The Running Fox in Northumberland

It had been a while since we visited this particular Running Fox. We arrived last Thursday for a bit of a spontaneous lunch date. We both had the 'foxy special' - soup, sandwich and a piece of cake. All absolutely delicious. We received a very warm welcome and even managed to enjoy our lunch in the outdoor area whilst the sun came out briefly. Looking forward to returning soon.

Wonderful little cafe with attached shop. Food amazing. Staff friendly and attentive. No parking, parked in street. Worth the travel.

Absolutely wonderful experience, staff are very polite, food is amazing and the atmosphere is very calming! I'd highly recommend a visit to any of the running fox sites I have personally visited the Felton store a few years ago and the Longframlington store a handful of times and have always been left impressed by my experience when visiting. If you're looking for somewhere local for a quick bite, coffee or a meal this is definitely the place to go. Thanks again to all of the staff and it's great to have seen the business develop the way it has since its single site all those years ago. We'll definitely be back to visit again. P.S sorry I didn't get any good photos of stuffing my face to put on here 😄

WOW…….the have reinvented the sandwich. Had the Hox Fox ( steak and onions) and the soup (cauliflower)/sandwich (chicken mayo, bacon and chilli jam) with cake (carrot and walnut) The sandwiches are like having a whole meal. Couldn’t finish the cake so took it with us after also buying a mince pie slice and scone from the shop within the cafe. Will be telling everyone about this place fantastic.

Bacon and sausage sandwiches are absolutely superb. Delicious and hot, never had better anywhere else.

Booked for afternoon tea and we weren't disappointed. Generous portion for the price with tea and coffee on tap. All the food was excellent and bought more pie on the way out. The service was also excellent, the staff were very helpful!

Love this place, if you go once you are pretty much guaranteed to go back, not cheap but so worth it.

Booked a table for lunch on a rare mum and daughter day and I can honestly say the cafe was the crown on one of the best days ever. From a lovely warm welcome to recommendations on the menu, we couldn't fault anything. The atmosphere was excellent, comfortable and warm with everyone enjoying themselves and the delicious food. The cakes alone were absolutely glorious. This dog friendly cafe has definitely earned some returning customers!

Our first time visiting here. Although we didn't have a reservation we were welcomed and given a table for 2. We wanted a light lunch but visited mid afternoon and most other customers were having afternoon tea and cakes on a stand which looked amazing. Our lunches of chicken, chorizo & mozarella melt with chili jam were super, lovely quality ingredients. The ladies who run the café were so nice and friendly so the whole expreience was great.

Stopped in for coffee and cake before blowing the cobwebs away at the beach. Fantastic staff, delicious coffee and very big slices of vegan Oreo cake. Fairly priced. Very clean and beautifully presented. Well worth a visit. Nice selection of well priced gifts too.

Asked to change from fried to poached eggs on a dish and was refused on the basis new staff and where learning to do poached eggs. I then ordered eggs benedict which is dish includes poached eggs and they where cooked fine. So had a dish I didn't really want on the basis they wouldn't accommodate me although I offered to pay any extra if needed and i cannot understand why.

Only slight down side was we sat on a banquette seat , which was completely knackered , had to ask for a cushion to lift me off the springs!

Food amazing. We had afternoon tea. Fantastic menu and lovely that you can choose your own favourites. They were all so helpful as I was visiting with my disabled friend. Wonderful service. All staff were very friendly, cheerful and so helpful as was in a wheelchair

A great café. Lots of interesting offers on the menu. We went for the (very generous) Foxy Platter which is designed for two to share but we shared with three, were really well fed and still took some cheese home! All delicious too. The pies and quiche are exceptional. Lovely staff too.

A firm favourite. They often have a special deal for soup, sandwich and cake which we love. Generous portions and the best homemade soup. It’s all phenomenal quality and very tasty. I chose Broccoli and Stilton soup, Coronation Chicken Sandwich and a slice of Carrot and Walnut cake. Heaven! Don’t leave without taking a treat for home and a slice of the steak pie for dinner is a must!

