The Sally Pussey's Inn in Wiltshire

Arrived at 8:30 for our booking and seated quickly. Food was great, lots of GF options. However, we will not be returning. We were hounded by staff to leave at 10 from 9:30 onwards, which ruined the evening. What was meant to be a leisurely dinner and quick coffee ended up being more of a pit stop we weren’t welcome at. One rather rude waitress came over abruptly, stating ‘you do know we close at 10’ - it was 9:44. I don’t expect staff to be thrilled if guests want to stay late, but we don’t want to be harassed about it. We did not appreciate being told 3 times in 10 minutes that we’d have to leave at 10. This is bearing in mind that we paid our bill at 9:20. We could not have stayed any longer anyway, as they shut the bar at 9:30. All guests were then herded out like sheep. Unpleasant over. Your custom is not welcome, and it is not right to harass paying customers to leave. You said 10, so we will be out at 10.

Met my son for lunch here again today as it’s midway for us (300 miles apart). After a long drive it was so nice to be served by an incredibly astute young man who read the room brilliantly, didn’t rush us, gave great advice and found out when he didn’t know an answer. Good humour flowed and while the burger was dry as a hockey puck, I didn’t care as I was having a great experience. The brownie desert more than made up for the burger and everything was going so well until an older member of staff asked if we wanted anything else? So we said not just now and she returned momentarily with our bill and told us to move on as people were waiting for our table! Looking around it was clear there several similar empty tables and while we complied with the request, we noticed nobody at all waiting when we left. What had been a superb experience up to that point left a bitter taste to a special family moment. Still managed to tip the young man directly before leaving, and hope his good nature rubs off in the mean time.

Lovely Sunday Carvery. Everything made/cooked in-house. Great choice of vegetables. Lovely atmosphere, very friendly staff. Would recommend

Booked a table of 12 for Sunday lunch time birthday celebration. The waiter (I believe his name was Brandon) was very attentive & patient. He was also very helpful with the birthday cake & taking a photo of our group (also putting up with my crazy friend). The food (carvery, other mains & desserts) portions was plentiful & delicious. The only small grips was the beef was tough & some of the roasties were a little hard to cut into but that can happen to the best of us when it come to cooking a roast dinner. Have not been to Sally Pussey's Inn for years but will definitely go back sooner than later. Food prices are very reasonable too.

Sally's is always a great place for families to gather and enjoy some good food. We usually love to come for the carvery on a Sunday but it's also got a great selection during the week. Staff are always friendly and welcoming and the timing of service is generally spot on, with just enough time given for people to make their minds up about what they're ordering. I will note however that the carvery can be great but some parts can also be hit or miss (but is usually pretty good) however this time in particular the roast potatoes were inedible due to how hard they were. You couldn't cut them and I had a genuine thought that I could break my teeth trying to eat them. Vegetables and meat selections are also generally very nice. It's unfortunate that sometimes the potatoes or some elements of the carvery can be somewhat of a gamble depending on the time of day but all in all I am still looking forward to visiting Sallys again in the near future

Another great meal , we had a baguette with Bacon ,Brie and Cranberry and a Chicken and Bacon salad .Both meals were quickly placed on our table . As usual good sized portions which all tasted great , no complaints at all .Cannot wait to visit again to try another meal off the vast menu .

We had a delightful experience at the Sally Pussy. The service was excellent. We did not have to wait long for anything. The food came out quickly, hot and very good sized portions and the whole meal was very reasonably priced. The choice of food was so vast it made it difficult to decide what to have. I definitely recommend eating at this establishment. Xx

Although we had a little issue with the table, staff were very quick to help us and move us to another table. Food was amazing and the service was also amazing.

Website is absolutely horrendous. Can't book, type, or correct anything. Slow, baggy and keeps freezing. Not wasting anymore time trying to book.

