Lovely food and good atmosphere with friendly helpful staff

Stopped overnight with our Motorhome. Very welcoming and had a nice meal. Only complaint being they closed at 6pm (on a Sunday admittedly) - shame as there aren’t any other pubs in the near vicinity.

The best steak dinner I have had for a long time. The steak was cooked to perfection as was the rest of the meal. My compliments to the chef.

Came here 3 years ago, was treated great then. Now I work in the area it's became my local of sorts. Friendly staff, good beer, and good traditional pub style food. Need to try out one of the roasts I think.

Stopped in at this pub for the first time today for their Easter Sunday event. Loved the little event that was on but have to say the service was poor. To have 1 person on the bar when running an Easter Sunday event seems a little ludicrous to be honest. We then managed to get in for a Sunday Roast which was brilliant - appreciate that they were fully booked and we filled a table reservation that didn’t show up. We ordered 1 x Beef and 1 x Beef and Lamb which obviously came with an additional fee. On receiving our meals the server confirmed she’d brought out 2 beef, when we let her know that 1 should be beef and lamb she just said she didn’t know what to do and went. After we’d finished our meals a different server took our plates and asked if our food was okay so I let her know that my partner didn’t get his beef and lamb that he paid an additional fee for. She was quite abrupt and insisted that she was there when the food was plated up and that it was beef and lamb which it definitely wasn’t. The service was just quite disappointing really and we won’t be returning.

Second time of being here for roast dinner. One of the best roasts i have had, came out hot and big portions, staff were very attentive and nothing was too much trouble - will be returning for another roast and try other food from the menu.

Affordable food a drinks, many options, but it was a bit dark and the tables were not very clean

Stayed overnight in room one, a triple room, unfortunately no ensuite! Large enough room but only a shower and a sink. The first impression of the room was OK, the curtains were drawn and the room was dark, early evening. We were very disappointed the room was not ensuite. The double bed was very uncomfortable. Not much sleep was had. When we opened the curtains in the morning, we were horrified at the state of the windows! The large crack on the wall and the massive cobwebs and damp patches in the room. The shower was pathetic, very weak, and the water was either boiling hot or freezing cold. We paid £100 for this Room! Definitely would not stay again!!. Didn't have food, drink was OK, not enough staff on for the party we were attending and normal bar. One member of staff was lovely the rest obviously not happy in their job.

Very friendly service and lovely hot food, on hot plates, which is always a plus for me. Definitely will go again. Lovely roast with lots of meat. The Sticky toffee pudding was gorgeous.

Went for Sunday lunch with my partner & mother in law. I had beef. Mother had chicken & partner had schnitzel. The food was beautiful. Couldn’t fault it. Lisa who cooked the meal was absolutely lovely. Her daughter Kelsey who is the bar manager was too. Both were lovely, very nice to talk to.. We will definitely be going back. Go along & try the food. Dog friendly too.Definitely 5stars from us.

Stayed 4 nights whilst visiting the UK to see my sister who lived 200m away so was very convenient. However, the single bed room definitely was not worth the 85/night - the mattress on the bed was so floppy, the fitted bottom sheet kept coming off during the night. The bed was almost falling to pieces, I was not comfortable moving it to try rectify the bedding situation! No room service. You would be far better paying the same amount of money to stay at The George in Amesbury which is only 4 miles away for FAR BETTER return on your well earned cash!! Cannot comment on anything else as I just needed a bed to sleep on.

Avoid. Looks like it’s run by kids. Food is disgusting can do better at home. Re heated, dry and no taste. Looks like the staff are there just for a good time if I’m honest. Not very professional. It’s a shame as could be a little gem if it had the right staff running it. Better food and service at the Stonehenge just up the road.

Took my 73 year old mum for a Birthday lunch. Food was fresh and reasonably priced, they were helpful as she has dementia and allowed us a quiet area to the rear of the pub. Was a family mother and daughter team. Apparently the quiz night on Wednesday is very popular. They have the sports channels for the footy and rugby. Spot on

We called in to this pub and found a little gem, really good food and beer and at reasonable prices. We will definitely be back again soon.

Service very poor, meal was awful waited an hour for meal. Very noisy, male toilets were disgusting.

Food was terrible. Ordered a chicken salad but they ran out of salad and the nachos was just like a plate of crisps with cheese on and a selection of dips and jalapeños

We had a lovely lunch outside in the garden- we were going to have one of the highly recommended (by friends) roast dinners - however the weather is too hot for one! We ate basket meals and fish and chips. The portions were generous and ample, the food was nice and freshly cooked - couldn’t complain they were lovely. Lovely English pub dog friendly - which is great, the barmaid also gave our dogs a treat! Thank you!

