Walked in here yesterday to be told that the chef is too busy and we will not be served food for at least 1hr....baring in mind there was just 2 of us! Really unimpressed and was offered to get food elsewhere and come back for cocktails. Management need to sort it out clearly.

Food was so good. Wasn't expecting it to be as nice as it was. Only down side was both lady's and mens toilet basins not working, and only hand clean. But over all definitely try them

My partner and I had an amazing time here. Meena, our waitress, was phenomenal and the 'Duppy Punch' cocktail was outstanding.

FOOD POISONING - AVOID When for bottomless brunch here on 29/3/24. Downstairs decor was modern, welcomed with a smile and orders taken quickly. We thought we were in for a great evening... First drink took over 15 minutes at the time it was us and two more tables of 2. SEVERAL times staff blindly walked past when we had empty glasses to the point we had to catch them as passing and ask for drinks. Food arrived 30-40mins later. My partner had chicken burger, two bites in sees pink, my halloumi burger was more cooked! We notified staff that the chicken was pink they responded "the herbs and spices make it that colour"... MANAGER - TRAIN YOUR STAFF. UNDER COOKED CHICKEN IS DANGEROUS! You should - Accept the chicken is not cooked inform the kitchen, offer another or refund, apologise. Without the chef knowing the food is undercooked and potentially fatal this will continue. *This has led to my partner being ill throwing up and diarrhea all night.* We both went to the toilets, which were a chic design, brass taps, old style iron toilets, looked great, met with the odor of stale urine. There were clearly unkept and unclean. Urinals bagged over with black bin liner out of order, taped hole in the wall where it looks like the incorrect light was originally installed. Smashed broken light as you walk in. This whole experience was negative, service, food and atmosphere. Staff need to be trained both front and back of house and checks on the facilities throughout the day.

Skye and Joel were absolute amazing hosts. We had such goods bottomless brunch. Service was outstanding absolute fantastic service throughout would definitely come here again

Gutted we tried something new tonight. They forgot one of our fries (we only ordered three items) hung up when we tried to call to explain. Also, there’s charred chicken and out and out burned, the overriding flavour being burned food. Very disappointing and won’t be giving it another try. Can’t comment on service or atmosphere as it was delivered.

Would definitely recommend coming here! Came down from London and it was a fab experience! ! Great atmosphere and customer service.. not to mention the cocktails (you’ve got to try the Banana Colada). Sky who works there is an absolute legend.. really kind and attentive! Definitely an asset to the establishment!! Thank you xx

Chicken was perfectly cooked it just wasn't jerk chicken, it just tasted like smoke. recipe needs some serious work. Service and everything else was perfect.

Ordered currry goat rice and pea's jerk chicken wrap it came with chips had it for take away as i couldn't stay as i finish eating the wrap couple hours later my belly started hurting so hard an was visiting the toilet all night. There was bacteria in the food which they said its been freshly cooked. I wont be going back there. for a meal that was so expensive but the quality was off

Delish! Went during happy hour so we got to sample a few cocktails -- highly reccomend the Painkiller! The jerk chicken was to die for, and the kitchen was happy to make a plate without chillis for my partner (less inclined to spice). The only trouble we had was catching the attention of servers -- we were seated in the back part of the restaurant and servers didn't circle there as often as the front. Pretty expensive, but if you sign up to newsletters they have pretty regular deals/money off!

I went to Brighton with a group on Saturday night for a celebration of 11 people and unfortunately we were going to be late by about 20 minutes or more due to an emergency situation. Around 5 members of the group tried to call and the phone just rang out and couldn't have the ability to leave a message. This was such a shame as we were hoping to go but luckily found somewhere else. In future please answer the phone as circumstances can change and it would be good if you can even communicate to the restaurant. I will not be recommending to people in the future.

Early evening, a cold Tuesday in January. Unsurprisingly the place is empty. Big shout out to Mina who was excellent. Cocktails pretty good and a generous happy hour.

Absolutely fantastic! We went for New Year’s Day bottomless brunch. Often places can be super mean on these offers. But Skye and Joel were just the absolute best! They made us have the best new years days ever! Skye was so attentive and we really felt her pride and love for her job and for the brand. She treats it as her own place, putting in all her energy and enthusiasm into it and we really felt like we were at a one off local business and not a chain. Joel and Skye worked so well together and had us in stitches laughing and joking. The food was absolutely delicious and the value for money for all those drinks and food with that amazing service was just second to none and no where else in Brighton you can find this! The venue itself is decorated to the highest standard and was so clean and spotless. Even the toilets are spotless. Based on this super experience we will surely be back soon and bringing other friends. And will be recommending this to others too. Joel is a brilliant manager and really embodies what is means to be a GM , rather than most these days just going through the motions to get a pay rise. Having worked in hospitality management and consulting for most of my life, I would be blessed to have Skye on my team - she is showing such love , care and devotion it is truly refreshing to see rather than just doing the bare minimum to get to close. Overall the best experience from the best team and best venue. 100 out of 10!

