The Locksbrook Inn in Bath and North East Somerset

Went for Sunday lunch and was disappointed, it was served Luke warm and was absolutely swimming in gravy. This is the second disappointing lunch that I have had at The Locksbrook, so may give it a miss for a while.

Had a lovely walk along canal from campsite, was surprised as to how nice this pub is, we had breakfast could fault food, great coffee, a staff helpful an friendly.

This is our local. We booked for a BH treat Sunday lunch. Had a delicious roast lunch, fab, friendly service, great atmosphere.

Volvimos a Locksbrook después de tener una comida encantadora unos días antes. Lamentablemente, el plato que volvimos para, curry de cabra, no estaba disponible. Todos los platos principales que tuvimos, calamar, fish & chips, filete, hamburguesa, tomate y quinoa, estaban deliciosos. Verónica, nuestra camarera, era increíble 100%, un placer. Otras camareras podrían aprender mucho de ella sobre el servicio. No recomendaría brulée, solo probé crema, el azúcar caramelizado en la parte superior era demasiado espeso y duro como lo eran las galletas servidas con él. Toda la experiencia fue una delicia, con unos pocos niggles desafortunados.

Nice pub right next to the canal. Good food and drinks.

We were staying nearby and walked down to the pub. It is a friendly pub on the river and has both inside and outside seating. We started with the salt and pepper squid with us sharing the fish and chips and casserole of fish. All of the food was outstanding tasting great. The service was attentive and friendly. The atmosphere is great for all.

The Locksbrook Inn is a great pub situated by the River in Bath. The food and service is top notch.

Loads of people vamping in no smoking zones and staff just turn a blind eye. Not great for young kids.

*After posting my experience, Susie reached out to me to personally apologise for the behaviour of the one staff member. She explained that the kitchen facilities are limited so pre orders are very important to help organise groups and that there had been an issue with double ordering of one of the group. I would advise getting all the orders of your group before booking more than 12 people to avoid confusion in the future. So I will caveat that this has been my first bad experience at the pub and I give 2 stars as the experience was rectified due to what I assume is a more senior member of staff. I would not recommend the pub for large bookings as I've been told their kitchen cannot process more than around 12 ish orders at the same time. There had been a mistake with the orders where a waitress came over with an extra pizza as part of the prebooking (which I have the email I sent was not included) and when we told her it was not ours and we didn't accept it either she replied with 'well its YOUR mistake so YOU will be charged for it' I then showed her my email and I thought it had been sorted. Go to pay and see another pizza added to my bill and actually didn't realise because when paying the staff member (another person) repeated to me that I was paying for 2 Pizzas and one side which is what I was expecting. But when I look at the receipt I was charged for the extra 'mistake'. There are always issues with group orders and it was reasonably busy that evening so to be charged when we didn't eat (and this has happened maybe once in a few other restaurants over the years) but no one has ever insinuated i was lying? And charged me for something I didn't accept?! It really left a bad taste in my mouth. Someone has said it had changed hands recently so I would really look at retraining or hiring practices because the level of service from one person to another was so different. Kitchen staff and the guy who fixed my order was great 👍

Review of Sunday lunch in January - sorry for the late review! I am allergic to garlic and rang several pubs in Bath to try to get a Sunday roast at lunchtime a few days prior. The Locksbrook Inn was the only one who could serve a meal without garlic!! Everywhere else puts in the gravy, the veggies or the meat and can't make it without it. However, the lovely lady I spoke to (sorry I can't remember her name!) was fantastic and was happy to accommodate me. I ordered the meal the day before and they cooked the chicken without garlic for me and it was all absolutely delicious!! It's so wonderful to be able to have an actual Sunday roast and not have to always have fish & chips in a pub - it seems to be the only meal that doesn't have garlic these days. Thank you Locksbrook Inn - we shall be back! Just one star lost on the atmosphere because it was really quite chilly in there! A bit more heating would be fab please.

Best pub in Bath, 10/10 staff, pleasant and cosy atmosphere with some outstanding food and well poured pints. Be sure to check out the quiz on a Tuesday night at 8pm, Suzy provides great entertainment and it’s a must for my friends every week!