Ordered a chicken, bacon and bbq baguette and what I got was 2x chicken wafer, bacon bbq petit pain . The bacon was thicker than the chicken. Would not order this again by any means

I came to the area to see some family and we came to this pub. When we entered, we were greeted by the lovely staff. We ordered our food which came really quickly and the food was incredible, absolute credit to the chef! Drinks were reasonably priced and bar staff were pleasant and rather funny! We came here on a Wednesday when the quiz was on and we had a GREAT time! The hosts were excellent and also hilarious. I will definitely be coming back to this pub when I am next in this area, I really could not recommend enough!

Absolutely fantastic experience, went to their quiz night on 26/7/23 and all I can say is how much praise this place deserves, the quizzes were really fun, the drinks were absolutely amazing and the staff were incredible! Would give a 10/10 if I could

A blind man on a galloping horse could organise a quicker quiz (and get their answers correct). Grossly inefficient, poor bar and food service. Rude quizmaster when answers were challenged.

Our favourite pub, been coming to the quiz for over a year and don’t miss it. The couple that write them make sure they are different every week, changing up the rounds to keep us entertained. The bar staff are so friendly and always happy to help where they can. The food is also great, my favourite being the steak!! Everything is cooked fresh to order and I have never had a bad meal.

For the price bracket it did what it said on the tin and was a lovely plate of fish & chips! Kitchen and front of house where lovely, sorry for my early arrival, always a pain when the punters are at the door early 😬 Missed you Lisa I’ll try and catch up with you another day. Best, Rob

Visited with a group for some afternoon drinks last weekend. Beer was good, was priced well & the staff were friendly and approachable! 👍 Nice, clean & well presented Bar. Didn't have food, but looked banging!👌 TVs and pool table. And beer garden all with good seating 👍 Been a while since I've last been in there, as its changed hands a couple of times in recent years. But the current custodians in my opinion are doing a cracking job 👍 Definitely will make an effort to visit more with what I saw & experienced✌️ Quiz nights Wednesdays 👍 and recently started Kareoke, although I have yet to attend 🙃 at the relief of current patrons... Look forward to visiting again soon! 😀

Room 3..bed base was capsized. Definitely not worth £100 per night. Inn in dire need of a clean up. Seemed to be a working man's pub so bit noisy. Food good

I held my Retirement/Birthday party at The Rose & Crown Bulford in their huge garden. The Management team (Kelsey, Lisa & Katrina) and I had a couple of meetings to discuss my event. All angles covered, I and my 65 guests arrived to a very warm welcome. Garden looked great and the area for the buffet and the artistes was all set up exactly as we'd discussed. The buffet was absolutely magnificent and I thank the R&C management and staff for all their efforts. Everybody had a wonderful evening, dancing chatting eating and of course a few wee drinkies! I'd totally recommend The Rose & Crown - they truly look after you. Thank you all so very much.

Stayed here overnight on a Saturday night, the staff were absolutely happy to help with any issues we had, the food was absolutely to die for and was served quickly and on time and we ended the night with a couple of drinks in the bar where the atmosphere was absolutely buzzing. 5 stars would absolutely recommend

Recently moved to the area and was looking for a good local pub. The staff are miserable, then I asked for the menu to be told the kitchen was closed. To only find out the family that came in after us ordered food and it was made. I then asked again, to be told it’s now closed. Disgusting behaviour, such a shame. Won’t visit again. Mark and avoid.

Most disappointing food ever, nearly inedible. Reheated at its worst. As for the prices, kiddies meal; 2 fish fingers, some chip s and garden peas £7. Never again. Not recommended.

We booked a table for an evening meal, on arrival we were informed that no booking existed and that they had no chef. We went to Wetherspoons in Amesbury and had a very satisfactory evening.

We had booked a table for 8 for the Friday of BH weekend. On arrival we headed for the bar and were told the bar was closed as they needed to restock. We explained we had a table booked and they looked surprised but did show us to a table. We eventually managed to order drinks at the bar however when we went up to order food we were told that they didn’t have any food. The list of what they didn’t have was extensive so we decided to leave. No apologies. We had walked over from amesbury and now needed to get back there to find something to eat. I’d never been to the rose and crown before but has been told the food was good so decided to try it. Never again. Why let us sit down and order drinks knowing they had no food. Would it not have been better to call us before we arrived or at least tell us when we arrived they had no food. I can’t understand how they were surprised that the Friday of a BH weekend, half-term and sunny would be busy. What s shambles!

