two small slices of bread and one bowl had several chips out of it so really should be thrown out. We would definitely return.

We had the tapas deal and it was excellent value. 4 tapas and 2 glasses of wine for £24.95. Really tasty food and thoroughly enjoyed the music

Have come to salty sea dog since it opened. The standard of drinks has fallen. The gin is just straight gin no fruit or anything else in the drink. Nit even in a gin globe. Love this pub but bar staff are not making an effort.

Worst cups of tea and coffee I've ever paid for.

2 bar staff on for a busy night trying their hardest to keep up (they did really well) Felt a bit crowded at times, the drinks menu was similar to The Ships Cat so try there if its too crowded

Fantastic pub, I love taking star my pug with me as she gets as much attention off summer who works there and as I do fab place , lovely atmosphere friendly , great pint lovely food , what more can I say , it’s an all round winner

We both had fish and it was lovely. Had to leave most of the chips, they were lovely but I was too full.

Me and my partner came here for a new years eve dinner hadn't been before thought we'd try something different. The restaurant only had a few people in it it wasn't busy. Firstly we got seated at our table waitress forgot we were there waited over 20 mins for her to take our order, then when our food came I ordered more drinks and she forgot they were sitting on the bar for a while, she was too busy flirting with the guy that worked there. Will not return here they are not professional in the slightest.

Beautiful bar on north shields quayside. It's gorgeous and has a lovely comfy atmosphere. The staff are brilliant and can't do enough to help you. The place itself is stunning! Though it's three flights of stairs to the top function room floor. Toilets are accessible on each floor. The food was okay, nothing amazing but decent for the price. Would recommend for drinks.

Brilliant Christmas meal here Sat 2 December. Top floor private room for 16 good and true friends. Free glass of Prosecco was a very pleasant surprise. Very generous portions enjoyed by everyone. My first visit there. Can't wait to return soon. Many thanks Salty Dog Team.

Couldnt get parked on Front Street to get breakfast at Ora so we went to the Fish Quay. Okay, we had breakfast at the Salty Dog. Well it was good value for money only £26 for two large breakfasts with tea and coffee. The staff like in Ora are really nice and such a friendly place. Only one let down the blackpudding was awful. Overall a good morning.

Fabulous service - as soon as we entered we were met by a lady behind the bar smiling as she greeted us. The bar was empty as a party of four was just leaving. We sat at a table and ordered drinks then tapas. My mum opted for fish and chips which were huge. Me and my sister ordered a selection of tapas - patas bravas - meatballs - mushrooms - Scotch egg and a side of broccoli with chili. All the tapas were amazing and the price was really good! The whole experience was really nice and I have to praise Helen the lady for her excellent customer service - hard to come by these days! She's definitely a credit to the restaurant and even took the time to chat to us to tell us how they have live music on a weekend! Will definitely be back!

Would have given this a 5* but not too impressed with a table adjacent too the toilets, smell was quite off putting - however the waitress was exemplary and the food (taps - small dishes) was fantastic, the singer that turned up was brilliant (and dealt with a load of rowdy lads well playing some planned and impromptu tracks) first time we had been here - if you like loud atmospheres whilst having your dinner then great . Feel like this could be way more than a loud pub/tapas bar as the quality of food. service and entertainment was superb

Visited here on a rainy Tuesday night so it was understandably quiet which initially put me off a bit, however, it was great service and lovely food. Will definitely go back.

Sat outside for breakfast. Service was great and food delicious.

We had booked a table here for dinner but upon arrival we were ignored until I caught their attention, shown to a table that was sticky & unclean, with menus that were grubby and crumpled. There was no one else eating and we were shown to the most cramped and dingy table even though there were others available. It instantly put us off, we had no faith in care of the food with this experience so we left.

Avoid customer service is appalling and rude staff, waited 45 minutes for breakfast to be told the kitchen is broken and would not refund the full bill to compensate the drinks we bought to have with the food. If we were told sooner the kitchen was broken we would have obviously gone somewhere else, staff was not courteous

Was told no kale for kale salad would I like baby leaf ? No was my reply . Two mins later they’d found some ! White rice covered the kale ( that was the grains on menu) couldn’t find more than a few crumbs of feta ! No mint in the lime and mint dressing ! Teaspoon of edamame beans which looked like they’d been finely sliced !mango and avocado so mushy due to sitting in dressing at bottom of dish and the slight trace of a spring onion. White rice was used to bulk up dish but only added to the totally unattractive presentation.