Great selection of pies, bread and cakes. Stuffed ourselves silly with scones. Ideal ballast for storm Babet. They also do newspapers which was handy.

Just come across this small group of cafes, very generous portions & fantastic selection of cakes. A real winner.

Lovely little surprise cafe/bakery, we almost missed driving past. We just needed the loos, but stocked up on their takeaway food, best chorizo sausage roll I have had and their sweet slices were to die for.

Love this place, great food, do gluten free as well. Sandwiches, pies and desserts are amazing. Really enjoyed the potato wedges actually. Can get busy but sunny days in the garden area are bliss

Very popular cafe so may have to wait but good coffee and lovely cakes and scones albeit large portions.

Really nice sandwich. Fresh ingredients. Their scone is really nice, fluffy inside and crunchy outside. There are many choices of cakes and they are nicely made. On top of that the staff is very friendly.

Absolutely fabulous. Best afternoon tea ever.

I had to have the gluten free option. It looked lovely but sadly the bread was so crumbly (hazard of home made gf bread) I had to eat the sandwich with a knife and fork. The frittata was lovely, but again the cheese scone just crumbled in my hands. The staff were great. Maybe amend the menu and buy bread in instead?

Wow! What a hidden gem. My family & I called in off chance for a breakfast after staying at The Village Inn across the road. Even though we had not booked a table we were more than catered for. Old school manners, and absolutely fantastic service. All four of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals, and will definitely be returning. Thank you xx

We turned up for a celebratory meal and one member of the party was vegan. They only had one vegan sandwich on the menu which was a felafel melt but they did not have any vegan cheese, can you believe it? The food was only luke warm at best. Sorry really disappointed that the experience was so bad particularly after we received so many recommendations when planning.

Found this place by accident so only had coffee, coke, to cake and scone. All the tables were full of happy customers eating fabulous looking food. Will definitely call back to have a meal. V friendly staff Definitely recommend

Food was incredible. Fresh. Great choice and selections. Easy to order. Great service and friendly staff. Couldn’t eat the set menu, so was offered a box to take the left overs away in. Wasn’t sure about a car park so parked on the lane opposite. We were staying in the stay so was worth a trip.

We love the Running Foxes! We stopped off at the Longframlington Fox for coffee on the way up to Gibside, and again for a light brekkie the next morning. Great coffee, tea and croissants - and the lunches are amazing!

This was the last of the Running Fox for us to try.....Felton is small, Shilbottle & Longhoughton a lot bigger. First time today at Longframlington....after having trouble finding it - signage not clearly visible - was actually just about to ring and ask where it was in reference to the paper shop when we saw it actually was the paper shop!! Food & service as good as ever, cafe small and very cramped - was actually on the cold side with the door to the garden being open...lots of people sat with their coats/cardigans on or around their shoulders. The small tables for two are too small for afternoon tea...no space to put anything and the tables so, so close together you can hear everyone's conversation. Will certainly return to a Running Fox again just not the one at Longframlington.

Really lovely scones, warmed to just the right temperature. Nice little cafè with lots of options. One tiny bit of feedback would be a little more jam with the scones please! My partner loved the lemon drizzle cake. Will definitely be back if we're in the area and can't wait to try more of the cakes 😋

Absolutely beautiful. Had afternoon tea here and it was amazing, the portions were huge we had to bring some home with us, loads of vegetarian options also, and the coffee was so nice. The staff are all so lovely we will definitely be coming back.

Been to the running fox a few times now and always absolutely delicious with excellent and friendly service. I’ve been served twice now by the same lady, short grey hair and glasses, she has been absolutely smashing on both visits. I would say it’s a bit on the expensive side but 100% worth it; you get what you pay for and you get amazing stuff with big portions.

