Absolutely wonderful stop for drinks and dinner. The location is out of this world, with views over to Wales and all along the coastline. Beautiful on a sunny day! Our weather was mixed… The staff were very friendly and happy to chat, if not too busy. We purchased a parking ticket of £5 for 5 hours and had a £3 refund, we were advised to purchase a £3 ticket, then return when the 3 hours were due up for another £3 ticket, which could be refunded on your next order, but didn’t realise this until we went into the pub. My husband and I had a window seat and ordered food, which arrived promptly and hot! It was delicious and exceptional value for money. I would highly recommend a visit, we shall definitely return.

Fantastic, friendly pub. Andrea and Gary are lovely and the pub is very welcome for winter swimmers who come in from the marine lake chattering with cold and wanting pots of tea. I have lunch here after a swim every week all year round and they do hearty pub lunch food from 12 noon, but they are also open for drinks from 10am. They also do a good Christmas lunch (at the appropriate time of year). Do make sure you by a parking ticket to cover the entire time your car is in the carpark a private company - NOT The Salthouse - manages the carpark and will fine you if you overstay. Parking fee can be redeemed with a purchase of food and drinks at the pub. Swimmer-friendly. Also dog-friendly!

Myself, my Wife and our friends live in Clevedon and are regular visitors here. We always receive great friendly service when we dine here. The food is always of good quality and is reasonably priced, that's why we walk past other establishments to go here. In the summer its busy and you can see how hard the staff work to try and keep everyone happy. I understand from a few different sources and many different people who were here recently that a group of people were obviously trying to get a free meal by causing trouble, verbally abusing staff, threatening violence and have subsequently left a bad review. Apparently they ate most of their food before raising their complasints, this is a well known tactic of some people trying to get their food for free. I am sure that if they had a valid complaint it would have been dealt with in a professional manner.

A family lunch to celebrate a birthday, food was delicious but the ambiance was ruined by a large group of very loud and rude people. Don’t like to get involved in others’ problems, but one woman was so vociferous, I could not ignore, I could not believe how she was speaking to the fabulous staff, one young lady was almost in tears. Disgusting behaviour. The staff were blackmailed into giving them a refund for their food! Unbelievable! The review below from the group does not accurately reflect what happened. They were horrid

Oh dear. Sadly some hopeless staff attitudes. Arrived. Told to sit anywhere, but then ignored by staff. Two passing staff members said they would be back to take our order but they never did. Was not particularly busy at the time. Response when asking for the loo inside was ‘Are you a customer?’ Really felt this staff member didn’t want to be there and didn’t want to serve us. We decided to go elsewhere. The worst of the British ‘hospitality’ industry. Visit date: 2pm 7 June.

Not what you'd expect from a roast- New potatoes with one roast potato- but roast potatoes with internal black spots from bruising or early decay. - The 'seasonal' vegetables (think they may have to research what seasonal vegetables are- Swede in May but no Brocolli?) may have been lightly steamed at best but again not what you'd expect with a roast lunch and stone cold by the time they reached the table- some of the leeks I tried were verging on raw rather than al-dente or tender. - No Yorkshire puddings served with the standard roast, only with Pork/ Beef. Nutroast was soggy and tasted like stuffing. - Meat was ok, nothing special. - Asked for a dessert menu as otherwise leaving hungry, and was presented with some scribbled items on the back on a receipt roll. The real issue came when we asked to speak to a manager regarding our table’s water bottle. There was clearly something floating in the bottom of our water bottle and after closer inspection we noticed that there was something stuck on the side. I had assumed it was perhaps limescale from the water system but after speaking with one of the members of staff they informed us it was probably tissue. We asked to speak to a manager at which point somebody came over. We asked them if they were the manager and they abruptly told us they were actually the owner. At this point I should have read his tone as aggressive but, wanting to give them the benefit of doubt, explained to them the problem we had with the water. The owner abruptly told us that he actually checks the CCTV for any complaint he receives, and as the water was filtered and the bottles cleaned daily that it was impossible for there to be tissue in there. We asked him what he meant by that, his statement about checking CCTV and our complaint being impossible felt as if he was accusing us of either lying or planting the tissue in the bottle itself (which we had been drinking throughout). He didn’t have an answer for us other than the issue being entirely impossible and pointing in our faces that he would check the CCTV. My partner asked him not to point in our faces and the owner told my partner to 'watch his mouth'- which completely shocked me.After asking the owner to leave our table so we could end the confrontational situation and ease our embarrassment in front of all the other patrons, he demanded that we should be the ones to leave and he promptly left.We left immediately after, wanting to save ourselves further embarrassment, and started on our half hour journey back to Bristol. Sadly at eight months pregnant I couldn’t face the humiliation walking through the pub to use the bathrooms so felt very uncomfortable on the journey back. I emailed the Manager, Sandi, to ask them to check the CCTV as they said they would, and explain why we were treated this way- it was mortifying and I was confused how or why an owner would speak to customers like this?I tried to be understanding, after all with lockdown easing recently it may just be that operations and service were rusty, so I wanted to give them the opportunity to respond before I wrote any public reviews. We had really looked forward to this outing and came away feeling saddened and confused. They replied reiterating that they still assumed we had planted the tissue in the water bottle ourselves (?!) and that our complaints about the food had warranted being removed from the restaurant. They also accused my partner of being aggressive towards the owner in front of myself, his Mother and our 7yo son, when it was quite clear that the owner was confrontational and aggressive himself.Shocking and sad to write such a terrible review.