We stopped for lunch and we’re blown away by the friendliness of the staff. We ordered meals which were large and fresh. Real mashed potato and Swede. A lovely steak and kidney pudding made from suet . The meals were served quickly and nothing was too much trouble. The place is run by a mother and her two daughters. The mother is the chef who came to talk to us. We had a good chat and a laugh and she hugged me and wished me safe travels when we were leaving. I have never come across such warm and friendly people. The pub has accomodation and is quite busy so make sure you book. If we travel that way again we will definitely stop and enjoy the hospitality

I stayed here the night before my wedding. I simply cannot fault anything, the room was spotless, warm and comfortable, the food was excellent and fairly priced and the bar service was impressive. I highly recommend the Rose and Crown.

Sub par experience start to finish Stayed in the hotel for 1 evening on a passing trip. The hotel rooms while far from dirty, we're definitely not clean. Seemed like it was just a routine wipe down between clients. Rubbish under beds, poorly cleaned bathroom, dust bunnies everywhere Horrendously cold. We were not the only people to have to complain about the temperature of the rooms 5 rooms in total upstairs and you all share the same toilet at the end of a very cold corridor. Separate showers and sinks, but 1 toilet for all residents that night. Bar was lovely, good staff, polite, prompt service Stayed for food. What a poor choice. Food was expensive, appeared and tasted store bought and fresh from frozen. The food from the fish down to the bottled ketchup was just cheap cheap cheap but with a big mark up. Didn't stay for desserts due to risk of further disappointment Gets to nearly 10pm at night Fire alarm. Full 30-40 seconds of alarm followed by a weak apology and 'false alarm', nothing more. Overall Pub great Food OK Hotel terrible. Wouldn't recommend it at all

Visited for the first time and unlikely to return. Food orders wrong, drink orders wrong, staff were rude. No toilet rolls, no hand soap, no hand sanitiser. Such a shame as I’d heard good things about the new management and team.

Lovely little place, nice staff and super dog friendly. I can only comment on the vegetarian options, but we had the most amazing nut roast here, definitely would recommend! We’ll be back 😊

We met here for supper just after the new people took over and had a fabulous meal with very friendly and attentive staff taking great care of us. The pub was quiet tho once word gets around about the new management am sure it will get more busy! The beef burger was delicious with added bacon and salad, the vegetarian fish pie was a real hit and my meal was delicious. Definitely a step above normal pub grub. Reasonably priced too. The dog was welcomed and given biscuits. A great place to eat for us all.

I only live around the corner but not been in there for years. It’s under new management now so as I know them, I took my mum & youngest daughter in there for lunch on Mother’s Day. We were greeted with beaming smiles, the patrons already in there were all having a laugh & the happy atmosphere hit you as soon as you walked in the door. We were sat in the snug for our lunch & can honestly say that it was the best I’ve had in a long time, meat & veg all cooked perfectly & was hot. Oh & the apple & blackberry crumble…yum yum yum. Lisa, Kelsey & team…you’ve done a great job & will definitely be back for more soon xxx

Just popped in for a coffee. Didn't stay here but it was quite cold inside. Nice pool table though and the locals seem happy. Coffee was awful, machine made from a pod or similar I suspect. Staff was hanging in there, trying to be nice.

Having visited for the first time some months ago we now go fairly regularly to eat and have a good pint. Well worth a visit if you're in the area, just for a drink or a pie/steak/schnitzel. Service with a smile and a treat for visiting pups 🐶. 😋 🙂 🍻 Back to this welcoming hostelry after being away for a while. Lovely to see the cheerful staff again led by a v good manager. Good beer and food as expected. 💖

A massive thankyou to the Family and staff at the Rose and crown ! I arrived on business in the local area to then find this beautiful country pub, as I walked through the door I was greater by a family that included there customers straight away and made you feel as if you where home and everything was okay now. Being sat by the open fire was so peaceful and with some luck it snowed ! I felt as if I was in a Beatrix Potter book. The food was spectacular, the Quiz was really well run and toom was superb. Thank-you Rose and crown I will be back for my holidays x

Popped in today 07/03/23 for lunch and to welcome The Haig family who are the new Management team. Sadly, after an incredibly busy 1st few days, they hadn't planned on Serving lunches today. However, they pulled out all the stops to ensure we were fed and watered! Absolutely brilliant customer service. They are very customer focused, and do their utmost to satisfy! Food was delicious, thank you. They have some exciting plans going forward, I wish the family well and will endeavour to support them in their new venture. Looking forward to my next visit. Pop it on your list folks!

