Stayed at this hotel for one night, as a stop over, when on our way up to North Yorkshire for a short break. A lovely hotel with lots of character. All staff very friendly and helpful. Our room was very bright ... double aspect windows.... and very clean. Nice en_suite bathroom and very comfortable bed. Breakfast was great too. Would definitely recommend staying at this hotel.

We had a Groupon for Sunday lunch and booked again as we have been before. The staff are just lovely there friendly and professional. Janine our waitress/ server was outstanding we had met her before she really loves her work and that comes across, making people happy and that their time there is a happy one. The meal was lovely.. tasty and plentiful my husband and loved the mushroom starter, l had Roast beef while my husband had cottage pie which he raved about. We did enjoy a pudding between us which was chocolate orange and again delightful. Thank you Risley Hall..and Special thanks to Janine.. we will be back very soon. Sandy / Brian x

We began with drinks at the bar with our family, then into the restaurant which was laid out beautifully for us. The waiters and barman were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The whole atmosphere was lovely and the meal was excellent. By the time we had finished it was dark and with the Christmas lights etc it was magical. We all thoroughly enjoyed the visit and will certainly return again.

Good Main Meal but not a very nice starter. Had Prawn Cocktail with these huge green spinach like leaves. Prawn Cocktail should have Iceberg Lettuce! Also there was No Lemon Wedge either.

I bought a Groupon for Sunday Lunch for the four of us. Unfortunately one of my sons was hugely delayed and arrived very late. The staff were wonderful and very understanding. From the moment we arrived we were looked after by the friendly team who could not have done more for us. The food was lovely and sitting outside afterwards in the grounds having coffee in the sunshine was blissful. We will definitely return. Thank you.

Went for Sunday lunch with a Groupon voucher, which it appeared most people were doing. Staff very pleasant but the food was very disappointing. I had pate to start which came with Melba toast which consisted of one 1/2 slice of supermarket sliced bread made into the Melba toast. I thought it was mean and petty to only use 1/2 of the slice of bread. My other half had soup, but even though the table had side plates he wasn’t offered a roll. When he asked, he was provided with a piece of ready sliced bread! To be fair the main meal was relatively acceptable, although I did find it a little strange to be served corn on the cob on a Sunday lunch with gravy. Although the choices of meat were beef or turkey they didn’t have any cranberry or horse radish source. We were advised that they were short of bread etc do to a wedding the previous day. Service was very slow so didn’t bother with desert. I think they are really missing a trick here it shouldn’t take too much effort to get the small things, that matter, right. If we had enjoyed the meal and the service was good we would have happily booked again at the full price for 3 courses. Unfortunately won’t be going back.

We visited to claim a voucher gift for afternoon tea.. bit unusual as hadn’t clocked the booking I’d made but despite having a wedding to sort out our waitress was very helpful and sorted great pot of tea while food was sorted. Scones were good and other cakes delicious too. Very enjoyable!

Purchased a wowcher for Afternoon Tea to celebrate my Aunties birthday..Although the food was ok the service was very disappointing. We had to wait at reception for what sempt like ages.. Taken to a area in the bar were we were asked twice what we would like to drink ...the first order was forgotten about. When our pots of tea finally arrived ( in basic white china ) it became apparent we were expected to have ur Afternoon tea there. When i said we would like to eat in the dining room the ea was taken away and the waitress said she would set the table. The two stands of food were put n the table before we sat down. No one came to ask if we were ok and had to search for a member of staff to ask for more tea. Also only one of the toilets had loo roll and the bins had not been emptied. Disappointed with the experience.

This was a groupon offer Sunday lunch with glass of wine, ordered drinks at the bar told them would pay at the end. Starter came, not offered any wine, main meal came still not offered any wine, but then was reminded in the middle of eating our dinner that we had to pay for our drinks at the end at the bar. Felt like they thought we was going to go without paying, until I reminded them we had not been offered any wine. Restaurant staff need further training I think, bar lady lovely.

Stuck for other options, my partner and I dined here yesterday evening. We were asked to sit in the bar area rather than the hotel and offered a selection of food from a very limited menu. My partner enjoyed her repast but my own was a little burnt and spartan when you consider the amount paid. It was very much budget pub grub served at hotel restaurant prices.