Visited yesterday to shelter from the surprise rain after swimming in the nearby lido - when we arrived the table next to us had been complaining that it had taken 45 mins for their drinks to arrive. Lots of very young staff just standing around ignoring customers- need training -(one was very good ) . We ordered our food and waited over an hour before it arrived - my friend ordered a jacket potato only to be told after 30 mins that they didn’t have any !!! Manager and staff need to be trained properly and kitchen staff need to get on the ball . Having worked in catering this was very disappointing particularly as they are in such a prime location and have been shut for so long. Dissatisfied.

We have just returned from our short break in Cleavden and visited The Salthouse twice, first eve for a drink and the following day for lunch. The food was excellent, staff were attentive, courteous and efficient, great system in place where team members had their own domain of service to look after. Seated quickly, food was prompt and delicious, great atmosphere. Booked again for August and we'll be back for another meal. Thank you!

There was absolutely nobody there apart done our one car! Pub was dirty as well and did not feel COVID safe. Clevedon was lovely but the money grabbing owners of this pub are not. My wife and I dined here for lunch on Saturday. Staff though pleasant enough seem rather inexperienced so maybe extra training should be in order. Food was OK to be honest, though the menu could do with a major overhaul and some professional knowledge. However being asked to pay when ordering, no check backs, no asking if we needed another drink or even if we would like a dessert again let's the service down. Still it was a pleasant experience.

Would have loved to give this place a better review as the food was actually OK but.... It was over an hour to get our food from arriving as they'd forgotten about us! Had to ask if it was table service as 30 mins in we'd not even been asked if we wanted drinks. Food eventually served but no one came back to check all was OK or see if we wanted more drinks or dessert. It all took so long that we had to move our car before the ticket expired. We took the ticket stub back with us but was refused a refund as it was the wrong part of the ticket.... Even though nowhere in the instructions tells you what bit is needed. Its standard to take the stub part into places who give refunds.... But not here. There was a lady serving with blue hair who was lovely but we didn't appreciate the attitude of the the other ladies who served us.

A very present setting for a restaurant/Pub with different options of menu went choosing what to eat. We have the full menu; a starter of crispy prawn dumplings follow by a full roast dinner; delicious! Fresh, crispy vegetables and large homemade Yorkshire pudding, to accompany our large portion of meat. The restaurant have COVID measures into place and lots of outdoor seating, plus add great service, as well as reasonable prices, makes for a perfect combination.

Visited for dinner and had high expectations. First we were moved on because apparently we weren't allowed to sit at a particular table , despite there being no signs saying so. We ordered our meals , the fish was burnt and my ploughman's was missing chutney , coleslaw and the bread was cold despite it being advertised as warm. The pudding was a cake with custard despite ordering ice cream and it was served with a knife and fork . How I'm meant to ear custard with a knife and fork is behind me . The chocolate brownie came out still in the packet !!! Normally brownie would be served warm with custard or ice cream not in the packaging . Was shocked . They said they couldn't open the packet because of coronavirus! Lame excuse. How did they manage to serve the cake without packaging then, or the fresh salad etc ??No one came to check if our meals were ok . Disappointed.

