Sunday lunches are amazing it’s hard to find a good roast instead of awful carveries. The roast potatoes are some of the best we’ve ever had and we have tried lots of places. A big thumbs up 👍

Called in for lunch with the wife after shopping. The food was excellent. Very swift good service. Fish platter with Scampi and Calamari. How can they provide such a feast for the price I do not know. We will be back for more.

Just the kind of pub we were looking for. Delicious Sunday dinner, with real meat juice gravy. An inexpensive treat for the family, with a wide choice of food. Will be back, as there are 3 more meals we fancy.

Great beer garden, delicious varied menu. Could have a better draft choice (more stouts/porters), but otherwise its a great place.

The food was really good and the staff were really friendly and helpful, but the pub needs some decorating to be done.

OMG what wonderful food! We were just passing through and stopped off on a whim, so glad we did. Both of us had fish dishes and they were cooked to perfection. Lots of choice for food and for children and prices are very good too. Staff super friendly. *****

Quieter than I would expect for a Sunday lunch time, but still a decent atmosphere, and decent beer too. Not overly expensive too. I'm not sure why, but this place doesn't seem as popular as it uses to, and I can't really tell why. Staff was friendly though which improves the visit.

Been twice now with my wife and kids and can't wait to go again. Food is superb with loads of choice and you get alot for your money. Servers are really friendly and attentive. Parking available, good choice of drinks, family friendly and I would would highly recommend.

Very cozy pub, friendly and helpful bar staff. We had a combo sharing platter and a main meal each, my main was the Blade of beef and was very comforting and tasty and my partner had the Salmon with New potatoes and mixed salad which was fresh and refreshing. The price was fantastic value and we will be definitely visiting again.

Many great memories here as a kid in the family room at the back. Unfortunately like most pubs all the kids entertainment has all gone and even the family room. That said it's a beautiful traditional pub with all the traditional features. Had a Sunday lunch staff where great really friendly and helpful. Food wasn't to my taste , beers where great

I have enjoyed several good meals here and can recommend the food. They always have a choice of real ales . Sunday lunch is especially good at a reasonable price of £8.50 with a selection of puddings and ice cream. The restaurant at the back is unusual for it has plates of the old local coal pits. Dating back years. A must see when your in the area of Shipley,near Ilkeston.

Always value for money food, alongside real ale, wine, cider, soft drinks and/or, tea and coffee. Good garden area. 👍 Update Feb 2022 First time back since lockdown 2020, due to my wife's vulnerable health. The only thing that has changed is the menu, just the same value as before and staff are just as layed back and freindly. Neither of us are vegetarian but we had the, Mushrooms in Stilton sauce with Garlic ciabatta dressed salad and chips, 👌 absolutely delicious and flavourful. A must for something different. There is a reasonable sized car park accessed down the side of the pub, if your driving..

My partner and I called in for a late lunch, I had cheese and onion pie, mashed potatoes, garden peas, my partner had beef and onion pie, both meals were excellent, as were the staff. The only downside was that there were a group of men drinking in the bar area using foul language. This was not the fault of the establishment, but this wasn't acceptable. This was our fourth visit, other visits were fine

Food OK service very good especially with covid guidelines being observed. Not a very large selection on drinks but they do have the basics covered. Oh and they do not do cocktails!

Brilliant service from 2 lovely ladies

We came for drinks and the service was terrible, it took 35 minutes to get served. The server seemed more bothered about vaping on the garden and talking to people she knew than serving. After asking multiple times, we asked the server about what certain drinks she had to which she replied ‘none really, only a couple’ to which she wouldn’t expand on

It is a lovely pub, lovely atmosphere. The food came out hot but there was no cutlery on the table when I asked staff for it they took it to a different table then I had to ask again.

Called in Monday evening to eat. I found the staff excellent, a great choice on the menu, fresh tasty food. And the bonus was the dog was also welcome 😊🌞 we know where we're going next time

Lovely pub, but sadly no longer a good food pub! Such a shame it’s gone downhill again. It used to be much much better home cooking. Hopefully will improve again soon!

Xmas Dinner not good had to wait 35 minutes between each course and some of the expected food was not there plus mash potatoes was lumpy not very good at all not return again

First visit to Rutland Cottage and a good call. Nice choice of hand pull beers, had a lovely pale ale. It was a quick visit but time for some food. Good varied menu choice and specials on the board, where we chose liver and onions and mince and onion pie. Two for £12...what a silly price for home made food! Nice welcome from the staff. We will be back.

Beer cloudy, television too loud, then piped music turned up loudly. When asked to turn one off, girl behind bar said 'they'res always one' left after 1pint, never to return.

Had a cracking Xmas dinner here.

Me and the wife called in Sunday lunchtime and both had the Sunday roast. Very generous portions and well cooked for a reasonable price. It's a proper locals pub with no frills which suits us. Good service and a nice beer garden to sit in, will be back when visiting the nearby hospital.