Group of 10 arrived today, we walked in and the place was heaving! This in no way affected the speed or service. Food was superb, plenty of staff and a brilliant afternoon

Oh my gosh … service amazing , ordered drinks they appeared at my table almost instantly , I ordered food and it was there within 5mins a lot quicker than the local maccies … food quality was amazing , Gordon Ramsey quality food in minutes is absolutely astonishing!!!

Went today for my girlfriends birthday, absolutely beautiful food, very quirky vibe, the only complaint I had was I wish I could have ate it all, 10000% recommended 😋

I found Sally very accommodating, with a warm welcome. I went with the lamb shank and do recommend it, on a bed of creamy mash and a separate bowl of vegetables. I finished my evening with something sweet and sticky, delicious. Next time I'm in the area I'll make sure I pop in. I would like to add a mention for the staff who were attentive, but not overbearing. It's always good to into a restaurant where the staff are happy and smiling. A big thank you to Sally for providing a pleasurable evening for me and my three guests.

Just had the best Full English Breakfast I’ve had in a while!!! Obviously they use good products. Very tasty (first place I’ve found good fried bread in a while) Restaurant very cozy, good service too.

Every was nice the food was good value to the price except the desert ice cream 2 scoops £5.00 very small scoops not worth the money......

Went here for a Sunday Carvery. OMG what a great place. The Carvery was absolutely fantastic. Menu has so many good dishes to offer. Will have to do a number of visits I we want to try the other dishes.

I was couple of time in Sally’s Pub and it’s always really pleasure experience and meal are amazing 🤩 I was nicely suprised and atmosphere is very welcoming . Highly recommended for everyone:)

I had the braised beef and ale stew, and my sister had the beef fajitas. My sister thought the fajitas were the best ever and I really enjoyed mine. A couple of pints of Madri and my sister just had tonic waters. Would thoroughly recommend as all other dishes coming out looked equally delicious.

I found the staff to be very friendly and polite.

Another very enjoyable meal here and reasonably priced. Service extremely quick and staff were polite and helpful. We booked for a Sunday lunch before leaving as we know how good that is as well.

Staying up the road at Premier Inn, booked a table at the Beefeater for 19.30! 20.00 no drink ordered then told another 45 mins for food! Gave up and came here! Sat down drink appears in 2 mins, food 10 mins later!!! Outstanding service!!!! Thank you 😊

we spent a wonderful hour and a half, the food was delicious and at a very nice price, this is the moment when for the price you get more than you expect. The food was prepared very quickly for three people in under 20 minutes. Having read the reviews, I was ready for the 'grumpy' Lady 😄, so it was not a surprise for me. She reminded me of the famous cat and made me want to smile all the time 🤭. The only downside is the pressure about an hour and a half, during online booking this appeared 2 or 3 times, although no one told us about it in the restaurant, but when I came with friends, I had to control myself and look at my watch all the time, which of course makes the visit not so comfortable and pleasant. I can also understand the owners of the restaurant, since it is in great demand. We were on Friday at 2 pm and there were noticeably a lot of people. If you come in a company for a few hours to relax, you will probably need to look for another place, here - eat and leave

It was our first time dining at Sally Pussey's to celebrate my wife's birthday, and we thoroughly enjoyed our experience. The recommendation from our friend proved to be spot-on. Lovely place. Pleasant staff. Good food and portions. Good prices. Very busy but this didn't effect the service. Definitely recommend. But need to book.

Fantastic place great service really nice food staff are really good I highly recommend this place if you are a local or just visiting it has a good car park space but if if you do come by car from Swindon you do have to drive to the roundabout and come back round also you can get the 55 bus or 99 bus from Swindon bus station

Great food but what's with the service? Sour attitudes yesterday and not welcoming an older lady in particular was very rude and unfriendly..possibly the manager referenced in other reviews? Either way she needs to set a better example to the team

Such a shame as food and service has always been pretty good here. Today, my curry was luke warm, infact only thing warm on the plate was the chips. Poppadom was stale! Staff weren't interested at all and not once asked how food was. Instead, they were busy sitting around the bar talking and singing. It's not as if it was busy as myself and partner were the only two customers in there. Just a little disappointing today compared to previous experience.

