Had a fantastic time at The Running Horse! Enjoyed a top-notch burger while juggling my energetic son, and Sasha was an absolute pro—effortlessly swerving around us with a smile and making us feel right at home. Great food, great staff, and the perfect spot for a fun, family-friendly meal!

We stayed here last night and I have to say we were very impressed - upgraded to a super -king room ( bed was sooo comfortable!) Before dinner we had a drink and the lovely Jess made me the best Pornstar Martini - the best I have ever had seriously! We then had their Sunday Roast which was absolutely delicious 😋 and very filling . Our waitress Dasha was just lovely, efficient and friendly. Breakfast this morning ( (Eggs Florentine) was just yummy . Thoroughly recommend this pub for food and for staying there. Thank you all 🙂

Friendly staff, and yummy food but £17.50 for a side plate sized slovaki salad as a main is utterly ridiculous. Overpriced, price hike is not worth the food.

Lovely pub very polite and helpful staff , had the Sunday roast chose the beef apparently sirloin , I beg to differ being a beef farmer and cook would definitely say topside , under cooked and very grisly , Yorkshire pudding home made very nice , selection of greens almost raw also luke warm , not what I’d expect for the price , hence next Sunday I’ll be booking the Jack Russel , you can’t get away with it guys ,left very disappointed, had it not been my wife treating me , I would have only paid you what I thought it was worth £10

I am rating the Running Horse purely on the accommodation, Needed a room close to an event I was attending along with a friend of mine. The location was perfect, and the price was very good as well. It was very easy to find and the check-in process could not have been easier. The staff were very welcoming and friendly, and they were able to ensure we had a twin room. If I had one gripe, it would be the bed was a little firm for my liking but in terms of value for money this is not a big thing. We did have a drink in the pub, the beer was good and as mentioned the staff were great.

Really nice welcoming pub with friendly staff, we arrived for lunch and were offered a choice of tables suitable for a wheelchair user. There was a good choice of menus available, we opted for the set menu offering either 1,2 or 3 courses a very reasonable price, the choice of all courses were good with something for everyone. We all Chose the whitebait which arrived piping hot and delicious and the mains were also very good chicken snitzel with fries and vegetables it was well cooked and presented the other choices also looked tempting so maybe next time. The desserts didn’t disappoint blackberry and apple crumble with custard and chocolate brownie with ice cream went down well too, the staff were helpful and friendly and the restaurant was clean and tidy and we were glad of the log burners being on. Highly recommended

I had a really nice meal here. Felt more like a restaurant with their pod like tables. But food was good. Menu was a bit strange with mains and starters in different places. Black pudding scotch egg was good. Tacos too. Truffle chips - good. Squid - less impressive. Needed a few ales on draft. I hope to be back

We arranged to camp here after finding the recommendation on britstops. The camping was in their quiet car park. There was a lovely outside heated all year round dry eating area and the pub inside was just absolutely wonderfully designed and decorated like stables, with horse things, jumps and so atmospheric/cosy. The food was absolutely amazing and service was perfect. We will be back.

Having checked the online websites and menus for various pubs in the area (for a Saturday lunch) we decided to visit this establishment (we'd had good food and service previously) based on what we'd read on said websites. Well, to slightly misquote Pretty Woman....."bad mistake, big, huge" to say the least. The menu advertised was a set priced lunch menu available Monday to Saturday 12pm-5pm. Price was not our main motivation, more what was on offer, which were dishes that weren't available on the "usual" menu. Nice greeting on arrival as always. Shown to a table with menus and drinks order taken. Unfortunately, this is where it all went south....fast. We had only been given the "usual" menus, so asked about the set priced lunchtime deal. "Oh, sorry that's only available Monday to Friday" was the reply. When I pointed out that the website said different, the very nice lady said she would check, and duly returned with the relevant menus....with Monday to Saturday clearly printed across the top. "Sorry about that, my mistake" was the general gist of her explanation. Brilliant, we said, and proceeded to order the dishes that had persuaded us to come here in the first place. All good.....or so we thought! Unbelievably, the very nice lady returned around 5 minutes later to inform us that nothing on the set menu was available so we would have to order from the usual one. Now, as I pointed out earlier, price was not our motivation for choosing to spend our hard earned money here but please please please don't insult my and other customers intelligence by offering something you're clearly not prepared to provide/honour. It's not only wrong and dishonest, it may also go quite some way to explaining why you were half empty on what appeared to be a busy Saturday lunch service at other nearby (Mayfly, Fullerton and White Hart Stockbridge) establishments. To say we were sorely disappointed is perhaps me being too kind.

