Today I had a terrible experience. The coconut latte wasn’t as usual. The staff responded that the latte is always without foam. The woman at the next table said the same thing, that something was wrong with the coffee, and then she got up and left. I want to point out that you often have great coffee, but there’s always something happening with this particular shift. Last time, I waited for my order for half an hour, and the staff just forgot about it. Then they brought me the coffee but forgot to bring the dessert. I didn’t want to leave a bad review, but this is happening too often.

I visited The Rustic Bean for the first time this morning and was impressed by how spacious and cosy the inside is - you can’t really tell from outside how welcoming the interior of the cafe is. It’s definitely somewhere you’d want to sit and relax with a book. My cappuccino was perfectly made. Highly recommend a visit.

The service was absolutely terrible today. I understand they were busy today, but I had to wait around 20 minutes for my for my coffee and cake. What made this even worse was the poor attitude of the young male team member. After waiting around 20 minutes, I overheard someone on the table behind, who had come in quite a while after me, say "this is not my order" and the man replied "I will make another one for you." I got his attention and told him I'd been waiting a long time for my coffee and cake. He asked what coffee I ordered and then grabbed the coffee from the table behind me after I told him a flat white. He then brought over my cake and didn't say anything. However, he returned to the table behind and apologised to that table for keeping them waiting. I'd been waiting much longer and didn't receive any kind of apology or acknowledgement. I was left to wonder why I was treated differently and with such indifference as a paying customer. This has to be the worst experience I've had at a cafe in the UK so far.

Good ambience and friendly service, welcoming to our dogs but we each had a Mocha extortionately priced at £4 a piece both of which were luke warm. The food, also expensive, was fair but not brilliant. I had eggs benediction, eggs were overdone and claggy. My partner had streaky bacon on sourdough which he called adequate but would not have again. No salt and pepper provided. Cafe was well patronised and everyone seemed happy so maybe we were just unlucky.

A bit disappointed with my experience this morning, been a couple times before and love to support independents. There is a great selection of cakes and coffee and a nice rustic environment but we were not greeted with any smiles, a hello or friendliness. Coffee was good but it would’ve been great to have some interaction from staff. It was also odd that a couple staff members working at the counter weren’t really doing anything, and going on their phone while working.

We’ve needed a place like this in town and it’s finally here. I’m not a regular but do enjoy getting a coffee here. Have also had breakfast there once after swimming and it was really good. Staff sometimes seems stressed but I think this is down to understaffing and new people needing training. But really can’t fault their attitude, everyone is friendly. I also saw that they took a coffee out to the topside pharmacy as the guy from there couldn’t stay to wait for his takeaway coffee and that just speaks volumes about good customer service! I hope they’re in Chippy for the long run.

I really wanted to like this place and all of the fundamentals are there, just need a few tweaks! Pain au raisin was one of the best I've ever had. A great selection of coffees and food too, really lovely menu. The decor was beautiful and really fitting with the theme. The mugs and even the light switches all match - bravo! The atmosphere was a little bit on edge due to delays with coffee. I honestly didn't think the delay was too bad, the only thing I would say is that our drinks were brought out separately. I think a bit more ticket management is needed as it seemed a bit chaotic and stressful for the staff. Coffee wasn't the best honestly, I feel like it was the chocolate powder as I had a mocha and my husbands hot choc tasted the same. But thats probably just us again. Generally a really lovely place and I would definitely return if I was the area, maybe try some of the food this time!

We visited for brunch today. The coffee shop is dog friendly which is great, but unfortunately the customer service is poor. It took a long time for our coffees to arrive and over an hour for our food - this is too long for Eggs Benedict! When the food finally arrived, the bacon was overcooked. We ordered a second coffee whilst waiting for the food and this arrived too late for us to finish. We weren’t the only customers waiting a long time. You pay for your food and a service charge before eating which is frustrating when the service is so slow!

Went in today for my birthday lunch, service is awful - young members of staff are rude and incompetent. Ordered two toasted sandwiches (which are not made on-site, pre-made and heated up on premise). 20 mins before I had to go and ask where my order was, young man was rude to me and didn’t bother going to check (we were one of about 4 tables so it wasn’t because they were busy). Asked again 5 mins later to just tell the kitchen to make them to go as I ran out of time for lunch. Again rude, and it took ages to get the toasties, I assume because they had forgotten my order and only started making it when I told him to change the order to a takeaway. Food was overly greasy when we finally got it anyway and not worth the wait or the £20 I paid for it - very overpriced. I won’t be going here again and I won’t be recommending to anyone else in chippy. Such a shame, mash pantry was so much better.