Went for lunch today. Atmosphere is great and waiters are very friendly and polite. However the portions were very small (had burgers-beef as well as veggie) for the price-£15/£18. We also had to wait close to one hour to get our food. I understand that Sunday lunch is a busy time but the management should know this and hence should plan in advance (possibly hire more chefs/staff during busy periods).

Nice pub very busy on warm spring days. Good is brilliant. Beer has variety but not enough dark beer. Great staff.

Great breakfast, served in the sunshine

Really good place to go for Sunday lunch. Big indoor restaurant, very nicely decorated - with equally large outside area along the canal. Food took a little while to arrive (about 25-30 minutes) but it was Sunday lunchtime. Sunday roasts (1 chicken, 1 roast beef) were very tasty. Only observation we both made is that the food wasn’t piping hot, just warm - again this could be down to the Sunday crowds but a bit hotter would have been good ! All in all a very positive experience, will definitely be back

Despite having pre booked a table it wasn’t available when we arrived as it had been given to someone else. We were left standing at the bar while various staff ran around trying to work something out. We were then asked what we wanted to drink and then told it would be added to our tab, still standing waiting for a table but no goodwill gesture! Eventually they told us to find a seat in the bar and they would sort us a table. We were eventually seated at least 15 minutes after our booking and in a table next to the door which kept being left open. The food, when it eventually arrived, was average at best. I had a vegetarian option which had clearly been left to dry out under a heat lamp. Portion sizes were small, one small dish of veg to share between three of us. Food was drowning in gravy which tasted fatty, can’t believe it was vegetarian as it was the same as on the meat dishes (fortunately I am not vegetarian). The bill arrived and they had the audacity to add a 10% service charge despite the long wait for our table and poor quality food. Needless to say we won’t return. Such a shame as before it was taken over by St Austell brewery we have never had bad food there and we have been going for 30 years.

We had Sunday lunch in the bar. Whilst the food was very good, we want to make a particular reference to the staff. We were extremely impressed with their friendly, attentive and efficient service. It is rare to come across such well trained staff and made the whole experience a special pleasure.

Lovely pub on the canal with a big seating area outside (under cover in winter). Dining is in the old skittle alley with nooks & rooms for drinking or events. Offers on food normally around Monday-Thursday. Selection of nice pub fare, pizzas & burgers are good. Friendly staff, good selection of drinks, alcoholic and non-alcoholic. They provide great support for community & family events.

We were a fairly large party booked for a Sunday roast. The staff were amazing and we cannot fault them. The beef was unfortunately quite gristly which made Mose of the portion inedible. The veg was fantastic and just the right amount per person. I would go again but would order something else. The pizza’s looked amazing.

Food was average, sent lukewarm fries and a very average burger. Service was good apart from one member of the team, she really appeared like she didn’t care. The manager was excellent, great sense of humour!

We just enjoyed a fantastic Sunday lunch experience here. Anya and her colleagues did a wonderful job looking after our party of 20 people, ranging from small children to a nonagenarian! The food was delicious, the service was fast and it was good value. Nearly everyone in the party had a different dietary requirement and the team dealt with this brilliantly. All in all a definite 5* performance. Based on our experience you will be in safe hands here for your Sunday lunch. Highly recommended!

Found on Google when looking for somewhere to have breakfast. Food great, staff fabulous and friendly. What a beautiful setting to start your day in, made you forget the grey mizzle outside with the fire burning.

Great food and dog friendly. Lots of seating inside and out. Staff are very friendly. There is a small car park at the front but you can access the pub from the cycle path alongside the river too!

good food, service and atmosphere

I have been here several times before. Today I had Margarita pizza followed by creme brulee. The pizza tasted authentic and delicious and the pudding was very tasty. Being a Wednesday lunchtime it was quiet. I booked Locksbrook because they have booths and I wanted to catch up with an old friend. The highlight of the meal was Oliver, the waiter. He was happy to answer our questions about the food and made helpful suggestions when he found that certain items weren't available. He was funny and polite and endlessly patient when asked to come back several times as we weren't ready to order because we were talking so much. We never felt rushed. I recommend the place for the food but will remember the visit for his first class service. Thank you Oliver!