I had the Mexican breakfast, struggling to see what was Mexican about it, I had about 8 little cubes of chorizo, the avacado was very bland, they swamped my plate in hollandaise sauce, the muffin ended up soggy... The eggs where cooked very well but didn't get to enjoy them because of the amount of sauce. My partner got a basic fried eggs on toast.. No butter, bacon was salty as hell. No one even came and asked how the food was, I don't like to make a scene so I ended up leaving it. Shame because it's a nice setting and I'm sure other menu items will be nice

We often have tapas or Sunday lunch here and they are always spot on. We decided to try the captain’s breakfast And the breakfast muffin and we were very disappointed, sausage and bacon were plenty full, but had no colour to them at all looked like they had been. Boiled not grilled or fried, very unappealing, even the dog turned his nose up. They were cooked but very bland .

We went for lunch and both ordered belly pork. It was advertised as “crispy” which we love. When it arrived the gravy which had been poured over it had caused the skin to soften. When I spoke to the waiter about it he offered to take it back and crisp it up but it would take a while. This we refused and took the skin home and crisped it up ourselves. The food was nice and the service was fine but because of the gravy, the presentation of the food was disappointing. The restaurant is wheelchair accessible, toilets are on the ground floor but difficult to access if you’re a wheelchair user I think. There’s a function room upstairs but I don’t know if there’s a lift. There’s ample parking nearby. We’ll visit again and either choose something else or ask for the gravy to be served separately.

Me and my wife decided to have Sunday lunch. Went to the bar to order and stood for 10 minutes before i was served, ordered fish and chips and a roast pork,when it arrived the fish was lovely but the mash and veg was only warm, Pork was very fatty and gravy luke warm.

First and last visit to this pub, we put our order in for lunch and after an hour wait we had to go and ask where our food was, the barmaid said you been waiting an hour and said she would chase it up.

Great service, amazing food and lovely environment. Would 100% recommend the Sunday lunch and can’t wait to return!!!

While in the area popped in for some coffee, and noticed the breakfast menu. It was an impromptu visit but the Mexican eggs were absolutely delicious. Eggs perfectly done and a flat white to complete my breakfast. Highly recommend for cocktails on the evening too. Thanks you really enjoyed my visit today

Gestern hier gegessen, Meeresfrüchte Risotto und etwas indisches. Hat sehr gut geschmeckt. Aber zu viele Hochstühle an hohen Tischen, unbequem zum Essen. Als wir in das Lokal kamen, fragte ich die nette Bedienung nach britischem Bier, weil wir die übliche Plörre wie Stella nicht mögen. Sie sagte, dass sie 'John Smith's' haben, was wir dann auch bestellt haben. Es schmeckte etwas säuerlich, was es normal nicht tut. Kaum hatten wir gegessen, wurde uns kommentarlos die Rechnung und die Kreditkartenmaschine auf den Tisch Nr. 1 gelegt nach dem Motto "das war lange genug". Das haben wir so noch nicht erlebt. Unser Bier haben wir nicht ausgetrunken, siehe oben, und sind gegangen. Beim Rausgehen haben wir gesehen, dass es das vorzügliche 'Tiny Rebel' vom Fass gibt. Weiß die nette Bedienung denn nicht, dass Wales zu Großbritannien gehört? Zusammenfassend, das Essen war sehr gut, das Drumherum nicht. Werden nicht mehr wiederkommen...

First time for food here and would highly recommend it, there was four of us and we had a tapas deal per couple. We were not disappointed the food was excellent and the service was quick, nice bar will definitely go back again. 5 star.

Went this morning for breakfast and it was a great menu and great quality food at reasonable prices. Service was excellent and very quick. We came here last year for tapas food and this was amazing aswell.

Amazing food in a friendly atmosphere

Food is AMAZING 🤩 staff were lovely and friendly would definitely re visit! We ordered a salty burger and a honey chicken burger and went halves on each both were hot and fresh and tasted delicious.

Lovely bar, decided to eat for the first time. Food is OK, room for improvement, maybe ... The service though isn't good enough. Sorry. Food dried on to plates had to be replaced twice. If a customer complains about a dirty plate, surely you would make the replacement spotless? No, covered in greasy marks. Just water stains apparently. Well, I don't want that either unfortunately. Never mind....Great for a drink, we just won't eat here again!

Food was lovely all home made and nice inside. Good selection on the menu. Give it a try you won't be disappointed
