Service is good. Staff are heplful, atmosphere nice. However, the quality of the food is most certainly not proportional to the cost. I had the Trout Pastrami as a starter, it was dry, the teaspoon full of horseradish sauce was so over powering, that instead of complementing the trout it just killed it. All of this was pulled on a dry old piece of soda bread. The side vegetables were tasteless and also dry.

I called ahead because I wanted to check that lunch would still be available at 3.00 pm. You can only speak to an automated system. It took and confirmed by text my booking for lunch at 3.00 pm. When I arrived, there was no lunch available, only sandwiches. Had the 'robot' said that the kitchen closed at 3.00 pm, I would have stopped earlier elsewhere. The waiter merely observed that "There's not a lot I can do about it." If The Lamb is going to rely on a robot, they need to give it the right instructions!

Excellent Sunday Lunch for 12. Everyone had a great meal and the staff were excellent. Would recommend. Visited the Lamb last year and would have given it two stars being kind. Only went there after other choices were already booked for a large group. Vast improvement under the new management and I’m delighted to see such a legendary local hostelry back on its feet.

The exterior of the Lamb on first impression is beautiful. Stepping into the place was a lovely warm welcoming environment. The very attractive inglenook fire place had the fire going, the place was buzzing with people either sitting by the bar having a few drinks or people in the restaurant area having a meal. We was staying for the night so made our way to the Inns reception desk. We was greeted by a member of staff who was very helpful and showed us to our room. The room was lovely, warm, very clean, nice hot rainforest head shower and nice selection of teas and condiments on the tea tray. We went for dinner in the restaurant and was greeted by a man called Ian who we believe is the restaurant manager. What a lovely gentleman he is. He took care us from start to finish. He was very friendly, very professional and clearly knows his trade. We really wanted the 35 day matured steak as we previously looked at the menu online, but just before we ordered a table of 12 cleared the place out of steaks!!!! Very disappointed we was. We explained to Ian that we drove a long way from north London for their steaks and he said leave it with me. He came back a little while longer and said he can muster up an offcut but as a starter to share. We said absolutely and we both ordered the beer battered haddock for main course. The steak was melt in the mouth, extremely well cooked by the hard working chefs and the Fish and chips was amazing. Absolutely no complaints and totally clean plates. Ian made all this happen. What a top guy. You can see the way he has a system and connection going with the chefs to produce the quality of service. Well done Ian 👏. We had a fabulous night's sleep and breakfast was also a great experience. Quality ingredients make the full English top class. The morning staff were also lovely and helpful. Great experience all round and we will definitely be back to stay again. We are currently in exmoor now but we loved the food so much we have booked The Lamb for Sunday lunch for 2:30pm today on our way back to London.

A great spot , beautiful visit and handy for those regular trips on the 303. Staff were helpful and friendly and the wine was excellent although pricey! However, the starter didn’t provide sufficient bread for the camembert so more had to be ordered and the meals ( all roasts) were really disappointing as the Yorkshire puddings were overcooked and verging on burnt, and the roast veg felt like warmups from lunchtime. We were asked if our food was alright, but when you are treating friends to a meal out, it spoils the atmosphere to say anything negative. We will probably choose another venue next time we need a break in our journey.

What a wonderful, quaint and beautiful pub in a rural location. We went on a hike around the estate from Tisbury and come across the Lamb in Hindon. I’m so glad we did our welcome to the pub was amazing, lovely smiling welcome with a run down of the pub and the menus on offer. Choice of where to sit and then the menu, typical pub grub but boy oh boy was the food magnificently delicious. Having the beef burger on offer and the haddock and chips (with curry sauce and tartare sauce) it was mouthwatering looking at it. The batter on the fish was cooked to perfection the correct golden colour to crisp. The chips with chunky salt and then the condiments well the curry sauce was perfect, right flavour even on a small amount and then the homemade tartare sauce perfect combination for this magnificent meal. The beef burger was perfectly cooked with the moisture of the meat, with the thickness of the meat it was succulent.

Very disappointing from start to finish. After arriving at the bar we were not offered a drink, instead staff continuously walked past. After being sent to our table menus were brought over a good 15 minutes later. No one returned to the table to take our order, and when we asked it felt a chore to them. We were not asked if we wanted more drinks instead after drawing attention we were shouted at from the bar to be asked about what we wanted. Again the same story for dessert, We were made to feel we were a real hindrance from start to finish and we will not be returning. This is a shame as the food was good quality.

