The Running Fox in Northumberland

Firstly , the staff serving were absolutely lovely! A family of six for a birthday breakfast. I’ve been to the Running Fox many times and I won’t hurry back. Food was of a poor quality, poached eggs hard on three breakfasts. Toast floating in the water from the eggs. Undercooked sausage and bacon and none of us finished our food. For over £80 it’s not really good enough. Sadly we think you’ve had your day and perhaps are rather complacent… such a shame . Perhaps the bubble has burst.

We turned up on a Saturday morning without prebooking, not realising how busy it would be. The staff were fantastic, made room for us & welcomed us in. We had the Northumbrian breakfasts. Wow!!! We won't be eating again today. Perfectly cooked, beautifully plated up, and tasted amazing. If you're in the area & you want good home cooked artisan baked give it a try. Highly recommended

We had afternoon tea here. We arrived early and were told we would have to wait, which was absolutely fine, but had to wait in the shop area which was already packed and extremely warm. We waited outside and then returned 15mins later. We were seated promptly and menus and orders likewise. The food arrived quickly and was delicious. Portion size was large and a lovely selection. The staff were lovely however the way people are received and seated seemed a little chaotic at times. Would definitely recommend.

I have been here several times but this visit was not a good experience, we ordered the soup, sandwich and cake deal at £13.95, the caramelised onion soup was inedible, absolutely awful, we both left it after one spoonful, the sandwich was very nice but I ended up.with some of the cheesecake on my sandwich, why on earth they cram a bowl of soup a large sandwich and cake on to one plate I have no idea, we asked for side plates to put cakes on until we were ready to have them, this is very off putting, I hope they change this practice, it's only common sense that you should have cheesecake or cakes on a separate plate

We came here for lunch today, there was only 1 vegan option on the menu, l asked a staff member if they had anything else available, she replied with a no, didn’t offer/suggest they could do anything else. We therefore ordered the falafel sandwiches, they were very dry & the bread was very hard. Very disappointing at £10.00 each as was the female staff member behind the counter. If you are a vegan then please do not eat here, l would suggest bringing your own lunch & sit on a bench around the lake.

Food is amazing as always. Great value for money. Only place i ever go for afternoon tea. All the running foxes are amazing.

Absolutely brilliant. Very clean. Nothing too much trouble for the staff who were fantastic. Portions were unbelievable and value for money. Everything baked fresh and delicious. Highly recommend this place definitely be going back.

We had booked an afternoon tea for four as part of my sister’s 40th birthday celebrations. We weren’t disappointed. It was gorgeous. The food was beautiful, the staff were helpful and attentive and the cafe itself was lovely. We’ll be back.

Visit to the popular cafe / bakery after hearing loads of good recommendations. Not disappointed !! Sandwiches, cakes, pastries ! All mouthwateringly delicious 🤤😋. Cafe itself isn't huge, and I'd recommend booking, but you could chance your arm, or get take away !! Only thing to note : the afternoon tea is not what I'd call a traditional type - you get one big sandwich, a slice of pie or quiche, and a piece of cake. ( Depends on you're selection) All are awesome and filling, but not the variety you get at some places where you have little bites of the various options.

O On our way back from Heighley Gate, we stopped for lunch. We didn’t have a booking, but they were able to accommodate us. When we went inside, most of the guests were enjoying afternoon tea. The service was good, and we didn’t have to wait long for our order. I had salmon sandwiches, and my husband had the bacon and brie. Both dishes were generously portioned. This is the third Running Fox outlet we’ve visited, and it continues to impress..

One of my favourite places. Awarding 4 stars as we had the corned beef and potato pie and both thought it was very bland/lacked seasoning. Everything else I have ever ordered has been top-notch

The biggests sandwich you could ever imagine was had this day. Bread was beautiful, filling fresh and home made coleslaw to die for. The sandwiches here are a meal that will last you all day. If you do love cake, then take a bit home with you, or you will regret it

Went for breakfast, very nice, good sized portions, staff are friendly, I can also recommend Bakewell tart.😉

We came up to The Running Fox Longframlington for a belated birthday celebrations for my Nanna. There were 4 of us there for afternoon tea and wow what an experience! The staff went above and beyond and were so warm and friendly, the food was amazing - the quality, the quantity and the flavour of every item was unbelievable. We came up from Newcastle and it was 100% worth the drive and couldn’t believe what we got for the price, we will definitely be back as soon as we can!

