We enjoyed an absolutely mouthwatering freshly cooked veggie roast at this super cute cosy pub in the enchanting little village of Lacock. Thanks to the fab staff for accommodating us without a booking on a busy Sunday! We’ll definitely return - fab experience.

Really nice location, The pub it self was very enchanting as you walked in, it gives you a oldie worldly vibes. The team was so warm and welcoming from start to finish. Special shout out to libbie Nothing wasn’t too trouble. As we checked in the pub was packed with tourists and she still came to greet us with a smile and showed us to our room. Overall well done guys, you all should be proud as you all do a great job.

We live local and have visited here many times and the food has always been good. Today it was not, the roast dinner we were served was not nice, tough meat, hard potatoes and strange tasting veg. We were not happy so spoke to a waitress, the waitress got somebody else to speak to us. We were asked if we would let the chef cook us a better roast meal! We said if the chef can cook a better roast why were we not served a better meal. We declined, had hardly touched the meal and they generously took the meal off our bill. We were made to feel like we should be satisfied with their resolve, no we were not. It's a real shame when establishments don't keep check on what is leaving the kitchen. As we were leaving, we noticed many plates with a lot of food left.

The vegan options are many - a delightful change for me and my animal loving ways! The vegan cake I had was super tasty. The pub was very busy. The staff seemed distracted and frenetic trying to keep up with all the orders and customers. The food service was speedy and efficient. One particular member of staff called Katie took the time to have a chat with me, and she made my time in Lacock all the more pleasant. It must be hard for the staff to stay motivated during such busy times in a popular tourist location. Thank you Katie, for finding the energy to go above and beyond. The Red Lion, I was very pleasantly surprised. The room is at the top of the pub but there was no noise, ours was right where the hanging Red Lion sign was. Very spacious and clean room, with all the comforts. The bathroom is large, with a shower. They made the room. You enter through the pub, the staff is super attentive. Breakfast with many varieties of dishes that are prepared on the spot: pancakes, eggs benedict, avocado toast, all delicious. There was also some fruit, cereal and juice. We had dinner one day in the pub and the food was also very good. We parked the car in the parking lot, which is very large, but fills up with people visiting the town. I recommend it 100%.

Have just got home after popping in here at 2pm for something to eat. The pub was not full but were told only available tables were outside. When we went out, loads of tables available but all were piled with empty plates and glasses, found one that did not involve too much clearing to another table. My partner ordered food and bought our drinks out on a tray but while trying to open the door to come out a pint of Guinness went over. He went back and explained what had happened but was made to pay for another! If pubs are to continue serving vast amount of customers outdoors, they need to ensure that those customers have the same level of service as indoor customers, after all, we are paying the same. The food that we ordered was very nice but should we frequent again we will insist that our drinks are bought out to us. While we were there every customer that came to an outside table had to clear it first.

Last Wednesday together with two friends we went to the Red Lion for lunch and we really enjoyed the outing. Our friends can be quite persnickety but praised us for our choice of venue. The food was good and service friendly. What we liked is that the menu offered a range of winter warmers and some customers were just having hot chocolate and a large portion of cake. Nice that it is so flexible in the offerings. So today seven of us went for Sunday lunch and again it was excellent. The pub was nicely busy, and service attentive. Satisfactory basic accommodation, if a little overpriced. Popular bar and pleasant food. Our bedroom, although comfortable, was in need of a makeover. The bathroom shower fitting was broken but with a short stay we made do. We were wakened early, 7 ish, by kegs being shifted in the area beneath our window: fair play, it’s a pub. The cooked breakfast was excellent but the intermittent WiFi was a real nuisance. Would we stay here again? Probably not.

I tried this place for Sunday lunch, on a rather rainy day. The impression was suddenly positive, not only because of the charm about the place, but also because I was quite lucky, securing the last table available at that moment. And without a reservation! I had my Sunday roast under the tent in the courtyard, which had something quite poetic under the rain. The roast itself was of rather good quality, especially the Yorkshire pudding. It was not like those very average ones resembling to dry sponges, but a proper one. The beer selection was good too. Besides an IPA from their parent brewery I also had one from Tiny Rebel, a brewery I particularly like. Service was very good too. Definitely a lovely experience.

We asked if we could just have a starter and they said yes, so we both had the cold pie and salad. It was absolutely brilliant, with a layer of cheese through the middle of the pie. More than enough for us at midday. I could see plates of roast dinner passing us for other tables and it looked wonderful! With a cold drink (J20) the lunch came to £8.40. Very good value. I thought hard about this bad review as we have had some good lunches here but our latest visit was a rip off. We paid for our drinks at the bar and then asked for a menu. We were given a full menu and looked at the section labelled Lunch as it was lunchtime! We placed our order at the bar as we couldn’t see another staff member. Our food order was £12.50 each on the lunch menu. We are and food was ok. My husband paid and we left. He then mentioned it cost over £30. I assumed they’d made an error by adding on our already paid for drinks. We returned and apparently because we hadn’t stressed we ordered from the lunch menu they had charged us an extra £5 per meal even though it was exactly the same as the £12.50 meal. We ordered at lunchtime!! Worse still they added on a tip of £3.50 without asking! A total of £38.50 for a £25 meal. Sadly won’t return and will not recommend.

Service is good. Staff are heplful, atmosphere nice. However, the quality of the food is most certainly not proportional to the cost. I had the Trout Pastrami as a starter, it was dry, the teaspoon full of horseradish sauce was so over powering, that instead of complementing the trout it just killed it. All of this was pulled on a dry old piece of soda bread. The side vegetables were tasteless and also dry.