We went here for Breakfast while trying to find somewhere to eat on our way to Cragside. It was a lovely full English breakfast and we were well waited on. The Coffee was also good, I was close to getting a second. In the entrance area you can also buy cakes and pastries. We bought two cakes (about £5.50 from memory) and they were huge and absolutely lovely. Definitely NOT a case of quantity over quality. The full English was close £14.50, which on return to Hexham, we discovered it was almost double the price of the cafes serving similar items. It was good, but £14.50 good? I'd have to try it again, and I would, perhaps that answers the question :)

We went here for a family meal celebrating a belated mother's day. Everything about the place was amazing. Food tasted phenomenal, the service was friendly, fast and non pushy. Made to feel so welcome in such a lovely venue. Would highly recommend.

The best Chicken bacon sandwich ever

Great food. Table service was good and attentive, but when I returned later in the day to purchase cake from bakery shop, service was dilatory even though there was 2 on I stood like a lemon (only me in queue) and when finally served had to repeat my order 3 times.

Superb bakery and cafe. Exceptional decaf coffee and lovely cake. Also left with bread and savory takeaways from the bakery.

Absolutely incredible food. We opted for door stop melts, a flapjack, some white chocolate and orange cake with a latté and a pot of tea. The portions are very generous! They were extremely busy so I would recommend booking. They managed to find us a space outside which we opted for even though it was raining. The outside area was sheltered enough to keep us dry but it was still cold. The staff were very kind and understanding when we asked for a cushion and blanket. Which they provided happily. Very dog friendly too which our young cocker spaniel was very happy about! The service was slow but that was the price we paid for visiting at a busy time without booking. The food more than made up for the wait!

Afternoon tea was absolutely delicious. Loads of choice, substantial portions, endless tea. Boxes provided to take home what we couldn't eat. Staff were very friendly too. Great value. Would highly recommend.

It is a small tea room, there is outdoor seating but not for February and it was busy when we visited, best to book. The service was excellent as was the food. We had afternoon tea, a Christmas present and personally there was three days worth of food! They do provide boxes to take away all you can not eat. Also there is a shop, delicatessen selling all sorts of delightful produce.

Lovely lunch today! The cafe was full when we arrive and we took the last table! The food was fresh, hot, and delicious! We were too full and took some cakes home to enjoy later!!

Wow! This place is gorgeous. The sandwiches was huge and the scones were incredible. The staff were really pleasant and accommodating. I can’t wait to come back.

Extremely accommodating, dog friendly wise, as we have a large Weimaraner! Enjoyed delicious sandwiches and coffee. We thought quite pricey but you receive excellent quality food and wonderful friendly helpful attentive staff. Thank you. We would return and certainly recommend.

Wife and stepdaughter went and brought me a box back (all went in bin after 1 bite) quiche more like a panacotta cheese scone large but no cheese inside brownie really heavy and far too dense This was at Longframlington stay away drive past avoid

Called into the running fox at Longframlington for the first time today on the way to a house viewing . We were in a rush, our own fault, but wanted to check it out. The staff were lovely and accommodating despite being a saturday lunchtime peak. Our 2 year old loved it even more, wish he looked at his parents the way he looks at this pain au chocolat!! Thank you - can't wait to be back when we have more time!! One of the meany reasons we want to move from Leeds and be locals!

Took my wife and our dog there. Beautiful afternoon tea, great choice and the staff were sooo friendly and accomodating. Would definately return & reccomend.

Hmmmmmm, it's going downhill.......fast. We stopped for coffee and cake, which was great, it isn't the cheapest but it is good. No complaints. Called in the shop to buy quiche and flapjack to take home. On checking they had sold us the wrong flan and the flapjack was the end piece, it was small and dry. Not good. I won't summise on why it's heading downwards, that may be unkind. Probably won't go back after visiting for over ten years.

abouslute joke i asked for ham and cheese sandwich with no butter i get the sandwich and it has butter on and no cheese sort your selfs out its not hard to make a sandwich

Had breakfast here while staying locally and cannot recommend it highly enough. We had the full breakfast and when it came it was amazing, top quality produce so much that we enquired where the sausages came from and bought some before we left....it was of course the local butcher (see separate review 😉) definitely visiting again when we are next up there

Dog friendly, lovely food, realy friendly...great little find!

Always good food, huge portions and friendly staff. Sometimes difficult to get a table if you are a walk in, better to book. Afternoon teas are amazing.