Absolutely delicious offering a great menu with something for everyone, 2 of us had the steak and ale pie with mash and vegetables and real gravy it which was the best pie I’ve had and the whole meal was yumcious, my other friend had whitebait to start off of the set menu followed by the sausage mash vegetables and onion gravy and no words were needed after he left an empty plate. Although we were full we decided to share a dessert of chocolate brownie and ice cream with 3 spoons we had to restrain ourselves waiting for our turn to have a spoonful, next time might have one each!!! The staff were lovely, welcoming and friendly and already planning our next visit.

This is definitely a destination pub and takes a little finding. First impressions were good with a nice large car park and welcoming entrance. The pub has a lot of character but with a modern horse themed twist. Given that it was a Saturday evening the venue wasn’t very busy and although we were shown to a table we were also told we could choose anywhere in the area. A drinks order was taken quickly and menus delivered. All seemed good at this stage and the drinks and a bowl of olives were brought to the table. It took a little while for the server to take our food order and it was quite surprising that they didn’t write it down but preferred instead to ‘remember it’. The starters arrived fairly quickly and they were fine. We then waited for the mains…..and waited…..and waited……The staff walked past our table on many occasions and could see we didn’t have our food but said nothing. After 40 mins I asked where our main courses were and a server went to the kitchen to check. She returned and said they were on there way. From where I was sitting I could see into the kitchen prep area and at this point they began to make our food. 10 mins later and it arrived! It was completely obvious that we had been forgotten about although there was an apology it would have been a nice gesture to offer us another drink/coffee etc. The food was fine, nothing special, but at nearly £20 for fish, chips and peas it doesn’t offer good value for money. I also feel that adding 12.5% to the bill as a service charge is underhand, particularly when the service was less than good. There are far better pubs and eateries around Winchester.

I had visited The Running Horse a good few years ago and it's been extended since I visited. The atmosphere is excellent and the service super. I visited with my daughter for a late Sunday lunch. I'm always wary of ordering Roast Beef unless I'm sure that I'm going to get beef that is still pink and not overcooked. The Roast Beef I had was excellent, tender, extremely tasty and the rest of the meal was good too, including crispy roast potatoes and Yorkshire Pudding. I'd certainly go back.

We booked a large double for an overnight break after going to a concert in Winchester. The location is pretty, it has a spacious car park and the hairdryer in the room has a nozzle. But that is about where the positives ended. Boutique is sadly a term being much misused by pub chains trying to make a quick buck without any effort. The rooms are a series of chalets, almost, next to the pub so an outdoor and slightly flimsy vibe to the structure and the door. The bed, two singles pushed together, dipped in the middle and the bedding and pillows weren't comfortable. The bathroom was tiny and looked nothing like the sophisticated black tiled one in the pictures. And the outdoor seating area opposite the entrance to our "room" was lit up very brightly til past 11.30pm despite no one being out there which made it hard to get to sleep. The main reason I've given this a low review though was the variety of basics missed: there was a nespresso machine but no pods supplied after the last guest used them, there was a small toilet roll which ran out but there wasn't any replacement available and the shower gel in the shower was in the bottles fixed to the wall but was almost empty so it wasnt possible to dispense any because of the fixture. We had breakfast included which was OK but annoyingly given the price of the room, a decent coffee eg americano came with a £2 surcharge which was unavoidable as the filter coffee was so luke warm and weak, there wasn't much point to it. Service was friendly but slow so it was a little galling to be charged service charge for the coffee given we hadn't had option of coffee in the room as they'd not bothered to provide any pods. Generally this is a pub that should stick to being a pub as they don't have the basic skills or desire to provide the basic service. A premier Inn or travel lodge would have been much better at two thirds of the price.

We organised ahead via email and they were very helpful as we had planned this as part of a few days celebrating my 40th birthday including a trip to London. We enjoyed a drink in the bar and breakfast the following morning which was delicious, lovely log fires, friendly service and a fresh very well cooked and presented breakfast. Thank you.