Visited here for the first time.We were just passing and decided to pop in.We had coffee ,green tea,chocolate fudge cake and the best scone ever with the most delicious raspberry and vanilla jam.The staff were helpful and chatty and really nice.We will return soon

We had afternoon tea. It was fresh tasty and value for money. A warm and comfortable restaurant. The star of the running fox has to be miriam our lovely waitress who gives you such a warm welcome and helped make my birthday treat extra special . Thank you so much I really recommend the running fox and will be back soon x

A absolutely fantastic place to have afternoon tea. Tasty food with plenty of choice and plenty of it. A very warm relaxed atmosphere. Miriam was our waitress today and she was the icing on the cake she took her time to explain how it all worked and gave us time to decide what we wanted. She made us fill so special which was nice as I was the birthday girl. I highly recommend this place and will definitely be back. Thank you running fox x

First time at the Running Fox Powburn, lovely food ,good friendly service However the real let down was the men's toilets. Not fit for purpose , pretty grim.

Very nice. Staff pleasant. Had afternoon tea and thoroughly enjoyed it. Anything you can't eat can go in a box they give to bring home. Good idea as the portions are quite big.

Another 5 Star ⭐ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Afternoon Tea A trip to the area wouldn’t be complete without a stop off at our favourite cafe. The most wonderful fresh bread, cakes and scones. We were so lucky that Miriam was working to welcome us and the dogs before we headed back to Yorkshire. Thank you to the amazing team at the Running Fox! We came as a group of 10 on a Saturday without a booking, and they tried their hardest to accommodate us even though they were full. We were seated on the outer decking area, but it was a really cold day so they lit the heaters and brought us blankets and hot water bottles. The food is amazing, but the service was even better! I couldn’t recommend enough.

What a great little place. Was very busy when we turned up. Lots of people buying pies and cakes at the shop. They cleared a table for us. Really warm and welcoming, huge portion sizes and dog friendly. Will definitely go back.

We did not have a booking, only had 2 minute for table as all tables were occupied,food excellent service very good and staff so pleasant thank u all.

Lovely local deli with great food and takeaway options. My regular stop to pick up lunch on my way to the hills! Highly recommended.

The perfect restaurant has 1, Great atmosphere 2. Exceptional service 3. Outstanding food. Running Fox Longframlington has ALL of these things.

If you choose the afternoon tea, you'd better not eat the day before 😂 or at least take one or two items in a box with you when you leave. You WILL be full! The pies, scones and cakes are all top tier (the cheesecake is my fave), and the sandwiches are so fresh and yummy (and big).

It was so lovely to return to the Running Fox Cafe at Longframlingron. Our visit was made even more special to be greeted and looked after by the gorgeous Miriam who we met the last time we visited in June. Such great friendly service from a great lady who couldn’t have looked after us and our dogs any better. We ordered the afternoon tea which was as amazing as ever! Super freshly baked bread, sky high cakes & heavenly scones. We returned for breakfast today & enjoyed scones with bacon & brilliant Gluten free bread with Avocado eggs & chilli jam, all perfectly prepared and presented by the lovely lady In the kitchen who we met last time (sorry we didn’t catch your name) Keep up the great work lovely ladies , and we look forward to visiting very soon. 2nd visit to a Running Fox, loved it

I made a little stop off at The Running Fox for a cuppa and some cake after a big hike at Simonside, and what a treat this little place is. The vegan lemon and ginger cake was delicious and the staff were all super lovely and incredibly attentive - thank you 😊

Paid over £7 for a sausage sandwich. I was expecting to pay around £3-£4 as this the average prices everywhere else. When I got back to the work van and opened the paper bag it was wrapped in the smell and taste was absolutely guffing! Ended up going to the next town a few miles down the road and paid £3:50 for a Propper one. threw the over £7:00 abomination into a field for the animals.

