Best great value quality food and service in hull. Your grub will not be brought to your table faster than anywhere in the world and always boiling hot ,no lukewarm grub here on skillets

People make the place. I have been in here before and met,and had a lovley.conversation with a very nice barmaid and the owner. This time I was gretted by a barmaid who was in mid-conversation with a woman seated on the customer side of the bar. I ordered my drink and was told the price,£6,very high for Hull. The whole process took place against the backdrop of the interaction between the barmaid and the person sitting at the bar. I felt like I was intruding. The bar was empty apart from the aforementioned people. People make place. This place seems to a lottery on what you experience.

Cracking pub in the Old Town area of Hull. Can get quite busy but they do have a decent sized outdoor area too with heaters. Good bar menu for food which was decently priced and good quality/nice. Decent range of drinks too, again reasonably priced. The service was good, very friendly, we had some good chats with the landlord who was a nice friendly guy and told us a little bit about the area. We’ll visit Old Town again and will definitely return here and would recommend it.

Super local pub which oozes character and charm. I haven't been here for some years however it was great to spend time here with colleagues after work last week. We sat outside in the courtyard and there was a great vibe about the place. Staff were lovely and the décor is quirky and fun yet traditional with a modern twist. You have to visit yourself to appreciate it.

Firstly I have to say we have been here many times over the last 20 or so years no complaints until yesterday. After a 45 minute wait for a pulled pork sandwich and some cheesy chips I went to the bar and asked where the food was and should it really take 45 minutes? Almost as soon as I sat down the food was literally dropped onto the ta le with a bang I commented that this was quick and it must have been around for some time. “Not that long” the person abruptly said and walked off the food was cold in parts and at best like warm in others. We were eating, selecting the warmest parts when we had the usual “is everything ok with the food” I replied “no” in a tone that reflected the service to date. The boss arrived and opened the conversation by stating I had been rude to his staff. I then told him what was wrong with the food the response was to snatch it off us and say I’ll give you your money back. Hy wife actually had her fork in the chips when it was snatched. A few moments later he returned with £16 saying “your meal was £15.90 you can keep the 10p”. Rude and totally unprofessional. I hope his boss reads this and speaks appropriately to him. Sorry for the long review.

We were greeted by a calm, friendly labrador that clearly loves the attention he receives. The 3 of us has pies, 2 of us had the beef and blue cheese filling the other had venison. All pies were served in a small enamelled dish, personally I would have preferred a plate as it did mean that everything was piled on top of itself. All were served with mash and a choice of vegetables. The bar staff were knowledgable and there were quite a few groups of people that called in for lunch. They have a good selection of ales and have a 5 star cask marque, which indicates that the beer is well kept. I am sure we will return.