Popped to the pub for a drink after an afternoon Karting at Thruxton. Initially, when asking for food, the kitchen had just finished, which TBH I didn't mind. They'd been cooked all day. Luckily, the owner, unknowing to is spoke to the chef and opened the kitchen again for us. 😊 now that's service!! Old school Burger and chips in a basket BRILLIANT but the Burger was amazing. First time visiting The Rose & Crown in Bulford and it was Fantastic, Family Friendly with Football. It was a Sunday afternoon after Football and we were looking for a place close to home to watch a Premier League game before dropping the boys off. When we walked and were welcomed by the bar staff and extremely well looked after, the game was put on and the pool table made available to us. The boys loved the afternoon soo much we will be returning for our evening meal soon. We were made aware of new management and wish you all the best, certainly a place I will be happy to return to. Had our 1st visit here last night since being under NEW MANAGEMENT wow what a difference. Such a lovely relaxed atmosphere. Food was lovely. Hearing from the new team and what they have planned, once again this lovely pub will be a thriving hub in the village. Well done ladies

I would go firstly like to congratulate the New proprietors Lisa & Katrina of the Rose & Crown in Bulford & wish them all the luck in the world on their new venture. Myself & my partner came for for on Saturday for food & drinks and the warm welcome was lovely. Food & Service was top notch and has a real family feel as Mum is in the kitchen and definitely know’s how to cook. They have now reintroduced table service which give you the chance to ask questions & have banter with the staff before ordering. Nothing is to much trouble with these guys and we both thoroughly enjoyed our starters main & dessert. Under the new ownership it’s a great family pub for both small or large groups and we will mostly be visiting again soon. Rose & Ade

Just arrived at the Rose and crown as a friend of mine moved near by, OMG what a lovely greeting I got after a long drive from Folkestone. The atmosphere was lovely good food, great music and the staff were amazing it's a new venture for the Haigh family I wish them all the luck for a their new plans xxx💯

Thank goodness for new management. Never seen a Cnut on wheels till we met famous land lady. I am absolutely glad it’s been taken over. Zero rates should be allowed. *This review is based on a terrible experience from dec 2022 2018 Over priced and run down. Might as well go into Amesbury high street. Coke £3.80 really?????? Best answer was sugar tax. Save your time go to the bell.

A really nice and cosy village pub let down by the sour faced landlady who seems to be constantly under the influence . Food is good value and Tuesday nights come to life with quiz night creating a full house.NOT ANYMORE. A fantastic couple put together a great quiz but get nothing but criticism from the landlady to the point they have now given up giving g their free time with no thanks.if not for quiz the place will be empty now.such a shame so many customers also been driven away by the frosty reception the landlady shows.

She integrates stupid rules with no rhyme or reason such as not being able to stand at a tall table, she shouts across the bar at people and always puts a dampener on the evening. All of the bar stuff are lovely, except for her. l've never once seen her smile or welcome a customer nicely, she always has a face on and is always grumpy and toxic no matter what. Absolutely appalling service from her and not behaviours or attitudes of that of a landlady. We will not be returning here unless new management is put in place of someone who actually knows how to run a pub decently with a nice atmosphere, and knows how to speak with and greet her regular customers. Note she apparently "prioritises" walk ins over bookings - we had forgotten to book a table for one quiz night and turned up where there were 4 tables available. We were unable to sit at any of them in case they had "walk ins" Absolutely unbelievable and genuinely don't understand how she is still in a position of running a pub. It's a great shame as the pub is lovely and nice to go to for a few drinks with friends.

Manager is absolutely appalling. Drunk at the end of the bar. Constantly rude to her staff and guests. Never been in a pub where I felt so unwelcome. But the manager is vile. I would like to add that the quiz on a Tuesday is amazing but she has ruined it for everyone.

We've been going to the Rose and Crown for just over a year every Tuesday for the quiz night and what a fantastic quiz it is every week there's something for everybody and the food is bang on Lisa is a great chef BUT the landlady SALLY is absolutely disgusting and rude she's upset the pub goers and quiz master too many times she's rude and a drunk and has gone too far and now the quiz master has pulled out and she's lost all her custom on a Tuesday night

The lady was so rude. We arrived slightly early and she was shoving my 85 year old mum who uses a walking stick out of the way of the door. The way she spoke to us was so rude. How is she working in customer service?? This place needs new staff.

Visit every week for the Tuesday pub quiz ran by Carina Hannigan an independent quiz master. The quizzes are great. Food is good but a little expensive in my opinion and the drinks also expensive. A pint of lime and soda for £3.00 is ridiculous.

I've never met such a hostile, angry owner as I did today, and my goodness do I wish I'd read the reviews before we booked. Should have got a clue when the bar was empty on a friday. Through a huge misunderstanding our booking was cancelled and there was no apology, or remorse from this woman. I'd like to clarify, to help you in the future, when you take a deposit of £80 at £10 per person, assume 8 people are coming. If 1 person can not make it, it's still a deposit of £80 but only 7 people, you do not need the numbers, you assume 7 guests as that is what the deposit is for, your kitchen prepare for 7, do not cancel the booking. Please look elsewhere for a night out and save the upset.
