Stopped by for fish and chips, the fish was perfectly fried, the chips were tasty and crispy, even the mushy peas were some of my favourite I’ve tasted! Great experience

Came for a drink and a snack around 16:00, so the place was pretty much empty. Bartender was extremely nice and confirmed the kitchen was open! Got ciders and our first ever fish and chips (in England). Delicious! Delicious, and no judgment from staff for sharing (we're light eaters). Great pub near the Roman baths, definitely recommend.

My husband and I stopped off in the Salamander for a spot of lunch and we were not disappointed! We ordered a pork belly bites starter to share which was absolutely delightful, followed by cheese and bacon burgers. The burgers were huge and with a good portion of fries. I asked for mine with no salad and sauce which was delivered as requested. The atmosphere was good - it seemed a few locals and a few professionals having working lunches. We hadn't realised there was a separate sandwich menu, but boy, oh boy! The sandwiches which were coming out on thick doorstop bread looked incredible! I'd like to go back to try their fish finger sandwich!

Great little independent pub. Service and food outstanding. Smaller options on all main meals - highly recommend pork belly bites! You won’t be disappointed

Decent ale/beer selection but highly priced - £7.50 for two halves (one a cask). Lovely staff though.

MUST VISIT! We got the burger and the chowder and both were PHENOMENAL! The wait staff is so kind and the atmosphere is relaxing and fun.

Sunday 13th April 2025 I had a really nice pint of hand pumped ale in this really ale/restaurant today. Good friendly staff on and place where food and drinks are on even keel. This pub does serve good real ales The reason I came specifically today

Looks fine and good service, but way too expensive drinks (£6.60 for a Gem ale) and freezing cold. A shame but there are better places just around the corner

Pequeño pub en una calle lateral en el baño, mi hija me llevó allí para el almuerzo del Domingo de la Madre. Elegimos el plato de menor tamaño y lo disfrutamos mucho. Carne asada y vientre de cerdo, seguido de pudín de té pegajoso de plátano y queso y galletas

Unique pub. Good real ale and welcoming atmosphere.

Good selection of Ales, nothing hazy unfortunately, but a good selection including local ales.

Fab proper pub with great beer selection and very friendly service. So much better than a cookie cutter big chain offering.

I’ve visited the Salamander on several pub crawls as well as sampled their Sunday lunch. Staff are always friendly and service has been good each time. The Sunday roast is delicious, will be back.

Place has a lot of potential but it needs to get its act together and higher more staff or get more competent ones. Food was delicious but everything else really took away from the experience. Ages waiting for our table, ages waiting for the food, asked for additional drinks waiter forget and had to follow up, eventually showed up when had finished the food, then had to go back down stairs to pay which was another 15 minutes.

Estábamos alojados en un hotel a la vuelta de la esquina, pero debido a las amplias renovaciones su restaurante estaba cerrado, así que nos dirigimos a buscar unas buenas bebidas y cenas. A la vuelta de la esquina estaba la salamandra con una gama de cervezas reales, tan amable personal y un menú de pub inglés que proporciona comida de excelente calidad. Mi único problema es que es un pub pequeño y muy popular, así que encontrar espacios para sentarse podría ser un problema. Logramos entrar antes que los miembros del club de lectura la segunda noche que comimos allí.

Ambiente increíble, personal súper amable. Muy amable con los perros, el equipo hizo Lutero muy bienvenido. Comimos en la zona del bar ya que los perros no están permitidos arriba en el restaurante y la comida era deliciosa. Los entrantes del vientre del puerto es una necesidad. El asado de cordero era realmente sabroso y tierno, al igual que todo lo que lo acompañaba. Sin duda recomendaría esto a cualquiera y volvería de nuevo! Gracias a todos los que hicieron nuestra visita realmente agradable!

£16.60 for two pints, absolutely crazy. He did warn me the Erdinger was the most expensive at £8.60, but that does mean the other pint was £8 which is still too much.

Nothing to get overly excited about food wise, infact pretty mediocre putting it bluntly. Real ales ok ish, didn't feel they were kept as well as at one of the other nearby real ale pubs.