MORE AT Google

This place has been a really great place to relax with a dog. It's not hard to find a pub in Hull but some do food better than others. It's all down to having expenses for ingredients going off when you have to much in stock, versus not having enough to offer the feeling of variety. What the clever establishments do is that they learn to specialise in one or two dishes, and do then to the best of their ability, so they can keep prices reasonable. The Sailmaker Arms have done this to an expert level with the humble Northern Englishman's delicacy that is the oven baked pie 🥧 They have homemade style pies that they may part-bake and/or freeze. The pie is such a simple staple food of the working class. It's also trendy and hipster, especially with the fantastic fulfilling fillings that include seasonal offerings with all the pies sporting interesting cute names. Now there is a reason I use three paragraphs to write about the pies. They are the sort of food that most of us that have lived North of Birmingham know all too well since they are nutritionally balanced and reasonably priced, but have upmarket options. I live with one of those Southern heathens who have not tried pies and who see gravy as a rarity. She will not eat anything with pastry but even she will have a try of these and always enjoyed them. They come with gravy, sweet potato, fries, cheesy chips, mash, peas, broccoli, carrots, and many other traditional options for accoutrements to the pie. Coupled with a reasonably priced pint and a selection of decent enough ales, and a layout that allows privacy for intimate dining, as well as large gatherings. The place also offers a massive function room upstairs that can be hired as needed. There are simpler snacks like crisps and that little extra of chocolate bars and pot noodle, nuts and pretzels. The menus changes summer to winter to summer. Ice cream in slightly too small tubs were good enough to make me happy. I'm a "whole 400g tub to be happy" man but I would buy three of the little 150g to get me there. Small farm style carried on the theme of supporting local businesses. Staff are warm and pleasant enough to talk to everyone without being awkward - which is a good skill when you are a young person in a place that attracts drunks now and then. Here's the bad news: they don't have a good feedback system. The two times I have had something go wrong, they have gone and done the worst thing anyone in customer service can do: they deny that the issue is valid. First occasion was when my beloved ice cream was noted to have lots of ice crystals on the inside not just the outside. They actually tried to tell me that this was normal and then they said that they had never had any complaints before. I ended up walking away after an awkward silence instead of what good customer service would do which is treat the customer as always right (since they are paying and not all complaints are made by narcissistic people or Karen's / Kevin's of this world making unreasonable demands to get some free food) and because the value is in keeping your customer happy so they not only return to spend more money, but so they speak highly and tell you the issue rather than taking it online. This stuff is basic for the likes of me who travelled throughout the country especially around London. They would not dream of arguing with the customer. My friend was actually a manager at McDonald's and they have respect for all complaints even when they seem slightly excessive or fraudulent. It's why they have their doors bursting. Anyways that's the rant I have built up for months since this happened. It stopped me going daily and I looked elsewhere. Especially with the second issue which was my favourite sweet potato fries tasting of what I can only think of as "hand cream" or some other lotion designed to moisturise hands and not to be consumed. It's also sickening to think the kitchens do not have any health and safety procedures especially regarding hand washing. So that's the good and the bad. Check it out for yourself soon!

I must admit, I was slightly intoxicated when I visited. 😂 The place was heaving and had a superb atmosphere at 4.30pm on a Saturday. We were lucky enough to find an outdoor booth but sadly the heater didn't work. But it wasn't cold so no real dramas. Erm, I remember seeing a good array of handpumps and spirits, but couldn't tell you what was on. 🙈🤣 However, the double Kraken and coke drinks went down a treat. Will definitely call back in at the start of a day out and maybe try the food. It looked and smelt divine, but as eatin' is cheatin' we didn't try it this time, midway through an 'Old Town' crawl.

Called in for lunch today about 12.30pm partie of 5. The pie i was served was the worse pie i have had in a long while. There was nothing wonderful or crisp about pastry, it was hard and tough there was veg in the pie though we had asked for steak and ale. The fries were well over cooked and oily ! The cobs we ordered were part bake and hard. The salad garnish limp and the colslaw was vingery. Our fizzy drinks were expensive we also paid for two glasses of orange cordial they were disgusting. We ate what we could we were all hunry hence the early dinner, I waited to be asked how was our meal and i would have mentioned the above. Then a dog arrived at next table a large dog with a sign on it's lead saying don't pet me, Scary ! We had 2 children in our party that are afaid of dogs. This is not good, what a disappointing meal and experience ..the food took a while to come out so was expecting better things. Hey ho nice welcome for dogs however some of us don't like eating at eye level with strange dogs. Real shame our visit was spoilt.

It was my first time there, so only ordered a soft drink. The pub was quite busy and there was limited staff. If I go again it will be much earlier.

Simply awesome pub. Even when quiet it's a great old boozer. Once busy it comes alive . Such good fun. Highly recommend.

I recently visited a lovely Costa Coffee location that is wheelchair-friendly and has plenty of parking nearby. It's nestled in a bustling retail area with lots of great shops. The food is delicious, and the staff are super friendly. There are plenty of options for vegetarians, and they even offer some tasty vegan choices. Additionally, they have a disabled toilet on the premises. The only downside was that the Bakewell tart didn't quite taste like it should – it was more like a cherry tart.
