Not a lot to say about the food and drink as we left before our drinks order was taken. We had booked a table for 6:30 on entering the carpark and then the pub it was clear that Thursday was a quiet night. We Approached the bar to be met by a lady, introduced ourselves and said we had booked a table and jokingly said I hope you can fit us in. Clearly she had no sense of humor and responded with “well if you have booked we can” Didn’t seem happy, she checked the booking and told me my name With check point Charlie dealt with she took us to our table left us with drinks and food menu and left us whilst carrying out other tasks ? She passed us 3 or 4 more times but chose not to check if we wanted drinks My wife and I felt we where unwelcome in the pub with no more than 10 customers and 5 cars on carpark We decided to leave still with no communication from Mrs Grumpy We drove 10 mins to a pub from the same chain where the experience was 10 out of 10 and spent £58 on food and drink For us the running horse as bolted

Today's visit was a let-down for me compared to my last visit. I chose the toasted cheese sandwich, which came with skin-on fries & side salad. Unfortunately the salad was limp & the toasted sandwich was four slabs of bread & melted cheese, the bread being thick, brittle/crunchy & dry. It was very hard to swallow. Previous visits have been better.

My wife and I came to visit the pub for an evening meal last night and despite booking, when we sat down and read the menu, we were told that the main dish that we would’ve liked, was sold out. Chose another dish and that was sold out, and two further dishes the we would have had were also sold out so we had to have a common denominator that was actually available to eat. Took a bit of time to arrive, but It was itself satisfactory. My wife decided to have a pudding, and asked for the trifle. We were told that it was not available as it had sold out. This was in an evening on a weekday so, choice of meals they are offering for sale are clearly not matching up what they are physically purchasing which is very poor indeed. We attended the second night as we had booked two nights, and my wife and I elected to have the steak and ale pie which we ordered. Two minutes later we were then told that they only had one pie left, so my wife ordered a rump steak. It arrived and was as tender and tasty as a pair of Dr Martin boots. It was exceptionally tough. It was returned and my wife was left with an alternative that was available, of some chicken which was quite nice and management gave it free of charge and rightly so under the circumstances. They seem to lack consistency with food availability in the evenings as yesterday, we were told that both pies would definitely be available so we were very disappointed, when only one pie is available. Not an ideal situation and would not return to the pub again, as there would be no idea whether there was any food available that we would like to eat. All rather disappointing and if you have a menu option that sells well, the idea is that you buy a lot of that because you know that you are going to sell it. Not continually run out of it and then disappoint customers.

It was like going to visit an old auntie as the way our food arrived pork belly which was a ration it seemed like supermarket mash dry and hard a chicken and bacon sandwich which also was like biting into a piece of wood it was that hard two tiny bits of chicken and what seemed like an off cut of a bit of bacon and my wife had scampi with chips just thrown in the plate as a gesture which wouldn’t fill a three year old, I can fully appreciate the second of the two meals are lunch menu but still at the price we payed was totally unacceptable to me the running horse are just living on past reputations and I would not recommend

The service was 5/5 with two lovely ladies being very welcoming and attentive. The food was hit & miss with great starters and puddings but the main arriving cold on one plate and the other lacking quality on the fries which were advertised as skin on fries but actually looked like cheap fries out of a supermarket freezer . We did have to wait a while for the food to come out and the pub was not that busy but the ladies kept an eye on refilling our drinks . Discount was given for the cold meal ( smothered chicken) and it was returned to the chef to warm up. They could not do enough to rectify the issue. My vegatable burger was very nice .

Very poor experience Despite, being in early(12'sh on the 26/8) we had to ask, what has happened to our order...after, waiting for a good 30 mins. The food, when it did finally arrive, was very poor...chicken, that was poor quality, 'greenery' just 'plonked' on the plate. Garlic bread 'soaked' and cold fries! After, recommending this pub to my family I was sooo disappointed. Our bill, was adjusted accordingly, but, I still paid approximately £27 for such poor quality food. Won't eat here again!

Visited with family for a special birthday for a Sunday dinner. Never had such poor food to a point that everyone in our party left all of their food. Roast potatoes that were cold, tiny and impossible to cut. Wedges that could not be cut. Kids pizza that was an over microwaved Chicago town Pizza. Cauliflower cheese tiny, cold and spongy. Absolutely awful. Unfortunately ruined a special day with family. I would not visit again even if the food was free.

Went for a meal this evening. Starters were very nice but that's where it ended unfortunately. Wasnt much choice on the menu (understandable as its Sunday) We could hear pretty much everything that was being shouted by the waiter when he was in and out the kitchen like "the pies are in the microwave". Pie's were too hard to eat and the mash potato was cold. The veg was just thrown on the plate and looked like a car crash. Chips were left off one of the meals and when I told the waiter he went to the kitchen and shouted "apparently she ordered chips not mash". Asked for some water with ice and it was warm waters. Not going to return.

