Cafe Grounded in Wiltshire

A very mixed experience. When we arrived, we sat upstairs, then when we went to order food (no table service) we were informed that upstairs was now closed - not sure why we couldn't have been informed that on arrival when we asked if we could go upstairs. Food was ordered and it took absolutely ages to arrive. There was one other table that had ordered food, so not particularly busy. The other table received all but one of their ordered pizzas. The last one arrived when most of the pizzas were at least half eaten. This was the same theme with our food. After waiting at least an hour (we offered a complimentary round of drinks due to the extensive waiting time), our order arrived in dribs and drabs. This included a burger arriving with no sides on it - no fries or coleslaw whilst coleslaw was placed on the vegan plate. The food was tasty but definitely not worth the long wait. Not sure I would revisit.

Fantastic, friendly and helpful cafe, with great food, drinks and service. Whether for a working lunch, an evening drink or coffee and catch up I'd wholehearted recommend.

Very nice food quickly served by a most pleasant young lady. Genuine friendly service along with freshly prepared paninis and overlooking the water makes for avery pleasant repas. Thank you guys

A fantastic meal for date night. The food and service was fantastic. Normally travel to Bath for a night out, but it was here all along. Wide menu, with plenty of lovely choices. Well done Grounded 👏

Have only recently moved to Chippenham and today my friends visited and we decided on Grounded as it's right by the river with plenty of outdoor seating. I chose the fish finger sandwich, my friends a panini and eggs benedict. The food arrived quickly and was delicious and both staff members very friendly and accommodating. Will definitely be returning. Thank you for a great lunch.

Absolutely lovely service, attended a bottomless prosecco evening with some comrades. Fantastic food, loved the Jubel (haven't been able to get this anywhere else!) thank you Francesca and team for a great night! First blind date as a LGBTQ couple looking for a plus 2 (if you know what I mean) and we felt so comfortable and supportive. Thanks again, peace and love. Xoxo

Walked out and went elsewhere as there was no menu to look at what drinks were available, and the only soft drinks were not-standard drinks in a glass bottle, and there was no iced coffee available either

Having recently hired this venue for a private Birthday celebration, I would highly recommend. Not only is it a perfect central location, Francesca and her team could not do enough to relieve the pressure of organising and ensuring that everything ran smoothly. The food provided was lovely, freshly prepared and presented to a high standard. All staff were accommodating and approachable creating a friendly atmosphere. I have received so many fabulous comments from my guests, highly commending the food, venue and how amazing the staff team were. I would have no hesitation in using again for any future function.

Ah, what a delightful dining experience! I ordered a vegan flatbread with vegan chicken, red onion, and avocado—so imagine my excitement when I received a non-vegan flatbread stuffed with salad and goat’s cheese! A bold and creative reinterpretation, really. When I pointed out this minor discrepancy, the chef—who clearly moonlights as a stand-up comedian—cheerfully informed me, “I know, but we haven’t got any vegan chicken.” Oh, well, that’s fine then! Who needs to be told when their order is completely changed, right? Surprises are fun! He then graciously offered, “What else do you want then?” As if I should be grateful for his generosity in allowing me to fix his mistake. I settled for my money back, while my kids enjoyed their meals and I sat there with nothing. Fantastic customer service! To top it all off, the waitress, bless her, presented me with a voucher for a free coffee next time—as if I’d be rushing back for another game of Guess What’s on My Plate! I politely declined. If you’re looking for a place that serves whatever they fancy, ignores dietary requirements, and offers attitude as a side dish, then this is the restaurant for you. Otherwise, save yourself the trouble and eat anywhere else.

The staff were lovely but I'm afraid I got food poisoning from the ham, egg, and chips. It was the only thing I ate yesterday so I couldn't have gotten it from anywhere else. Really quite disappointing. I'm sure this was an honest mistake, and as I said the staff were lovely and really on it, but yeah not going to be rushing back there.

Just had some really tasty food here. Pizza and prawns were delicious and the service was excellent. You should check this place out. Can’t wait for the summer so we can enjoy the outdoor space by the river.

This is a lovely and cosy little cafe with great coffee, brilliant breakfasts and lunchs and a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. It's convenient, right in the centre of the town with a nice view of the river. It's fast become a favourite and we couldn't recommend it enough!

We went to the bottomless evening brunch. Excellent value for money and fabulous service. Everyone was friendly and the place should really be busier for a Friday night as the whole evening was great. People should definitely try this place for a night out in Chippenham.