⭐ Extremely disappointed with my experience at Locksbrook in Bath. Arrived at 3 pm hoping for a Sunday roast, only to be turned away because they were "saving it for evening reservations." Since when do pubs require reservations for a simple Sunday roast? The staff was unapologetic and offered no alternatives. It's baffling that a pub can't manage its food supply properly or accommodate walk-in customers. Poor planning and even worse customer service. Won't be returning, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone looking for a reliable pub experience.

I went today for a family roast. We ordered two roast chicken roasts and a childs burger as there was no children's roast option. Although the food was nice we only had vegetables to share! The roast was £18 and I believe having vegetables on a roast dinner would be standard. On the menu it doesn't say "you will be sharing these vegetables with another meal on the table". I mentioned this to the bar staff and even they have said "it's our number one complaint, I'll pass it onto the kitchen again".

It's a really nice place for food.

Good pub for a pint, large covered garden area, nice pizzas. Some live music randomly outside. The quality of the service varies depending on the waiter. Last dinner, we had a very good waiter taking over after a few miscommunication with person serving us at first. I like the place. A couple of fire places which lovely in the winter if you get the right table for drinks only.

Fantastic Venue for a Staff Christmas Meal! We recently held our staff Christmas meal at this pub, and it was a wonderful experience from start to finish. The food was absolutely delicious—each course was well-prepared and served with care. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, making it the perfect setting for our festive celebration. The staff were friendly and attentive, ensuring that everyone had what they needed and that the event ran smoothly. All in all, everyone had a great time, everyone said it's one of the best Christmas meals we've had in a very long time! I would highly recommend this pub for any group gathering or special occasion.

Nice venue close to city centre. We went during a busy lunch and staff did well to serve us so well. Food was good but some dishes overpriced, particularly the steak which was underwhelming.

Good atmosphere, warm welcome, courteous friendly staff, we enjoyed the food, service was prompt on a busy day - always a great place to spend time with family and friends!

Excellent food and atmosphere for this typical English pub on the edge of the canal with a good outdoor space for the summer and a warm fireplace inside for the cold season. We waited almost an hour and a half for the dishes but it must be said that this is why they offered us dessert. A good gesture

We had a lovely meal - great starters and we all enjoyed our main course. Service was very good and we really enjoyed a relaxing post christmas get together. We will come back.

Formerly a moribund pub, the Dolphin, the transformation and the well thought out extensions some years ago has revolutionised this location. Very popular now, so much so, a cosmetic tlc is a regular requirement. I'm most often there for breakfast. There are multiple options, really - just ask the chef and you'll get it. My favourite is the Breakfast Bap - Almost as filling as an FEB. The staff change regularly, invariably students earning their way. Affable and welcoming, they've clearly had and followed the customer focusing instructions. When the weather is clement, sitting outside is a very pleasant way to drink good ale, eat original snacks and watch the footpath and canal traffic

Wow! What a supper club. The game night menu was absolutely delicious. Every course was enjoyed and every bit finished. The chef is very talented. The rabbit cacciatore was superb. Thank you Theo and team for a wonderful evening.

Held a birthday party here with about 60/70 guests and Theo and the rest of the team were excellent. Easy to organize, super attentive on the night and the space (restaurant area) looked amazing. Food (we put on pizzas) for guests came at the agreed time and was really good. Would highly recommend! Thanks!

Very large pub, some nice comfortable sofas 🛋, log fires 🔥, excellent range of beverages. And dog friendly.

Sunday Roast with my two young boys. Service was excellent and the atmosphere lovely. £22 for roast beef is pricey though and although the quality was high, it was not perfect (undercooked cauliflower) and the amount of beef was on the small side. My boys loved their food, and I was impressed, just not £22 impressed! Total bill with drinks £66

Not as we remembered. No carvery, veg was very sparse, not even your 1 a day portion! I believe the food is over priced plus cheeky service charge for 2 diners! I can now understand how we got a table at late notice.

