The Sail Inn in New Forest

We are locals who use this pub regularly. The pub is in one of the historic buildings, complete with beams and quirky features, it has a garden and welcomes well behaved dogs. There is a public car park to the rear near the football ground and there is access to the pub through the garden. The staff are friendly and the food is good pub grub. We have recently enjoyed the Sunday roast which is excellent value at only £12. Large portion of your choice of meat with all the trimmings. The main menu gives lots to choose from all reasonably priced and well cooked. I love the salmon and noodles! I am really looking forward to our Christmas meal on 21 December. Paul and his team do a great job. If you are visiting Lymington I recommend a visit to the Sail Inn.

we were in a party of six , three couples, and we booked a table in advance. at first the inn was warm and cosy, but after about one and a half hours, we all started to feel chilly and not cosy. some other customers had their coats on, but didn't seem to say anything. we were told that the heating had been turned off by the barman, we were also told that he was not cold. when our meals arrived, some of us were not really impressed with it. there seemed to be only one member of staff most of the time we were there, and we were there for about 2 1/2 hour. considering it was a rough wet day outside, we were amazed to be told that the heating was off. we will not be returning there again soon.

A lovely pub with excellent food and fantastic service. The waiter, Rob, was very welcoming and pointed out the special reduced priced menu as we were eating before 5pm. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming and we thoroughly enjoyed the night. Our only regret was that we didn't have any change with us as we just came out with our credit card and couldn't leave a tip and they didn't have that facility on their machine. Once again a big shout out to our waiter Rob who couldn't have provided better service.

Booked a table for 6 people and when we arrived shown to table promptly and drinks ordered. A very extensive menu and we all chose slightly different options. Generous portions and piping hot food delivered in a timely manner. Attentive service which was friendly and professional. Will definitely return when next in lymington.

Email sent without reply: Hi, I wanted to follow up after my visit today with my partner to your pub. I want to add we are regular visitors of the area and have been to the pub 3 or 4 times since we stumbled across it a few months ago. We visited on Friday 4th October and again today (Sunday 6th October). The visit Friday was fantastic and the waiter that served us was great. However upon visiting today we did not have the same pleasant experience. When we received our meal I tried to cut into my lamb and it was fatty. I actually couldn’t cut through it. I spoke to the waiter and asked for a different piece of lamb or change it to pork if the next piece was going to be the same. They said the next piece would be better but when it came out I was actually given pork, which was nice. However I had to then ask for the veg and cauliflower cheese, that had been taken away with my previous plate of food. After I had eaten most of my meal the veg came but not the cauliflower cheese. I then told the waiter to not bother about the cauliflower cheese as it was too late. Meaning me and my partner ate separately. In the meantime the elderly man sat eating alone at the table next to us choked and was sick on the floor. He disappeared to the toilet where he continued to be sick. The waiter came over to clean the sick where he proceeded to gag upon cleaning it up, at which point this made partner sick. This whole experience was just awful and upon receiving the bill it had the lamb on it (which was more expensive) and not the pork on it which I had to point out it also had the cauliflower cheese which was taken away with the initial meal. These were eventually taken off the bill, but quite frankly it was disappointing that it was not all dealt with ahead of me receiving the bill. When asking for these things to be removed it felt as though I was just after a discount. Sadly, this bad experience has really ruined the previously good experiences we have had and not sure we would return. I don’t like to complain but do think given the circumstances we should have been looked after a little better.

Visited the Sail inn with my uncle who lives in Lymington. Previous experience at the pub had been very good however this visit has left a very poor taste in the mouth. While the fish and chips were adequate the use of some sort of paper to "soak up the oil" from the food was less than appetizing for my uncle who is elderly. While the stated serving hours were 12 to 3pm when I requested dessert and coffees we were told the kitchen was closed as the chef "had to be somewhere" Given the choice of quality establishments in Lymington we obviously regretted choosing The Sail Inn and won't be doing so in the future - the fact there was no warning that the kitchen was closing early is annoying however the actual decision to shut early on a Friday lunchtime in a competive marketplace is beyond me.

Lovely ambience in the pub, dog friendly and the food was really good. Their 2 for £16 menu is amazing, and the puds were excellent. Best eating place we visited during our time in Milford. Wish we’d gone earlier in the week, we definitely have used again.

We have just returned from a weeks holiday and have eaten in this lovely pub on 3 nights. We really enjoyed the food extremly good value at 2 meals for £16 very genourous portions and very tasty food. The pub has a reall friendly welcoming feel, I really recommend you pay them a vist, very good wine and so reasonablly priced.

Really enjoyed the Sunday Lunch here. We drove down for the day and found this place via Tripadvisor. The service was excellent, and the staff were lovely. A really happy and relaxed atmosphere. Highly recommended for couples and families. Give it a go.

I booked for 7:30pm, adjusting the time of our meal to assist their arrangements. On arrival the pub was packed. There wasn't room to squeeze in another chair, let alone a table.. Intimate doesn't get close! On inspection of menus we were advised of a 45 minute wait for food, which was a tad off putting as we had a timed booking. HOWEVER Despite crowded seating and potentially delayed food, the starters were served within about 10/15 minutes, which I thought was pretty good seeing how busy they were. I thought maybe that would mean a long waiter main courses, but again they were served pretty efficiently. Well done catering staff The food was very good. Well cooked, good portions and nicely presented. Staff were extremely efficient and we had a delightful family celebratory evening. Well done to all the staff. What felt like it might be a disaster was in fact a really good evening.

Having read previous reviews, we were looking for somewhere in the Lymington area to meet up with family and The Sail Inn ticked all the boxes. A very pleasant pub with a warm welcome and good service. A varied menu and the food we ordered was cooked well, was very hot and nicely presented, all at a reasonable price. A very enjoyable lunch and we will definitely be back.

Once again, great food, great host and good company all at reasonable prices. A must is to try their Sunday lunch. Beware as you need to book as they are always busy which is understandable with the quality and price.

Nice restaurant area in the pub. Good choice on menu. Had chicken fajitas which was excellent. Only downside was rather slow service despite not being too busy. Would eat there again.