The building is very old so a good atmosphere of history seeping out of the walls. Also the first impression you get on entering is one of welcoming and friendliness, We had Sunday roast and it was very good. I also liked the fact that for many/most mains, you can opt for regular or smaller portions (with similarly adjusted prices - great for myself who has a smallish appetite and usually ends up leaving 20% of the food I've paid for. All in all, recommended.

Brilliant food drinks & service. They have a great GF menu and fully understand the needs of Coeliacs. We aee always regular customers when in Bath 10/10

I wish my local was as friendly! Came in on a busy Friday during the Christmas Market and was welcomed warmly. The food was top-notch and the beer well kept. I had the fried chicken which was succulent and tender and my husband had the egg, gammon and chips. Sublime! They did a fantastic pint of Bath Gem! This is a place to return to.

From the moment we arrived the staff were so attentive they couldn’t do enough. We had our two dogs with us and they sat us on a large corner table in the bar area which was perfect. The food was very good and well presented. I can definitely recommend the steaks. They also accommodated the dogs with fish goujons and chips.

We had the most delicious Sunday roast and good value for money. Very friendly staff and felt right at home. Cozy feeling with seating over 3 floors. Thanks for a good experience.

We came into the pub from a very stormy evening outside and were immediately won over by the cosy ambience and very beautiful festive decorations. It was extremely busy but we were happy to stand at the bar and sup our pints and a table became available eventually. The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming, as were all of the customer actually! We decided not to brave the weather and stay for dinner there which was delicious. I had the haddock chowder which was the best I’ve ever had. Great beer, great food, great vibes - would definitely recommend.

What a find this was. So much more than regular pub fare. The staff are really friendly and attentive. The food was fabulous. I had the chowder which was so tasty. It is nice that two different sizes are offered for some dishes, ideal for those with a smaller appetite. We highly recommend.

It’s not often you go to a pub these days where you come away thinking, that was a bit special. The Salamander is just that. We didn’t eat but it was the welcome, service, friendliness and care of the staff that was the differentiator. A bit special! Will be back😊👍

The important thing about a pub, in my opinion, is the quality of the real ale. The Salamander is unfailingly of the highest standard in this regard: the beer is always in superb condition. It isn't cheap - roughly £6 a pint - but I never mind paying a bit more for good beer. On my recent visit I had Proper Job and Gold Rush, both from St Austell, and both sampled with considerable diligence (just to make sure). They were superb, and so is this fabulous little boozer.

Sunday roast here was absolutely amazing! The beef was tender, thick and delicious. Everything tasted so flavourful, like a home cooked meal. Also had the donuts for dessert which were insanely nice. Will defo be coming back😍

Lovely old-style pub with a great selection of beers, great service and excellent food. As a bonus, there's a brilliant bookshop opposite. The ground floor can be quite busy and, if you've mind to, you'll end up talking to the people around you. If that's unappealing there's loads more seating upstairs. The loos are upstairs too. This might not be ideal if you have accessibility issues. The menu was great too, and we had two of the lunch menu sandwiches, which were excellent. The tofu and the fish-finger fillings were lovely, and the bread was super-soft and tasty.

I grabbed the fish and chips here and a half pint of cider and it didn’t disappoint. The fish batter was to die for and I wish there was more aioli as I could have eaten just that for days. The staff were super friendly and helpful. And it’s got that cosy, English pub vibe which I love. Can’t wait to come back here next time I am in Bath.

Nice pub. The food was superb especially the delicious Piccadilly served with the sausage roll. Food wasn’t greasy. The service was smooth and staff was really friendly. I liked the selection of local beers and ciders. Great atmosphere as well!

Outrageous prices. £10.20 for small prosecco and £6.80 for a pint of Thatchers cider. One wonders why Wetherspoons is always full.

Went on a busy Friday evening having booked. Meal was very good and no one in our group of 5 was disappointed. Service was excellent despite the pub being busy.

