We ate here for 3 nights. Service was generally good. Menu was almost the same every night. One night one special was changed. Food was well presented but lacked flavour. Steak was tough. Cabbage with 4 main courses. Fried Cabbage, Savoy in a creamy sauce that ruined the gravy with the meat. Wilted Cabbage. If Cabbage was not your thing, a problem. Duck was good but a very small portion. Having visited other Q Hotel Restaurants this one was not so good as others.

We ordered a sandwich from their menu. It was advertised as “split tin bread” whatever that is but when it arrived it was made from a standard whole meal loaf. The cress was missing from the “egg and watercress” and was in no way worth £7.50 a pop. Disgraceful, and we let them know that.

the menu is dull has very few exciting options, is predcated around a £28 spend and will win no awards. Frankln if it was not included in your taraff there is no incentive to stay. However having booked bed, breakfasta and evening meal we stayed and indulged. The food was ok, nothing special and probably not worth what it allegedly cost and the winelist list is very overpriced for bog standard wines. There is nowhere else near so that concentrates the mind!

Perhaps not strictly a restaurant review but will pass some comments on the food served at a friends wedding. Firstly the ordering process was electronic. We got sent emails when the wedding was being planned with a link to order the food. 3 choices per course I think. Needless to say everyone forgets what they ordered. But worry not my full order was printed on my name card at the wedding. Very good. All the guests on our table commented on how good the food was. Certainly better than most, if not all, weddings I have attended. A light chicken and chorizo starter. Perhaps the weakest link. The beef I had for mains was excellent. Very tender and served with good vegetables. The lemon tart was tasty. Perhaps a tiny bit on the dry side. Thinner pastry might have helped. But overall very good

The main course was white chicken, white cabbage and potatoes so the plate looked insipid and unappetising and had little taste. The braised beef was also uninspiring. There was no cheese course on the menu but when I asked for some, the kitchen did provide three kinds of cheese.

The salmon for dinner was pretty average and had been cooked for far too long. Service was good though. Breakfast was really poor - cold scrambled eggs, over cooked sausages, no offer of tea or coffee, over-concentrated fruit juice.... It turned in to a very quick pit-stop and then moving to the bar for proper coffee and a packet of biscuits. This really needs some attention to live up to the quality of the hotel.

We had a £28 allowance at the restaurant included with our one night spa break. The ambiance in the restaurant was perfect and we did not feel rushed by our waitress, who was polite, smiley and very efficient. We enjoyed a delicious steak meal each, with sides and a dessert and that was all covered in our £28 limit, so it was all really good value.

We ate here one night whilst staying at the hotel and opted for the full three courses. I found the menu choices plentiful for a one off meal but my partner who is vegetarian was more limited but unfortunately this is not unusual with many places only offering a single vegetarian choice. If anyone eats here for every night of an extended stay they will quickly run out of choices that interest them. The service was excellent and the staff were very helpful and attentive. The food was delivered quickly – maybe a little too quickly for my liking with no pause between courses and was cooked to perfection.

I met a colleague here for a lunch meeting and I must say the restaurant staff seem poorly trained! But the biggest issue was the food we were served, 2 x chicken burgers that were dreadful, the buns had clearly been frozen and the whole burger was a sweaty mess of grease and hard chicken which all tasted microwaved. We couldn't finish the meals and we we didn't have to pay after complaining, but we have both been quite ill for 2 days after! Something is very wrong with that kitchen! I would never eat in this hotel again.

Firstly, the front of house staff in this restaurant are fantastic and couldn't be more helpful. The short, well balanced, set menu is well balanced and sounds interesting. Sadly it is not well executed by the kitchen. We were here for 2 nights on a DB&B basis so ate here on both nights. On the first night I had duck - described as pink, but certainly overcooked - on the second I had their "Gourmet" burger - an overcooked slab of tasteless meat presented with average chips and a very poor "pickled slaw". Starters were OK if somewhat small portions. The kitchen do, however seem to be able to produce good steaks as two of our party had them on the second night and were both very happy. The wine list is, as you would expect in most hotels, over priced and rather boring.

The restaurant is very nice and had secluded parts if you wanted them, I was very dissapointed with my starter of hot smoked salmon as there was hardly any of it, I could have fit the salmon portion of it on a teaspoon about 6 lentils and a table spoon of salad, I also had the duck which was overcooked but the veg was good, some of the food was excellent around the table but it was hit and miss depending on what you ordered no consistency, having said that the service was very good.

You will see from my last review that booking a meal in the hotel restaurant was far from easy. It doesn't appear that anything has changed since then as when we arrived for our Valentine's meal last week there was no record of our reservation, which was made two weeks previously. We were not given a very warm welcome after this and treated more like an inconvenience even though the restaurant was not very full at this time. The service after we were seated was good and quick. The food arrived promptly and was good quality. One point to make is that they have stopped serving vegetables as standard with the main meals (or certainly the steaks, anyway) and are now offering them as a chargeable extra.Desserts were lovely and the highlight of the meal! Cost is the same as my last couple of reviews - expensive so only for special occasions. Expect to pay approximately £60.00 for a three course meal with soft drinks for two.If they could get their booking system up to scratch and work on the welcome (it used to be 5*, now it's more like 3*), it would be a 5* review again. Shame as it used to be our favourite place for special occasion meals but can see it going downhill each time we visit.