Didn't like it here at all. Firstly THE MUSIC IS VERY LOUD!!!! if you don't like the person your coming to dinner with then great! The trouble is, no one can here each other speak so every table is shouting over each other. Couldn't here what the waitress was asking me and she couldn't here what I was saying to her, how they didn't think, shall we turn this music down?? Food was ok. Nothing like traditional Jamaican food, chicken was plain, wouldn't recommend

I couldn't recommend this place highly enough. The food was on point. The service was outstanding. The music was great and at a good level for a restaurant. Special shout out to Joel the new manager, who was lovely and catered to our every need. He spoke about the exciting changes that are going to be made, which I can't wait for. I'm glad this place was given a second chance. Thank you Rum Kitchen, especially Joel. We'll be back with friends! Ps Bring back the mac n cheese!

The place is ran by a bunch of trainees! No one was taking responsibility, either pretending to be busy or posting on social media! Manager was not accountable for the poor service but put the responsibility on his staff that is the only person that was trying to serve the entire restaurant! He was more concerned with having drinks at the bar with staff that had already finished their shifts. Chef himself was serving the food as serving staff were standing around not working. We left after starters as we had to wait over an hour for the food, and even longer for them to clear the dishes away before we could even get the main courses.

I was excited to try this restaurant but was disappointed. The music was so loud I couldn’t hear the waitress and couldn’t hold a conversation with my husband. We both had the jerk bowl with chips and plantain. Chips and plantain were good, the jerk bowl which apparently has chicken in that’s marinated over 48 hours had no taste or seasoning at all. It was bland. The rice and peas were also rubbish. Service was slow. Atmosphere was poor. I imagine the good reviews come from them offering a free shot if you leave a google review there and then. Not happy when we asked for the £7.50 service charged to be removed and questioned why. When she went back to the till to produce a new receipt her colleague rolled her eyes. There was hardly much service and the food was terrible, why would I want to tip you £7.50?! Definitely not authentic Caribbean food. Don’t waste your money.

I very very rarely post about poor service. But this was unbelievably bad. After arriving at 8, I had to ask 3 times for someone to come and take a drink order. At 8:30 we received our first drink. At 9pm (after being there for 1 hours) we received our starters. By 9:45, our starters had not been cleared and there was no sign of any main. There were 5-6 staff constantly lingering near the bar, none of whom took even a second glance over at us. After becoming increasingly frustrated with waiting, we spoke to one of the staff to say we no longer wanted our mains. As soon as we started to explain our dissatisfaction, the 'manager' came over and started to argue with us. He/they did not listen to our concerns and instead was aggressive towards us and ultimately walked off in a hissy fit. I have never felt so disrespected and unwelcome in any restaurant. The 'manager' is clearly out of their depth and does not have the skill set to coordinate his/their staff and to look after the most important people: the customers. It is very difficult for anyone to truly understand how awful this service was and my words only go so far. But this was beyond terrible. It has the makings of a good restaurant. The starters were pretty tasty. But with that manager and current crop of staff, this place is doomed to failure. I really hope that the 'manager' reflects on this comment and recognizes that the blame entirely lies with them. We ended up paying full price for our starters and cocktails and then high-tailed it out of there. I look forward to the response. Avoid.

Starting with the positives ... the food was lovely. It was hot, the jerk bowl was delicious, fries seasoned perfectly, and the passion fruit cheesecake was to die for! Huge portion and very fresh, not sure about the random rich tea biscuit on top though! What let the restaurant down was the service. We had our table booked for 20:00 and sent a pre order previously for 11 of us, unfortunately a couple of people cancelled on the night which seemed to have caused many problems for the staff. they couldn't find what pre order to cancel and had to take everyone's orders again. We got our drinks fairly quick but we had to wait around hoping someone would ask if we were ready for our food but no, we waited till 20:30 and then we had to ask if we could start with the food. our starters arrived about 21:15 and we were all starving prior to this. the staff weren't attentive at all, forgetting drinks and were too busy chatting with each other rather than serving us. oh and there were only two other tables booked in the restaurant so it wasn't even busy and there were plenty of staff looking bored! we were there over 3 hours not necessarily by choice but due to such shockingly slow service! The staff let the place down because the food was wonderful, such a shame.

Took my husband to The Rum Kitchen for first time and it was a brilliant night, the food and service were bang on! Daisy our server was super friendly and had great knowledge of the food and drinks menu. Food came out within 30 mins and cocktails were yummy!! 😋 We will be back very soon!!!!