We had arranged to go with friends to the Winchester Christmas Market, and booked a one night "stopover" at The Running Horse, in Littleton just outside Winchester, which proved an excellent choice. The accommodation had been updated in 2022, and to a very good standard, and many nice features, and a large shower room. Some of the rooms are located just outside the main building in a very attractive courtyard in bright colours and plenty of lighting, which included heating so that after our dinner we were able to sit outside and enjoy the quiet surroundings. Would not hesitate to recommend, or stay again. Dave and Sandra, Bob and Bev

Two visits in two weeks for lunch at this excellent country pub. I preferred the charm of its interior before its recent expansion but I can well understand why the proprietors undertook the extension. Local meat and produce, very well prepared and cooked by the French chef (at least he sounds French!). We enjoyed baked camembert, truffle beef croquettes, black bean tacos, roast pork, ribeye steak with peppercorn sauce, sticky toffee pudding and chocolate brownie. The Sunday roast is very good. Nice country location just outside Winchester. We use this place as a great break for lunch when travelling to/from London and Bournemouth.

On entering the room the smell of an “air freshener” hit my nose. Always a bad sign. What was it hiding? I had to unplug it as it was so over-powering. The smell of dog then became apparent! It’s great that they accommodate dogs but it wasn’t pleasant sleeping in a foul smelling room. The facilities were good. Coffee machine and nice toiletries. There was a bottle of water supplied. However it wasn’t sufficient to provide water for the coffee machine and water for drinking overnight (wouldn’t trust the tap water not knowing whether it’s mains or tank!). The bed was very comfortable. Nice touch of chairs outside the room. We did dine in the restaurant. Very expensive. A (large) glass of wine was £12.50. It was nice but not that nice! Needless to say I didn’t have another (not a bad thing!). The fish pie was very disappointing and at £19.50 I would have expected something really tasty. It had a couple of bits of salmon and a few bits of white fish. No smoked haddock or prawns. It was, however, full of loads of really tasteless peas and watery mash. A pea and mash pie. My husband’s smoked haddock risotto however was excellent as was his dessert (tarte tatin).

We’ve just returned from a weekend stay at the Running Horse, and very nice it was too! The manageress deserves big praise. They were short staffed, which resulted in a few very minor issues, but she kept a big smile and was professional and charming,...

We stayed one night - room did not match photos sadly. Dark and a bit drab to be honest. Could not complain about cleanliness but in need for some love, decent lighting and fresh air. One of the complimentary toiletries was empty. Streaming service is...

Exceptionally friendly staff that went above and beyond to be helpful and make sure that we were happy and felt welcomed. The room was a good size, clean and had everything we needed. Separate rooms alongside the pub, rather than upstairs in the pub, which...

I adored the lunch I had at the Running Horse, the service was amazing and all the other staff was brilliant. However, I had a bit of a problem with the general manager. He was incredibly overbearing and didn’t have much regard for personal space....

We ate at The Running Horse for dinner. The service was very efficient and friendly, but the food was mediocre at best. The calamari tasted heated from frozen and the hummus was odd. The main courses were average at best. Disappointing.

The food is very ordinary. Not a huge amount of choice. Didn’t really think it was great value. Lots of places do specials at lunchtime. I had baked Camembert and bread. Not much choice of wine by the glass. Left feeling slightly disappointed

Would love to be able to recommend The Cricketers but it was possibly the worst |Sunday Lunch we've ever had. Food was poor , service mediocre and cost extortionate. They even put a 12.5% sevice charge on the already expensive bill. To top it all one of our family who ate the pork had a very upset stomach .

Pleasant relaxed atmosphere, excellent food, prices reasonable, service perhaps a little slow. Gave us more time to talk. Give it a go.

We stayed with another couple for 2 nights B&B plus one dinner. The hotel couldn't be better placed in Winchester but both the car park and the dining room are far too small for the number of guests. One of us had to wait for about 40 mins for a car park space (for which they charge £15 per night) and we had to wait for over 30 mins each morning for a table at breakfast. The hotel was busy but they should operate booked timings for breakfast rather than making guests wait for tables when they cannot accommodate the numbers. The food was very good but at dinner two of us were served our main courses about 10 mins before the others. I paid for the wine separately but when the bill was presented a service charge had been added which I asked to be deleted which it was.