We waited half an hour for two breakfast but there was only one other table there. By the time it was arrived coffee was drink before it went cold and the fried egg was solid and the rest of it was only warm. Very expensive for the quality and they added a service charge. Most disappointing Won’t go back

Sunday roast was beautifully presented and tasty too! Jessamy and Rhi, our servers, were both efficient friendly & helpful when it came to recommending dishes, as one of our party did not want a Sunday roast. They always came to the table with a smile. Food portions were great for a lunch time visit and the local ale’s went down a treat. Will definitely be back again!!!

Food is great service was poor (veggies turned up 10 mins after our mains), it was Sunday we were hungry and it. It was super annoying, manager offers us our drinks for free (only had soft drinks as we were driving) no not a real discount!

We came across this lovely place as we walked into Bath from our accommodation, first time we had visited Bath so it was nice to stop and have a drink next to the canal, we liked it so much we booked for Sunday dinner and you couldn’t fault it at all, very dog friendly and the food was lovely! Definitely worth a visit

Extremely slow service. When the pub is busy like Saturday night , there should be the right number of staff allocated to avoid big queues. We wanted food but didn't get any because we could not wait in a long queue. Overall the atmosphere is great , they have board games , cozy sitting but the manager needs to make sure to have a back up plan of staff are ill and make sure to be empathetic to the clients rather than expects them to wait to be served for 10 minutes . Improvement is possible . Hope I will see it soon.

Local pub on my doorstep and it's a great place to go. The staff are always helpful, friendly and their customer service is spot on.. That's why we always use these guys as our go to pub.... Supper clubs, quizzes, live entertainment. All washed down with a mix of great food and drink...

Great roast after a long day. Food was good, not amazing, but good. Were did eat at about 18:00 and the only roast they had left was chicken. Our server Theo was super attentive and very welcoming. Would definitely go back again

First time visit, great Pub tucked away down by the river, the weather wasn't so great when we visited but I can imagine when the sun is out it's beautiful outside. The four of us had roast dinners, 2 x beef, 1 x chicken, and 1 x pork, all of which were really good. We would definitely visit again.

Hidden gem, went there randomly to see if they did breakfast on a Sunday. They do, reasonably priced for bath, incredible food, great feeling atmosphere. Bring a date!

Came here for Sunday lunch & dessert. Staff are really welcoming. Food was very tasty and great portion sizes. Lots to choose from on the menu! Desserts was outstanding!! Would highly recommend. Thank you Suzanne for sorting today for us!

We didn't eat on this ocassion but this is a fantastic stop on the canal walk into bath, I would have given 5 stars but unfortunately the rattan furniture table and chairs we sat on had a dangerous metal rod poking out of it, this needs to be addressed before somebody is hurt

A lovely pub with great food. We love the Tuesday quiz night and it has become a regular outing for our family. Lots of fun and good company.

Very friendly place where we had a tasty lunch at a reasonable price & in very nice surroundings. We will certainly be returning when we’re next in Bath. A good selection of dishes at a fair price. The lunchtime pizza deal during the week was an excellent deal. The staff were very friendly & polite too & service was at a nice speed.

Totally ignored by barman who chose to go to couple who arrived after me then promptly left the bar to take them to a table. My partner took my place at the bar while I used the toilet facilities. Came back to find him still waiting at bar waiting to be served bar left unattended the whole time around ten mins from when first standing at bar. Barman returns then says with you in a second and then promptly goes to attend a table leaving us still unserved at the bar. At this point we leave bring ignored once is inexcusable twice is nothing short of rude. Will not be returning even though I have been using this pub under various different owners for over 30 years. If you want to be served promptly and efficiently find a different pub.

We met up with family and friends for Sunday lunch at the Locksbrook Inn. We had a lovely time. Booking was easy online, staff were welcoming, friendly, caring and efficient. We appreciated the dedicated dining room where we could take our dog. Very pleasant surroundings, plenty of space. The food was excellent and plentiful. It was a sunny summer day and the pub was pretty busy, but everything felt unflustered and very well run. I heartily recommend it.