A lovely homely pub, acoustics good, not too nosiy despite it being busy. Food was good, but arrived warm and so didn't stay that way for long; please heat the plates first and ensure food is piping hot on arrival at the table. A little bit dispapoointed in the cauliflower cheese though; once the roasts were delivered, we were asked if we wanted any and we agreed on 3 between 5, assuming they were part of the roast dish. On paying we were charged an additional £18.00, a bit of a shock as they were very small (souffle pot size) for the cost and misleading on the menu as we think it was called 'Pitchfork Mac & Cheese'. Think the waitress should have made us aware they were not part of the roast costs.

The open fire was so welcoming. We got chatting to another couple who were stopping over with their dog. They were returning customers. Dinner was fantastic and super tasty. Having booked in to stay at The Lamb, we decided to subsequently book in for a meal with them on that same night. Ruth had checked us in for our stay and answered any questions we had before we could ask them, Rob was our server for the meal, he was attentive, talkative and very welcoming. The only reason that it isn't 5 stars across the board is that the atmosphere was slightly lacking, but this was a rural pub on a random Tuesday in January, the atmosphere was never going to be perfect. However from our meal and through our stay, Ruth, Rob and the team at The Lamb were all fantastic and that's not even taking time to talk about the amazing quality of the food (the baked camembert was one of the best we've had). We both had a full 3-course meal, plus drinks and it was all awesome.

We (4 chaps) had booked for a gentleman's evening out to enjoy a nice steak dinner. Pub was very quiet and all night it remained largely empty with 1 other visible dinner plus a shooting party of around 12 in one of the other rooms. Atmosphere suffered and whilst its not in the team's control it was very surprising on a Thursday night in the lead up to Christmas. Main two issues were the very limited steak options which given its one of their 'big' selling points was very disappointing. Just 6-7 sirloin steaks left, everything else not available! Either they had a significant run on steaks or are not managing the rotation in the air dryer for the meat to ensure good supply. Once ordered we waited on the food and when it arrived it was luke warm to the point it could not melt the accompanying Confit Butter, needed the sauce to add some warmth and basically required you to inhale your steak just to have a warm meal. Server noted this but offered no apology just asked if we wanted them reheated...turning medium rare to medium or well done! Would have understood if the kitchen was very busy but at this point could not see any other occupied tables, even the shooting party were still just drinking. At £38 a steak it would have been a better experience and perceived value to have a hot meal that you could saviour. We have all eaten here before and had lovely roast dinners so very disappointed. The value versus price did not match and for a destination for steak, will think again before going back for a nice steak dinner with friends.

We have been lunching at The Lamb for over six years now. After the recent refurbishment we visited yesterday and enjoyed a delicious Sunday lunch. Great service and a very happy atmosphere. Thank you team.

We visited for a Sunday roast. The scallop starter was excellent, but the roast was fabulous with a selection of all meat choices. Only slight criticism was the temperature of the room was slightly chilly, but the hospitality was very warm!

Dinner was, on the whole, a very positive and highly enjoyable, experience. The heating was not working, we asked to move by the open fire, but couldn't. Staff did their best and brought an electric fire. Food was excellent, though the Sabayon was more like...

After reading a glowing review of Sunday lunch here in the Times (and how impossible it was for the reviewer to finish the 'generous' portions) we popped over the day after publication, and sadly, after a (fairly overlong) wait was served a not very warm half plate (at best) of genuine disappointment. We didnt have daft expectations, being fairly easy going (honestly!) but the request for feedback motivated me to follow up where I would've otherwise left it to the 'oh well' nevermind file. I have no idea if the reviewer had mixed up notes with Lore of the Land pub in that London, or a.n. other more proficient kitchen closer by (we live in Wiltshire btw), but I've never eaten anywhere where the reality was so substantially disconnected from the media write up. On the plus side, kind staff and much better decor than its previous tartaneverywhere incarnation, but I can't believe a food centric pub with this many covers can get away with only 2 actual toilets - for the whole place?! The queue during a v. quiet part of Sunday mid afternoon for same summed things up rather. Ho hum.

Sunday lunch for 6 of us. Absolutely lovely atmosphere, so relaxed, staff friendly, no rushing. Ordered various roasts - the potatoes were crispy and we all cleared our plates. Eton mess for dessert and coffee. I chose the Fox and hounds because it was equidistant for me and my siblings but it was well worth the hour’s drive!!

We enjoyed an absolutely mouthwatering freshly cooked veggie roast at this super cute cosy pub in the enchanting little village of Lacock. Thanks to the fab staff for accommodating us without a booking on a busy Sunday! We’ll definitely return - fab experience.

I often spontaneously visit pubs/restaurants that catch my eye, hoping it matches my expectations. I passed by the Pelican Inn and decided to give it a try… I wasn’t let down, I have only positive things to say. Really nice building, friendly staff, decent ambience - an overall enjoyable experience had. I’d certainly visit again if I’m ever in the area.
