Great restaurant with 5-star service. Loved the small menu - 3 choices each course, although I think that made it harder for me to choose cause they all sounded fantastic! The restaurant were happy for us to share our starters as didn’t want to fill up but didn’t want to miss out! Also - fantastic wine choices! Nothing seemed too much for the staff! Thank you for making my dinner so special!

Amazing tasting menu evening yesterday - superb food and wonderful surroundings. Each course so expertly prepared and so full of flavour that it’s difficult to choose the star of the evening - the smoked haddock with leeks, the duck with mushroom broth, the wonderful halibut - but think the Borders pheasant with haggis and neeps was possibly the overall highlight for me. From the amuse bouche to the final apple tarte tatin with toffee sauce and ice cream, the entire menu was a real treat. If you haven’t had the chance to eat at Audela, I do hope you are able to do so, Craig is an amazing chef who coaxes the maximum flavour and texture from ever single ingredient - there’s nothing artificial or mass produced coming out of his kitchen!

Called in on the off chance of getting a table early on a Sunday evening and thank goodness we were lucky enough to get one. The Sunday lunch is one of the best I have had, the quality was excellent, the beef melt in the mouth. I had the cheese souffle to start which was fabulous. Service was great

Everything about this place is sublime. When booking by telephone I spoke to the loveliest lady, who later also served us and continued to be just as lovely. The food was excellent, cheese & leek soufflé to die for and one of the best roast I’ve ever had, (I have TMJ and could finally manage some crackling) the warm freshly baked bread with butter an added treat. Was our first night in Berwick and kicked off a most wonderful trip to Northumberland, hope to go back one day.

A chef with a real talent overall and exceptional vegetables. We had perfect scallops, lovely partridge and very good hake. The treacle tart was pure indulgence. An interesting wine list. Friendly and knowledgeable service. Expensive yes but great value and first class ingredients carefully prepared have to be paid for.

A wonderful meal as always last night - after not being able to visit for some months due to family commitments - with the amazing standard one always gets from chef Craig. I love cheese soufflé, but refuse to eat one anywhere except Audela now because their version sets the bar very high indeed. The mushroom bourguignon was delicious - the depth of flavour is unbelievable - and as for the buttermilk pudding, the best dessert I’ve had in a long, long time. The sauce made from sea buckthorn was just the best thing. Well done Audela, as always. If you love good food and a comfortable, relaxing and warm ambiance, don’t miss out on a visit to this wonderful restaurant if you have the chance.

Really lovely evening celebrating two birthdays. Lovely atmosphere and friendly team combined with very delicious food. We loved the fact that there weren’t too many choices on the menu as you know it’s going to be cooked fresh and very well. It was a pleasant surprise to have such a delicious amuse bouche of cauliflower soup and soda bread. The fish from Eyemouth was exceptional and cooked to perfection. I would highly recommend the lobster risotto. But we all agreed that the sauces on all dishes were exceptional. For a treat, you won’t find better in Berwick!

We went here with our dog and we were well accommodated by owner and her team and we were made to feel very welcome. Had cheese soufflé and pork belly for starters both delicious and cod and beef Sunday dinner for mains. Both scrumptious again and just about had enough room for a desert of cheese board and a raspberry panna cotta. Dog behaved himself fortunately but think this is due to the relaxed atmosphere and that the tables weren’t crammed in. If I was going to be picky the background music could do with an update but staff were all super pleasant. Five stars.

What a wonderful treat to dine in such a beautiful restaurant whilst on holiday in Northumberland. Audela is thoughtfully and beautifully presented in every respect, the staff so friendly, welcoming and accommodating offering the perfect level of service in a professional and relaxed manner, just spot on. The menu is amazing all of the dishes being so tempting. We came for evening dinner. The amouse bouche of courgette and basil soup accompanied by soda bread and salted butter was a lovely touch and a nice surprise. I chose the mackerel starter, followed by the Hake and Red Pepper Risotto and my husband had the Roast Duck with duck sauce followed by the most amazing treacle tart. Everything is beautifully presented, the ingredients top quality and cooked to absolute perfection, what a talented Chef. This has been the very best meal we have had in a while and if we lived closer (sadly we are in the Cotswolds) it would be a firm favourite for that special treat. Cannot recommend highly enough.

Excellent Sunday roast. We didn’t realise their standards had dropped to the point of letting dogs watch their owners eat for an hour in front of them, without feeding them, it must be absolute torture for the poor creatures. Still the owners looked pleased they didn’t have to lock Benji and Tobias in their cars for the meal, they could have them dribbling, smelling and whining under the table salivating on the floor. After paying over a hundred quid for the privilege, we realised we had completely forgotten a 10% tip in our haste to get away. Sorry.