Very lovely local café/bar. Came in for breakfast and a coffee, enjoyed it so much came back for a drink at lunchtime too. The inside has a very retro feel from the old school music magazine's around the walls of the establishment, and very cosy areas with nice natural lighting and places to have a good chat or cosy up with a book. The manager is a very approachable lady who gave me an insight into the company of how they use mostly local produce to run the establishment. Definitely will be returning for the Chorizo Hash and the caramel oat milk latte, really hit the spot.

Very friendly and accommodating. Allowed us to use a corner of the café for a considerable amount of time and all the staff were friendly throughout our time there. Great food, highly recommend.

We’re regular customers at this lovely local cafe. The staff are very friendly, it’s a great spot to read a book and pass an afternoon! They have a great selection of vegan cakes, particularly recommend the chocolate orange cake!

Love coming here for writing and working! Francesca is so lovely and it's always the perfect atmosphere on a weekday to sit, write, and look out onto the river. Great brunch in Grounded as always 😍 My only slight gripe, is that I can never find marco information for the dishes on their menu. But that’s only because I like to track, the staff & food are stunning! ❤️

It is a great place for coffee and cake and a good outside area for chilling too. The staff are friendly and welcoming. The grounded is an ideal location to meet friends. The beer on tap was good, too. All in all, The Grounded is a great choice to chill with friends

Disgusting!!!! Place had two customers, tables full of dirty plates and glasses with the staff chatting at the bar.. one lady sat eating was about to eat her burger, until she picked it up and noticed all the fat running out of it... think I dodged a bullet

Popped in there for a coffee, ended up staying longer and having lunch, fish finger sandwich was spot on, Atmosphere was great, manager was lovely, made my Hot chocolate very festive! Chef came out and had a chat, what a lovely guy. Will definitely be going back!

We had two breakfasts and one dinner here. The food is exceptional and the service is relaxed and friendly. In our party we had two veggies, two nut allergies and one gluten intolerance and the kitchen staff were helpful and very flexible. Once we discovered it, we didn’t go anywhere else.

Excellent hosts , amazing fresh and healthy food options . Really accommodating as we had nut allergy, vegan and gluten free in the party . Nothing was too much trouble with menu customised to needs. So good we came back the next day for more😌 Please open one in Cheltenham

We visit here a lot and are always met with friendly service. Today however was very different... When I ordered I asked for my eggs to be cooked well done and was met with a roll of the eyes by the server who clearly did not want to be there. This wasn't passed to the chef as they were not well cooked. She was also clearly bitching about other customers to her colleague. We will reconsider this as our pla ce to go place for a weekend brunch.. or at the very least check out who is working before we sit down. Very disappointed today 😔

Lovely place to have coffee and a snack

I ordered The Real Greek Shawarma, unfortunately whoever made the menu doesn't seem to understand what Shawarma means because there was no Shawarma in it, only a bit of the cook's hair! When I explained to the waitress that there is no Shawarma in my Shawarma she somehow came to the conclusion that i was in the wrong and got exactly what i ordered. If you're going to have a salad and feta wrap maybe don't put it under Shawarma in the menu if it doesn't have shawarma in it...?

I must have caught the bar server on a bad day. Went in to meet some friends on a Monday morning. The server was rude, hostile and customers seemed to inconvenience him. He tried to ignore me for a while until he looked up. I asked if they were serving coffee and he just huffed and said “Yuh”. We went upstairs and the music was so loud we couldn’t hear each other talk, but no one wanted to go back down to speak to the aggressive server. We won’t be going back. We had one coffee then went across to Rivo lounge.

Just been for lunch with family today, other half absolutely loved his maple bacon burger and I loved my fish finger sandwich which was beautifully cooked. Have eaten here a few times and never been disappointed. The quality of the food is superb, the staff are really personable and a lovely manager Francesca. This is definitely my go to place to eat.

Had a meal for two, food was stunning the maple burger was a dream and sat looking out over the river chatting to a couple sipping their spritz. Service was fast, friendly and very efficient, will be coming back and would recommend.

Beautiful place with a quirky style. You can figure out it's dog friendly without even having to ask the staff, owing to their cool dog pictures that are dotted around inside. Beautiful outdoor seating area that over looks the water, with lovely trees that gracefully bend towards the coffee tables

I would never recommend this restaurant. Waiting 40 minutes for a simple breakfast or coffee is not normal at all. They only serve one egg for breakfast, which is not fair at all for a £12 portion. One person is working, and this person is acting as the cleaner, barista, waiter, and cashier all at once. This is neither hygienic nor humane. The same person might also be preparing the food in the kitchen! Although it looks nice from the outside, it should definitely be avoided until the number of staff is increased.

I can't say I've ever had a bad experience here and we have been a few times now. Really enjoying the new menu and the quality (and portion quantity) are always amazing! Really friendly manager who took a genuine interest in us, nothing was too much trouble for her. Looking forward to our next visit, thanks Grounded team!