MORE AT TripAdvisor

As you will see from previous reviews, my husband and I have always enjoyed our meals here on special occasions and we recently visited for a family birthday. We were seated promptly, although there didn't seem to be any record of our booking on the table layout system - we were treated as if we were hotel guests rather than locals who had booked just for a meal. The restaurant was quiet, which was good, and our quick service reflected this.We were seated and given menus, which we had only just made our choice from when they were taken away from us and replaced by different ones. Apparently they now have different menus for different days. The prices were a little different for the same/similar dishes on each menu, too. These have risen since our last visit. Unfortunately there was not much of interest on the new menus and the meals that we had always previously had were not available. However I did ask if I could have a particular starter that was on the old menu and this was provided for me, which was good of the chef. When the food came it was nice, but not especially so. Unfortunately the quality of the meals this time did not match that of our previous visits. We did not order pudding as the puddings on the new menu were not very inspiring. When we left, we noticed a 10% service charge on our bill. We asked for this to be removed as it was optional. The prices of the drinks were shocking - £2.05 for a small glass of Coke (less volume than a can of Coke). The Coke also tasted very watered down.In the past we have not minded paying a bit more for our meal here due to the quality of the food and the quality of the experience. However this time, nearly £60.00 for a two course meal for two with two drinks was a bit galling due to the mediocrity of everything. The special touches - waiters pulling your chair out for you, treating you as a 'special customer', etc. weren't in evidence this time, which made us feel that we may as well have gone to a standard restaurant, had the same experience and saved a bit of money.

My husband and I live locally and always visit this restaurant on special occasions. We visited last night for our fourth wedding anniversary and were not disappointed. We were greeted promptly and professionally by our waiter and shown to our table. Pulling out the chairs and placing our napkins on our laps our nice little touches that make the experience feel that little bit more special. The menu does not change from one visit to the next but this is good as there is a wide choice of food available and we like the available dishes. We were given water and bread rolls while we ordered and our order was taken promptly. Our starters were delivered to our table within 5 minutes of ordering and they were perfect, as usual. The melon fashioned into the shape of a rose is a lovely touch. Our main courses were delivered quickly as well and were as tasty as we have come to expect from the Belfry. Absolutely perfect! The staff are courteous and nothing is too much trouble for them. There are plenty of staff on hand should you need extra drinks or service. We always find the staff here to be five star both in terms of manner and standards of service. The cost is reasonable for a hotel restaurant of this standard - starts approx. £5.00, mains approx. £15.00 and puddings approx. £5.00 so allow £20-30 per person for a three course meal.Well done to everyone at the restaurant - we will certainly be back again soon!

This is a good hotel in terms of accommodation, rooms are good, leisure facilities are good, staff on reception and in the leisure club are good. HOWEVER DON'T WHATEVER YOU DO BOTHER WITH THE RESTAURANT. I stayed for a week at the hotel with colleagues whilst on a course, we only ate in the restaurant once and that was enough. The prices are really expensive but the food is really really poor. I had a smoked salmon starter which was around £7 which was just some bits of smoked salmon with a bit of salad and a dip, I would have been gutted even in a pub with this. The main course I ordered sausage and mash (I think £14) was presented with a small amount of mash with 3 little cheap sausages. I sent this back and when I discussed this with the manager, I said that this is really poor the sausages are really cheap grisseley sausages he said "well thats just head office for you"A large group of women (Hen night) were also eating in the restaurant one of them had had weetabix as her main course having been so unhappy with the food.I left and got something to eat in oxford. There are plenty of nice places to eat in Thame, the italian and curry house are good. Its a shame the restaurant drags the whole place down, other than that it would be a good hotel. We did expect hear Gordon Ramsey yelling at the staff in the kitchen....

We have always liked the food and service in Harvesters. Always been loyal customers. However, our most recent experience was not great at all. The place was busy, the salad bar was quite empty and the food took a much longer time to arrive which we could excuse as a one-off. But some of the food was not cooked through unfortunately, which believe it or not, again we sort of excused as staff apologised and replaced it. What we cannot overlook however was the menu has changed and unfortunately all the tasty parts of the food have been replaced with hard, tasteless freezer food. Prices have gone up too, which is understandable but they should not have messed with the quality of the food. The chicken, the hash browns were not soft and succulent as before. The nice onion ring was replaced by hard and cold cheese jalapeño rings. Totally different food experience now. We are not going to go back in a hurry, let's just say. Really sad as we did like frequenting it over the last few years.