I have just been to your pub in Clevedon to which I can only sum up as vile. From your staff to you drinks, every aspect of this place was vile.We sat down at our table outside which is where the good part stopped. We walked in to the toilets and done what you would normally do in a toilets, washed our hands and to our horror one of your staff walked out the cubical and decided it wasnt necessary to wash his hands! This is bad anyway and especially with COVID this is even worse! We followed him out of the toilets, he went straight to the bar and started touching the glasses! Then there is the second part... We order drinks and they got bought to our table. 3 cokes and a fosters, the cokes just tatsed of syrup and the fosters was as flat as a pancake! We went to the bar and let them know and they just laughed and I quote "well it came out of the same pump and this one is fine".What kind of place to you run!

We enjoyed a lunch time meal at the salthouse. We were asked to register contact details for COVID, which we did and were shown to a table for our family. Service was relatively quick although they were busy and the food came quickly and was very good.Staff were pleasent but I don't think this is somewhere you would build a rapport, even if a regular visitor. Price wise, comparable with many similar places. My only criticism would be the odd one way system, which if you need to use the toilet takes you through the bar and out of the building to go back through the entrance procedure again and back to your table. Apart from that, all good.

We’ve tried the Salthouse twice. The first time we waited ages to get served, even though there were plenty of staff. I don’t mind waiting if the food is good. It wasn’t great though, especially the roast. The second time we went to have a drink. We sat down and waited about 20 mins before we got asked if we would like to order. At this time, unlike our first visit, it wasn’t very busy. We didn’t order however as we only had 5 mins left on our parking. There is a clear lack of direction and leadership here. Can’t they set up a zone system for there waiting staff? This is common practice in hospitality. It will vastly improve speed and cleanliness. It’s clear people go to the Salthouse as it’s a great location. It always looks busy too, which to me suggests quality. This however isn’t the case. You will experience a far superior experience both with food and service at the Greene King down the road.

Visited last Monday lunchtime with my husband and 8 year old granddaughter. It was VERY busy and we were informed of up to an hour wait. They take your order at the table, which I appreciated, due to covid regulations. Our drinks came promptly. Our food within 20 minutes. It was "pub grub" and as expected. We were there on government subsidy day, and so the cost was reasonable. The staff were young, but busy and pleasant, especially when addressing my GD (she's very polite!) My only critcism would be that the otherwise delicious chips were not "clean" - the oil in the fryer needs straining or changing - black burnt bits over chips, is NOT acceptable. We used the lavatories, following the arrows - they were very clean with plenty of hand sanitiser all around.

I feel compelled to write my second review of this beautiful well run establishment after seeing a couple recent slanderish reviews from nasty vile people who have no respect, gratitude, or understanding. We all know how hard it's been on a lot of businesses specially the pub & restaurant trade. & We have all be told by Government as well as using our own common sense that things have changed from the norm during this time or world wide pandemic. Everyone knows that we have had to become more patient as shopping and visiting our favourite pubs/restaurants its taking longer to cue up or to get orders through. The Salthouse already is a 5* establishment & quite rightly so it ticks all boxes for man woman child and there pets the able bodied and the disabled. There is a good size car park that is manned by another company and not by the pub however the pub refunds your parking ticket for the price of a pint which is fare as this means those who want to use the pub will get the use of the car park and not just those who want to park and avoid the pub and then go straight to the sea front. However i have witnessed in the past few weeks since the pubs were allowed to reopen a very small but very ignorant few that thought by complaining enough they would either get there drinks or food for free this is disgusting behaviour for adults specially when they have brought small children with them. Then another couple was told politely that because of the pub being very busy the waiting time for food was anything up to 1 hour. However there had been a major accident on the near by motorway that morning and all traffic got diverted through our tiny town & you can guess what happened everyone decided to stop off in our town whilst all routes were gridlocked & headed straight for the beach as this was a very hot day. The salthouse took as many orders as they could within there spaced out tables would allow but the people just kept on coming the manager decided quite rightly to shut the kitchen made all staff aware & then proceeded to tell all then visiting dinners that the kitchen was now closed due to higher than normal demand & that the waiting time for food would be at least 1 & a half hours. Many of the cue then left and were polite and understood but 1 or 2 then just kept on complaining to which the landlord came out tried to explain but they were having none of it & so the landlord told them you have been rude to my staff rude to me we have put everything possible in place for Covid -19 regulations which had been checked off by health and safety. They were then rude to the landlord left and then gave horrible lies on tripadvisor about the staff the pub and its food which by the way is amazing food i know both the chefs there personally and can tell you there food is spot on every time. Please read most the reviews of this beautiful establishment not just the few who would try anything to get a free meal. Cheers All.