My partner and I were in Berwick doing a couple of the long distance paths and were drawn to the lovely smells coming from the restaurant! Unfortunately, they were booked that evening - but when we found ourselves back in Berwick a couple of weeks later, we were fortunate to get a booking. As mentioned in other reviews, the restaurant is dog friendly and so our Jack Russell could curl up happily. Everything was perfection. Unlike other hostelries, we were not put in a 'lesser' area because we were with a dog - in fact we had a lovely window table. The waitress was extremely professional and friendly and when she was not delivering meals she was checking the wine glasses to make sure they were spotless. The atmosphere and music was lovely and relaxing and both the waitress and the lady owner had time to chat. The food was heaven and we thought very reasonably priced. If ever we find ourselves back in the area, we look forward to a second visit. Well done Audela - keep up the good work ! Mark Wilkin & Alison Mead (and Rory! ) :-)

My wife and I are unashamedly regulars at Audela, its simply the best place to eat out locally and would be hard to beat in Northumberland. The menu is short but I can honestly say I would order anything that Craig cooks! This lunch was a triumph of new season ingredients starting with freebie of a spicy carrot soup then English asparagus risotto topped with lightly smoked salmon for both of us,I’d love to know how Craig gets so much flavour into this!I followed with halibut in a locally foraged wild garlic sauce which was beautifully balanced.Wife had lamb belly.Sarah runs the show in a friendly and very professional manner and if you have a well behaved dog they will be welcome too so what’s not to like?If you’ve never tried Audela then you won’t be disappointed.

The last time I reviewed Audela was 6 years ago. I have been back since but thought it was about time I submitted another review. My husband and I visited again last night for his 60th birthday treat. And what a treat! The food was exceptional. We ordered the wood pigeon and cheese soufflé to start. But of course you alway get an amuse-bouche. This time it was a white onion and cider soup served with their delicious warm, wheaten bread. Our starters were delicious- we had had these before but had forgotten just how good they both were. For our main course we both ordered the duck. We just didn’t want it to end. Every mouthful was a taste explosion! The duck was cooked to perfection. Craig, you really are a genius! Normally we are able to have the full 3 courses but we didn’t on this occasion. I absolutely love this place. The decor is beautiful, the staff are so lovely and welcoming and the food is great. As it was a birthday treat, Sarah made sure it was even more special- thank you so much! I highly recommend this place if you are wanting something a bit special. Thank you, Craig and Sarah xx

Ooh…aah…wow…look at that…oh my goodness! These are the words and sounds that you are most likely to hear on a visit to Audela. If you are not familiar with Audela, it’s a small restaurant by the Old Bridge in Berwick-upon-Tweed, specialising in modern British cuisine. It was Sunday, so I opted for the traditional Sunday roast: a tender rib of beef, large crispy Yorkshire Pudding, and a medley of vegetables including roast and mashed potatoes, parsnip, swede, red cabbage, carrot, and roasted red onion, accompanied by a rich satisfying dark gravy and a generous jug of horseradish sauce! My partner went for the East Coast Cod with potato terrine, roast fennel and tarragon sauce. It looked and, apparently, tasted delicious. For desert, I was tempted by the buttermilk pudding with sea buckthorn and calvados apples - which was causing a stir amongst some of the guests, who couldn’t contain their delight - but instead went for the selection of fine cheeses with oatcakes and honey. My other half went for the banana and pecan bread pudding with toffee sauce and ice cream. Both were excellent choices and left us very satisfied. If you haven’t yet visited Audela, you are in for a treat!

Audela is a delightfully calm and tasteful - in every sense of the word - restaurant on Berwick's interesting Bridge Street. The menu is Modern British delivered with flair. We had a small pot of complimentary carrot soup when we arrived recently (Oct 23) and then feasted on cheese soufflés, partridge and cranach. The wine menu is small but thoughtful. The menu changes with the seasons and we have always had delicious food and very pleasant service here.

We had spotted the restaurant last year on a day trip and having seen the menus and the reviews, we booked well in advance for a long weekend stay and birthday dinner. The staff were friendly, helpful and well informed, the wine list was very good and the short menu offered enough choices. The food was truly excellent - a combination of classic European and modern takes on it - using the best of British seasonal and local produce. A dinner we will be still be talking about in another 10 years. The restaurant is on Bridge Street which has great speciality shops and other places to eat and drink - a real lovely little enclave - with the historic artchitecture on a warm sunny weekend in September, it feels more like the Dordogne than the Borders!