Appears lovely but the welcome isn’t as friendly as expected There were two tables “reserved” for at least half an hour before we turned up and half hour after we left Stood like a lemon while waiting for a table to be free. We won’t return

Surpassed all expectations. Had 5ge afternoon tea for wife's birthday and it was gorgeous but we got loads so ended up with doggy bags

4 of us visited on 15th October to celebrate my Auntie’s 80th birthday. We all had the foxy special which was fab value. High points were the lentil soup and a great selection for a gluten free diet. Special shout out to your wonderful friendly staff. They made my Auntie feel very special and were so attentive. I highly recommend. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Absolutely Fabulous! The food is devine and the cakes are equally delicious 😋 We came in here everyday we were in Northumberland (ops) the foxy special is such amazing value sandwich, soup and cake for 12.99 xxx The service is great and it's very dog friendly which for us was brilliant.

Afternoon tea was lovely but the service could be better. I had to ask for another drink and my partner wasn't even asked if he'd like more tea. The table wasn't cleared after eating the sandwiches which meant it became very cluttered. Much better standards at Felton.

Wonderful place! Staff are so friendly, the place itself is like a Tardis and with the area outside it was great for the dog (welcome inside too). We ended up going twice it was nice. Lunch was fantastic, huge portions, good price and I am now converted to gravy on the side or pretty much anything. Breakfast was also brilliant and huge.

Popped in for lunch, £16.95 deal for a sandwich to share and 2 cups of soup. Very generous portions, the sandwich was more than enough for 2 people. All of the staff were super helpful and friendly. This is what customer service should be like. Thankyou for a pleasant experience will definitely be back.

Shame this as its usually decent. Two breakfasts 3 sloppy eggs, runny on top. Sausages and bacon, just cooked no flavour. Mushroom, black and white pudding tasteless. If you have a chef that can't be bothered to cook what appeared to be decent produce, then make them wait on. This was very poorly cooked, and won't be back £15.95 each, shocking.

'Usual' Running Fox. Excellent and efficient, friendly staff. It was busy, busy and we just wanted coffee / scones in passing by and hadn't booked. Cool in the garden, but just fine. We took some bakes home.

Had our breakfast here on Saturday and Sunday morning and it was outstanding. My wife had the gluten free options because of her allergies and she was very impressed as was I . We were also able to take our dog in and she gave the sausage a 10 . Great atmosphere with lovely, friendly staff . Thank you

Good value for massive quiche slices!

Gem of a cafe; very welcoming to us and our little doggo, fab menu, attentive service and good price. Just had our 2nd breakfast in the week spent staying in rothbury area. Thanku, Caroline Rob and Chops

One of the best pies I have had. Super flaky pastry stuffed with locally sourced, high quality fillings at the most reasonable price. I wish I were a northener and not a southerner only to be closer to this locale. I only wish there was perhaps an option for thicker gravy but that is just my particularity and preference. I was taken here by my boyfriend who stops in every time he drives by (which isn't that regularly sadly) and I totally understand why he does. Aside from the pies being gorgeous, the establishment is really friendly and clean, offering a wide selection on their menu and in the take away shop. Highly reccomend to anyone who likes pleasure and enjoyment in life. wouldn't reccomend to anyone who enjoys being bitter, miserable and lacking good memories? PS: Don't have the steak and ale pie unless you want a taste of heaven

Oh my goodness!!! What an amazing place! Food delicious and gorgeous presentation. Went for the first time today for lunch, 3 of us (one in a wheelchair). The staff couldn't have been more helpful, respectful and friendly!!! My friends both recommend the spinach and feta quiche, I recommend the mince pie. One friend also had the lemon cake, again delicious. I would like to thank the staff on duty at lunch time 07/09/24 for looking after us so well ❤️‍🩹 Sheryl, Susan and Catherine

Wow. This place made us mop the floor because our 2 year old was sick on it. I am baffled, I've never had a restaurant ask us to clean up the floor before. Needless to say never going back here again. The server even had the cheek to show us the gratuity option on the device. Shouldn't I be getting paid instead? Our child being sick was unpleasant but the restaurant treating us this way ruined our whole experience.