Do not visit this terribly run place , don’t be fooled by its lovely location it’s rough dirty and staffed by extremely untrained kids run by a rude and threatening man. If I could give zero I would. We visited on a Tuesday evening long wait even to get a table no queue system in place. And so overcrowded. Lack of staff and the few were just kids really no training and no management. Result ? Absolute chaos, repeatedly asking for tables to be cleared and cleaned no one did it. Repeatedly asked to order food no one came you literally had to beg. Ordered drinks took over an hour I kid you not: lots of things off the menu even after I ordered an embarrassed young waitress came and said I’m really sorry to have to tell you this so long after ordering ( 45 mins )scampi finished so I then had to reorder and it took a further 50 Minutes of begging to get the food.WeOrdered and paid for drinks that never came despite asking repeatedly any staff meme were whose attention we could summon. We were half way done the first pint when we ordered and had sat with empty glasses for nearly an hour when we were told the order hadn’t been placed even though we had pId £8 for them. The very rude man who I’m guessing was in charge had all the charm of an east end villain and aggressively told us why didn’t we go to the bar ? Why because it was table service and we had ordered and paid and reminded staff on at least 4 occasions. I was very very very upset the man was threatening in his behaviour and instead of apologising tried to blame all the terrible shortcomings on us and made us feel as if we were dishonest, repeatedly and agfeeively stating that our food was order was placed at the time the replacement meal was be ordered. . It was such a stressful upsetting and frankly worrying visit. No COVID precautions being adhered to in 2 hours I didn’t see one table cleaned dirty plates everywhere and no soap in the ladies toilets. Come on that’s unacceptable when we aren’t in a pandemic ! Please avoid this place because the food is awful anyway! Over cooked greasy fry up. Disgusting wouldn’t surprise me if it gets closed down due to a COVID outbreak and the carpark will be a COVID testing center next week.

Having recently moved to Clevedon, we were keen to try out this welll situated pub for a quick meal on their terrace last night. A good number of people sat outside, but there were plenty of free tables.Staff were desperate to do the bare minimum - with a complete absence of either charm or efficiency. We ordered drinks and wanted to make a quick decision re food when our drinks arrived. We were told someone else would take our order. No one came. Eventually my wife went in to complain, and a waitress appeared - to tell us that our menu choices and many others were off. A further delay and eventually we put on our order for two of the few remaining items. We waited. And we waited. And listened to other people who were also very unhappy. After 75 minutes since we arrived I went in to complain. I found two of the waitresses chatting happily in front of the kitchen - oblivious to any problems. That was the final straw - we left as our patience was exhausted

Felt unclean and rough to be brutally honest. Staff need training in customer service.

After arriving we showed ourselves to our table as gave up waiting to be shown, no member of staff was interested in greeting us and explaining the process. Was impressed with the hand gel on arrival, forms for track and trace and one way system in the bar after that it all went down hill.Barman was very rude shouting ‘it’s table service’ when we tried to confirm which table ours was. After 10 mins had to ask for menus and then had to ask again to order food and drinks. It was clear the menus hadn’t be cleaned, why not use disposable menus like other places? After we ordered we asked about wait times and it was then the waitress told us up to an hour but more like 30 mins. No kidding you we waited at least 1 hr 15 mins and during this time I witnessed an elderly couple ask where their food was for the waiter to say I’ll find out and never return to them, finally a waitress appeared only to tell one of them they had run out of cod after waiting over an hour.I also witnessed a table left un cleaned for over an hour after the previous diners had left, in the end a family cleaned it themselves. Our food finally arrived and was ok, nothing special. I ordered more drinks only to be told I couldn’t have these half price as I wasn’t ordering food, I’d only spent 90 mins waiting for my food and wouldn’t have had more drinks if my food had arrived on time.My son decided he would forgo his free icecream as by now it was 3:15pm and we’d all had enough.I have eaten at a few places since lock down ended and not experienced anything so bad. There was no obvious signs of cleaning, no social distancing, no organisation and clearly staff unprepared. With less tables the staff should have more time to clean up etc there were certainly plenty of staff working. I would suggest you give this place a wide birth as that’s lots that needs improving.