Initial impressions were that the surroundings were pleasant, if a little tired and the staff welcoming, however when the food arrived lukewarm it want downhill from there. The table next to us sent their food back because it wasn't hot, so we were very disappointed but not surprised when our food was also barely warm. We sent it back to be warmed up, and after about five minutes a waitress came and attempted to clear away the remaining vegetables, so we reminded her that the food was being warmed up. A few minutes later another waitress queried whether we were still waiting for the main to be returned, and she chased it up. When two new plates arrived (I can only guess that they had thrown away the previous ones) they were also lukewarm. When asked by the staff how it was we said it was still not hot, but having waited so long the previous time there seemed little point in asking if they could warm it up again. When leaving we spoke to two further staff, and told them the food was cold, to which they replied that they would tell the chef! As it was a groupon voucher it was already paid for, so not paying wasn't an option. This was the groupon priced at £34.50 for two courses for two diners, if we'd eaten in at the restaurant normal price it would have been £17.95 a head for a 3 course meal, and we wouldn't have missed the very small glass of wine. Overall a disappointing experience, both on the part of the restaurant, and on the groupon offer. We have no desire to use either again. It's a pity, it could have been a really nice experience, but it was unforgettable for all the wrong reasons.

We had a Groupon birthday voucher for Sunday lunch, what a let down, beautiful venue but unfortunately the food didn't match! We were seated in a side room obviously for Groupon customers, not in main restaurant, 2 other couples arrived later, they were also not impressed left before we did, food was very poor veg almost unbeatable 3 hard roast potatoes tasteless beef and and spare water gravy, not going back and definitely not recommended

I took my mum here for her birthday, the building and surroundings were beautiful. The afternoon tea was fresh and tasty, no hard edges to the bread etc. I'd go again, I'd have liked to have sat in some of the other rooms as we were in a chilly conservatory and the other rooms are beautiful.

We visited on a Sunday, we normally come in a Monday and never have issues, but we feel let down this time round, we waited an hour for our food to come, and when it did, they brought my husbands dinner out alone then carried of serving other tables we had to wait a further 10 mins for ours, so decided we wouldn't be ordering desserts this time, the male waiter we had we asked him if we could all have our food but he carried on serving others without any explanation as to where our food was, we then asked a female waitress where the rest of our food was she said she would go and check but never came back with an update, I understand Sundays are busy but you should then have more staff on and warn us while ordering how long the wait would be, we weren't the only one who complained this day either, our friends on another table ordered a chicken burger and he received a beef burger they offered him a discount but then didn't discount his bill

A Tuesday evening may not be the busiest day of the week and, as such, this produced a welcome quietness in the restaurant which we shared with a small number of other diners.

The setting was lovely but the food was seriously lacking. The starter (paté) was very grainy and both this and the melba toast tasted shop brought (in fact the pate still retained what looked like the indentations from the packaging!). The starter was followed by a sunday lunch served with very tough roasties, burnt Yorkshire puds and was generally very bland. The meat was also very overcooked in my opinion. We did this via a groupon hence the 3 stars otherwise I would have scored it lower. We left the meal after two courses and had a pudding at another local pub/restaurant. Very disappointing experience, as I had heard such good things about the place in the past.

We had Sunday lunch here and were very pleasantly surprised. Although quite local to us we didn't know you could eat here as non-residents. The grounds and the old building are lovely to walk around to soak up the atmosphere. We were taken into the bar to place our order which was a good place to sit and wait - would be even better if we'd been offered drinks whilst we were waiting. It seemed that there was only one bar-man on and he was having to run back and forth to the restaurant. The food was lovely and we both enjoyed it although again, I had to ask if we could order drinks. Perhaps they don't like to sell drinks?! There were about five tables of people eating and I don't think the waitress could have coped had there been more as again, it seemed like managing on skeleton staff which on a Bank Holiday seemed odd. Although there seemed very few staff they were pleasant and helpful.

Sunday Lunch in the Garden Room well worth the money. Room is well decorated, light and airey with views out to the garden. Menu was quite small but with enough choice to please most people, course's were well cooked, presented very well and tasty. Service from staff was good but all staff need to be of the same consistency.

We had dinner included and both ordered Steak which was cooked to perfection, I think its probably the best steak we have both eaten. Next morning we had breakfast, which was very nice, only problem was the toaster. When you put the toast in the chute was missing, so toast landed at the back and was a bit awkward to get to.