Some of the worst service I have ever had, woke our babies up by dragging chairs across the floor loudly and knocking pram, made us wait 30 min for a pre-made mediocre sandwich (cafe was empty so should have been quick) then got annoyed by us asking to take away. All I can say is you can take the bean out of Banbury but you can’t take Banbury out of the bean! I hope you get good trade from tourists this summer because if this is the way you treat locals you’ll go the same way as the last coffee shop that was there. *Funny you should mention seasoning, perhaps you should consider a pinch of salt!

I'm really sad to write this, but I've recently learnt that my favourite cafe is no longer safe for me. I'm a coeliac, so cannot have gluten, this includes trace amounts. I've been getting sick for over a month and I'm very strict about food/drink intake as cross contamination poses a real risk for me. I spoke to one of the lovely servers the other day when they noticed I didn't order my usual and explained why and they said it was probably the jugs that were making me sick due to cross contamination (I come to the cafe as a group and one of us has oat milk which would make me very sick). I said that would absolutely be doing it. I'm also a parent to a child with severe nut anaphylaxis and it occurred to me that if someone with a nut allergy was served after someone who had almond milk, the results would be for more immediate and fatal that what I'm dealing with. There isn't a website or email address I can raise this concern with, but I need to state it here in full to keep people like myself and those with other top 14 allergies safe! They make a great effort serving gluten free cakes and brunch options, but often the GF cakes aren't under a dome, again leading to cross contamination and negating the point in having them. Given how ill I am, I am now curious if the kitchen practice is also safe. I would love to speak to the owner, the servers I spoke to were very understanding, but didn't seem to be aware of the risk till I mentioned it, which seemed a very big red flag for myself and people who have fatal reactions to cross contamination!

Firstly, I’d like to say that some of the negative reviews on here are totally unjustified…if I have a problem when visiting an eatery I will always speak to the manager/owner, I would never slag the business off unless they were discourteous or offensive in any way! Still as the saying goes ‘You can’t please all of the people all of the time’ I had to wait a while for my breakfast this morning but was made aware of this before hand. The queue was back to the door which in my mind is a good thing, goes to show how popular the Rustic Bean is! Fantastic find! On a small drive in the Cotswolds from a few days stay in Stratford-upon-Avon we stopped at Chipping Norton for lunch. The Clarkson - recommended coffee shop was full so we wondered around and found The Rustic Bean. We loved the decor - rustic as stated but comfy and the ambiance was relaxed - gentle background music. Nothing contrived or of the standard commercial ilk. The tea, coffee and hot chocolates we had were excellent - my barista son was impressed, and my tea was distinct from the standard tea at home but nothing 'out there' or so distinct that it departed from a decent cuppa. We had various toasted sandwiches and paninis which were decent sized portions and made up fresh to order. There was a good range of cakes on show of decent portion size. It was a lovely, relaxing lunch in a spacious and comfortable area. Staff were friendly and patient with our holiday-paced ordering. Judging by their ages and the fact it was school holidays, the front-of-house staff were MAYBE college or uni students but not the 'only there for some extra pocket money' type you sometimes get in the chain coffee shops. They knew their role and served us well with the owners nearby scuttling between the kitchen and the tables. Vegetarian and vegan items available. We were very grateful to have found this place and only sad that we don't live nearby to enjoy it regularly. Thank you for a lovely lunch!

Still waiting for my coffee! We had a poor experience at rustic bean, they were happy taking orders and money but took no care in getting people their drinks in a reasonable time. After 15 minutes wait for a takeaway coffee we left. The service charge is the best thing about this place, you have to queue and pay at the till so not sure why I’d need to pay service in a cafe! I must also mention that I saw the owners write a very horrible message about the people who visited their old rustic bean branch in Banbury on Facebook! Absolutely classless and wont return ever again! Mor bakery round the corner is great and there are a few new cafes opening in chippy 😁 Edit for the reply: it’s not slandering your business I have genuine points and you only think that good reviews are worthy you’re delusional grow up ! We stayed in the village in an airbnb and this pub is an absolute delight, really lovely friendly staff and excellent food too!

A different type of pub, trying its best to be something different focusing on drinks promotions, shots, cocktails to bring in the crowds. The menu, too much, was given 3 or 4 different menus which was overload, keep it simple to 1 main menu and specials, try not to overdo things. I ordered the festive turkey pie, a little steep in price but was feeling like a pie day at 22 quid. Service was very slow with few punters, which wasn't expected. Food finally was dropped off at the table and my initial visualisation of the meal was dry, little effort which already put a damper on my pie day. The pie was dense, good sign but dry af The gravy helped a bit especially another serving of gravy. The mash was heavily dense and needed a knive to cut it. Seriously hard to find anywhere now that can cook basic food without the french cuisine overdoing.. Recommendation Strip back to basics, dont over complicate things Customers want good home cooked food, a simple menu, and hey presto you might be onto something better than the other pubs in the village. #garystribe #localguide #localguides #letsguide #cotswolds #chippingnorton