Had some friends visiting town so took them in the Salthouse for some lunch. The venue has tables across a large patio adjacent to some decking with further seating on benches down on the lawn in front of the pub. All told probably outside seating for about 200. Pre-lockdown, customers sitting outside would go and order at the bar whereas now the pub is obviously working within the official coronavirus guidance and thus all of this seating is now table service.I feel this context is important and a lot of the whinging and whining in other reviews is unfair. Such a change for a busy business is extraordinary and takes time to settle in.Myself and my friends seated on one of the benches on the lawn and it is true that it took a while to be served, and that the youngster who served us had clearly only recently been hired and was new to the job. The first round of drinks took 20 minutes to arrive and given how busy they were I knew it didn’t bode well for our food order. But I was wrong, our second round of drinks arrived promptly as did the food, and I gather that the delay with the first round was due to issues changing the barrel. The meal itself was simple but enjoyable pub grub that didn’t pretend to be anything else and went down with no complaints from any of us. The setting is fantastic and the core team behind the Salthouse are efficient and friendly.Hardly a life changing experience but a thoroughly pleasant and relaxing afternoon. I gave 5 stars to counter some of the babble and hot air written below. These are weird and difficult times for everyone and the team at the Salthouse are clearly doing their best to get to grips with the new normal. The Covid measures in place were entirely appropriate, I look forward to my next visit.

We visited as a family group of 4 with our dog for an evening meal, and this was one of the worst meals we have had for a long time. All waiting staff were rude, and looked like they didn't want to be there. We asked for a bowl of water for the dog, which never arrived. We were told one of our chosen starters wasn't available and when we chose a cheaper alternative, we were not given a refund for the difference as we had already paid. We had to ask several times for a repeat drinks order. When we were asked if we had been served everything we had ordered, we pointed out we hadn't received one of the dishes and chips to go with two of our meals, to which the waitress rolled her eyes! We received sauces that had already been used, tables had up to 9 people on them, no tables were cleaned and no staff wore any form of PPE or made any attempt at social distancing, which was appalling. To top it off, my medium rare steak was tough and chewy and well overdone, as was my partner's. Not a single person asked how our meal was despite being served by 4 different individuals. Overall a horrendous experience and we shall not be back, serious work needed to improve both the food and the staff.

Booked a table here for our 8th wedding anniversary. Both of us ordered the steak burger with cheese and broken onion rings. Food was lovely, would definitely recommend!Service was quite disappointing. Wasn't really any service with a smile, only asked once if we wanted to order drinks, didn't reorder as nobody came back to ask. Due to covid it was table service only. To be fair it wasn't that busy, so no need for rushed service, with no smiles!Overall, outdoor seating offers lovely views, and the food was lovely too!! Service definitely needs to be taken up a notch.. Had we had better service, we would of stayed a while longer for a couple more drinks! We will return, as food was so nice.. Just hope for better service next time!

On a hot sunny day we did wait over 30 minutes for our round of drinks to be delivered to the outside terrace. However unlike other reviewers I am prepared to forgive this as most places are struggling with coronavirus rules and restrictions, and this pub definitely has Clevedon's best location, nestled into the tree-covered hills and boasting a view of the Marine Lake, the sea and the pier. The plain chips we ordered were overfried and greasy, but the cheesy chips were yummy (I think they used smoked cheese). Not bad if you just want a snack, a drink and a nice view.

had to asked 3 times if we could order went inside and came back out and told someone would come to our table which was fine! had no problem another 20 mins had gone past! then had them go back up to someone who was walking around outside serving tables who had just go there , didn’t have the menu up, looking at waitresses who were walking around and still nothing, eventually went back up to someone serving and said we STILL haven’t been arced after 35 mins also you do have to pay for parking and this was eating into our time, i told her we still haven’t been served and felt like we were last ok everyone’s list after people coming in? eventually someone served us and brought our drinks and came out 2 mins later which was great we were still very thankful and polite! we just wanted to ordered two drinks and the fact them came out 2 mins later shows they were just ignoring us! disgusting service we hadn’t do anything to them just sat down hadn’t spoke. to anyone till they avoided us , was so confused by this and don’t get how they work, if they don’t want to serve and do what they are there for then i don’t get it