A pork pie to die for and cannot pass without buying something too much to choose from, had the bread from there and a gazing as well

Ordered breakfast sarnies and got a couple extras.(corned beef pies, sausage rolls, quiche, cheese scones, flap jack and caramel shortbread).. absolutely lush food.. waiting time for an egg sarnie was a bit long (20 mins), but was a nice sandwich.

Stopped here on way home to York and food was lovely, prices a bit steep though so would put me off going again, plenty of places on the route home to eat just as nice but not quite as pricey. Nearly £3 for a can of pop! Sandwiches around £11, yes lovely yes good size yes plenty of filling all fresh and fresh made but price definitely off putting. Service great no complaints about cleanliness or layout etc so feels a bit scroogish to penny pinch but went to a lovely cafe in place called Morpeth in shopping precinct “Northumberland larder” had food every bit as lovely and service too but literally half the price. How do these places survive when the tourism stops?

Went to the running fox today for afternoon tea. We accidentally booked the wrong one, but the ladies welcomed us in, found us a table and helped us to choose our afternoon tea package. Thank you, excellent welcoming service, beautiful gardens and great food!

Absolutely delicious breakfast. I had the vegetarian breakfast, which was the best I've eaten. My partner had the Eggs Benedict on a cheesy scone. He said it was next level 😁 Staff were super friendly and we sat outside in the sun, which was great. Highly recommended and thank you 😊

Ok. So I didn't buy food, just a coffee. The place was busy, with people wanting take out and a party going on in the cafe area. Staff were friendly, even though it was heaving. The food in the counter looked delicious, and portioned on the large side.

I used to love going here. Popped in on way home from College Valley late on a Sunday afternoon. Staff were rude and very unfriendly which is so unlike previous visits. Food as always was lovely - carrot cake flapjack especially! A shame that the service let it down slightly.

We stopped in here on the way back from Cragside. Dogs are welcome, and we sat outside and were greeted by cheeky sparrows. Food and coffee was good , especially the soup and sandwich with a slice of cake deal that they have.

Delicious food and good value. It was busy but the service was prompt and very welcoming. The rhubarb and almond slice was delicious.

Called into this place when passing, bought 2 slices of corned beef pastie and was shocked at the price, £8.70 for what was nothing special, it must have been 75% potato and 25% corned beef the pastry was ok but quite thin, not impressed by this place.

Perfect hideaway lunch on the way back from Edinburgh. Always welcoming hadn’t booked but found us a table. Excellent value beautifully prepared and presented food by friendly helpful staff. Worth setting off hungry just so you can stop at this place.

I attended today with family for the original afternoon tea there was 3 of us, the food was amazing, lovely size portions, plenty of choices, the staff were really friendly and helpful, in particular the lady who looked after us whilst we were there she had such a lovely manner, happy, upbeat, nice. I would definitely go back a lovely afternoon out

Great place to grab a bite to eat and a coffee

Made an online reservation of afternoon tea for 2 we were greeted in a friendly manner and shown to our table. Very friendly and helpful waitress explained our choices and took our order tea and coffee was served to our table followed by our order. Food was delicious, plenty filling in sandwiches, pies were full of meat, great choice of cakes, scones and jam with clotted cream had to come home with us as we were full. Xmas gift card was a great present, would recommend a visit

Called in for takeaway quiche which was 2 pieces for £7 on a Thursday, chose Brie & Bacon plus Spinach and Feta Cheese, rather disappointing, pastry was soggy. Shame as we had high expectations!

Ordered food to takeaway this morning, service was friendly and prompt and food was delicious, special mention for the cheesecake which was as good as any cheesecake I've ever eaten. Although we didn't stay, I got a glimpse of the cafe and the outside terrace at the back looked very nice to sit on when it's sunny. We'll definitely be back.

It had been a while since we visited this particular Running Fox. We arrived last Thursday for a bit of a spontaneous lunch date. We both had the 'foxy special' - soup, sandwich and a piece of cake. All absolutely delicious. We received a very warm welcome and even managed to enjoy our lunch in the outdoor area whilst the sun came out briefly. Looking forward to returning soon.