We found the waiting staff to be standoffish and severely lacking in hospitality skills. The man that was "greeting" customers was very abrupt and rude as soon as we entered the pub. We had booked a table only to be told in no uncertain terms when we arrived that "the table was booked out again in 2 hours". It was Bank Holiday Monday and the place was less than half full from the time we got there until we left. The atmosphere was gloomy and the waiting staff were not at all attentive. We had to wait for plates to be cleared and we had to chase for our bill as they were stood around the bar eating their own food! We will not be returning.

Only have 1 star because there was no zero stars and it would not let me post the review without a star rating. We had a table for 6 people booked for 12:30 on Bank Holiday Monday. Rang them the night before to check if it would be a problem if we moved the booking forward 30 minutes to 12:00. We arrived at 11:50 to be greeted absolutely obnoxious male on front of house whose 1st comment to us was not "Welcome, follow me to you seats" it was "Just to let you know, the table is rebooked out for 2pm" How is that our problem, we didn't rebook the table out so why are we being made to feel we are going to have to rush our Bank Holiday family meal out. Totally rude and put us on edge before we had even sat at our table. Message to all the staff at The Sally Pussey's Inn, Swindon - we are doing you a favour by eating in your restaurant, you are not doing us a favour! There are an abundance of good food pubs and restaurants out there and needless to say, you didn't get my hard earned money on this occasion and nir will you for as long as I live. Absolutely disgusting attitude. If you don't like being in hospitality, there are plenty of other jobs out there to do!

Just had a takeaway. Ordered 2 mustang burgers amongst other things. Neither had any stilton in. So disappointed as Sally s chosen specifically for this burger.

A really nice evening. The place was very busy so for us, very noisy and difficult to chat easily. The staff did manage to control the kids running around, so overall made the experience an enjoyable one. Only marked down as everyone can always do better 😊

Amazing food. Good service from the waitress. Establishment very clean. HOWEVER…. Sadly the proprietor or manager is always gruff and unpleasant. Every visit. Time and time again. So unnecessary. Pick up your skirt and figure out if you want to be in hospitality or not. You have customers who want to frequent the place, but without your lousy attitude. P.S. stop overcharging people. Not ok. Edit: another occasion we went our food had been burnt.

Had the Dutch burger, was impressive in size and struggled to finish, the flavour from the sauce was excellent.

We visited without reservation but they managed to seat us. We ordered and paid via a QR code, but I think I prefer personal contact - just for the fun... It was delicious!

I had the steak & Stilton salad. It was lovely, until I hit a streak going through the steak. Unfortunately making it hard to eat. I feel sure it was just an unluckily piece. I have eaten there before and it's been lovely. Definitely won't give up going there... 😊

Great carvery, reasonable prices.

Quick friendly service and good food at reasonable prices

If you are the type of person who likes staring at your phone without the bother of talking to anyone this is the place for you. On walking in the place looks welcoming, nice bar and pleasant garden, but don’t worry, the unpleasant staff will ensure you never get near the bar. “Have you booked a table?” (It’s 11:30 on a Friday morning, the staff outnumber customers) no we haven’t, and rest assured we never will, so we told them we were hoping to sit outside for a drink “There’s QR codes on the table.” So we wander outside and peruse the menus but there’s no drinks menu. My partner then went in to try to order some drinks but was quickly shoed out by the same unpleasant member of staff, and we were admonished for not following orders to use the table QR code, needless to say we never did order anything, there are plenty of other places where staff are pleased to see you and assume that you will want to go to the bar and order a drink.