Sunday lunchtime with friends should be an enjoyable experience. Unfortunately we chose this bar/restaurant to eat which ruined our time together. Our drinks order arrived - 3 drinks instead of the 5 ordered. We asked politely for this to be remedied and the manager was called to speak to us....he gave us a torrent of abuse accusing us of trying to have free drinks when all we were requesting was our drinks that we had ordered and paid for.Food arrived - very mediocre. Only one option of gluten free available which was clearly a frozen fishcake rather than a homemade one. All food was edible but certainly not worth the price paid. During the COVID 19 pandemic the government encouraged us to start going out to help the hospitality business whilst maintaining social distancing. As a frontline NHS worker I am strict with my social distancing. However, this was impossible as correct systems were not put in place. Luckily we had antibacterial wipes with us but I worry that this bar/restaurant has very poor hygiene. Lunch out became an extremely stressful time instead of the relaxing time we were looking forward to. Such a shame as the property is in an ideal position with lovely views. I certainly will not return until the management has been retrained or changed.

My husband and I visited for the day, having travelled from the Glos/Worcs border. We were able to park easily and the signage was very clear that payment was necessary, even though he is disabled. I did not think that £5 for the day was excessive, especially as £3 was refunded by the pub, when we had coffee and mince pies! The service was friendly and particular thanks go to Sophie who served us, who was lovely. We had a great couple of hours along the seafront, where we could use his motor scooter. We returned for a late lunch, where we had, possibly, the best tasting cottage pie ever! This was reasonably priced and my only comment would be to say, please use birds eye peas, or the like to accompany such a delicious meal. Following coffee again, Sophie recommended their Sunday Roast. We may well return to do this, but the next time the sun is due to shine, we may extend our stay to enjoy more time. Many thanks to Sophie for making the day extra special for an elderly couple.

Our carers took our disabled daughter to The Salthouse Bar and Restaurant and got fined £60 for the privilege. They noted that there was a charge for the car park but assumed that the Blue Badge would entitle them to free parking. I understand the need to stop non-customers from using the car park however to fine customers who misread the signage is surely defeating the object of encouraging people to return.

My husband and I have visited The Salthouse Bar and Restaurant on and off for many years. It's a lovely spot to just sit and enjoy the view of Clevedon. We have taken our family there for many meals and have always found it a pleasant experience. We decided to take a visit yesterday with our Grandson as a treat. We ordered 3 starters which were lovely. As a mains, my husband ordered a rump steak, medium to well cooked. My grandson asked for the gourmet burger. The burger was nearly £10 just for the burger, if you wanted a topping, that was an extra £3.00. My main meal was delicious but my husband's steak was so tough that he couldn't eat it and his chips were well over cooked. The burger was dry and was made up mainly of an onion mix, which my grandson can't eat onions. (Maybe I should have checked, but you mainly get onions on top, not made into the burger itself) so he couldn't eat that either. I didn't make a huge fuss but I politely told our server (who was lovely by the way) and she went to have a word with 'the chef'. She came back looking a bit embarrassed by having to tell us that the chef said it was our fault for ordering a medium to well done steak, so it would be tough and that it is the way they make their burgers so tough basically. I was astonished. He didn't even come out to talk to me himself. And the cost of their meals are not cheap, which we don't mind, if the quality of the food matched their prices. I'm afraid, after all these years, we will not be returning here because of one rude chef.

Great situation for a pub overlooking the bay. Nice beers here, I certainly had a good pint of Doom Bar here. We thought we’d give their food a try, expecting to be disappointed. So often we venture out and try a pub or restaurant, and so often we are disappointed. However, the gourmet burger sounded good, with triple cooked chips. We ordered, and sat by the window and enjoyed the view. We could not have been more surprised when our burgers turned up. They looked fab! Not small, but big and very impressive. With a really nice relish on the side, mayo as well. And the chips were just awesome. Big and chunky and very crisp; some of the best chips I’ve ever had. The burger was superb. Hand made, and packed with taste; big thick and super tasting, certainly not bland. Served with some fresh salad that was also very nice.
