Came to Lacock on Sunday for a lovely look around the village. He hadn't booked a place to eat and when coming across the Red Lion we asked if they could fit us in and they could. We ordered two roasts, which arrived quickly and PIPING HOT - which is rare when it comes to roasts, they usually come out cold. The amount of beef was incredible and the potatoes... I have never had a pub roast with such fluffy potatoes before. If we come back to Lacock, we will definitely be returning for either another roast or to try some more of your food. Thank you for squeezing us in!

Went for lunch after visiting the abbey which is next door. Lovely outside sitting area on a sunny however the portions were really small for the price tag. The quiche I ordered (photo) was £15 ! I literally looked for the quiche when I got the plate. Smallest portion either, Quiche was lukewarm and so was the salad.... wouldn't recommend it for these reasons. Staff was fine.

Awful service, avoid at all costs Told no roasts left even though we had prebooked (I understand a few things going out of stock but not every single roast on a Sunday ) came for a family birthday, members with a new born baby had travelled three hours to get here, most of us are locals, ordered off the main menu as no roasts just to get plates of defrosted cheap food, no drinks for 45 mins , food took an hour, staff all standing talking - could see them from our table, almost empty inside the entire time we were there, no one cleared plates, checked in on us, we had to ask after another 30mins of finishing to order desserts .. no one else eating at that point, a dessert got dropped on a party member, no apology from the server, luckily not onto one of the babies, Roasts magically appeared from the kitchen for other people eating as we were getting ready to leave apparently these portions had "gotten lost" earlier, toilets and absolute mess bins overflowing onto the floor, ruined a birthday, will absolutely never return again, absolute shambles, should be ashamed.

Called in for an early lunch a couple of weeks ago. Not the cheapest pub but we were happy with our food choices. We were in and out within an hour or so and settled the bill at the till point. Didn’t get a copy of the bill and was just under £80 for the 3 of us. As I was travelling home I thought it was a bit expensive so I checked the website and costed my meal. Still thinking it was too much I e-mailed later that day asking for a copy of my bill, which I got a reply straight away. I realised I had been charged a 10% service charge of £7.20, which I hadn’t seen anywhere on the menu, and a pub at lunchtime didn’t expect a service charge to be added to my bill. I asked for a refund but it all went quiet, so I’ve given you over 2 weeks before leaving a review. It was a shame after a nice experience, but I like to chose what tip I leave, not you.

My wife and I were in Laycock and needed a meal to warm us up on what was a very cold day. We chose carrot and coriander soup together with Kerala salad at The Red Lion. These proved to be excellent choices. The meal, together with coffees arrived very promptly, and we thoroughly enjoyed it all. There was a great atmosphere in the busy pub and we felt we had made a good choice for a light but warming lunch. 12 Feb 2025 John S Newbury UK.

Only eat in the restaurant and the food was really bad! Just a typical tourist trap because of the location, serving low quality food because they know they can get away with it, doubt any locals eat there. Maybe try getting a new chef and totally revamp the place.

I'm giving 3 stars, not because of the food which was really nice when we actually received it, but of the problems with getting it to us and the lack of communication between the bar and restaurant staff. 4 of us went on 28th December and were ushered outside to an area with some heating as inside was full. It was quite cold, around 5 or 6°, and there were no blankets. Luckily I had one in the car, so we got it. My friends from Sweden went to order lunch and pots of tea. 10 minutes later the tea came, but no food which we'd asked specifically to come together. When we asked for them to take the tea away until the food arrived, one girl was quite irritated with us and did so with ill grace. My Swedish friend then went to the bar to ask how long our food would be and was told about 20 minutes. So I stayed at our cold table and the others went to do a wander round Lacock. I said I'd phone if the food came. They returned after 30 minutes and no joy. In all we waited for just under an hour and then my friend complained and said there was another couple at the bar also complaining. After that, they came quickly.... but without the tea which they said we'd already had! It did get sorted in the end. My gripe is that they should have told us from the outset that there would be a long wait for food and we wouldn't have paid upfront which meant we were forced to stay and wait. This was the last day of our friends' holiday and it would have been nice for all of us to look around Lacock instead of me having to guard our table. I recognised that they were overwhelmed by visitors, but being upfront with customers would just have been the polite thing to do., and I don't appreciate snappiness from staff. When the tea arrived the 2nd time, that person followed and was more friendly, maybe she was just overwhelmed too and it was a pity. I would have given 3.5 stars if allowed and would return again if it wasn't rammed, but it did spoil our outing which was a shame.

Boxing Day scavenger hunt, we paid over £50 for a few sides of chips and drinks before paying £2 heading out on the scavenger hunt, when our 6 year old completed the answers we returned to be met with attitude and rudeness and told 3 answers were wrong, 2 of the alleged ‘wrong’ answers were not wrong as the questions were ‘how many windows are on the front of the pub’ to be told ‘yeah but the toilets ones don’t count’ and the other was ‘what colour is a bench’ it was brown and worn and we were told ‘it’s green actually’ it may have been green years ago but certainly not now! And the final question was worded so poorly and in accurately that we couldn’t find what we were supposed to be looking for! After all that to rudely dismiss a 6 year old who was looking forward to a hot chocolate for completing the hunt is shocking! This is a festive family activity and it really put a damper on the ending, their loss as while the little one would’ve had the hot chocolate we would’ve ordered a round of drinks for the adults… poor customer service!

We live local and have visited here many times and the food has always been good. Today it was not, the roast dinner we were served was not nice, tough meat, hard potatoes and strange tasting veg. We were not happy so spoke to a waitress, the waitress got somebody else to speak to us. We were asked if we would let the chef cook us a better roast meal! We said if the chef can cook a better roast why were we not served a better meal. We declined, had hardly touched the meal and they generously took the meal off our bill. We were made to feel like we should be satisfied with their resolve, no we were not. It's a real shame when establishments don't keep check on what is leaving the kitchen. As we were leaving, we noticed many plates with a lot of food left.

Staying in Melksham for a few days so thought I'd get some food as it is advertised, pretty good pub for youngsters pool galore! Alas, they don't serve food so the co-op for me tonight ☹️

Delightful country pub. We met the owner and he was a lovely genuine man. Fish and chips was superb, and beer was perfection!