We have been fortunate to eat at Audela on a number of recent visits to Berwick. Having eaten at many restaurants in this country and abroad I think that Audela is exceptional. Craig and Sarah know what they are doing - small menu, sensible number of covers and food so well executed that it puts other so called fine dining establishments to shame. How refreshing in the present obsession with tasting menus to find starters (scallops and wood pigeon) and main courses (fillet of beef and beetroot tarts tatin) so beautifully prepared with such an excellent balance of flavours. Absolutely stunning meal thank you.

The Good Food Guide is always my first resource to consult when I’m looking for good eats in an area that I don’t know well. It’s what led us to Audela on our last trip to this part of coastal Northumberland. And it was the first place we booked for this latest trip. We came on a Sunday, when they offer a different menu from other days of the week – one majoring on traditional roasts. But, before we get to the roasts, there’s starters to consider. There’s only three on this fixed price menu. So, a twice baked leek and local cheese soufflé. Light and tasty. The other starter was an exceptionally well made Parmesan flavoured risotto. You’d be hard pushed to find one as good as this in most Italian restaurants. And it comes topped with long braised venison haunch. Either of these elements would be lovely in their own right but together, they were one of the best things I’ve put in my mouth this year. For mains, we both ordered the roast beef. There was chicken and pork also on offer, as well as a couple of dishes to suit those who are not omnivores. It’s a generous serving of meat and comes with spuds, roast and mashed, and an excellent crispy Yorkshire pudding. But it was the variety of vegetable accompaniments that set this apart from most Sunday roasts. There’s carrots, parsnips, turnip, mashed swede, roast red onion, red cabbage and white cabbage. All of them perfectly cooked and, in itself, that takes some skill in the kitchen. And let’s not forget the really good gravy and horseradish sauce. Pretty much the Sunday roast from which legends are made. Only one of us wanted dessert. Advertised as treacle tart, but it wasn’t. It was, however, a light as a feather treacle sponge, served warm and with a blob of ice cream on the side. Yes, I’d rather have had a traditional treacle tart but that’s a bit of a quibble. We finished with good espresso and house made chocolate. Service from the two front of house staff was first rate – friendly, engaging and entirely on the ball. They seemed to actually be enjoying their job – and that’s not always a given in restaurants these days.

My wife and I eat at Audela perhaps 2 or 3 times a year and without exception it's always fantastic. Yes, it's probably the most expensive place to eat in Berwick, but not only is it a proper 'occasion' to eat there, the food is fabulously prepared, presented and served. The interior of the restaurant is also just lovely and it has a nice vibe - plus, it's dog friendly. Ingredients are fresh and locally sourced, while the drinks menu features a good range of wine, fizz, spirits and beer. The vegetables in particular are always great. The portion sizes are perfectly pitched such that three courses are just perfect without feeling you've over indulged. I'm vegetarian and while the menu is limited the choices are always delicious - the twice baked soufflé is fantastic plus it's always worth having a chat to see if Craig, the chef can rustle something else up for you. And should the treacle tart be on the desert menu, just make sure you leave some space for it. It's the best thing ever. In fact start with the treacle tart and work backwards :-) Finally, you've got The Barrels and The Curfew just a few metres away should you fancy a good pint plus a walk around the walls to burn it all off.

Have been dining at Audela now for many, many years, you would search far and wide for better restaurant food - or for better hosts than Sarah and Craig, who are, quite simply, two of the nicest people you could ever wish to meet. On...

Food is probably fine, but the way they treat the young staff members is nothing short of disgusting! Don't give your hard earned money to a Bulley like this.

We had two visits during our week away ( three times this month) and every morsel was delicious. If we lived near enough we would definitely be very regular customers. The service is calm and relaxed, there’s no rushing you through, a very enjoyable experience....

We had an amazing Sunday lunch at Audela. This included a perfect scallop starter, roast beef main and delicious desserts. Despite being relatively busy the owner took time to talk to us about the business, her husband chef and our son who is also a young chef. A perfect meal and and great service

The best Sunday lunch!!! Highly recommend. Quite high priced but you do get what you pay for. It didn't stop me having 3 courses instead of 2 as it was so delicious. Very attentive staff.

We had a sunday evening meal and it was delicious. Small, but good set menu selection. The rib of beef just melted in the mouth. The service was excellent and owner very friendly and informative. Nice atmosphere. We would definitely return if in the area.

If you choose the afternoon tea, you'd better not eat the day before 😂 or at least take one or two items in a box with you when you leave. You WILL be full! The pies, scones and cakes are all top tier (the cheesecake is my fave), and the sandwiches are so fresh and yummy (and big).

Popped in here on a hot day for some ice-cream, they were sold out of a few flavours as it was a busy day so I didn't get my first choice, but the toffee popcorn ice-cream was amazing! Friendly staff and not a bad price for what you get.