Amazing place, real portions of quality food…worst part is driving home as you miss it already…

I gave it a try to see if any better after going the last time on a Saturday evening we were rushed between courses and presented with the bill whilst people were still eating etc. So this time we went early on a Monday evening after school pick up, not many in the pub but service was slow and they took a long time to take plates away and ask about puddings, drinks, or the bill. This was a let down and surprising. Don't think we will be rushing back. Definitely not as good as it used to be. Also messed up the order too.

Popped in for a coke on the way back from a customers. Menu looked great and reasonably priced so treated myself to the sausage and caramelised onion baguette. Came with a generous salad and nachos. Was delicious and very filling. Staff very attentive too. Although I'm from Portsmouth will certainly visit again if passing.

Great pub that's been nice and quiet when I've been, without feeling dead! Really good food with wide variety of options, all cooked really well. The famous turkey curry is fab too. Good value for money, highly recommend :)

It was our friend's 50th wedding anniversary lunch. The function room was perfect for the occasion.

Stopped & had lunch here on the way to Wooton Bassett. Lovely pub with a nice interior, plenty of seating and a nice garden area outside for eating. Nice and clean bar and seating area. Plenty of toilets, disable one also, all nice and clean & the disable toilet is big enough for a wheelchair. Was a bit quiet and a trickle of diners, but great customer service and food delivered faster than a circuit at Silverstone race track. Ordered 6 different meals, and all arrived at the same time, all were substantial portions and all were delicious. Had a couple of bottles of wine that were reasonable in price. All in all a nice afternoon lunch at a good price.

We went here for a birthday meal, there was 10 of us. The choice of food is amazing, they cater for every need. My wife ordered steak and said it was the best steak she has had at a restaurant ever. I ordered the double burger and it was the biggest burger I have ever seen. Others ordered fish and chips, curry and ham, egg and chips and everyone commented on how good the food was. Will definitely be back again in the future.

I am a regular lunchtime visitor to Sally Pussey's. Seconds from the M4, it is great for meeting up with friends further afield. Beautiful, clean, spacious pub/restaurant, great outdoor area and delicious food. The staff are really lovely, warm and helpful especially Adrianna, she always goes the extra mile!

We ordered A jacket potato with Turkey curry £ 9.50 ,a portion of chips £4.50 and a Bacon ,Brie ,and onion baguette £9.50 . We only waited a short while before the food arrived .The food was all tasty ,well cooked and plenty of it ,for a sweet my wife had a Cheese cake £ 7 .Again it soon arrived ,a large portion again and tasty too .

Had a meal there Monday evening 8th July Was a really good meal and would totally reccomend eating here. Will definitely be going there again

Took my wife for lunch here today and we had a fabulous meal and drink. Considering what most places are charging these days for food and drink The Sally Pussey's Inn is excellent value. Definitely recommend you try it. As their slogan says.... Tasty portions, sensible prices! Well they're not fibbing!

It wasn't Bad but it wasn't Great! First thing was the food hygiene rating on the entrance is only a 3 out of 5, I ordered a burger for £18.50 and was expecting great things, it was OK but nothing special fo the money.

Last came here 30+ years ago. Still a really nice venue . Staff efficient and friendly

It’s our first choice for eating out in Swindon. Great food and service, and a lovely outdoor space as well.

When we had dessert few weeks ago it was good, so we thought we'll try some food then. I had mushroom arancini with barely mushroom in it and with mayo which tasted like the cheapest one, and my boyfriend had a double dock burger... I was shocked, the quality of meat was terrible. It was hard and stiff like pork or something. Cheese tasted really cheap as well. We definitely won't be back.

Lovely late lunch/early tea. Topped potato skins were amazing, steak so well cooked and the chicken burger was huge!

Love the food and the great service

Walk in for 1 on a Sunday, sat immediately. Got the carvery, regular for £13. Chef sliced the meat and then Help yourself , really got your money worth! Pint was clean and fresh. Post meal took a while to clear table, lots young staff running food, first jobs vibes. Got the brownie, which was served warm and didn't seem homemade. Was very busy and clearly popular with locals, would recommend!