Had a great brunch here today. Food and service were fab. Despite being busy, we didn’t have to wait long. And they looked after my car keys all day after I accidentally left them on the table.

Lovely location by the river, wonderful brunch options with top quality ingredients and a great front of house manager. Would recommend and happily visit again.

Staff turn over is mad you never see the same people from one week to the next, which is probably the reason for all the confusion, if you have a loyalty card how many stamps do you get? It changes ever week, is it dog friendly yes one week next week no dogs up stairs? Food is hit and miss you order and then are told sorry we don’t have that, are not flexible what’s on the menu is all we do? Next time we visit all change again? What is going on? Had a fantastic service today very accommodating just not in Grounded

Terrible experience food came and the potatoes on the salmon salad were rock hard!! We sent them back & the plates were returned however they kept the same salmon fillets warm as they cooked the potatoes!!!!! Would not recommend at all zero atmosphere & ran out of the wine we were drinking!!!

It’s a very nice place and has good aesthetic, the manager is very friendly and the coffee was made very well and had plenty of syrup in which I don’t find with other cafes. Must go to spot!

I've walked by this place many times. I'm glad I decided to go in! The food was delicious and reasonably priced. The service was friendly and quick. I love decorations inside too. Will definitely be back.

Best espresso martini I’ve ever had, not exaggerating. The lovely manager mentioned a hazelnut espresso martini so we tried it and wowee, delicious! Venue has great seating too.

Could be a nice cafe but quality didn’t quite deliver. The breakfast wasn’t the best and a hair in the eggs didn’t really give much confidence. Coffees were lukewarm when arrived. Plenty of inside and outside seating though, good for larger groups. Wouldn’t go back in a hurry.

The stars are for Francesca the new manager because she has the personality to make this place what it deserves to be in the heart of Chippenham. Please (management) give her everything she needs to make this place a roaring success as she has the perfect personality and is extremely welcoming and kind.

I visit Grounded fairly frequently for coffee and sometimes food. I've always felt very comfortable and happy there. The coffee is lovely, and I often find myself sitting for a while when I have breakfast, enjoying the atmosphere. Its a comfortable space and invites me to stay for 'just another cup'. Especially if I am sitting outside beside the river, or by the window in the winged armchairs. Recently, I have really enjoyed chatting with the manager, Francesca. She is really friendly and accommodating, as well as being lovely to talk to. I like Grounded.

This was a lovely breakfast. Good quality, generous portions and well cooked. The atmosphere was calm. And relaxing. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and the manager was lovely and took an interest in our experience and was very personable. Can't wait to try the new menu.

Nice decor, a lovely place to stop in for breakfast. Went on a Thursday and had the pancake stack and my partner had the epic breakfast- no issues and everything was delicious!

Came to Grounded for a private party tonight. They were absolutely brilliant hosts - the music was boss, cocktails fabulous and the prices left us smiling. It should be packed every night - I live in Liverpool but I'll be sure to visit next time I'm down. Thanks Grounded Team x

What a wonderful place, just as I remembered it. It has been a few years since I left Chippenham when Grounded was my go to place. A friend's recommendation of the potato and chorizo hash went down so well, tasty and plentiful. Flat white was delicious and well made, with water available for dogs and owners. Shame I live so far away now, highly recommend. You won't be disappointed.

Stopped for breakfast. Arrived before opening time but welcomed in for drinks while waiting. Staff extremely polite and courteous. Nothing too much trouble. Food was excellent. Would recommend to anyone and will return.

Came for a full English breakfast, good quality ingredients. Well priced food and a good cup of tea. Will definitely be coming back

Food was great and nice place, however very short staffed during a day when there competition is closed. Staffing shortage could have been avoided with some foresight. Due to this the service lacked in politeness, cleanliness, and silly mistakes were made. The one member of staff was completely overwhelmed, and it was unfair for her to be left to do everything by herself. I pray she gets some help for the rest of the day.

Hostess was absolutely lovely - however they completely forgot the hash browns for our breakfast, the food was neither disappointing or pleasing it was very average quality and portions

We finally had a chance to try the food, superb. Kani couldn't have been nicer and made us feel so at home. Adapted the meal for my gluten allergy. Dog friendly ❤️

From time of entry to food on table, it took 50 minutes for my Full English to arrive. Maybe it was a one-off, maybe I was unlucky, but I can only judge by the service I received. When you're starting to wonder if it's just best to ask for a refund, it's not a good start. As it is, the food itself was pretty good. The sausage was just okay but everything else was good - the bacon was cooked to perfection. The place itself looks nice and has a good atmosphere.