--- Stepping into the Running Horse on a lazy Sunday is like diving into a warm gravy bath, minus the weird looks from the neighbors. The ambiance is a delightful blend of rustic charm and the unmistakable scent of roasted meats, promising a culinary experience that’ll make your taste buds dance like they're at a barnyard hoedown. The Sunday dinner is a showstopper. The roast beef is so tender it practically apologizes for leaving the cow, while the Yorkshire puddings are puffed up with such pride, you'd think they’d just won a baking competition. The vegetables, often the unsung heroes of any meal, were seasoned and cooked to perfection – not a soggy carrot in sight! And let’s talk about the gravy. Oh, the gravy! It's rich, it's savory, and if it were any more comforting, it’d tuck you in at night and read you a bedtime story. Pour it over everything – the beef, the potatoes, the Yorkshire pud – heck, I’d drizzle it on the menu if they’d let me. The staff at the Running Horse are as warm and welcoming as the food. They’ve mastered the art of the perfect pour, ensuring your glass is never empty and your spirits always high. By the time you’re done, you’ll feel less like a customer and more like part of the family – the kind of family that knows how to cook a mean Sunday roast. In conclusion, if you’re looking to gallop into a meal that’ll leave you full and grinning, the Running Horse is your steed. Just make sure to wear your stretchy pants – you’re gonna need ‘em.

Friendly staff and dog friendly, which is nice to see but unfortunately the food was absolutely terrible. Had Sunday lunch there. The first 2 meals came out wrong . Had to be changed . My meal was awful. It was supposed to be Mushroom Wellington . There was about 5 tiny flat mushrooms in there. It was supposed to come with seasonal veg. I had 1 slice of carrot, cold rock hard broccoli, roast potatoes which looked and tasted like they had been cooked in old fat. I paid extra for cauliflower cheese which was raw, had no cheese on and tasted like warm milk sauce. I left my meal. There were items missing off our meals too. The beer was warm too . The poor waitress had to keep apologising but it was a complete shambles. I didn't want to leave a review so I emailed them but as they haven't replied I've decided to leave one. Just been for a meal at the Running Horse and we'll I don't know where to start. We ordered fish chips and peas, big mistake. The presentation was 😱 The fish I think they either forgot to put any in or had cut it on a mandolin. I had new potatoes instead of chips well they had roast them beyond black a few days ago and they were cold, I sent the meal back and the waitress brought it back having warmed the potatoes up. She was obviously embarrassed and came back to see if I would prefer to leave the potatoes and have a bowl of chips. As they were inedible I agreed. We came to dessert and thought can't go wrong with ice cream. Well my 3 year old grandson could have done better. Ice cream sundae looked like a half eaten glass of chocolate and caramel mess. This is an unreasonable priced place not to be revisited.

Booked for a table of 12, 7 children ,5 adults for 2.30pm Saturday , a friendly welcome, but the service was appalling, not enough staff on we had to ask so we could order our food, this took over an hour to arrive, the food was mediocre at best, vegetables seemed very soggy and limp, peppercorn sauce never arrived even after asking twice for it, deserts arrived after a very long wait and when they did were inedible, staff apologised and took the deserts off the bill which still came to £255 , they acknowledged that they were under staffed and just couldnt cope, A very bad experience and won't be going back even though we have used the pub numerous times before. Have sent complaint to chef & brewer but as yet no reply, then they wonder why pubs are closing down, they really need to improve. I don't blame the staff for this failure, they were just overwhelmed with a couple of large tables and a few walk ins, but at the end of the day we are paying customers and expect great prompt service. The fault lies with management.

I was in Blackpool recently for the weekend and the lager in most pubs we went in was well under £3 a pint. I do not expect to pay premium prices in a brewery owned pub, especially when pubs such as Wetherspoons can undercut them by a considerable amount and other non brewery owned pubs as well. The Wetherspoons pub in Stourbridge is full most days, which reflects the reasonable pricing for food and beer. The food prices in Marston's pubs are also on the high side, but the food was mostly quite good and the service was good. If pubs are to survive they need to be competitive with regards to pricing and not charge through the nose....£3.10 for half a coke is very expensive in my view and the beer is too expensive...well over £5 per pint for Guinness is crazy. It's a nice enough pub, but well overpriced.

Haven't been here for years and pleasantly surprised,it was very nicely refurbished ,staff were very friendly, great choice of drinks, and reasonably priced. They have a good menu and that was also good value for money , definitely go again 👍