OMG - This must be one of the best pubs and places to eat in the UK - especially if you are Coeliac or want to eat a gluten free meal. We had three meals at the Salamander whilst staying in Bath and the food, service and friendliness was first-class. Bonnie, the bar lady was caring and helpful, and it was plainly obvious Bonnie really loves her job and takes extraordinary pride in looking after her customers. Being recently diagnosed with Coeliac disease, eating out is a worry, and often compromises must be made, but not at the Salamander. The Landlord's mother is a Coeliac, and so he takes immense pride along with his fantastic chefs to make sure people on a gf diet have a choice of great food. We had two lunchtime bar meals and also went back for Sunday lunch, and at 67, I can admit to having eaten a few Sunday lunches, and I can easily say, that was the best pub Sunday lunch I have eaten - and what was special was the cauliflower cheese was gf. It was great to spend time, eat and drink in a great pub that is so professionally managed, where the customers are so well looked after in every way. Each year we attend the Jane Austen Festival in Bath and next year will be regular visitors to the Salamander for lunches and Sunday dinners. Thank you so much. Hi, we had Sunday lunch as a family in the pub the atmosphere was good staff very friendly just attention to detail wasn’t on par the roast dinner was cold and the key the gravy was which ruined it . Also table service staff came around and ask if any sauces required etc it never turned up. when i highlighted this to the manager he said the feed back was appreciated think staff need to be attentive on when the food is delivered as customers are paying for a premium service maybe they need to check if everything is ok or issues with the food (if Nando’s can do it sure you guys can) is resolved ASAP (if Nando’s can do it sure you guys can)shame as I was looking forward to a good roast hopefully this helps in getting it 100 % right

Perfect place for a pint and a catch up with friends, warmly welcomed with our dogs too who were fussed over and provided with fresh water bowls as soon as we were seated.

We ate upstairs and was less crazy then downstairs. Our service was wonderful, and our food really good. I had fish and chips, and he had the ham egg and chips. Both really good! The pork belly appetizer was perfect. Highly recommend.

Stumbled upon this little pub and went in for lunch. I had the BLT and my partner had the Goat Tacos for the special with us a sharing a portion of fries. Both were absolutely delicious! Would highly recommend. Wonderful service from a barmaid on her own that didn’t stop but paid the same attention to all customers.

Stopped in for a pint with my Granddad. He has mixed feelings regarding the place as it is where he met his now deceased wife 50 years ago. We were greeted warmly by the manager/landlord Jai (I may have spelt that wrong). He spoke to us as if he’d known us his whole life. A truly charming man with all of the characteristic one would ask of a landlord, engaging, friendly and welcoming. We decided to then stay for food. I was dubious at first as nobody in the pub was eating at the time, but GOODNESS GRACIOUS I’m glad we did! Some of the best pub food I’ve had in a long time and to quote my Grandad “the best onion rings I’ve had in my 70 years on this planet”. I would recommend this spot to anyone! An excellent pub in the center of Bath. As well as numerous local beers and ciders, there are other options, including several Spanish ones when we were there, in case anyone is feeling homesick. Special mention deserves the cordial service, the good atmosphere and the quality of the food. The menu is a little small, but everything on it is excellent. So much so that in three days in Bath we went twice, although our favorites are the fried chicken and the brownie. For Spaniards dining late, depending on the day the kitchen closes early, at half past eight.

This place is a hidden gem in Bath. Tucked away near Mr B's book emporium, The Salamander offers hearty food with small and large portions available, which was great for dinner with my grandparents. The spirits collection and beers on tap are great too. The best thing though is the staff; the front of house team here are incredibly personable and attentive. They could honestly be fronting a Michelin restaurant they're so on it across everything. We came here for a Sunday roast with our dog and family and had the best time, and they provided us with a dog bowl and some bits of offcuts from the roasts and were really friendly with our dog. Would definitely recommend!

Slow service, small portions, dirty tables

Best food I had in a two week trip true the south of England. The pork belly starter is absolutely to die for.

It started to rain harder so we ducked in for lunch. Good chunky sandwiches and triple cooked chips. Friendly ,efficient staff. We left sated.

What a fabulous pub! The staff were all so lovely and helpful especially with my dietary requirements. So many gluten free options includes sticky toffee pudding. Particularly want to shout out Jai the manager for being so kind to us and taking care of us when a mistake was made.
